IOS5 messed up playlists order - Wont sync correctly.

Since the update my music is not syncing properly, it is not in order and wont play in order.
Can anybody come up with a solution?
I have had this problem with previous updates to, still no solution.

For a Most Recently Added Playlist for music on iPhone 4, iOS 5.0, iTunes 10.5 (141), Here's what worked for me after lots of experimenting:
To Create a "100 Newest" playlist:
1. In iTunes, delete any previous 'X Newest" playlists if they've not been syncing correctly since iOS 5 update, especially if they have referenced other playlists. In my experience if these playlists are not syncing in the correct order, there is nothing you can do to make them sync in the correct order - cut your losses and delete.
2. In iTunes under 'Library' in the sidebar, select 'Music"
3. From the 'File' menu select 'New Smart Playlist'
4. In the pop up box that appears, check 'Match the following rule:'
5. In the next line, in the pop-up menus, select the following: 'Media Kind', 'is', 'Music'
6. Check the "Limit to" checkbox and enter the '100' in the box, and then select the follwing option in succeeding popup lists: 'items', selected by 'most recently added'
7.You may check either or both of the options 'Match only checked items' and 'Live updating' - in my experiments these had no effect.
8. Click 'OK' and name your smartlst '100 Newest' or anything you'd like.
Here's something to note:
In your iTunes 'Music Library', the sort order is newest song at the top of your library when the LIBRARY is sorted by 'Date Added' and the small triangle has it's apex pointing down.  To me this means the LATEST song is on top.
In your '100 Newest' playlist, to sort so the newest song is at the top of the playlist when the PLAYLIST is sorted by 'Date Added' , you'll note the triangle is oriented with the apex pointing up. To me this signifies the 'YOUNGEST ADDED' song is on the top.
However you view those two items, it's interesting that you'd expect the sort order might be reversed according to the triangle orientations, but it's not. And that's one of the sorting problems I had with syncing my playlists - newest were on the bottom on my iPhone playlist, but on the top in the playlist in my iTunes Library.  Certainly not a consistant user interface.
Also note that if you've used a previous hint in referencing a dated order playlist to avoid a previous iTunes playlist syncing bug, those lists now won't sort properly any longer.  As I said - cut your losses and start anew.
Hope this helps someone else. It took me a long time to get right.

  • "recently added" playlist does not sync correctly

    Hi,
i have an iPhone 5, ios6 and iTunes 10.7 (all German).
In iTunes i have the smart playlist "recently added". It is sorted by the "last added" field.
    The playlist is setup as:
added within last 2 month, mediatype is music, only marked objects, automatic updates.
The playlist shows the correct titles in iTunes.
When the playlist is synced, the "recently added" list, has a random order.
I also found out - by chance - that i added an other playlist with lots of titles recently. They are organized in an own playlist and do not show up in the recently added list in iTunes.
But after the sync the recently added playlist shows the newly copied titles.
It seems like if the iphone does calculate it's own list and the "recently added" playlist is missinterpreted on the iphone as "titles which where recently copied to the iphone". The "date field" is not used for the playlist, only the date the files was copied.
(Hope i described the problem as good as i can and you understand what i mean)
    Any suggestions?
The same problem was with ios5 and was fixed in 5.x.x - i don't know the exact version.
Will i again have to wait for apple to fix it within the firmware? Why is this error reoccuring ever firmware update????

  • My playlists do not sync correctly after I sync my iPhone to iTunes.

I have one playlist that I created on my iPhone with four albums in it. When I synced it to my computer, the playlist on the iPhone only had four songs on it, one from each album. However, when I looked at the playlist on the computer, it had all the songs on it. This happens whenever I create a playlist on my iPhone and then sync with my computer.

I have this exact problem, I switched to ios5 on my iPhone 4 and tried syncing it with my mac mini. All the playlists are complete on itunes but for some reason 75% of the playlists are empty on the phone but the music all there.
I've tried everything you have but I think the only thing left to do is remove all the songs from iTunes and then re add them and recreate all the new playlists.

  • Playlists are not syncing correctly - music loaded on iPhone but not in playlists themselves.

Spent the whole day trying to deal with this iOS5 update on my iPhone 4. It got bricked, I had to restore it, and then couldn't find the most recent backup that I had. So I had to rearrange and re-add all my apps and many photo albums. Anyway, now I'm struggling with my playlists in the iPod/Music app (which I manage manually). in ITunes, I can view my iPhone playlists just fine, play all the songs there, etc. But when I look at the playlists on my iPhone itself most of them are completely empty. Some have some songs in them. If I go to the songs browser instead of playlist browser, however, I see all the songs; including the ones 'missing' from the playlists.
I deleted all my playlists and tried to re-add them to the iPhone. The same thing happens. A playlist will add, and show up completely fine in iTunes under iPhone, but on the iPhone itself the playlists are wrong (empty or missing songs).
Is this a bug? How can I fix this?

Having the same issue as well. The 4S is my first iPhone, but I've been using my 3rd Gen Touch since it came out. This is the buggiest iOS I've used and most of my problems are within the Music app.
The playlists on my phone do not match the playlists as they are on in iTunes. I keep having movies show up in my Recently Added playlist despite the "Media Kind is Music" filter on that playlist. I have music with 5 plays showing up on a playlist that excludes any music with over 4 plays.
Another issue I'm having is with creating new playlists. I can create a playlist, name it, and start adding songs to it. But when I try to click Done, it won't let me. I'll click the top left arrow to go back to the main page and it'll let me click Done but then all that songs I've added are gone.
    Just a real buggy experience.

  • After updating to iOS5 my music disapeared and wont sync.

I updated my software on my phone this weekend, and then today I realized that all my music is gone. When I am in itunes it wont let me sync or manually drag  music to my iPhone. HEELLPP!!

This didn't work The sync button on my itunes is constantly grayed out, i can't click on it. I also cannot click on the apply button if I cange it to manually add music. I have tried restoring it back to a previous back up. I don't know what else to do Apple seems to not even be able to help. updating was the worst thing I have done.

  • My music wont sync correctly after putting on new music

I tried putting on a new album onto my ipod touch 3rd generation but once it finished syncing all my music went however that album stayed on. The computer said i have 1083 songs that should be on there but when i looked at the memory usage bar at the bottom it says 0.08gb of music, that one album. I've tried restoring my ipod but it did not work and also updated the itunes to the lastest firmware, this did not work either. Can anyone advise me on how to fix this and/or what is wrong.

You can also try restoring from backup.

  • Why my videos wont sync correctly even though the're the right format

for some reason my videos are in the correct format of my ipod touch, but when i play them the sreen and the artwork are white. the aduio is corrrect, but the screen goes white?? can any one help?

installed it onto my iTunes library
open the album up on my iTunes
I am confused by the distinction you make here.  How did you "install" the tracks?  You ripped a CD, correct?  I don't know what you mean by "open up" an album.  You're simply looking at it displayed in the library, right?  The order of the tracks will depend upon how you choose to view them.  If you sort by track name you will see them sorted alphabetically by song name.  No deleting and re-adding ncessary.  Choose to have them displayed by album and things should appear in correct order.  If not, you need to provide more information about the CD.  If it is a multi-artist CD there's ways to take care of that.

  • Itunes music and playlist does not sync correctly into iPod touch?

Ipod touch does not reflect itunes library.  Y ipod touch is reflecting music I do not have and is doubling playlist. Anybody know what is going on and how do I resolve this mess?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Smart Playlists not syncing correctly

All of my iTunes smart playlists are not syncing correctly on my 3rd gen. iPod touch. I have iTunes 9, and the latest iPod touch software (3.1.2) and nothing is correct.
For example on my "Top 25 Most Played" there are songs that I have listened to only once, and some, zero times! In the "Recently Added" playlist, there are songs that I added years ago!
How will this get fixed? I thought maybe 3.1.2 would fix it, but obviously it didn't. I remember this happened to me when I first got my first gen. iPod touch, but that sorted itself out in about a week. I've now had the third gen. iPod touch for a month now.

thanks for posting this link to Apple officially responding to this issue. although these are good workaround solutions, they are still just workaround solutions. it seems there remains a bug when the "live updating" option is selected for a smart playlist. this is one of the most obvious/major bugs I have seen in Apple software (and it's not that big of a deal, so that says a lot about the quality of Apple software).

  • (ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Playlists not syncing correctly from iTunes to iPhone4

iTunes is not syncing my playlists consistently. As it is difficult to describe exactly what is going wrong, I'll also list the things that I did to test the issue. I am currently using itunes v10.6.3.25 on Win7 64-bit and iOS v5.1.1 and iTunes Match is not enabled. When I plug my iPhone into my PC to sync, everything appear to go normally, I am not getting any errors. When I look at the contents of my iPhone in iTunes (under the Devices category), it appears to match my iTunes content. However, when I use the Music app on my phone, the playlists/song have not been synced. Here are my attempts to figure out what's going on:
    TEST: deleted playlists on iphone
RESULT: playlist deleted on itunes after syncing
    TEST: deleted playlists in itunes
    RESULT: playlist deleted from iphone
TEST: changed name of playlist in itunes
RESULT: removed *some* songs from playlist on iphone (but not in itunes)
TEST: added songs back to iphone playlist
RESULT: after syncing, songs added were removed from both itunes and iphone playlist
TEST: added songs back to iTunes playlist
RESULT: did not sync songs to iPhone playlist
TEST: added music to iTunes library
RESULT: music successfully synced to iPhone
TEST: added music to a smart playlist
RESULT: smart playlist synced to iPhone successfully
    TEST: uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
    RESULT: issue persists
    TEST: rebooted iPhone
    RESULT: issue persists

I have just started to have trouble playing my playlists on the iPhone. It started to shuffle them and when I turned shuffle off, it would only play one song over and over again.  You have to open the iPod and manually advance to the next song.  That is obviously unsatifactory.  I downloaded the update on the iTunes software today.  That did not correct the problem.  I also restored the settings on the phone.  It wtill will not play a playlist in the order I have it.  There is some problem here.  I would also be happy to hear a reply on this issue.

  • Playlist order reversing on syncing

Why do some album playlists reverse the order when synced over to my iPhone 4 or iPad?
When the playlist is viewed by album on each device the order is correct.
On my Mac they are in the correct order.
To get round this problem I have to put them in the reverse order on my mac and then copy the order to playlist and re-sync?
Please fix this very very irritating bug! This has been going on for ages now!

Mine has just started doing that as well.
