IOS5 update erased all my app data AND all backups made prior to update...

I know there are lots of people who have had similar problems when updating with a PC but I still can't find a solution.  So maybe there isn't a solution.  But my question is this: I made two back-to-back backups of my ipad onto my friend's iTunes (on his PC).  Then I sync'd.  Then I updated to iOS5 (which did a final backup before it updated).  When I restored, I was asked for a password -- when I never encrypted it with a password!  So I tried every password known to me (on my iPad, iTunes, etc.) and I tried every password on my friend's PC.  Nothing worked.  Eventually, iTunes stopped asking me for a password.  But whenever I tried to do a new restore, it would only give me the option to restore from backups made AFTER the iOS5 update.  I have no idea what happened to the several backups I made BEFORE the update.  What a pain!  Does anyone have any ideas?  I spent two and half hours on the phone with Apple Care last night.  They had no ideas whatsoever.  They kept telling me that my backups must have been corrupted.  I don't know... feels like a cop-out on their part (even if they are right...).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thx guys.
P.S. Oddly, my iBooks content remained in tact despite the fact that all other apps were gutted of content).  And the native Notes app was also gutted of content.  I guess from now on I will have to loop Dropbox into everything.

I did look for the backups.  The only backups showing are the ones that I made after the update (when I was sync'ing in a desperate bid to try to recover my app content).  I did not turn off auto-syncing beforehand.  In retrospect, I obviously made a mistake of some sort.  At the very least, I should have made redundant backups, etc.  But to continue, No, I am not sure that the backups were successfully made.  But I am totally sure that the PC went through the motions of making at least two backups -- it said as much on the screen.  Also, when I foraged through all the newer, hidden files on the PC, I found bits and pieces of the initial backup I made, all time-stamped correctly.  I found the contents there for my iBook app, and I found backups of most but not all of my other apps (but not their content).  So definitely there was some sort of general backup that took place.  Just not the full backup/s I'd hoped for... Yes, iTunes did warn me that the iPad would be erased, but I assumed that was all part-and-parcel of the iOS5 update.  That said, the first time I got the warning, I stopped the update and backed up (and then sync'd) again, just to make sure.  Only afterwards did I go through with the update.
I am guessing there is not much I can do anymore at this point.  But thanks for the feedback and, if you do think of anything, or anywhere else on the PC where I could try to look for the backups, please let me know.  Thank you!  Your help is much appreciated.

  • Lost all app data and former backups after iTunes 11 update

I just updated to iTunes 11. I'm using Windows 8 Pro x64 and an Apple iPhone 5 32GB. Before the update I made a backup of my iPhone.
    So far, so good.
Problems that occured after the update:
    1. One Music CD in my library was split into two albums with titles 1-4 and 5-13. I fixed that manually.
    2. Available space on my iPhone decreased after the update. I've got an iPhone 5 with 32GB capacity. Before the update and sync with iTunes 11 I had like almost 5GB of empty space. Now it's only 1.31GB. There are not more apps, music, pictures etc. on my iPhone than before the update.
    3. All data of apps like balance (budget tool), Momento (diary) is gone! Apps like Dropbox lost their settings.
Hence, I decided to restore the data from the backup I made just before updating to iTunes 11. THIS BACKUP IS GONE!! I'm no IT newbie and I'm an iPhone user since the iPhone 3.
I just wish I would have not updated to iTunes 11. Apple Switzerland's Support was not able to help. They said if the backup is gone, data is lost ;(

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If you have synced your device on two separate days then the current state of your device backup will no longer have the stored data for the apps that were removed. If however you have not resynced since noticing the problem then, once the library is restored, it may be possible to restore the device to bring back the missing app data.

  • If i sync my ipod with another computer to get more music on it. Will it erase all my apps, app data, and pictures?

If i sync my ipod with another computer to get more music on it. Will it erase all my apps, app data, and pictures?

All synced media that is not already in the iTunes library on the second computer will be erased. This second computer will be your syncing computer
You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library.

  • By backing up the iTunes Library via saving the iTunes folder on an external drive, is it also backing up all iPad and iPhone backups as well as App Data and Documents from your devices?

If I backup my iTunes Library by saving the iTunes folder on an external hard drive using the instructions contained in the link below, will it also back up all my iPad and iPhone backups as well as App Data and Documents from my devices? In other words, will it also create backups for the backups? Thank you.
Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive
Furthermore, when it is time to restore the iTunes folder I copied to my external drive to a new iTunes program on my new computer, how will it merge the information once I plug in my iPad or iPhone to that new laptop to sync? If I did the iTunes library backup a couple months ago and I've added documents/music/pictures on my devices since then, what will happen when I try to sync it with the new laptop now working off of the iTunes library backup from a couple months ago since the information is no longer the same? Which information will dominate and thus be kept? Will it delete the new information/data/pictures/documents/music off of the devices since it is not on the iTunes program when it syncs?
Sorry for so many questions, but they are all related to backing up and restoring iTunes. I am not very tech savvy if you cannot tell

It would be a good idea to look into a bigger hard drive. They are not that expensive any more and can save a lot of headach. This is even more important if you are buying music from the iTunes music store. If you lost those files they are gone.
The point of having it on your PC and iPod is to have a backup. If the iPod fails, or you need to go back to the DVDs and find they are scratched, or just can not be read you have lost days of work converting and organizing all of those songs.
Or the iPod could hard drive could fail and then you will have to try to bring all of those files back from DVDs. You end up with a mess since some songs will probably be on multiple DVDs, have different names ect. Trying to reorganize it all can be a pain.

  • Hi, my Ipod Schuffle (4 gen) dissapears from windows vista right after I execute Itunes, I've change the drive letter, erase temps in App data file, verified USB drivers, etc... Can someone guide on how to solve this?

Hi, my Ipod Schuffle (4 gen) dissapears from windows vista right after I execute Itunes, I've change the drive letter, erase temps in App data file, verified USB drivers, etc... Can someone guide on how to solve this?

If you want the shuffle to be always visible in Windows (outside of iTunes), you need to Enable disk use.
Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, select the Summary tab.  You should see a checkbox that says Enable disk use.  Check it and click Apply.
NOTE:  If disk use is enabled, you have to Eject the shuffle in iTunes, BEFORE you physically disconnect it.  If disk use is NOT enabled, you can disconnect the shuffle at any time, as long as iTunes is not doing something with it at that moment (such as syncing); the shuffle's light will then be blinking (to indicate DO NOT DISCONNECT).
So, unless you want to use the shuffle like a USB flash drive (carry random files on it), you may want to NOT Enable disk use.

  • How can I restore 3rd party app data from my backup in the cloud

First a brief history. I use the iCloud to backup my iPad 2 and hardly ever synch it to itunes on my computer. I got the new iPad and restored the backup of my iPad 2 onto it.  All was fine except that an issue I had on my iPad 2's Safari had transferred over to my new iPad. That's is for another discussion. Anyhow I went to the genius bar and they said to just setup my new iPad as a new device and then manually install everything back on it. Stuff like mail, contacts, etc, would be reloaded from the cloud. So I did and I noticed that one of my 3rd party apps, MadPad, had none of my saved data. Does anyone know of a way to restore 3rd party app data from the iCloud? Is there some sort of utility out there that would do this?  I don't want to restore it from my previous iPad 2 backup because it will reintroduce the Safari problem back onto my new iPad.
    Thanks!

Assuming that you even have a backup with the data in it, you have no choice but to use a backup in order to restore that data. That is the idea behind backing up to iCloud. If that is the only backup that you have - then that is the one that you have to use.
But if the backup is bad - or had corrupt data - then you will end up with the corrupt data again. You cannot selectively restore app data from a backup. you restore all settings and data - or nothing at all.

  • Same disk space after erasing all backup of a folder in TM

I entered the Time Machine and chose to erase all backups of a very large movies folder.
but the disk space is still the same.
how can i claim the disk space back ?

Thanks for your answer. I searched that website before a no answer there.
Also no "sparsebundle" file is involved here.
I am backing up to another partition of my hard drive.
Right now TM is complaining every hour about lack of disk space. so I expects TM to manage the free space wise.
I think maybe there was a problem with deleting the backups of the folder i removed (which I removed through the TM Interface)
    any other ideas ?
    thanks

  • How can I keep from losing apps, data and photos with iTunes?

I am setting up an iPhone for the first time on iTunes.  I am trying to prepare for moving to the iCloud from me.com.
    - I authorized the computer running iTunes>>>  successful, I think
    - transferred purchases to iTunes>>> successful, I think
    - I synced the apps >>>  all apps on the iPhone were deleted
    - went back to sync apps & selected the boxes in the left panel>>>>> apps were installed on iPhone, no organization, data lost
    - restored iPhone from (automatic) backup>>> all apps were restored with data & organization, then iTunes automatically synced & removed apps
    - selected sync apps to be able to select all apps in left pane, but did not apply sync
    - restored iPhone from (automatic) backup>>> all were restored, but iTunes has not yet synced to remove all apps
How in the world do you get iTunes to save the apps & data that you have without having what you have wiped out?
I don't have anything but the following:
    - apps + data
    - contacts
    - email
    - calendar
    - photos
I have no songs, videos or other media.  I have only what is on the iPhone.  I am NOT trying to wipe it out or put info on it from my computer. I just want to upgrade the iPhone to the latest iOS and preserve what I have on the iPhone.  Is this an unusual expectation?  Why does iTunes wipe the iPhone when it syncs?  Shouldn't I have to somehow delete something without it automatically being deleted?
It is like having a living, breathing NIGHTMARE!
Can someone please advise me the steps to take to do this?
I am just trying to prepare my wife's phone so that I can try to move both our phones to iCloud since me.com is disappearing.  I can't wait to start the process of actually moving the phones.  What will that be like if I can't even get her phone upgraded to iOS 5.1 without losing everything?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I am running iTunes on a Windows 7 PC.
I put this in a reply because I couldn't find out how to edit the post.

  • What's the easiest way to move app data and data structures to a server?

    Hi guys,
I've been developing my app locally with Apex 4.2 and Oracle 11g XE on Windows 7. It's getting close to the time to move the app to an Oracle Apex server. I imagine Export/Import is the way to move the app. But what about the app tables and data (those tables/data like "customer" and "account" created specifically for the app)? I've been using a data modeling tool, so I can run a DDL script to create the data structures on the server. What is the easiest way to move the app data to the server? Is there a way to move both structures and data in one process?
    Thanks,
    Kim

There's probably another way to get here, but, in SQL Developer, on the tree navigation, expand the objects down to your table, right click, then click EXPORT.. there you will see all the options. This is a tedious process and it sucks IMO, but yeah, it works. It sucks mostly because 1) it's one table at a time, 2) if your data model is robust and has constraints, and sequences and triggers, then you'll have to disable them all for the insert, and hope that you can re-enable constraints, etc without a glitch (good luck, unless you have only a handful of tables)
I prefer using the oracle command line EXP to export an entire schema, then on the target server I use IMP to import the schema. That way, it's near exact. This makes life messy if you develop more than one application in a single schema, and I've felt that pain -- however -- it's a whole lot easier to drop tables and other objects than it is to create them! (thus, even if the process of EXP/IMP moved more than you wanted to "move".. just blow away what you don't want on the target after the fact..)
You could use oracle's datapump method too.
Alternatively, what can be done, IF you have access to both servers from your SQL developer instance (or if you can tnsping them both already from the command line, you can use SQL*PLUS), is run a script that will identify your apex apps' objects (usually by prefix to object names, like EBA_PROJ_%, etc) and do all the manual work for you. I've created a script that does exactly this so that I can move data from dev to prod servers over a dblink. It's tricky because of the order that must be executed to disable constraints and then re-enable them, and of course, trickier if you don't consistently prefix ALL of your "application objects"... (tables, views, triggers, sequences, functions, procs, indexes, etc)

  • How do I transfer app datas and notes manually?

My mom has an old iPhone that she's handing to me. Now I want to set it up as a new iPhone but I've been using it for a while so I want MY data in there to put it in the new set up. Any help?
I've seen the Lifehacker method from 2012 (iExplorer) but I am unsure if it works. Them making a video would help.
Also the same with notes. Is there a way I can export notes from her backup to my PC then bring it to the new setup without using Outlook?
    Anyways, thank you!

  • Erasing all backups in Time capsule

How do I completely erase the contents of my Time Machine backups in my Time Capsule. I prefer to keep the Airport Utility settings I have made, but would like to have a clean slate. I cannot find any info in Apple Support, nor cannot find it in Discussions. I did it once before, but cannot locate the information.

Here is how to do what you want to do:
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
    Click the Disks icon
Click the Disks tab just below that
    Click Erase
The Quick Erase option should be fine if you plan to keep the Time Capsule. Otherwise the Zero Out option would be the way to go. Quick Erase will only take a moment. Zero Out will probably take 4-5 hours or so.

  • How to sync apps on other iPad without erasing the existing app data?

    Hi,
I need to sync two different iPad, first gen iPad & iPad 2, on one iTunes.
The iPad 2 has been used for few months, and the apps/games data are said to be wiped out if I sync the iPad 2 with the same iTunes for the first gen iPad.
The iPad 2 has never been synced to iTunes before, and I'm planning to transfer all of the purchases made with it to the iTunes for the first gen iPad.
Is there any way to keep the apps/games data before syncing it with iTunes and restore it back?
    Thanks!

    Diesel, thanks for your reply.
The iPad 2 was synced to a different iTunes for the activation process, now I'm syncing it to my iTunes in my laptop.
I've solved the problem myself, sort of, when I updated the iPad 2 with iOS 5. The iTunes backed it up first, after the iOS 5 is installed, the iTunes said it has restored the iPad 2. Although when I looked at the iPad 2, all of the apps were gone. I synced the apps in iTunes with iPad 2, and it turns out all of the game's/apps's data was also restored back. Amazing.
Thumbs up to Apple, especially the iOS team.
But I wonder, what if I didn't update it into iOS 5, instead I sync the apps just like that, will the game's/app's data be restored too..

  • How do I erase my iPhone 4 data and activation lock remotely?

I sold my iPhone 4 and was completely brain dead - I didn't erase my phone data. The buyer is remote and is being asked for my passcode. I've gone into Find my Phone and erased the data, which will happen once it's connected to the internet - however, he can't connect to the internet without my passcode.
Is there a way to remove the Activation Lock and erase my data remotely without the buyer seeing any of my data? Everything I have seen suggests removing the iPhone 4 from my Find my Phone first, and then erasing the data. How does this work if I have removed this phone from Find My Phone? I'm unsure how I can erase the data remotely if I have turned off Find my Phone.
    Any insights?
    Thanks

Is Find My Phone turned on?
You'll have to login to iCloud.com, from any computer, locate, then erase your phone. Once done, restore from backup, if you have one.
That's the only way for you to fix this.
It's will not work if the phone is not connected to the internet.

  • Scheduling ASE Data and Log Backup

    Hi,
Trying to schedule ASE database backup using Sybase control center but it seems SCC version does not have Task management tab in Administration Console. Is it a configuration which is missing or is the version of SCC for which it is not enabled.
ASE DB version is 15.7 SP 132.
    SCC Framework - 3.2.7
ASE Management Agent Plugin - 3.2.8
SCC Management Agent Plugin - 3.2.7
Do I need to upgrade SCC to get the Task Management Tab?
Also what is the procedure to be used to view %log fill for any ASE database.
sp_helpdb or sp_helpsegment does not provide that information. Is there a way to find it out.
We do have enabled dump_transaction for backing up the logs. But I want to figure out %ge log fill before and after execution of dump_transaction.
    Please assist with the query.
    Thanks,
    Subhram

    Hi,
As described on offical  PDF document of SCC 3.2.7 (Page-305) you could be able back up your database and transaction logs via Sybase Control Center.
    http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/topic/com.sybase.infocenter.dc01265.0327/doc/pdf/scc_ase.pdf
Otherwise, you need to check your SCC configuration to understand what is missing. Or you need the look for a Default Backup Server if it is running or not.

i want to update to 5.1 and it says that it will backup and restore all apps photos songs and everything.so,does updating delete apps or anything or erase app data and progress??

If you update on your syncing computer and all synced media like app, music and synced photos are in yur itunes library/on the computer, you will not lose them nor ose apps date.  The backup that iTunes makes as the first step of the update includes app dat and some other things but does not include synced media.
