IOS5 bugs render iPhone unworkable

Hi
After upgrading an iPhone4 to iOS5 it has developed two issues..
1/ Exchange email will not sync over a 3G network (over Wifi works fine). The carrier networks settings are fine and the phone has been put into restore mode to return to factory settings, but it still wont sync over 3G.
2/ Personal Hotspot no longer works. I have noticed quite a few other people on the forums talking about this particular issue. Everyone seems to have a different answer but none are a 100% fix.
Unfortunately as this phone is used for business these two items are rather critical and are causing a major issue. I have searched to see if it's possible to downgrade the iOS to the previous version but have found the answer to be a resounding 'No'.
Nothing weird has been tried/installed/hacked/etc with this phone it has just had a normal life.
Short of dropping the phone in the bin and buying a competitive brand (and walking away with a bad taste for Apple) does anyone have any other thoughts.

Update.
Item 1 has been resolved. The fix ended up being that the sim card had to be replaced. No other changes were made in the end, just the service moved to a new sim card.
Item 2 will be tested again tonight.

capacity available on 32 Gb iphone is 28.49Gb
i previously had 21.97 Gb music, over 6 Gb photos, about 1Gb of apps, and minute amount of audio
now i have no music, 5.4 Gb photos and similar (0.8Gb) for apps and audio. i have deleted heaps of photos and unused apps to try to make space but obviosly this is a much bigger problem. I also created a smaller music folder on itunes to sync to but at present no music is selected for syncing due to the lack of available space.
i have 15Gb icloud account now also which is about half full.
Ive done a little research and heard similar tales but with much smaller other totals than this. Can you help?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

Trying to install iTunes 10.5 but wont install and it just seems to hang for several hours and do nothing. Need help cos otherwise I cant update to iOS5 on my Iphone 4. Thx

I have tried many times today to install iTunes 10.5 in order to update to iOS5 on my Iphone 4 however it just wont work. I have a MacBook Pro and when I use the software update it says that I have already downloaded iTunes 10.5 but when I go to install it and it says it is writing the files and the bluw bar is working its way across the page and then becomes very very slow and and at the last millimetre it seems to just hang there and do nothing. I even left if like this for several hours and nothing progressed. I have since tried to update via the iTunes program and the same problem happens. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.

How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my iPhone (the error message says that if I continue I will lose all data on the phone)? If I have already synced the phone before upgrading the OS, would I be able to restore my data after installing the new OS by syncing after the OS upgrade is complete? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is a game or app or not...it shows nothing about it and explains nothing about it...but it is there on the demo video on the apple website for the add to upgrade to ios 5...it shows the user dragging threads and the little icon monster at the bottom of the screen catches them

Yea thats a game called "Cut the Rope" and it can be found in the App Store for $0.99 or you can buy the Lite version for free.

Nasty HTML / Outlook 2007 Bug in iPhone 2.0?

Anyone else notice a nasty HTML / Outlook 2007 bug with iPhone 2.0? I've pasted the bug that I submitted to Apple below. So far I've gotten no response. =(
Summary:
I have found a major bug with sending and receiving HTML emails between iPhone 2.0 and Outlook 2007. When you reply to any email that comes from Outlook 2007 that reply will include broken HTML tags as part of the message. As a result, with each additional reply the message will double in size. It appears these additional replies hit the broken HTML tag and then insert another entire copy of the email. This happens with each and every reply, until after four or five when the phone can no longer deal with the message due to size.
Steps to Reproduce:
Send an email with HTML formatting to yourself using Outlook 2007.
Reply to the message from the iPhone. The first reply will be fine.
Reply using Outlook 2007 (make sure the formatting is still HTML).
Reply to the message from the iPhone. This reply will include broken HTML tags, and begin the repeat copies inside the email.
Expected Results:
No formatting issues on replies, no repeat copies of the email inside each reply causing unusable message size growth.
Actual Results:
Broken HTML tags appear in the replies and cause the message to double in size with each reply. An example of some of the tags that show up are things like:
color:#1F497D">
or
font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";font-weight:bold">
They do not have the starting "<", which appears to be the root of the issue. These tags will show up near special HTML formatting, such as links or font changes.
Regression:
The problem always happens on iPhone 2.0 when an HTML formatted reply Outlook 2007 is part of the email chain. This appears to happen with all types of accounts.
Notes:
I'm assuming that with as many people that use Outlook 2007 I'm not the only person to report this. Our company uses Outlook 2007 as a standard deployment and this bug alone is making us unable to deploy iPhones to employees. I'm really hoping that a fix is already in the works and will be in the next update of 2.0!

Have you been able to reproduce this with emails back and forth with any other Mail client besides Outlook that composes in HTML?
Outlook 2007 does not use a browser based HTML generator or renderer. It uses Word's HTML engine for both generating and rendering HTML messages.

Just updated Mac with Lion Recovery and Mac OSX update, then updated my iPhone 3Gs with V5 software. Here is a screen shot of my notification center.
Have to say all went extremely smoothly along with a few cups of coffee, only thing that happened was after I hooked up to iCloud I needed to get an iPhoto update in order to get photo stream working, which I did and all is fine.
Once again a big thank you to Apple and all the hard working tech people.
Not sure what has happend but are you sure that the upgrade took? Just check your software version in settings > general > about.

Dopo la tua risposta quella sera stessa ho provveduto ad eliminare il file ipsw seguendo le tue indicazioni e le indicazioni fornite nel link. Ho configurato poi nuovamente iPhone come nuovo dispositivo. Una volta resettato non ho installato nessuna apps, nessun contatto, niente di niente. Il telefono ha funzionato regolarmente ieri 12/09/2010 e questa mattina. Alle ore 15,30 di oggi mi sono accorto che era bloccato (icona collega a iTunes). Ho riavviato il telefono e dopo il riavvio è apparso il solito messaggio "iPhone attivo". Quindi come temevo NON abbiamo risolto.

I had the same problem and just figured out how to fix it. Go into your setting screen and then iCloud and turn off the contacts option. Then click on keep on iPhone. I did this and now all my contacts are back. YEAH!!!

Let your battery run completely dry till your phone turns off itself (recaliberation of the battery). Recharge the phone then using a wall charger for over 2.5 hours or till completely charged.

Double click your home button when the phone is locked. The camera icon will show up then.

I Tried Everything I Even Restarted My Settings Just So I Can See if That Would Work Because Someone Sujested It But What They Neglected To Say That Their Probrolem Was With A Ipad ? Anywho To Keep It Short I Went Online Logged A Complaint With Apple Made A Appointment With A Apple Store In My Area To Take The Phone There After Trying Everything (Resetting, changing setting etc..........) Nothin Worked Upon Taking The Phone To The Store They Swapped Out My Phone For A New One Volume On New Phone Is Perfect And I Only Had To Wait 40 Minutes

This is all true.
The iphone 3G can only be updated to 4.2.1. It will not support any version higher than that.
