IOS5 Turns Apps Upside down.

When Invoking any App (e.g. calendar,Notes, Safari etc) the app will turn upside down with respect to the home button. This looks to be a very annoying bug. Is there a setting to adjust this?

Double tap the Home button and swipe right on the task bar with recent apps that appears.  Tap on the lock rotation buttion to unlock it.  Alternatively, if you have the Mute button configured as the rotation lock, press it.
Have a nice day.

  • Turn video upside down?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to turn video upside down?
The video was shot on a portable device (mp4 format) whilst the device was wrong way around, making the image upside down, and I want to keep this particular video.
If this is possible, I'd really appreciate knowing the application that does it.
Many thanks in advance for advice.

I use Quicktime Pro to rotate movies that I capture with an upside-down recorder. Here are some instructions I found:

  • Turn everything upside down for April Fool's?

    Hi everyone.
I work at a project with a continuous build system, so anything I check in will be built and seen by project leaders and such within an hour. I'm trying to think of a good April Fool's joke.
I think the ripest ground might be the Swing rendering of the program. I don't imagine there's an easy way to turn everything upside down, is there? Maybe I could over ride the paint() method of the JFrame everything is in and flip the co-ordinate system? I'm thinking even if that were possible it probably won't trickle down to the other components...
Any thoughts of some big, obvious, silly change, that wouldn't require too much time-wasting?
    Thanks!
    Sam

Ok, I did it, and appear not to have lost my job. Thanks everyone!
The only problem was that no one saw it... except the CEO! Yes, the CEO occasionally work with head versions of our code... He figured he was infected with the conficker worm... The programmer he was IMing with hadn't seen it (update your code!), so the CEO made a short movie: http://www.concord.org/~cdorsey/Upside-down-OTrunk.mov. At that point people started to work it out.
As you can see, the panel didn't paint all the way -- that launch does some extra resizing that I hadn't considered and appears to mess things up a little. Oh well. sigh
Thanks again! Below is the code I used:

  • PowerBook wont turn on unless I turn it upside down!!!

Ahhhh ok this is annoying!! My powerbook wont work unless I turn it upside down!! When it is right side up..I turn it on and it just comes up with a blank screen. However, if I turn it upside down it works just fine! Once its working ok upside down, I turn it right side up again and it freezes!!!! Any suggestions?? You think something might be loose inside?

I recently had the same problem. It turned out to be my hard drive was in the process of going down the tubes. It had also started making some strange noises. I would definitely back everything up and get it checked out.

  • IPod pauses when I turn it upside-down.

I was wondering if my iPod is heading downhill, or is this kind of thing common. When it is playing music on my desk (right side up), and i turn it upside down to look at the back, it pauses. Anyone know about this?

Hate to ask the obvious but I just have to.
Your finger is not on the pause, is it?

  • Email app upside down

    I've got a 64 GB / 3G, original iPad.
Recently, I notice that the email app seems to have it's orientation locked,
    I can't change it!?
The games and other apps work normally, so I think it's just the app preferences (where ever that might be).
(I did use the lock switch and changed it back and forth from the "mute" / "screen lock" function in the control panel. I did a soft reset, too.)

There is no app preference for the screen orientation in the Mail App. You tried a soft reset ... you shut the iPad off and turned it back on correct?
Try a hard reset - hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider- let the iPad restart completely. Open the Mail App and see if the screen will rotate.

  • I have a playlist turning up "upside-down" on my iPhone

A playlist that I sync to my iPhone is appearing the wrong way up on it.
Should be the most recent songs first, it's not.
Any thoughts on whether this is an iTunes issue or an iPhone issue?
Any thoughts on how to fix it?
    Thanks!!!

Anyone had trouble loading Jeopardy HD App?  Mine loaded upside down.  Tried everything, re-starting, re--loading, all to no avail.  Have to turn screen upside down to play.

The App Store is scanning the Mac and finding purchased apps in the Applications folder. It then checks against the list and finds that they are old versions and prompts for an update.
All that is required to install an app is a Apple ID and admin rights on the target mac. The apps she is installing are wrapped in DRM which identify her as the owner, but the App Store doesn't care, as she is entitled to install them on your Mac. But it reads her ID from the wrapper and thus prompts for her password to do the update.
I'd personally suggest that just one of you has admin rights and does all the purchasing off the App Store. You could remove all her apps from the mac, but you'd then need to purchase them again to consolidate them into your ID.
Or you could just get her to do the updates!

  • Turning Ipod Touch Upside Down

I currently have an Ipod Classic 80gb and I am thinking of getting a new Ipod Touch 64gb. The only thing that is holding me back is the fact that the headphone socket appears to be on the underside of the touch. To play music in my car I need the socket to be on the topside to allow me to connect it via a 3.5mm jack. I am therefore wondering if it is possible to turn the touch upside down and be able to orientate the screen correctly allowing me to connect via the topside. This would also allow easier access to the menu button which would then be towards the top of the facia. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you were to play music, you could view the music menu upright or as a landscape, but turning it upside down will turn the menu upside down. Obviously, you'll still be able to hear the music, but the menus will be upside down. Your best option would be to play music with the Touch in landscape mode; you can still browse and select music, the internal gyro will right the image.

  • IPhone4S Camera Upside Down after 5.0.1 Update

The 5.0.1 Update was pushed to my iPhone this afternoon.  Naively, I loaded it and rebooted.  Although I appreciate the Camera that made an apprearance on the lock screen, unfortunately, it now displays in reverse orientation.  And, when I take a picture-- it's upside down.  When I turn the camera to shoot, ALL of my pics are upside down.  No matter WHAT direction I hold the camera in--they ALL turn out upside down. This is HORRIBLE.
Can I get the old OS back, is there a fix (BACK to the way it was), or should I just return to the AT&T store?
    Thank you.
    Lisa

I finally worked around Apple's problem.  I synced my iPhone 4 phone with another computer.  Lost my apps and music on the phone but still had my music database of almost 3,000 tunes.  I then synced with another computer with the updated iTunes software they just sent out.  Then had to rebuild my apps and music on the phone.  I used Tune-Up plug-in to help with the music with covers and dupes, etc.  It took me till 1 am last night but it's now working and syncing ok. I have about 1,000 tunes on the phone now, with no dupes and 95% of the cover artwork. Without Tune-Up it would take me a week to get the dupes out and covers for all the albums. I think the problems started when Apple tried to send the update directly to the iPhone rather than thru iTunes like they had always done before.  I turned off the cloud and am syncing and backing up with my computer and home sharing is turned off. That method worked very well for the last few years.   It seems like the combination of home sharing, the cloud and 5.0.1 software caused a lot of problems.  Hopefully I have it under control now, or at least until the next software update.  It was a major pita.

  • Upside Down Opening Screen

When I open my ipad the opening screen is upside down . I have to turn it upside down to unlock it. When I open an app then it turns right side up. How can I fix this problem?

Have you tried a reset? It can fix a lot of weird issues.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Response time of query utterly upside down because of small where clause change

    Hello,
I'm wondering why a small change on a where clause in a query has a dramatic impact on its response time.
Here is the query, with its plan and a few details:

    SELECT xyz_id, time_oper, ...
         FROM (SELECT

Everything that comes inside the "select * from(...) view" parentheses is defined in a view. We've noticed that the line "AND d.payed = 'N'" (commented above) is the guilty clause: the query takes one or two seconds to return between 400 and 500 rows if this line is removed, when included in the query, the response time then switches to *hours* -sic !- but then the result set is empty (no rows returned). The plan is exactly the same whether this "d.payed = 'N'" is added or removed, I mean the nb of steps, access paths, join order etc., only the rows/bytes/cost columns values change, as you can see.
We've found no other way of solving this perf issue but by taking out this "d.payed = 'N'" condition and setting it outside the view along with view.DISTRIB_CODE and view.TIME_OPERATION.
But we would like to understand why such a small change on the XYZ.PAYED column turns everything upside down that much, and we'd like to be able to tell the optimizer to perform this check on payed = 'N' by itself in the end, just like we did, through the use of a hint if possible...
Anybody ever encountered such a behaviour before ? Do you have any advice regarding the use of a hint to reach the same response time as that we've got by setting the payed = N condition outside of the view definition ??
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Regards,
    Seb

I am really sorry I couldn't get back earlier to this forum...
Thanks to you all for your answers.
First I'd just like to correct a small mistake I made, when writing
"the query takes one or two seconds": I meant one or 2 *minutes*. Sorry.

    XYZ_PAYMT_STATE_IND            PAYMENT_STATE
    XYZ_PK                         XYZ_ID
    XYZ_TO_PO_IDX                  TO_PO
    XYZ_UK                         XYZ_NUM
For ex. XYZ_CANCEL_STATE_IND on CANCEL_STATE seems superfluous to me, as the column may only contain Y or N (or be null)...
    > Have you traced both cases to compare statistics? What differences did it reveal?
Yes but it only shows more of *everything* (more tables blocks accessed, the same
for indexes blocks, for almost all objects involved) for the slowest query !
Greping WAIT on the two trc files made for every statement and counting the
object IDs access show that the quicker query requires much less I/Os; the
slowest one overall needs much more blocks to be read (except for the indexes
    DNSG_NI1 or DNPE_XYZ for example). Below I replaced obj# with the table/index
name, the first column is the figure showing how many times the object was
accessed in the 10053 file (I ctrl-C'ed my second execution ofr course, the
figures should be much higher !!):
    [login.hostname] ? grep WAIT OM-quick.trc|...|sort|uniq -c
        335 XYZ_SUMMARY
      20816 AAAA_DSMM_XYZ_UK (index on xyz_summary.xyz_id)
        192 XYZ
       4804 XYZ_INFO
        246 XYZ_SEGMENT

       2182 DNIN_IDX_NI5     (index on xyz.xyz_id)
        877 DNSG_NI1         (index on xyz_segment.xyz_id, segment_status)
        980 DNTI_NI1         (index on xyz_ticket.xyz_id, ticket_status)
        850 DNPE_XYZ         (index on xyz_pnr_ers.xyz_id)
    [login.hostname] ? grep WAIT OM-slow.trc|...|sort|uniq -c
       1733 XYZ_SUMMARY
      38225 AAAA_DSMM_XYZ_UK  (index on xyz_summary.xyz_id)
       4359 XYZ

         29 DNSG_NI1
       2475 DNTI_NI1

The overwhelmingly dominant wait event is by far 'db file sequential read':
    [login.hostname] ? grep WAIT OM-*elect.txt|cut -d"'" -f2|sort |uniq -c
         36 SQL*Net message from client
         38 SQL*Net message to client
    107647 db file sequential read

1 latch: object queue header operation
          3 latch: session allocation
    > It will be worth knowing the estimations...
It show the same plan with a higher cost when PAYED = N is added:

Predicate Information (identified by operation id):

       2 - access("D"."CANCEL_STATE"='N')
    SQL> select * from sb11.dnr d

  • Flipping (upside-down) the image on the iMac display

My imac G5 20" (no iSight) sits way too high on my desk.
I want to turn it upside down so the screen is lower.
Is there a way to inverse the screen display? 3rd party software, etc...?
    Thanks

The foot is removable on the iMac G5 computers prior to the iSight version.
They did this so that you could install a wall-mount adapter.
But, if you do this, consider that you do need air-space under the iMac G5 for ventilation.
Probably your best bet would be to buy a wall-mount adapter from Apple, and then a Wall-Mount bracket from most electronics and home stores. Then you can set the height anywhere you want it.
