IOS5 fail

new iPod touch keeps crashing on every single application after update to iOS5. how to fix? Also apps all lost when updating to iOS5. cant find purchases again. Even on the purchases page in iTunes store. They are still on my iPod but they have dissapeared from my purchases. I am scared to update again. No idea on how to get an answer from Apple to help. Tried many things. Had lots of trouble updating to iOS5 as well. kept failing and lost all 700+ photos from the past year. This is really upsetting that Apple does not have a fix for any of these problems. I have searched all over online for solutions.

  • IPad2 update to iOS5 failed and restore fails with error code (6)

I have updated my iTunes to version 10.5 (on Windows 7 32-bit). After that and creating a back up of my iPad, I started the update to iOS5.
For some unclear reason it failed. The only option left was to do a restore.
This restore process starts and I see a progress bar on the iPad.
However iTunes comes up with an error message (translated from Dutch): "The iPad iPad cannot be restored. An unknown error code has occured (6)".
Whatever I try my iPad only shows the iTunes Logo with the USB connector.
Can anybody advice on how to I get my iPad running?
    Regards,
    Frans.

Only after submitting my question other answers were shown. The error code to which 6 refers is shown on the next page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
In effect: I had to shutdown my Firewall! (How close do you have to be with a vendor).
After the Firewall (ZoneAlarm) was shutdown, the restore worked. and it gave me iOS5

  • IPad2 - Restore from update to iOS5 failed!

No idea what to do... iTunes doesn't recognize the iPad2. I downloaded the update, then selected backup, before updating and it supposed to have backed up. The update started... I came back today morning expecting to enjoy the iOS5 in my iPad2. I find out it popped a message saying the restore had failed.
The iPad is showing a black screen with the apple and a bar I guess should be filling as the iPad is getting restored. The bar is empty and when I connect/disconnect it from the computer, it makes the sound of USB attached/detached, but the computer doesn't read it as drive and the iTunes doesn't show it in the devices list. I have no idea what to do. HELP! I was mad but now I'm getting desperate
    carmensr at hotmail.com / Thanks!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I could make it work from there, and its restoring apps right now. I think it did save everything because I see my wallpaper back. Thank you! Im not happy because I was way too mad, but I will be soon.
    GRACIAS

  • My iPad update to ios5 failed.

I backed up before I tried to installl, but now I have nothing. I can't even restore on iTunes.
I keep getting so far and then an error message. Getting help from Apple is impossible.

These are the instructions given to me by Apple technical support when I was unable to update the iPad's operating system and was subsequently unable to restore it using iTunes.  I sometimes got error 1602 and sometimes error 1604, but my understanding is both of these errors relate to USB issues.
I am running iTunes on a Windows XP desktop system, so I can't say whether the same instructions will work for a laptop running Vista.  But these steps have worked for me three different times.
    1.  When updating from a desktop PC, the iPad must be connected directly to a rear-panel USB port.  Do not use a front-panel port or remote USB hub.  (If your laptop has more than one USB port, you might try different ones to see if that helps).
    2.  Start the update process from iTunes.  After it has downloaded the update, iTunes will attempt to install it to the iPad.  Even if the iPad is connected to a rear-panel USB port, it may still fail again, leaving the iPad in an unusable state.
    3.  Leave the iPad connected and reset it by holding down both the Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo appears.
    4.  Leave the iPad connected, then close and restart iTunes.  It will tell you the iPad needs to be restored.  Follow the prompts to restore the iPad and wait for the operation to time out.  You will get another error message.
    5.  Leave the iPad connected, then close and restart iTunes again.  Follow the prompts to restore the iPad. This time it should work.
    6.  When the iPad has been updated, you may need to reinstall downloaded apps.
    Hope this helps.

  • 3g update to ios5 failed

    Hi everyone
I'm trying to update a 3g iPhone to ios5. I've managed to save a backup and download the new firmware. But when I try to load ios5 onto the phone, it only loads 10% and then stays stuck there. I've tried disconnecting it, and the only result I got was that now iTunes tells me to restore the phone. Which I've also tried doing, only I get the exact same result: the whole process is initiated, and after loading about 10% it just stays stuck there. I've never experienced this problem with my iPhone4 (the3g's not mine). Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help!

iOS 5 is not compatible with the 3G, I believe the 3G stops at 4.2.1

  • Update 3GS iPhone to IOS5 fail

    Hi,
My 3GS iPhone was updated yesterday to IOS 5 using last release of ITunes (10.5.0.142). he was running the IOS 4.1. Once the update finished, the phones reboot and show a wizzard, asking for Country, Language, WiFi, etc... to activate the iPhone. When the iPhone tries to activate i got this error message:
"Your iPhone could not be activated becaue the activation server is temporary unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate..."
And it's impossible to access the applications.
It seems that the IOS is a beta version and only available for develloper who need to activate the account. I Check the IOS release and it's the correct one (9A334).
The iPhone do not recognyze the SIM from Movistar SPAIN. The phone is not jailbroken (it was jailbroken in the past but was restored). I'm not sure if the base band is the correct one because right now, I cannot check it.
Have tried to downgrade and it not work. My iPhone is dead. Have check the web and it seems a problem of the 3GS and no solution was found.
    Any helps is welcome
    Julien

  • Ipad upgrade stuck on restore screen

upgrade to iOS5 failed on the ipad.  iTunes shows the sycing and completes it but on the ipad, it requires configuring the system and gets stuck on the 'restore from backup' screen.  Connecting to iTunes and syncing is not recognized by the ipad. It is an endless loop of operations.  Result: the ipad never goes past the 'connect to iTunes'.
I am not inclined to configure it as a new ipad as I might not be able to access the apps I have backup up.
    My iphone4 upgraded fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

You can recover all of your apps, music, etc. from iTunes assuming you've syced with it lately. However, you will loose all of the associated documents, preferences, and other settings for each App. I just went through this with my iPad 1.

  • Ios5 upgrade fails with firmware error on my iPAD (original) - how can I fix this or return to ios 4?

I was offerered ios5 on my perfectly working iPAD yesterday - it failed and left the iPAD unusable
Failure occurs during the restoring: iPAD firmware - error is 1 unknown (log below), I'm using iTunes on Windows 7 and have tried iTunes on Vista - don't have a Mac to try.
Tried all suggestions on Apple support pages and completely different PC, sometimes get some USB errors but log below is most common issue.
Any suggestions - iPAD is now useless as stuck in recovery mode.

Just to conclude, and give hope for any still suffering, I succesfully upgraded my iPAD to ios5 yesterday evening.
I did have a conversation with Apple support a couple of days agao, in line with many others I was given various reasons why things oustide the Apple environment might be the root cause such as
    - ports blocked on the network I was using (although when I asked which ones they weren't certain - "80 and 442 we think" was the response
    - a fault on the iPAD
    - slow network connection
The more interesting part of teh conversation was Apple was that the firmware update part of the install actually involves quite a lot of interaction with apple servers. My conclusion would be that the well documented performance problems in the early days after ios5 release were the root cause of my problem - reference to network ports. iPAD faults were just a smokescreen.
My key learning - don't upgrade soon after a major release, I already knew this but when offered an update I didn't go back and check precisley when it had been released so I should have paid more attention :-)

    Hi,
We have an application  built using HTMl 5 and Javascript running on IPad2, iOS5.1 Safari 5.1.
When a file url is clicked instead of asking for Save or Open or Cancel options, the file gets opened on IPad by default.
Is this default behaviour which cannot be changed or can it be configured to ask user preference?
When we try to download a file(.pvw file -> a model file) in the above application, safari throws "Download failed" error.
Please suggest what needs to be done.
    Regards,
    Pramod

Safari on an iPad in general does not allow downloading of files. That's a safety precaution in the iOS SDK to keep unauthorized content off of iOS devices. Safari will open from the web site file types that it can handle, but direct downloading isn't normal behavior, and I don't believe the behavior can be changed, though you can try asking in the developer forum, either here or the one to which you have access as a member of Apple's iOS developer program.
    Regards.

  • Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. Please help

Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. I came across forums where this issue is mentioned on apple support and cnet.
Is there another option apart from upgrading ?

Well, in his defense, his parents bought him the player so I guess we can't blame him. Though the 6 GB versions were available in November so I guess they really did get 'nervous' about Christmas and like to get their shopping done early! Kudo's to you for trying to remain with the Creative line but for what you're looking for it's obviously not the player for you. Creative seems to be fine-tuning their line for the audio crowd. I'm into mp3 players for the audio. Sure, the ability to watch video's and look at pictures on a decent screen is a plus but for me at least, it's all about the music. And with music, 6 GB is more than enough. Heck, 8 GB would have been more than enough for me. I'm a subscriber to Napster-to-go, so I don't feel the need to carry 00 plus GB of stuff on my portable player. I honestly don't understand the desire to watch movies or TV shows on tiny little screens. But you're also talking to a guy who doesn't watch television. What a complete waste of time and brain cells. Probably the **competitor products we can't discuss here** or one of those players would better suit your needs. Companies are definately picking their niche markets carefully and Creative's decision to not offer hard dri've players any more seems to definately be saying bye-bye to that market. I can't say I blame them. Hard dri'ves eventually give up the ghost and are quite delicate for people on the go. Good ridance, I say. Let Apple, Zune and all the others cater to the Z generation's need to be spoonfed their video/TV addictions anywhere and everywhere. I'll pass. It's one thing to be able to enjoy some music on the go and enhance an otherwise dull work day or dri've. But movies/TV shows at work, school, or wherever? Please. Cut the cord! Just my $.02 - YMMV! • Can't restore my iPhone 3GS (w/iOS5); backup session failed.

I'm practically at wits end, here.
For two days I've been trying to restore my iPhone 3GS and so far, nothing.
The problem happened after I downloaded and updated my iPhone with iOS5.  When I tried to restore it from one of three back-ups that I had, I ran into
that error (-50).  Managed to get passed that and tried again.  When I did, I get the message saying "iTunes could not restore the iPhone ****** because the backup session failed."
It doesn't just do this for my most recent back up; it does this for ALL of my back-ups.  Is there any kind of fix out sure-fix for this (barring getting a new phone)?!  I think I've tried several strats that I've seen in other threads and nothing has worked.
(btw, the comp that I'm using primarily is Windows Vista)

*update* GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE!  Turns out that I was able to restore my phone from a back up, after two days at it!
Unfortunately, the back up was from a year ago!  At this point in time, I'm just glad to have my contacts back, though I feel that now would be be best to make sure I keep backing up my phone to make sure this doesn't happen again o.O

  • Sync problems with iOS5. "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."

    Hi,
I have updated my iPhone 3GS 32GB to iOS5 and iTunes to version 10.5.
All music, videos and ringtones purchased were deleted on the device and now it is impossible at all to sync the iPhone with the computer, both by USB and Wi Fi.
It always appears at step 5 of the syncronization the message:
"The iPhone “iPhone” could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
Has anyone experienced the same problem and has found the solution or we have to wait a bug fix from Apple?
    Thanks.

Just made one very simple move without having to restore iPhone or reinstall iTunes..
1st step:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 *Read 'in my case' in here first before following this link*
Follow that link to restart (or if necessary) reinstall your Apple mobile device support.
In my case, Leave iPhone connected all the way. I first exit iTunes. Then i stopped the Apple Mobile device support (by following a part on that link above in step 1) which Effectively made my iPhone undetectable on itunes but discoverable by windows as a 'camera device'. Then while device is still connected, i started the Apple mobile dev support again. Now i open itunes and there my iPhone re-appears.
2nd step: After your iphone re-appears on iTunes, press Sync and all is well...
P.S, Mine is iPhone 4 running on iOS 5, iTunes 10.5, Windows 7..

  • ITunes 10.5 fails to sync Aperture photos to iPad2 with iOS5

I have the latest iTunes (10.5), newest OS X (10.7.2) and updated Aperture (3.2). I was almost happy with my iPad2 64GB 3G with the 4.x firmware just a week ago, only now and then photos failed to sync, deselecting "sync photos" and that way removing pics from iPad2 allowed me to sync even newer pics back to iPad2. I almost felt "appleish". I am running 11" MBA with 256GB and keep my Aperture masters on an external drive.
Now iOS5 cripples my iPad2 as syncing photos messes up the whole sync process.
The iOS5 update failed the first time, surely for the overloaded servers. Second time the next day update went fine. But syncing photos failed. "Waiting for -something- to copy" (I am not using english as language) emerged time after time and I had to manually stop sync process or just shut down iTunes. I powered off iPad2. I took the USB cord off. I restarted Lion. I repaired Aperture permissions. I repaired HD permissions. I repaired Aperture Library. I trashed the Aperture "iPod cache". I again restored iPad2 to the bare basics without any apps, any photos, anything. Now I have the iOS5 working with just some apps. I tried to sync one smart photo folder at a time and got to eight totalling 20 000 pics and then the sync stalled again. Restored again and again took the iPad2 as a new device, now only four smart folders stalled the sync. No matter if I had my external drive connected or not.
This is crazy. Just like in the 1990's with a PC. Now I don't have any pics on my iPad2 and presenting pics was the number one reason for getting the whole thing.
I dare not to upgrade my iPhone 3GS should my phone get jammed the same way.
How can we get support?! This is not how Apple should be.

I have a fix (worked on my iPhone 3GS and iPad 1), but, since we're all having slightly different issues, I'm not super-confident that it will work for everybody.
I rebuilt my Aperture database, which did absolutely nothing.  However, what it *did* do is finally let iTunes report accurately how many pictures it was *actually* syncing to my iPhone/iPad.  Before, it claimed it was syncing all 17k of my photos, but in reality was only copying 9k - 11k.  After the rebuild, however, iTunes showed that it would only be syncing 12k photos, and when looking at the counts next to the albums, I could see that in many albums it was only syncing 1 or 2 photos out of each whole album (of course, some albums copied in their entirety, and others were completely empty).
Since iTunes pulls Aperture's previews to copy images to iPhones and iPad, I deleted all of my Aperture library's previews, then re-updated all of them at "Fit within 1920px" size, which is the iPad's native preview image size....i.e. iTunes won't have to waste time "optimizing" photos if the Aperture previews are that size.  Updating my entire library of previews took about 12 hours.
After trashing iPod Photo Cache yet again, I synced my iPad....but even though iTunes was now reporting the proper amount of images in my library (as well as each album), the actual sync only copied about 9k photos.  Frustrated, I unchecked one random album that *hadn't* been copied, then synced again.  Bizarrely, during that sync, another 6k photos transferred to my iPad....why, I have no idea.  After the second sync, I re-checked my missing album and synced a third time....and this time, all of the missing photos copied.
I then imported some new images from my camera into Aperture and created a new album...this album synced to my iPad and iPhone with no problems whatsoever.
So, here are the steps, simplified:
    1) Delete all previews from Aperture
    2) Update all Aperture previews at 1920x size (I don't think the size matters, but it saves optimizing time during the iTunes sync)
    3) Sync your iDevice with all of your desired photos/albums/events checked.
    4) Sync again with one album unchecked.
    5) Sync again with that album re-checked.
Note:  iTunes has a history of this type of behavior.  Previously, I've seen iTunes sync large libraries in batches...i.e. it will display "Copying x of 9000", then "Copying x of 3000" when copying 12k photos, for example.  For some reason it's only syncing one batch at a time in 10.5.  Good luck!
