IOS5 - iCloud password rejected, Settings app freezes

My wife and I have had a MobileMe account for a couple of years. After we both installed iOS5, I upgraded us from MobileMe to iCloud. I then set up the iCloud options on my phone without any (immediately obvious) issues. Setting up iCloud on both our Macs went smoothly as well.
Here's the problem: every time we've tried to set up my wife's phone with our iCloud credentials, the password is rejected. Not only that, but on each attempt the Settings app actually freezes as soon as the 'incorrect password' alert is displayed! She has to force quit Settings, which is really strange. We've since retried the iCloud setup process on her phone every couple of days since, and the same exact thing happens every time. I even reset our password and updated everything accordingly, and entering it on her phone it doesn't resolve anything.
This is one of several presumably interrelated iCloud password issues I've had. In addition to the issues on my wife's phone, mine prompts me daily to verify my iCloud password. Finally, our Airport Extreme is flashing amber and Airport Utility reports that my MobileMe password is incorrect. I guess I should probably post those separately.
If anyone has any advice, I'd sure appreciate it.

Welcome to the Apple community.
Since you are encountering the same problem on multiple devices, it may well be worth considering that iCloud has had some issues today. You may wish to try again later.

  • Apples Settings-app freezes

Settings app is stuck on general settings and i cannot change anything on general settings or change settings category. Nothing happens, sometimes it crashes. Have stopped all apps including settings app but nothing helps. Is this a new "feature" with the latest patch or is something wrong with my ipad?

    Hi,
    No, it's not a feature.
    Try restarting the iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press andhold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, and the iPad is unresponsive, follow the instructions here.

  • Mac Mail iCloud password rejected on only one computer

On only one of my computers, I can't get my email from my iCloud account using Mac Mail, because my password keeps getting rejected. I am sure that the password is correct, and it works fine on two other computers and my phone.  No matter how many times or different ways I try to re-enter the password, that one email account on that one computer won't connect and see my mail.  Multiple restarts and temporarily disabling the account have not fixed the issue.
I have read one suggestion to delete the account and then re-add it, but I have over 5000 emails in there and don't want to have to do that if possible out of fear of causing additional problems.   Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So, if I delete the mailbox and re-add it (starting new) all my iCloud mail (inbox and sent) should reappear?

  • My iCloud Password Rejected by iCloud.

When using my Mac Mini in a second home, for some reason the iCloud asked me to reset my password. Having done so, I had to do enter the changed password on my iPad in the same location.
I've arrived home and my iMac reported it couldn't log onto my iCloud account. OK, no problem I thought, just need to re-enter my new password. Oh dear...
In system preferences, I'm asked to enter rmy Apple ID password, but it won't accept my new password, neither will it allow me to click on "support", "Log Out" or "Forgotten password". I can't log out of system preferences or select any options, neither can I shut down the system without pulling the power. Each time I've done this, I'm presented with the same problem when i boot up again. As soon as I enter system preferences it reports a problem logging onto iCloud and I'm back to square one.
    Help...

Usually that behavior  exhibits when someone uses more then one apple id. If you are not once in the lifetime exception best fix to get a hold of all of your id's and make sure that when you change password you setup the same one on all of them. Then there is no problem or mixups.

  • How to stop Calendar app from asking for my icloud password every 5 minutes

    On Mac OS X 10.9.5
Recently the Calendar app pops up a window every few minutes asking for my iCloud password. I am sure I am entering the correct password, and selecting Remember password in my keychain - but it doesn't help. I have tried switching off Calendars in my iCloud settings, waiting then switching it on again. I have restarted my computer (several times). Nothing seems to help. The problem started since setting up 2-step authentication for my iCloud account. Any help much appreciated - It is really annoying!

I found this on the Flexibit website.
Why does Fantastical ask for my iCloud password after enabling two-factor authentication for iCloud?
Apple recently made a change and now requires app-specific passwords when using two-factor authentication with iCloud. Please read this on how to set it up: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6186.
If you've set up an app-specific password and Fantastical is still not accepting the new password, make sure that you aren't accidentally pasting in a return with the password. iCloud's website will include a return at the end of the password if you copy and paste the password directly from the iCloud website, which will cause the app-specific password to be rejected.

  • Constant password rejection in Lion, using iCloud

OK, so I've recently made the move to Lion and, around the same time, to icloud. Generally, everything is fine, but I'm experiencing this very annoying issue with Mail. Periodically, but frequently, I get a password rejection alert like this:
The iCloud IMAP server “p01-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “( my name )”
Enter your password again or cancel.
I do so, and it accepts the password. However it keeps coming back.
I haven't changed anything in my settings, but this alert suddenly started appearing, a few days ago. Even when I've ticked the box to save the password in my keychain, it still returns! I'm puzzled and irritated by this.
Has anyone any idea why this might be happening please? Thanks in advance for any insites.

Right, well, for a while it seemed to improve, but I'm afraid it's back again. So annoying. I never had anything like this with mobileme or Mail before. I ca'nt understand what might be causing it. Guess I'll have to keep looking into it. Right now, mail is practically unusable.
And now all my junk mail seemd to have evapourated from my imac, yet it's still on my ipad and iphone!
    Thanks.

  • OS 10.7.3 and Mail rejects my icloud password

I use a new imac (recently replaced my old one for iCloud readiness) with 4GB memory, OS 10.7.3, and Mail regularly rejects my icloud password. I have checked the account settings and they are as suggested. I have no problem with my iPad or my iPhone which are both running iOS 5+, and my password works fine everywhere else Apple-y.
It happens at least once per day, and when I cancel the request for password in a few minutes, without further action on my part, Mail decides it does know my password after all! o.O  Curious. Not debilitating, but mildly annoying.
Could this be an icloud issue? Maybe they need to work on this? Or (gasp) is it just me!

    Hey ! Laady!
iam out of country and so use of Apple Care is muted as impractical. So anyway, the dreaded "password not recognized by server" keeps leering away at me. This happening 7 days after i leave plus no Apple Care, just what the doctor ordered..      the sick doctor that is.
So anyway, today i'm strolling through 'System Prefs' and my eyes light on 'Mail,Contacts&Calendars'  hmmm_click.
          The path found:
_System Preferences_Mail,Contacts & Calendars_icloud_    Then:  enter icloud email address
                                                                                                                  enter icloud password
                                                                                                                   _Create Apple ID
Worked like a charm and it may for others.

did you manage the apple ID from AppleID.apple.com? if not, then change the password again and see if it works.

  • Mail app freezes! No mail! Mail settings, also!

Mail app freezes! No mail! Mail settings, also!

Maybe you can help me.  We have been getting incorrect  password alerts across all devices.. MacBookAir, iPhone 4 & 4s and iPad 2. We have aol , gmail and bellsouth email accts. the thing is they work and then don't work and back and forth every couple of days.. Very frustrating. Apple genius bar suggested the gmail acct over aol and said that should work but it happens on gmail also. When they aren't working the notice comes up repeatedly and when you put the pw in it still says it is wrong. And then it will work at some later point.

  • IOs 8.1 Mail app keeps asking for iCloud password

Since the update to iOs 8.1 i have a problem with my mailbox.
Every time i want to create a new mail, it asks me for my iCloud password.
This happens on my iPhone (6) and iPad (Air) while im in my iCloud inbox, Gmail inbox, or just the general overview.
Whenever i press the create new mail icon it will ask for my iCloud password.
    - When i give the iCloud password (correct one) it wont ask for it again in the next 15 mins
    - When i dont give the iCloud password (cancel) i can just send mails but it will ask for the password whenever i create a new mail.
    What i did:
    - Remove iCloud account > reboot > Add iCloud account > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove Keychain  > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud photo's > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud mail > still asks for the iCloud password.
    - Remove iCloud > solves the problem but i dont want to remove iCloud
    - Disabled all iCloud options, (mail, contacts, etc) > didnt solve the problem
    - Disabled 2 step verification > didnt solve the problem
Everytime i want to create a new mail, u see the phone/pad use the "syncing icon" 3x 5 seconds, maybe a link here?
Anyone else with any ideas that i can try?

That's interesting that it didn't start to happen after a while on your work iPad. I just tried my iPad this evening and I'm getting the same iCloud password popup message when I try to create a new mail or enable "Contacts Only' in Airdrop.
I still think it's a problem with our iCloud accounts. Some flag in the system isn't set or something for some reason. I don't even have mail switched on in my iCloud account so there is no valid reason why Mail.app would try and authenticate to iCloud just because we create a new email.
Signing out of iCloud fixes the issue for me (not that it's a valid long term solution) so that points the finger directly at a setting on my server side iCloud account I think.

  • I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep.

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

  • How do I put a password lock on the Settings app in IOS?

    Hello All,
How do I place a password lock on the settings in the Settings app on IOS devices? Be aware that I do not mean the password lock to wake the device from sleep.
    Thanks,
    Harry

    You can setup Restrictions...
Tap Settings > General > Restrictions
AFAIK, it's not possible to attach a password for access to the Settings.

  • ICloud password in iPhone Settings keeps defaulting to wrong password

My iCloud password is 10 characters long; in Settings > iCloud on my iPhone the password shown is 8 characters. I have to manually change it to the correct password to get iCloud updates (which works fine). The password then defaults to the 8-character version which does NOT allow automatic updates. I've deleted the account on my iPhone then signed in again using the 10-character password but the same thing keeps happening. Any idea what's going on here?

Where do you recreate the account?  Why when I try to delete the icloud and also off the phone do I get an message asking me for the same password it won't take to turn off "find my iphone" ( which i am not trying to do, but don't care either way at the moment)  I just want to get the doggone icloud off my phone. Can you help?
