IOS5 Music

Using iPad1 16gig WiFi 3G.
I downloaded and installed iOS5 this past Wednesday, created an iCloud account and everything seems to working ok with the exception of Music.
In the past, I have uploaded mustic to iTunes which I was able to listen to using Ipod option on my ipad prior to upgrading from 4.3.5. to iOS5.  Now when I launch Music on my iPad, the music I have in iTunes does not appear in Music.
What am I doing wrong???
Pierre

I think I just got it to work. I 'unsynced' all my music, then rebooted Mac Mini AND iPhone and set up to sync entire music library.
I wish though, that I had tried simply rebooting the iPhone to see if they then would've showed up on the iPhone...

  • Configure icons in iOS5 Music app?

OK, this has me feeling stupid:  on the iPhone, when you open the iPod app, you see icons at the bottom for various views (Playlists, Artists, etc.).  When you click 'More', you have an option to edit, and you can rearrange which views are displayed, and in what order.   I put Podcasts first, since that's my most frequent view—and, in fact, the only "music" on my iPad is Podcasts.
For the life of me, I can't find any equivalent configuration in the iOS5 Music app on the iPad.  Is this just an oversight?  Am I stuck always clicking "More" to see my Podcasts, even if I have no playlists or artists/tracks other than podcasts?

You are not alone.  I feel the same way.  I also only listen to Podcasts on my iPad. I have no music synced.  I hope that they add the ability to edit the icons (like you can on the iPhone - even with iOS 5) to the iPad.  I hope this is a simple oversight and not a design decision.  If this is intentional it is a very bad idea.

Is there any other software on the planet that requires this?????  I updated my firefox software a few weeks ago, got no message that bookmarks needed to be saved elsewhere prior to update, so I didn't back them up.  Guess what happened after the update...ALL MY BOOKMARKS WERE STILL THERE!!!
I can't believe that it was not stated more clearly that everything has to be backed up prior to a simple software update!!
Some of the apps were on my itunes, but none of the content nor the settings...so I'm basically starting from scratch.  All this for an update that is probably doesn't change anything anyway.
I maintain my initial message to anyone considering updating their apple device:
    CAUTION!!!! CAUTION!!!!!
WHEN YOU GET A MESSAGE THAT YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR APPLE DEVICE, SKIP IT UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE ON IT AND START FROM SCRATCH.
All of your apps and other content should still be in your iTunes library from when you last synched your iPad. You may need to re-check under each tab to make sure that the content synchs again after the update. As I understand it, the update basically reformats the device.  The content *should* have been restored after the process was complete, but even if it wasn't, you still have not lost it.  It's on your computer, waiting to be re-synched.
Even if your apps somehow were lost from your computer, you can always re-download them for free from iTunes, just as you can for iTunes music. But I doubt that you have lost any content from your computer.

  • Audiobooks in ios5 Music App

Ok, so everyone has already complained that the new Music app in ios 5 is a shockingly poor replacement for the old iPod app, but my issue goes a little deeper.
When I try to play a non-audible audiobook in the Music app, it only plays the track I selected, it does not move on to the next track. Quite annoying if you have 3000 tracks of 2mins long per audiobook....
If I install the iPhone Audible app (come on Audible, when are you gonna support iPad users properly), it can access my non-audible audiobooks, but it screws up the chapters...
I am literally pulling my hair out at this point. The iPod app was solid, why change it for something which has significantly reduced functionality. Fair enough if Apple and Audible have made a deal for all audiobooks to be played through their app, but their app isn't perfect and hasn't been built around the iPad platform.
The Music app on ios5 is a major step backwards... Please fix it ASAP

    Hi Covuniracer,
When you play a non-audible audio book in the music app, is the book defined as an audiobook or just as music? Are the book files MP3's from CD or M4A's from CD or WMA or protected WMA?  I'm asking because I have similar issues and I'm finding that the format of the original file seems to determine the eventual failure.
I have 3rd gen ipod touch 32Gb just upgraded to IOS5.  Error symptoms are:
    1) WMA/DRM transferred audio books:
         a) Don't show up anwhere except in a play list.  They show up in iTunes, but not anwhere on the ipod -- not as a book, not as music.
         b) Track title are now 3-6 digit numbers.  Album, Author, TRACK numbers, all missing.
Changing the setting (Devices, Summary Tab, reduce to 128kbps) has no effect.
Restoring and loading the iPOD as a new device had no effect.
Updating the apps on the IPOD has no effect.
    2) MP3 transferred from library audio books:
    a) Show up as music and will play if I leave them there, but if I tell iTunes they are audio books, they show up in audio books on the iPOD but will not play.  They play fine on iTunes and on my shuffle.  Putting these into playlists has no effect on their behavior.
    b) I can get the Music app to recognize and play an MP3 audiobook as an audiobook for a short while by doing the following:
First, get it playing as a music file.  Pause it.  Start ITUNES, plug in the IPOD and redfine the book as an audiobook.  Then sync, exit, unplug the pod.  The book will still play from where we left it.  Back track to the ALBUMS page-- its blank now, nothing shows up.  Go to Audio book.  It now shows up as an audio book and will play.  Now if I go back to Albums, the expected stuff shows up on it.
This only works for a little while.  As soon as I switch to the 2nd track, none of the MP3 audiobooks "fixed" in this way will play anymore.
Changing the setting (Devices, Summary Tab, reduce to 128kbps) has no effect.
Restoring and loading the iPOD as a new device had no effect.Updating the apps on the IPOD has no effect.
    3) MP3 audio book ripped from CD seems to work fine.  (SK Gunslinger)
    4) M4a (ripped by earlier version of ITUNES) audio track seems to work fine.
Level 5 dance music shows up in Music, 64kbps AAC audio audio file.  All the "fields" are good
Also:  I move books to the pod by drag and drop only, I do no auto syncing.

  • IOS5 Music, Artists, missing Albums

    Hi,
I updated my iPhone to iOS5. Now when I go to Music, Artists, select an artist of which I have multiple albums I don't see the list of the artist's albums to choose one. Instead when I click on an Artist it goes straight to an album and I can't seem to find a way to choose another album of the artist, I don't see an artist's albums list when choosing an Artist. Did anyone else notice that?
    Regards,
    Cédric

    Update: Fixed!
Powered off iPad, let it sit for a few minutes, turned it back on, plugged back into iTunes and re-sync'ed.
Everything was back in my playlists.

  • Cover flow Causing iOS5 Music App Crash

Since I've updated to iOS5 on my iPhone4 cover flow in the music app jitters and if I swipe too quickly it becomes increasingly laggy and not smooth at all then it ends up crashing the music app. Any ideas?

Same problem here. I don't use cover flow but just play one song. Goes fine with downloaded songs but with imported cd's (and their covers) it crashes. I've now downloaded the artwork for those albums and now it works fine. Apples way of saying you should download from iTunes instead of buying cd's I guess...

  • Problems with changes in iOS5 Music app on iPad

With iOS 5, massive changes have been made to the Music app that makes it virtually unusable for listening to podcasts.  Weirdly, these changes were not made on the iPhone version, which still works fine.
    My problems are these:
    1.     Music App no longer shows which episodes of a podcast have been fully played, partially played, or not played.
    2.     The 30-second re-play button is gone.
    3.     The 1X - 2X - ½X playback speed button is gone.
These items aren't very important for playing music, but they're pretty critical for listening to podcasts.  As I said, these features are still on the iPhone version of iOS5.  It's like somebody decided that no one listens to podcasts on the iPad so they took them out.  If that's true, then it's just me that's screwed.
Am I missing something?  Is there a way to bring these features back?  I've tried Apple Care and they didn't have a clue.  And before someone suggests it, yes, I have submitted a comment to the feedback web page at Apple.
    Thanks,
    Rolando

I am with you.   4 out of 5 people in the office not longer are able to open email attachments(PDFs, jpgs, Office Docs) after upgrading to iOS 5 on iPhones or iPads.  It seems to be from only from emails not from a Mac, iPhone or iPad. If you forward the message to youself from an Apple product, you will be able to open the attachment.
If called Apple support and they were not able to help after an 50 Mins.  I'm going to re-install iOS to see if if works.

  • IPad 2 with iOS5 Music Track Gray

    Hi,
I recently updated my iPad2 to iOS5. The update seems to have worked fine, but I am having a problem using the Music App.
All the music tracks are grayed-out. I cannot tap a track to play a song. I can change views (Playlist, Songs, Artists, etc) but everthing it still gray. Also in album view I do not see any artwork,
If I connect to my iTunes library via Home Sharing, I can play music. It just seems my local files cannot be played. I went into iTunes and stop it from syncing music to the iPad which erased all the files. When I re-established the music sync, it copied the music files back, but still appear gray.
Not sure what is causing this. Videos synced from iTunes work fine. Just music. Any suggestions.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure if you've been successful with playing music on your iPad yet but here's what worked for me. This morning I discovered that my whole music library was 'greyed out' and nothing would play at all after installing the shiny new (flawed and bugged) IOS 5. After unsuccessfully trying a hard reboot (holding the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds, ignoring the power off prompt and letting the iPad completely shut down, operating system incuded) then everything bar a complete wipeout and restore to factory defaults I tried this and it worked:
First I synched my iPad with my iTunes via the USB cable. Then I unticked the 'synch music' tab, which will basically delete all of the music from your iPad on the next synch which I then did. Then I ejected the iPad from iTunes and performed a hard reboot (see above). To power up again hold the sleep button down for a few seconds and you'll see the Apple logo. it should then take about 20-30 seconds to reload and be ready to use. I then reconnected to iTunes, went to the music synch tab. Ticked the box to put my entire music library back on the iPad and synched again. Depending on how much music is in your library or how much you put on your iPad it could well take hours. I've only got about 5GB and it took over 2 hours. Anyway after it had synched and put all the music back on the iPad, I tried and all of it is now longer 'greyed out' and plays like it's intended to.
If you haven't been successful yet then it's worth a try. It may well work for iPhones too if the music has already been backed up on iTunes. Hope this helps.

  • Parenthasis in songs not showing up in ios5 music player.

When I go to look at a song that is a remix or has any type of parenthasis, it only shows the original song title. And not the remix info. For example: Yoü and I (Mark Taylor Remix) is in my iPads music library as Yoü and I but I know that's not how it's supposed to be because it has the correct title in iTunes... any answers?

  • Help required with Audiobooks on iOS5 Music app

I have just upgraded my iPad to the latest OS which changed the ipod app to the new Music app.  Unfortunately there are a couple of issues in the Audiobooks feature.
    1) when you listen to an audiobook, it no longer moves automatically from one file to the next (like a playlist).  It gets to the end of the file and stops.  This particularly annoying when it is a book that is split into 2 minute files.  I have looked for an option in case it is a configurable feature but can not find it.
    2) for some of my audiobooks it has listed the files in a random order so the story does not flow in the right order.  I do not understand what is causing this.
I have search the apple website and there does not seem to be a way to raise a bug report.   Any thoughts on whether this is a configuration problem on my iPad or whether it is the new software.

  • IOS5 Music doesn't play the right songs!

Newly upgraded, and when I use what used to be called iPod (now Music) the list of songs shows, but tapping certain songs doesn't play them, it plays either nothing at all, or the wrong song. Very chaotic!

The database files on the iPad have probably become corrupted. You will have to remove the songs from the iPad and re-sync them from iTunes to re-write a fresh database file. It can easily be done by unchecking "Sync Music" in the iPad's sync settings in iTunes, sync then re-check it.

  • After updating my iPhone 4 to ios5 music from my playlist won't play?

After I updated my iPhone I try playing music and only the songs that I bought on iTunes will play on the iPhone, when I click play nothing happens. The songs will play fine on my computer. I resented and hard reset it sinc it twice and still won't work

I tried all the things in the forums and I also did all the things the Apple techs told me to do...  Uninstalled iTunes completely, and then reinstalled.  I erased all the info on my iPhone 4S, set it up as a new phone and tried to sync again.  All of it failed to work.
Here is what worked for me:
    1) Start iTunes
    2) Connect iPhone
    3) Click on iPhone device in left hand column
    4) On the Summary tab, in the Options section, I had nothing checked.
    5) Check "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC"
    6) Started sync
    7) Waited until a track was syncing
    8) Uncheck "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC"
    9) Click on Apply and started the sync again
Most of the tracks made it over but not all of them.
I sent my computer and iTunes diagnostic information over to Apple and now I'm waiting on a response from them on how to get the remaining tracks over to my iPhone.

  • IOS5 Music App crashing when going to podcasts

My music app keeps crashing whenever I select the "podcast" tab in the music app.
Here have been the steps I've taken so far:
    1.  Connect to iTunes, remove podcasts from phone
    2.  Upon doing this, the music app crashes instantly upon opening
    3.  If I select "reset all settings" on the phone, the music app will start back up - but continue to crash when navigating to podcast tab
    Notes
+  If I select my computer library (home sharing) within the music app, the podcasts show up and play fine (pulling from my computer)
+  The "Muisc +" app accesses all my music and plays fine (but I can't get to podcasts from within that app)
+  I can use voice commands to play a music - and skip forward/back from the lock screen
    Hardware:
    iPhone 4, ATT, 32GB
    iOS 5.0.1
    Any help/suggestions?

I'm still having this issue - wanted to add some additional details:
+if i search on my iPhone (swipe all the way to the left home screen), several podcasts show up; even after syncing and telling iTunes to sync 1 most recent podcast or none at all
+I can play these podcasts from the "search" menu, but when I hit back, it brings me to the default music app tab, and if i tab to the podcast tab (even with the podcast playing), the app will crash
+in iTunes, when I set my podcasts to only keep the most recent one, then sync my phone - it will pull these random podcasts back into iTunes
+The date on these podcasts is 12/31/00 (even though they are from 2011)
It seems like the "12/31/00" labeled podcasts are impossible to delete and causing my music app to crash.
