IOS6 Devices Reject WiFi connections

Ok so after loading iOS6, it looks like when you add a WiFi connection to your Iphone or Ipad, it verifies the WiFi connection with some page off the Apple.com website. When unable to do so it drops the WiFi connection you are trying to add.
Example at I am experiencing is when adding any device running iOS6 to a LAN (MBRN3000 Netgear router) although the device see the WiFi connections perfectly, they allow you to enter your security key and then run off to verify your "internet connection" on the apple.com site. If I have not plugged in a 3G dongle and connected the netgear router to the internet I get routed to the routers default setup page.
The only option I have then is to click cansel, and wooosh the WiFi connection I was adding is dropped.....
But, if I first connect that router to the internet with a 3G dongle, then any and all the devices are able to verify the connection and add the WiFi connection with no problem at all...
So just how does one add the WiFi connection if you don't have an internet connection ? and yes there are places when it is still impossible to be connected.
We run a L.A.N onboard a vessel which operates 160Kms offshore. The Lan is designed to supply video streaming (via Airvideo) from a workstation via the Netgear WiFi router to a group of divers within a saturation compression chamber.
The divers have all purchased Ipads, which allows them to view videos while locked inside the chamber for 28days continuously.
Obviously it only works when they can add the WiFi and thus stream the video, which at the moment seems impossible without the router having an internet connection.
P.S all the Ipads did this without a problem before iOS6 was loaded onto them, and the one we haven't loaded iOS6 on still works.
The divers with Samsung tabs work fine via this system.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

My iPod updated by itself without a wifi connection. It told me to connect it to iTunes so I did and I updated the software and everything. After it was updated, my wifi button was greyed out and I don't know why. I sent it in to get fixed and the Apple store did NOTHING. I still have about 48 days left on my one year waranty and I don't know what to do to fix the problem. Please, does anyone know how to fix this issue without selling it or replacing it? I've tried all the troubleshooting techniques and nothing is working. Someone help.

  • IPad suddenly rejects WiFi connection

    Hi,
I have an iPad 3 which recently decided to refuse to connect to my home Wi-Fi. When I tap the connection name in Wi-Fi Settings, it connects to the network, but then immediately disconnects again, then reconnects, then disconnects and so on.
I took it to the Apple Store but it connected fine to their network and they ran a hardware diagnostic which said there were no logged Wifi hardware problems, so they said it was my router's fault and sent me packing.
When I got back from the Apple Store I plugged it into Xcode and looked at the console and router logs. It appears that the iPad does actually successfully connect to the router but then immediately tries to check both my e-mail accounts, and when these fail giving a "cannot connect to the internet" error it disconnects, tries again twice, then flags the connection as "problematic" and stops trying to connect to it. They appear to be failing because it is sending the request so quickly after joining the network that the firewall does not have time to set the iPad up; then by the time the set up is done the iPad has already deemed the connection failed and disconnected.
Is there any way to tell the iPad not to immediately jump on the Wi-fi connection in this way, or not to disconnect the whole network just because these initial attempts fail?

I haven't been able to try it on other network yet. I did try disabling the security on my home Wi-fi and it failed the same. But regarding your assertion above I don't think the "change-each-tyre-to-see-which-one-is-flat" strategy necessarily works here - the Xcode log shows that the connection break is being initiated by software on the iPad, not by the router, and the iPhone (which is an iPhone 5, no S, running the same iOS version) connecting fine to the same network suggests the problem is to do with some pecularity of how iOS behaves on the iPad 3 compared to the iPhone 5.
On a side note this is why I was disappointed with the Apple Store response (apparently they were baffled when I suggested using Xcode to view the console)

  • Lost wifi connection when stanby

After upgrade to IOS 6, every thing is OK, but only when I lock the device the wifi connection can't be still connect. I have try reset network, hard reset but still have that problem, how to fix it? (on ISO 5.1.1 works normal)

I have the same issue, I'm getting droppeds from wireless constantly

Since upgrading to ios6, all the family's apple devices (new ipad, 2 iphone4 & itouch) are having difficulty reconnecting to the home hub wifi network. I.e, every time the lock screen comes on, the wifi connection is lost when you reopen the device and we have to reconnect through settings. This appears to be an ios6 software issue.
Is there a solution to this wifi connection issue or do we wait for a software fix?
I'd hate to think Apple is going down the Microsoft path, of passing untested software onto the user. What ever happened to Regression Testing, to ensure the existing functionality remains intact?
I bought into the Apple dream, because it was intuitive, reliable & enjoyable to use, all the things that Microsoft windows isn't.
Other issues we are experiencing are, Games are stuttering and the kids really miss the old YouTube app.
Please Mr Browett, sort these issues out.

YouTube is not now part of iOS 6.
However, you can go to the App Store and do a search using YouTube. You can download several YouTube apps: YouTube (for the iPhone, a IPad app is in work), several users  like Jasmine and YouPlayer.

  • My mac wifi connection to DSL line was down when I tried to upgrade Ipad to IOS6, and it defaulted to Ipad data line and consumed my monthly allotment of data -- How can that happen as a technical matter?

Maps did not work for me for the first week after upgrading to IOS6 on my New Ipad -- I have since learned that I exceeded my 2 gig monthly data plan and therefore I had no 4G access on my ipad, which meant Maps couldn't work while traveling.  Since I never download videos, I knew I had not knowingly downloaded that much data.  When I called AT&T, they told me that when I upgraded to IOS6 I consumed over 1 gig of data.
I did the upgrade while connected to my iMac, which in turn has a wireless connection to router connected to my home DSL line.   My wifi service has been spotty lately, possibly because router is defective.  So let's assume that when I tried to download IOS6 that my iMac did not have a good wifi connection.  Is the AT&T person correct that the download defaults to the Ipad's 4G cellular network, even though the iPad is connected to the iMac by USB cable?  I didn't think that was possible as a technical matter -- i.e., that the iMac gets automatic access to the iPad's connection to the cellular network.  (I'm sure I'm not explaining this right, I'm obviously not technical.)
Also, do you get any obvious warning or indicator on the device that you have exceeded your data limit for the month?  I sure didn't see any warning, (although I now know that I can go to Settings, then Cellular Data, then View Account and find the status of my data line account).
Thanks for any help on this.

Strange. It works fine with my setup which is no different from yours. Problem with the cable or LAN port(s)?

  • Wifi connection alway disconnect after update to iOS6

After update to iOS6 for a month, I found the wifi connection alway disconnect and need to reconnect severaly times. Plese help to suggest for setting up.

    Hello there cyldevil,
I would recommend using this article if the Wifi is grayed out in settings.
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
Here is also some additional info on troubleshooting wifi in general on your device from iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
Be sure that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again. If unable to do so, see this article.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and indicate that they are connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or ISP for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you are connected. Then tap > and Forget this Network. Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network again.
Note: You will need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your desired network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and then on again2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2.For AirPort Base Stations, see this article for information about firmware updates.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • I just installed IOS6 and wifi connection get lost

After installation of ios6 wifi connection is not stable pop up the alogin page to apple.com with an error message of wrong address. This happen on my ipad 3 and iphone 4s both devices.

Try going to settings-general-reset and then reset all settings. You can also try to reboot your phone/ipad hold the power and home button together for ten seconds until the Apple logo shows up on screen.

  • All of our iOS devices are displaying the message that they can't connect to the Internet.  All show good wifi connections.  Our Macs all connect to the internet just fine suggesting that the network is good.  I'm stumped.

Airport Utility on the Macs show good internet signals but on our two iPads and my iPhone 5 there are no indications of internet connectivity.  One of the iPads is running iOS 7 but the other is still running iOS 6.  The iPhone 5 is updated to iOS 7.
Is there a setting switch that if set incorrectly would create this problem?  Like I said before, all the iOS devices stopped internet connectivity at the same time.
Update:  Well while I was typing this I was called away to help get people to bed etc.  And when I got back I tried all four iOS devices and, now, they all connect to the internet.  I don't understand it.  Two iPhones, different iOS versions, and two iPads, different generations and also different iOS versions, all decided that they would disconnect themselves from the internet but stay connected to the wifi network.  Somebody must have an explanation for what just happened.  Remember it isn't the router because the Macs all had uninterrupted internet connections.  Weird!

I used to have a satellite connection to the internet. When ever the power went off I was told to turn on the devices in a specific order for them to work properly.
Try shutting off every device including all iPads, iPhones, computer, Wi-Fi router and Satellite modem. Then turn them on one at a time in the order listed below. Be sure to wait until each device completes its start up routine before starting up the next item. When my satellite modem was restarted it often had to download an update. The time this took varied with the update. So be sure the Satellite modem is up and connected to the Satellite before going to the next device.
    1. Satellite Modem.
    2. Wi-Fi Router
    3. Your computer. Check to see that your computer connects to the internet.
    4. iPad or iPhone and remaining devices one at a time.

  • IOS devices can't connect automatically to known wifi network anymore (only manually)

    Hi there.
Just changed my old wifi router belkin 54g with a new sitecom 300n X2 (with 802.11n); after the change all my iOS devices (iphone4, ipod touch and ipad2) are not able anymore to automatically connect to my wifi network.
The network is recognized and after inserting the password the devices connect perfectly to the network, but if I switch off the wifi interface and then i switch it on again the devices don't connect to the known network automatically, I have to tap on my network in the list to join it, even if password is not requested anymore (just once, when connecting for the first time). My Macbook and other Android devices are automatically connecting fine.
I tried to forget the network and reconnect to it, I did a reset of the network stack under Settings->General->Reset, I did a device reset but nothing worked.
I even tried to limit channel bandwidth of the router to 20 Mhz (suggestion found in a forum) but no success, and I also changed the wifi channel to avoid interference, but again no success.
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Thanks a lot and regards.

  • Device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection

please help me, my blackberry curve has been working perfectly fine (everything network and wifi connection are working great) since i got it but all of the sudden when i connect to our wifi at home i noticed that the wifi logo on the upper screen is grayed out. i checked the manual and it says: device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection. i dont  know what to do, i tried the hard reset (removed batt for 1 min while phone is on and put it back in) i also tried to remove the wifi profile and added it back up but still nothing seems to work, my service provider has BB services available on my phone, i can received BBM, pushed email, use FB on my phone using my network but i cant use my wifi to browse.. what should i do? help me please!

With a PC, the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus software will sometimes block an attempted Internet connection.
Check both applications to see if you can find a "blocked" item and then take steps to "allow" the connection.
If still no luck, temporarily disable the wireless security for a short period to see if the PC can connect that way. If it can.....then you know it is security related issue.
See if the PC can connect using a setting like WPA-PSK-TKIP. The equivalent Apple setting would be WPA/WPA2 Personal.

  • TS1398 Updated to ios6 now lost all wifi connection both iPad and iPhone no longer connects to wifi

Updated to ios6 now lost all wifi connection both iPad and iPhone no longer connects to wifi

not much response in here which surprises me...
Anyway... AS I am still looking for answers, I will share a couple of points that I realised...
in Airport Utility, I noticed that my iphone MAC address was actually showing as client connected, despite my phone network showing the spinning wheel next to the network name for ever and never actually connecting.
I am currently testing the router mode in Network to be on DHCP and NAT mode with a range from .2 to .200
    My phone is now connected....
Everything seems to be ok and happy so far...
strange that this router and phone have worked together for at least a couple of years, the phone works everywhere else, and all other toys connect to my WIFI just fine. the list is as follow:
    airport extreme
    Zeppelin air
    2x apple tv
    2 ipads
    iphone 4s
    2 mac
    1 pc
I have litterally just hard reset the router with a pin just now as a last resort... same...
I will leave the router as DHCP & NAT until a potential firmware or OS update...

  • Wifi connection unreliable only on my HP 23-h020a, all other devices work fine

We have just bought two brand new HP devices but are having major problems with the pavilion 23-020a. Basically the wifi connection is rubbish! All other devices in the house work fine and the PC itself is only a couple of meters from the modem and showing full connectivity. However we cannot reliably get internet connection when using wifi. Sometimes it's fine for a couple of minutes, some pages load, some don't, if my kids are in the middle if doing their home work when it comes to them moving on to the next page to do their online test, the page won't load and all their work is lost. This is totally unacceptable! If we connect using the Ethernet cable it's fine but to do that we have to have two meters of cable running across our sitting room. I need this resolved! We have tried all available wifi channels and nothing has helped. I hope someone here can! Thanks
