IOS5 Update failed on ipad 2

Much anticipated ios 5 released and i downloaded and tried to update my ipad 2. but in this process my ipad is unusable now Hate it when things are released without proper testing
When I connected my ipad2 to itunes, it detected available ios5 update, downloaded it, tried to update it but it aborted with an error message 14. as per the instructions, i was asked to restore but now even this restore is abortign with the same message. I can't use my ipad now. How do I get it back to work?

OK i did it. After many temptative to restore it, the reboot software worked fine
There is no obvious reason. Just goes on !

  • Some Sounds Not Working Since iOS5 Update On My iPAD 2

Since installing the iOS5 update on my iPad2, I am not getting keyboard click sounds, App sounds or Connection sounds. I did a complete reset and the sounds came back until I restored my backup. Now they're gone again. So obviously it may be something I have setup or a bug in iOS5 I would REALLY have to do a complete reset and setup my iPad2 from scratch again, so any ideas would be appreciated!

First make sure that you have the sounds turned on in Settings>General>Sounds. If they are turned on then read the following.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Ios7 software update failed on ipad, any ideas how to fix?

I am unable to update my ipad - when I click 'download and install' i get the user agreement which I accept, I then get a message that says "Software Update Failed - An error occured downloading ios 7.1" I had the same issue for ios 7.06. I have tried hard resetting, disconnecting wifi etc.
    Model is MC706B/A
Current ios version is 7.0.4 (11B554a)
    Any ideas?

Are you trying to update via wifi, or connected to your computer?
If wifi, locate your iPad very close to your router so it doesn't drop wifi, or connect to your computer and update.

  • IOS OTA update failed, now iPad wants to restore, but that fails too

After successfully doing the iOS 5.0.1 update on my iPhone via OTA, I started the process with my iPad2. After a while it appeared to have stalled, but I had to go out, so I left it, assuming it would be done when I got back. As it turns out, when I returned my iPad was asking to be connected to iTunes via USB. When connected, I got the message that it needed to be restored...
So, I've now tried restoring it about 4 times - the progress bar on the iPad gets about 2/3 of the way and then stalls for a long time, and then I get a message in iTunes that the restore didn't work. I've disconnected all other USB devices. I've rebooted my iMac. My iMac is fully up to date (OS, iTunes, etc)
Any ideas what I can do to get my iPad restored so I can then restore from backup and retry the iOS update (connected to the iMac this time)?
    Thanks,
    Scott

I sure disagree with the journanlists reporting Over The Air Updates working well.
We all have different experiences. I had the issue that you report when I upgraded to iOS 5. I eventually had to put my iPad in recovery mode to get the upgrade to complete. I did not have any issue with the iOS 5.0.1 update. I did not use OTA, I used USB, so my Mac downloaded the entire 750 MB iOS file and I was still updated in less than 10 minutes. The OTA update should normally also be about 10 minutes as the file is a 50 MB incremental update. I do not think that many folks had your issue because we are not being swamped by reports of the issue here in the ASC as we would be if the issue was widespread. So the journalists seem to have it right, it appears to have gone smoothly for most folks, however they updated.

  • IOS5 update complete on ipad but...

This is my second attepmt at installing iOS5. The ipad2 is still plugged into my pc (Dell/vista home basic) and it's at the 'restoring ipad apps' stage. The ipad came back on and prompted me to answer some setup questions for icloud, locations etc and then it announced that iOS5 had been installed. However, itunes says it's still 'restoring ipad apps' and if I try to open an app on the ipad, nothing happens. I'm not really sure what's going on (i'm not very tech savvy). It's been at this for a couple of hours now. Is there anyway to look at where it's stuck? Or is there anything I should be doing? The pad is a 32gb and is about half full with apps. Thanks in advance for any advice you could offer me

Nevermind! S'all good now. Sorry for being an inpatient weenie. Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

  • IOS5 update fail

I was trying to update my 4thG iPod touch to ios 5.0.1 and everything goes great up intill it says something like the servers are down or are not available at this moment. and I got the error message -5000 and it said all my contents will be deleted and all that. someone help me plz -__-

    - I think the -500 is an Apple server problem
    - Are you trying to do the update on the same computer that you always synced with?  If not, the update will erase your Pod.  See:

  • IOS8 update failed on my iPad Mini

I went to update my iPad mini to iOS8 from iOS7 and it powered off and then on the screen it came up with an iTunes logo and a wire meaning 'Connect to iTunes'. I did exactly what it told me and when I connected it, it said on iTunes that in order to get iOS8 i had to 'restore iPad'. I pressed this and then it was downloading for about 2 and a half hours when a message came up on the screen saying that i had to restore my iPad which i was already in the process of doing while it was plugged into my laptop.
My iPad has been like this since iOS8 came out and now it is stuck in recovery mode and every time i try to update it, it says that there is some kind of error.
So basically my iPad is stuck in recovery mode and i have no way of getting out of it. It is crucial that i use my iPad for College so i need it right away.
    Can anyone help me please?
    As soon as possible.
    Thank You.

  • IPad update failed, error 1602

Does anyone know how to fix this?
I connected iPad to windowx xp desktop with latest itunes and it asked to update the iPad. After the update failed, it keeps showing connect to itunes on iPad, yet the itunes doesn't seem to recognize it. Also as I connect iPad it shows in the bottom right *Apple Mobile Device (recovery mode)* and Found New Hardware window pops up. Does this mean I will lose all apps and saved files/books?

Thanks but I'm not even able to recover at the moment.. I called in and did what the support suggested, uninstalling all 3 apple programs + itunes and quicktime and restarted, reinstalled itunes, restarted and plugged ipad back in. Result is still the same. iPad shows connect to itunes and my computer displays "Found New Hardware" window while itunes doesn't show any devices. So I'm guessing something with drivers?
This is what it shows in device manager:

I wish I didn't do the update at all
You need to do the updates, because they slowly improve the performance of your iPad. And soon, iOS 4.0 is coming, which you will absolutely want, because it take the iPad to a whole new world.
I'm not even close to being an expert on Windows, not having used it in about 10 years. But I've monitored this board for a while, so here are some suggestions:
    1. Try a different USB port, if you have one. Don't use a USB hub, try to connect directly to your computer.
    2. If possible, see if your cable is damaged. It happens.
    3. Before doing this, just make sure you have complete backup files from your most recent backup. I'm not sure where to find them, but as I recall, they should be located in your iTunes files. Then, completely reset and wipe your iPad, by going to Settings, General, Reset. Again, don't even consider this if you can't find your backup locations. You might want to search these discussions with "backup AND Windows AND location" to see where they're located.
If none of this works, go to an Apple Genius. He can plug you into a Mac to see if the iPad has a problem.
Again, it's not the update that caused the problem, it's a corrupted file or something. You'll fix it, so don't worry.

  • IPad Mini - IOS 8.1.3 update failing

iPad Mini is failing to update to IOS 8.1.3.
It is reaching the Updating Firmware stage and then returns an error, " Update of your iPad failed due to unknown error " (6).
When I reconnect it to iTunes it asks me to recover and it again is failing to recover to Factory settings.

    Hey there Haparari,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPad is in recovery mode after running into an issue updating it to the latest version of iOS with iTunes on your computer. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting suggestions that’ll generally resolve that specific alert message that you’re seeing.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
    Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.

  • Recognition error after iOS5 update of ipad (1)?

I updated my ipad (1) with iOS5. The update was successful, but now my Windows XP does not recognize my ipad (the USB does not recognize). Also, now, itunes can not identify and update it. My ipad was working fine before the iOS5 update.
The USB error is that "USB device not recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows can not identify it".
I tried to update the USB driver (unknown device driver in the "Driver Manager" field of Windows) but reached a deadend. Apple online support guide says that I need to call them or get them to service/repair it. But, they need money to provide support. *****, as this was working before the update.
    Please advise/help.

I have the same problem.. try this:
    power off iPad
    unplug USB cable
    plug in USB cable
iPad should power up, and if iTunes is open, should recognize the USB port.
if that doesn't work, try plugging the USB cable in directly to the computer.
it seems to be a bug with USB hubs

  • IPad originally synced with PC, updates fail when on Mac

I originally synced and stored my iPad info on a PC, then a few months later I got a MacBook Pro.  I'm running OSX 10.6.8 on Mac, iTunes 10.4.  The problem is that when I attempt to update the IOS on iPad (as I did today), the update fails, then I have to go back to the PC and do a full restore then update.
My question is, can I make the PC "forget," or unregister the iPad, then have sole updates/restore/sync associated to the MacBook?  I rarely use the PC, and it's just a pain in the butt to have to keep restoring from a 6 month old back up.
    Thanks for any help!!

The iPad is designed to only be used with one computer, and there is no 'forget' option - you can copy all your iTunes content from the PC over to the Mac and start syncing from it, but you may lose all your content when you first connect it and have to re-sync it all back onto the iPad
