IOS5 and the iphone 4
I have a number of problems with my iphone 4 since iOS5 came out.
1. Playlists do not copy to phone as they are in iTunes.
2. Smart playlist will not load on the phone. HUGE problem.
3. I have the Garmin app on my phone and an Alpine head unit. with iOS5 it worked (kind of anyway, it wouldn't play playlists just the songs in ABC order), since the recent update the iPhone will not play through the deck AT ALL. App works. Music works. Just no connectivity. What gives.
4. Large playlists NEVER load, just crash.
Anyone have any work arounds for any of these?
For the first two problems listed...
After some experimentation I have a solution that I find satisfactory for a smart playlist containing only podcasts, and not referencing any other playlist, AND still leaves the "Live Updating" checkbox selected.
What I did was...
- removed any references to other playlists in the Smart Playlist options.
- changed it to "Genre" "IS" "Podcast"
- added "Plays "Is Less Than" "1"
- Selected "Limit to" (in my case 25) "items" checkbox. (I coincidentally, also chose "by Artist" but it didn't matter.)
- Unselected the playlist, under the Podcasts tab, while the iPhone was connected...
-- Sync'ed the iPhone once without it selected.
-- reselected the Playlist under the Podcast tab of the iPhone options, and
--- re-synced with the playlist now selected again.
I have to say I am more than pleased that it not only is keeping the same order in iTunes as well as on the iPhone, but it also removes ON-THE-FLY! the podcasts as I completed listening to them - in the iPhone, without any sort of syncing enabled. I had always hoped that would work someday.

I am facing issues with my music on my iOS device. I have five devices connected to my apple id. And out of which a Windows Machine and iPhone is not able to sync the purchased songs on the the Windows machine and the iPhone. The iPhone4 shows the songs are not supported and on the Windows Machine the songs do not play completely. Can anyone advice what could have gone wrong ? Because rest of the devices are synced to MacBook and they are able to sync the content normally. I have even subscribed to iTunes Match but the problem is still not fixed.
Firstly... a little Clarity...
Devices refer to iDevices... iPod... iPhone... iPad. .. Not Computers.
Authoriation applies ONLY to Computers... of which there is a Limit of 5 per Apple ID.
If the issue is with iTunes on your Windows Computer... Perhaps you need to Re-install iTunes...

I have updated to iTunes 11.1, and the iPhone to iOS7. I have check the cable, and even tried a brand new cable.

my iphone is able to charge when i connect it to my computor, but no matter what i do, will not show up on itunes. i have tried resetting both the computer and the iphone and nothing is working.

I have been trying to get my iPhone to sync with a new computer. As a result I have ended up with many of my apps on the old computer, but missing from the the new one and the iPhone. How do I get the apps on the old one to the iPhone and then the new computer?
You don't. Backup your itunes library on the old computer and move it to the new computer.

Thank you.My iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine. -
I have added 2 new email accounts to my Imac. How do I get them to appear on my macbook pro and my iPhone. The computers are with maverick and the iPhone has the latest iOS 7.0.3. Thanks

If I understand the issue correctly, you have recently purchased a used iPhone and you do not see your Apple TV in the control center in order to AirPlay. To troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.
Try these steps first
Make sure that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network.
If you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, make sure that both devices have Bluetooth turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
If you don't see AirPlay in Control Center
When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see AirPlay in Control Center on your iOS device.
If you don't, try these steps:
Restart your iOS device and Apple TV.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network. If your Apple TV is connected using Ethernet, make sure that it’s plugged in to the router you're using for Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on. Go to Settings > AirPlay.

I would like to sync Notes between my MacBook Air and the IPhone and/or IPad. I used to tick a box in Itunes (info), but for some reason it is no longer there. How do I go about doing the sync?
The only way to sync Notes is through a mail server. If you don't want to use iCloud, you'll have to use some other mail account, or run your own mail server under OS X Server. The latter is a job for advanced users only.

If you are traveling in Europe, do you need both an adapter AND a voltage convertoro charge the IPad2 and the iphone? Or, the reverse, will it hurt either if I use both the adapter AND the voltage convertor?
You may only need adapters for the different kind of sockets, depending of the country you want to travel. A voltage converter is not needed.
The Apple power units are multi voltage devices, supporting a range from 110 V to 240 V. as you can see on the labels. O.K. for most of the labels you need a magnifier, but its on them.

ICal To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar
Why is it that at this stage of development, Apple has yet to offer a solution to manage and sync iCal to-do's with the iPhone Calendar? Am I missing something? It seems obvious that Apple is giving third party developers the opportunity to write the many wonderful To-Do apps out there, and there are many. The problem is, this doesn't fix the problem of sync-ability. I know that there are ways to sync between these third party apps and things such as their own desktop software (Things), which will then sync to to iCal. There are others that will sync to Google Calendar and/or Google Docs, but this is hardly a simple solution. There are always complications when you start syncing too many things to too many places, as the software doesn't always line up pretty.
I'm basically just looking for a simple solution to use iCal, my iPhone Calendar and a To-Do function that will sync seamlessly with both. The most natural thing would be for Apple to include To-Do creation in the iPhone Calendar app with full sync capability with iCal. I find it shocking that Apple hasn't written for this.
There are nice applications out there such as Pocket Informant that integrates a beautiful (and much more powerful calendaring function) with a To-Do function within the same application, but they have no ability to sync with iCal, nor do they have a desktop version of their software.
If anyone has any ideas on this, or advice on the best way to integrate iCal, To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar, please let me know. In the meantime, I will post feedback to the Apple developers with a seemingly obvious enhancement request.
Message was edited by: macorinWith all due respect, I completely disagree with you. Integrating To-Do's and calendar events is a very natural way of organizing things. There is an app called Pocket Informant which does a very nice job in integrating the two. Even Apple thinks they are (and could be related), or else why even include to-do's in iCal to begin with? You see, it is as if they went half way in their effort. They provide something because they think it could be a good idea, but then they put no time or effort into actually making it useful for the end user. The fact that to-do's and notes show up in mail is also pointless. Why do I need mail to see my to-do's on my computer when I could just look in iCal, which is where they were created in the first place.
Omni focus is a very powerful app. I just think that it is way overkill. What good is an app that helps you get things done, when using it actually impedes getting those things done? It literally takes so much time and effort to work with Omni (if you really want to use it correctly), that you don't have any time left over for the things you need to get done.
And by the way, don't talk about hourly rates when you use words like "Gentlements", "prolly" (for, I am assuming probably", "proccess" (there is one c) "offence" (it is offense, unless you are from the UK, which I am assuming you are not), to name a few. Anyway, spelling aside, you shouldn't really be judging what people make based on whether someone thinks an app is expensive. The fact is, Omni focus happens to be very expensive. I am not saying that it is not worth it. In fact, I really don't know. I know that it is powerful, but for someone looking for a simple way to manage the important tasks in life, Omni is not for everyone, especially when you are spending upwards of $80 when something like Put Things Off (which I like a lot better) costs around $3. -
