IOS5 Calendar Colors Change on Their Own

I have a number of .ics calendars I subscribe to & have the same calendars on my iPhone & iPad.  As most people, I assign each calendar a specific color to keep everything straight.
Since upgrading to IOS5, one of the calendars on my iPad keeps changing colors on it's own - I'm not adding any other calendars that might cause this, but it only seems to be happening with one specific ics calendar - others are fine.  No issues with the same calendar (or any oters) on my iPhone.
I've tried changing the color back manually, as well as deleting & re-adding the calendar - neither appears to have helped.  Only remaining option I can think of would be to wipe the iPad clean & start fresh with IOS 5 - I think I had to do this with my phone for other reasons & wonder if this may be the reason why it works there but not on iPad....?

I'm getting the same thing and it's really bugging me! Keeps changing colour to one I do not want and I have tried everything to get it to stay the colour I have chosen!!

  • ICal Calendar Colors Changing On Their Own; iCloud Connection

    AGGRAVATING PROBLEM:
Many in this forum have written recently about a problem ongoing for people with multiple iCal calendars where iCal calendar colors change "automatically" when you haven't selected those colors, or even "change back" before your eyes to some color your DIDN'T select after you select a new one.  If you log into iCloud on the Web and try to change the color of certain calendars, they refuse to change.  Try as you might, the color you want for your calendar won't "stick" and it is forced to be the wrong color on all your devices.  In some cases, even the names of some of the calendars cannot be changed.  On other calendars in your list, the colors and names will change fine.
Related symptoms:  Calendars you have deleted "come back."   Or, calendars you did not create yourself show up in your calendars list, such as "Calendar" or "Home" or even "Untitled."  Note that the problem seems to be most prevalent with calendars with names "Home," "Work," OR either of these words in the NAME of the calendar.  For instance, "Bob's Work" might get snagged (it can't be deleted without coming back or its color is stuck and "comes back").
I spent a long time on the phone with a helpful Apple senior advanced specialist on this problem today.  We conducted a very large number of "experiments". Our family has two iPads, 2 iPhones, and 2 iMacs, so it was easy to rule things in or out.  I will present some information that may help.
SOME OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE GOING ON:
First, Apple has not resolved this.  But the problem appears to be related to iCloud, and NOT to individual devices.  After de-linking all of my individual devices from iCloud, I could change any of the colors or names at will on any given device, create new calendars and then change their colors to whatever I wish, delete calendars, change names...no problem.  However, after re-linking calendars to iCloud, all the problems mentioned above returned.  The chances that my iMacs, iPhones, and iPads are all causing the problem independently is very low. They also have slightly different OS versions on them, so it is not likely an a particular device OS, though that could be indirectly related.  Also, the colors "change back" within about the same time (usually a few seconds to up to 30 seconds) that it takes to do a "refresh" (i.e. an update) to the iCloud servers.  This when iCloud is turned on, and the absence of it when iCloud is turned off (for calendars), strongly suggests that it is the iCloud server and its interaction with your devices that the fundamental cause of the problem.
Apple has said that they are aware of this problem and their engineers are working on a fix.  Historically, this can mean just a few days, or it could be a few months, years, or "whenever."  They don't give estimates of when it will be fixed.  Exactly WHY this is happening is unclear, but my guess is that it is a modification to the iCloud server code that Apple implemented without testing it thoroughly enough to discover this problem.  Apple does not admit to that, of course and I don't know if I am correct.
A WORKAROUND SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME:
Please note this is a workaround and not a full fix.  Apple needs to run a patch on their iCloud server code.  Until then, I did the following which seems to have worked for me for now.  Read the whole list before deciding whether to proceed.  I don't guarantee it will work in all situations.
Note...I found I was stuck for now with the color of ONE of my calendars.  If you are like me, you want to keep that one and work around it....
Backup first... Make sure that your iCloud copy of your calendar data has the calendar event information you want to save - even if the color is wrong.  Log in at www.icloud.com and do a refresh to sync to the Cloud.  Check over your calendars online to make sure the event data appears to be there for all of your calendars (even if their color or name is not what you want).
    Steps:
    1.     Go to every device that you have linked to iCloud separately. Go into Settings, iCloud, and then uncheck the "Calendars" option.  This delinks your calendars for that device to iCloud.  As you do this on each device, when prompted, select "Keep On My" ..iPAD...iPhone...iMac... etc.  This will preserve the calendar information on the device so it won't be deleted.  I think this is safer, but you can click on "Delete" if you want, too.  Note - if one of your devices is an iMac, with OSX Lion and before, you may be forced (I was) to delete the iCloud calendars from the iMac.  So again, make sure they are backed up to the Cloud first (or somewhere else).
    3.     With the iCloud Calendars Option on all your devices still turned off, go to the WEB and log into iCloud.com.  You need to figure our which calendar iCloud won't let you change the color for.  You probably already know.  On iCloud.com, click on "Calendars," then click open your calendar list and select "EDIT" at the bottom of the dialog box.  One at a time, click on the color dots next to each calendar name and try to change the color (you can put any back after the test if you want). You will probably see a certain one that just goes right back to what you don't want.  This is the one for which the color is stuck, but you may be able to change the name of it now that your devices are unlinked from iCloud.
    4.     Still in iCloud.com, change the names and colors of any of the other calendars you wish to change.  Delete any empty calendars that mysteriously appeared without your wanting them.  Take note of all the calendars, names, and colors that are on the final list of calendars.
    5.     On EVERY device, BEFORE turning iCloud back on on ANY of them: Change the colors and/or names of calendars, delete calendars, etc. so that the calendar names and colors on the device are exactly the same as what you left in iCloud.com in the last step.
    6.   One at a time on each device, go back to Settings and then "iCloud" and check again the box for "Calendars."  You will be asked whether you want to "MERGE" your data with iCloud.  I selected MERGE to ensure I didn't lose anything.  Link each device again into iCloud one at a time.
    7.  When each device is back, go back to iCloud on the Web, or go into iCAL on one of your devices.  Set to view ALL calendars.  Look for duplicates of some of your events.  I found quite several as an artifact of "merging", but in my case it only took me about 5 minutes to go through quickly and delete the duplicates.  It deleted the duplicates on all of the devices at once, so I only needed to delete dups on one device.  I did not find that I lost any events as long as I kept one valid copy.
Again, no guarantees...hope this works for others.  Good luck.

I'm getting the same thing and it's really bugging me! Keeps changing colour to one I do not want and I have tried everything to get it to stay the colour I have chosen!!

  • Colors changed on their own!

Woah - I just opened my ical this morning and the color palette for my calendars changed, evidently on their own! Enyone else have this happen?

I've come over from the other thread mentioned above. I think someone at Apple must be colourblind; since this morning blue, red and purple seem to be interchangeable. But only on my 'work' and 'home' calendars, the other calendars keep their colours. Each time I refresh the 2 calendars change colour, the 3 attached photos are from 3 consecutive refreshes with no other change to the calendars.
Come on Apple! Sort it out!

  • IOS4.2 Calendar Color Changes...

Has anyone noticed the calendars colors changes since iOS4.2. Now i have pastel colors...instead of red it is pastel purple, my blue and green also became light pastels...it is actually ugly and i wonder why such changes are happening with still no way to modify calendar colors at will on the iPhone...I am very disappointed with that change.
Anyone knows a trick to come back to normal/original colors?

Worst part about the new colors is how little contrast they have with the text. It used to be a high-contrast white on five relatively-bold colors. Easy to read. Now, it's one drab color on another very similar drab color, with no contrast or readability). (mustard yellow on dull yellow, drab dark green on drab medium green, dark rose on light rose, dark purple on medium drab purple, medium drab orange on just-slightly-lighter medium drab orange, drab medium blue on drab light blue, or, oddly enough arguably the most readable of the bunch, medium brown on slightly lighter medium brown)
And to make matters worse--it used to be that if you synched with Google Calendars via CalDav, you got colors on your iPhone which kind of matched the on-computer Google Calendar colors, with white text and decent readability. But they've changed these now too, with the colors not coming nearly as close to those you see on the computer, and with text colored in darker version of the background color (resulting in poor contrast). And all the colors have been so drabbed out that many of them are nearly identical. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
It would be nice if Apple would allow you to manually select background colors from their pre-selected palette--but it really wouldn't be going far enough. Either the need to expand their palette to include more options (so people who want high contrast can do so, and those who don't can stick with their new hard-to-read color combos), or they need to allow people to select their own BACKGROUND and TEXT colors for each calendar, so they can design their own contrast level.
With everything else iPhones can do, this really seems to be a simple no-brainer. What gives, Apple???

  • I'm having an error in Photoshop CS6 where the numbers in boxes (like image size width) are changing on their own. Can someone please help me figure this out?

This was happening all the time on my old 2006 iMac, and I thought that when I upgraded to a new computer it would go away. No such luck.
Sometimes the program works just fine, and other times I have this error. I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing it.
Basically what happens is, I will try to type a number in the box to edit the size of the image (or sharpness, etc. something that requires you to enter a number), and as soon as my mouse hovers over the box, the numbers start changing on their own. As soon as I move the mouse away, the problem stops, but of course this means that I am unable to type in the number that I want.
I've tried unplugging my mouse and keyboard - that doesn't change anything.
Has anyone run into this issue before?
    Btw, I use a 2013 iMac, OS version 10.9.5
(I have a video clip of this problem, but I don't know how to share it here)

Your task is hardly a case for Photoshop: replacing text accurately in a scanned, not even
    straightened image.
    My recommendations:
    a) put a crossreference list on each page
       or
    b) straighten the scans and improve the contrast, both by Photoshop.
Then apply a program which converts images of text into machine coded text
by OCR - Optical Character Recognition , for instance Abbyy Finereader
       http://finereader.abbyy.de/professional/?adw=google_eu&gclid=CMirrcCMx7MCFZHRzAodlisAJg
(I'm not related to the manufacturer of this software, I'm just a user).
In coded text it's easy to replace isolated character groups as required.

  • Preferences changing on their own

Preferences for applications and the sleep mode seem to be changing on their own. What am I looking for and how do I repair it?
It was first noticeable in QuickBooks Pro. The company file would stop reacting to entries and then when the application was restarted it could not find the file. All windows were reset to their default locations and sizes. Now the machine falls asleep during movies in FrontRow.

    Hi Donald,
It seems like 2 unrelated issues, if you did not attempt to rename your home folder?
For Sleep try trashing these prefs:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and com.apple.AutoWake.plist
    The second sounds like LaunchServices:
Launch Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line:
    Code:
    <pre class="alt2" style="margin:0px; padding:3px; border:1px inset; width:640px; height:34px; overflow:auto">/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/\Frameworks/LaunchServi ces.framework/Support/lsregister \-kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user</pre>
Then press return. After that, log out and back in or restart.

  • ICloud calendar colors changing

iCloud calendar colors changing without me doing anything. Last night my calendar colors were as I established two years ago and this morning two fo the colors are swapped. Changing them back doesn't seem to help.

Same problem.  Except that I noticed the colors on the web for iCloud have changed to match the new ones in IO7 on the phone.
So I changed them on the phone expecting the web verison to update to match, but still no luck.
The colors on the iCloud web interface have changed and editing to change them has no effect.
Could be the 'build-in' Work and Home colors are preset and not changeable, which would be pretty annoying.

  • Push notification settings changing on their own

I have an iPhone 4 and so does my wife.  We understand how to set push notifications on our phones for different apps.
On my wife's iPhone, the push notifications for whatsapp and viber keep switching on their own from Alerts to Banners.
We do not understand why this keeps on happening, time after time.  Basically every time the Phone is powered off and back on again.
    Any input greatly appreciated, thanks

I've been on Pay As You Go from the start so it's not a contract SIM but there was a little card in with SIM when I bought the phone that said to change the setting to idata as O2 had just changed it, so I did that, but since the data outages that O2 had a couple of months ago that setting didn't work so looking for a solution I found out about changing it to payandgo and that worked but keeps changing back.
Maybe it thinks that idata is what it should be, but I don't even have to sync the phone to iTunes for the setting to change back to idata, its like O2 are sending a signal to the phone to change it back or something or maybe the idata is set on the SIM and the Phone checks that from time to time and overwrites the way it is in the Cellular Data Network settings screen, very odd and infuriating either way.
There has to be a way to fix this, anyone have a clue?

  • Ical calendar colors changing birthday calendar color

Okay, I've been using iCal for well perhaps ever ever since it started shipping in the OS. I'd like to be able to change the colors codes of calendars on an iPad 2 running the app. So far haven't found a place to do that. Suspecting it might be a mobileme thing. I've even tried that, nope no good.  Seems like the iCal app on the iPad pulls colors from somewhere as some match others don't. I looking for a consistent look for all calendars across different devices, i.e. Ipad/iPhone/Laptop desktop version of iCal.  Going to repost this same question on the iCal discussion group. Should I get a response I'll repost it here.
    Thanks,

    Mikael,
I also used to sync to my Palm handheld. I used The Missing Sync. I still had the problem of colors changing. But, they just changed. The colors on my iPod touch calendar don't relate at all to the colors in iCal.
Since it occasionally happened with my Palm, I don't mind having to adjust the calendars. What I don't like is that there is no way, on the iPod, to change the colors. And a few of the frequently-used calendars have ended up with the same color on my touch.

I expect that will come with time.

  • Outlook public calendar - color changing curiousity

Just wondering why when viewing Outlook 2010 public calendar, the calendar appears light green. Then, after I add an appointment, it suddenly changes to pink? The calendar is continually changing colors from one moment to the next as I view it. It's not
a big deal, but I would just like to know the reason (if there is one) behind this behavior. Thanks

    Hi,
I have a few questions for you regarding your issue:
    1. Can you reproduce this issue with all of your users or just this one user?
    2. Does this happen with all colors (for example does blue change to light blue and so on)?
    3. When the color changes does the category change also?
I look forward to your response.
    Regards,

  • Calendar colors changing

Does anyone know of a fix for when iCloud starts randomly changing the color of the calendars I use from my iPad to iPhone for my business?
My business calendar keeps changing from green to purple.  And now that it has started doing that, even from a laptop to sign in and fix it from the top location, it will not accept ANY color, but keeps changing to purple.

Simple ... once you know how. Select the calendar you want to change and "Get Info" on it. That will bring up a dialog box where you can change the color, and some other parameters.
You can "Get Info" using the File menu, the command-I keyboard shortcut, or a right-click contextual menu choice.

  • Calendar Color Changed

    Hi,
    iPhone 4s
    iOS 6.1.2
    PC Windows 7
    Outlook 2007
    iTunes 11.02.25
For some reason iTunes wanted me to "Agree" to terms again.  After that I synched my iPhone 4s (iOS 6.1.2).  After the sync, all my calendar entries on my iPhone were gone.  I reset to settings to sych contacts and calenday with Outlook.  Calenday entries on the iPhone were still gone.  I then noticed I needed to check off how many "days" to go back.  So I did that.  The calander entries finally show back up on my iPhone.
The problem: All my calendar entries on my iPhone are now PURPLE.  I want them to go back to the BLUE I had before this update.
    How do I do that?
    Thanks!

I can't take credit for this, but it does work in my experience:
    1. Go into iCal (If applicable) and edit your calendar colors so that the color red is not taken.
    2. go to Settings and disable the Exchange Account's Calendar function. It will ask you if it is okay to remove the calendar. Allow it to and then go into the calendar application.
    3. Close the calendar application on the iPhone again and go back to settings and enable the calendar sync. It will ask you if you want it to sync over the calendar and once it has, you should have your red calendar back for your Exchange events!

  • ICal Calendar Colors Changing by Themselves

I have two devices that sync with my iCloud account, a Macbook Pro and an iPhone 5. I primarily use iCloud to sync my calendar, notes, and reminders.
By some reason when I got home from work last night, the color of every calendar in iCal (on the Macbook Pro) and in the calendar app (on the iPhone) kept changing color by itself! I have 5 different calendars (Home, School, Work, Homework, Possibility) and each one usually has its own color. But for some reason, the "Work" calendar changed color from blue to orange on the iPhone without me doing anything. It changed right in front of my eyes. I then clicked on it and manually changed the color to red. Then it was red for some time, but on the MacBook Pro it was purple!
It is very frustrating as it kills the purpose of having multiple calendars. I have checked for software updates on my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 5, nothing there. I have restarted the MacBook Pro and I have restored the iPhone 5, nothing there.
I have also unchecked every calendar, and checked them one by one to see how they interact with each other, but that does not matter. Even if only calendar is checked, it still changes color whenever it feels like it. As a matter of fact, all the colors don't even match the ones on the MacBook Pro and the ones on the iPhone 5. They are changing by themselves, and they are changing on both devices, ignoring both me and the other device.
I spoke with Apple yesterday for about 2-3 hours, including a senior advisor, and they had no clue how to solve it.
Do you have any suggestions to what I can do?
Note: I'd like to point out that my events do sync. If I create an event on my iPhone 5, it will transfer to the MacBook Pro automatically, so that's good. It's just the colors that are messed up.

Hey all try this out cause this is what worked out for me
I have been having my "work" ical switch back and forth between green and purple and it was annoying so here is what I did.
I turned off my icloud from my iphone, "deleting" everything in my ical on my phone. THIS IS A CRUCIAL STEP. It will prevent your phone or pad from constantly updating and making sure your faulty calendar is still available.
Next I went to my ical on my laptop and EXPORT my "Work" ical to my desktop. I created a "New Calendar" titled "Work1" and then IMPORTED my "Work" ical into "Work1." I now have BOTH "Work" and "Work1" on my ical loading up to icloud AFTER you REFRESH by right clicking on your calendars and selecting REFRESH. Next you need to go tohttps://www.icloud.com/#calendar and LOGIN. You will now have acess to your icloud and fiddle around with it. BOTH "Work" and "Work1" should be present now. Now in the bottom left it says EDIT. Click and then DELETE your "Work" ical. You can then EDIT the name of "Work1" to be "Work." IT should now be updated and your faulty "Work" or whatever is now removed.
LASTLY, go back to your iPhone or iPad and TURN ON your iCloud. Your iCal will restore and no more faulty changing colors. Best of luck!
NOTE** I'm using this for both my iPhone 4S and macbook pro

  • ICal Calendar colors: changing

The "Help" file gives the wrong information. It says to click the "Info" button in the bottom right hand corner, etc., (see text below), but there is no such thing.
By chance I discovered that if you click on a calendar and then use "Get Info" a window opens that allows you to change the color of that calendar.
    It states:
    Changing a calendar’s color
You can change the color of any calendar in your Calendars list. (Changing a calendar’s color also changes the color of its events.)
To change the color of a calendar:
Select the calendar in the Calendars list.
Click the Info button in the bottom-right corner of the iCal window to open the calendar’s Info window.
Choose a new color from the pop-up menu in the top-right corner of the Info window.
To customize the color, choose Other, and then make your color selections in the Colors window.

Simple ... once you know how. Select the calendar you want to change and "Get Info" on it. That will bring up a dialog box where you can change the color, and some other parameters.
You can "Get Info" using the File menu, the command-I keyboard shortcut, or a right-click contextual menu choice.
