IOS6 iMessage is integrating with my old phone number

so i recently did the IOS 6 update... and now my imessage on my macbook is integrating with a old pay as you go number i was using while traveling instead of my permanent phone number... i would like to remove the throw away number from my imessage account and set it to my current phone number to ensure continuity of messages.

I have a related question. When setting up Messages in 10.8, I clicked yes when it presented me with my cell number. Now I'm getting text messages showing up on my Mac and I don't really want that. I can't figure out how to stop it.

Why does my imessage not work with only 1 phone number? It keeps going to imessage and then back to text message

Both you and the recipient have to have active data connections, and both devices have to have iOS 5 or higher to be able to use iMessage. Also, they both have to have iMessage activated. If that is already the case, there is a possiblility that iMessage is down. It has gone up and down several times in the past week. Check this page for status, and if necessary you can report a problem with a link in the lower right corner. http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/

how do i disassociate my iPhone with my old phone number? (the phone number is now actually being used by a regular flip phone and without doing this, iphones will not be able to message me via text message.)

You posted in the iPad forum instead of the iPhone forum. To get answers to your question, next time post in the proper forum. See https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa  I'll request that Apple relocate your post.

  • Can I use iMessage with my old phone number?

Just moved overseas, got a new local phone number here in Australia. I'll be here for a year, so I left my US phone number active. I was hoping I could use iMessage to still text with folks back home via my old number, but once I activated the AUS phone number it automatically switched the phone number associated with iMessage on my computer over to the new AUS number. Is there any way to switch it back to my old American number, or otherwise add it to my iMessage?

    Hi,
If you add the Apple ID to both iPhones then the Mac version of the App should get the Pop ups to say that an iPhone is using it's Number and the Apple ID
By Accepting the Pop up it should add the iPhone Number to the list of "Receive At" IDs and numbers plus add it to the "Start Conversations From" drop down.

  • IMessage and FaceTime use wrong (old) phone number

My wife and I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile (~$170/mo to $60! woo!). In the process of activating our SIM cards, I activated them backwards: she has an iPhone 5, I have a 4s. I contacted T-Mobile about the issue and they switched the numbers. Calls work, normal text messages work, but iMessage seems to "remember" the old numbers.
    Here's what I have tried:
Completely erase and restore both devices after turning off iMessage and FaceTime
Turn off iM/FT and reset network settings
Turn off iM/FT, wait, and turn it back on
Create a new Apple ID for iM/FT and use that to login
The result of all has been the same: I receive iMessages intended for her, and when I send her an iMessage it just returns in the same conversation.
Is there another solution to this problem I've overlooked?

    Hi CallItOff,
For troubleshooting iMessage and Facetime activation, I recommend this article:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268
There are a few relevant sections in the article so I would suggest just starting from the top.
    I hope this helps!

  • HT5538 How do I completely remove my old phone number from iMessage?

I haven't had service on my iPhone for over a year now, but a couple days ago I got a text through iMessage from someone thinking I am their friend "Mark". They're texting my old phone number and it is going to their friend Mark's phone (as he now has my old number) but some of them also go to me.
I've tried going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and the phone number is disabled (greyed out). I can uncheck the emails linked to my account but I am unable to uncheck the phone number.
Here's a screenshot (number blocked to protect the privacy of the person that now has it):
I tried following the instructions under "How to unlink a phone number" in this Apple support article but the phone number still didn't go away from the iMessage "Send & Receive" list even after I signed out of my Apple ID.
This seems like a bug because why in the world would texts normally still come to my phone sometimes (via iMessage) when someone texts my old phone number if I haven't even paid in over a year.
BTW, when I had service, my carrier was AT&T.

    1. Get hold of your old iPhone and switch iMessage off in Settings > Messages
    2. Un-register your old device: https://supportprofile.apple.com
    3. Change your current Apple ID password.
    4. Switch OFF your iMessage and switch back ON after a few minutes.

  • TS2755 I've moved to a different province so now I have a new phone number.  How do I change/update imessage with my new phone number and delete my old one?

I've changed my phone number since I got my iphone 4S.  Now when I imessage, my old phone number shows up as the contact info.  How do I delete my old number and add my new phone number?

Apps and media are forever tied to the AppleID used to download them.
You cannot transfer from downloads from one AppleID to another, nor
can you merge AppleIDs. If you wish to start using your own AppleID,
you will have to redownload all the items you wish - paying again under your
    AppleIDfor anything requiring payment.
Logout of iTunes under your old ID and login using the new ID.

Open Messages on your Mac, then go to Messages>Preferences, select Accounts, select your iCloud account, then click Sign Out.  Then sign back in with the ID your phone is using for iMessage.

Great question! You can go to the store and get a replacement SIM card at the store. Any corporate store will be more than happy to help replacing your card. http://bit.ly/3SdsA

  • How do I stop the texts from other iPhone users trying to reach the person who has my old phone number?

I no longer have cell phone service but I still use my iphone every day for apps and imessage. Now someone has my old phone number. It seems that this person does not have a iphone. Everytime one of their friends with an iphone tries to text them the message goes to my iphone. I have tried many things to stop this. I took my old phone number off my apple account and I took out my old sim card. But I still am getting texts from other iphones attempting to reach whom ever has my old phone number. HELP please. This person is very popular, at first it was funny now its annoying. I'm sure the person with my old number is even more upset than I since they are actully paying for service.

    Hello there, lalaysa.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great recommendations for unlinking your old phone number from your device:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
    Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • My old phone number is stuck on my ipod touch and I am trying to put my new phone number in but it will give me no place to do it. I have looked up all support reset things made sure my new number was attached to my apple id and still

I have an IPOD Touch and it had my old phone number in it, I have tried absolutely everything listed on the community support that I could find, restoring factoro settings restarting phone logging out of facetime and imessage but it wont allow my to put in a new phone number even though on my apple id there is a phone number it will not correspond with the new number it doesn't give me even an option for a phone number now just email. Can someone please help me THANKS

Where is the phone number on the iPod?
If you have an iPhone with iOS and use the same ID for Messages and FaceTime as on the iPod the iPhone's phone number will be listed for Messages and FaceTime on the iPod.
If you changed phone numbers on the iPhone, sign out of Messages and FaceTime and then sing back in. Then do the same a little while later on the iPod.

  • How do I get Verizon to move on my old phone number message

It has been over a week, 2 hours on the phone with verizon (yes 2 hours) and many promises to put the proper, "... the new number is ..." rather than the incorrect "... this line is no longer in service or disconnected".  I stayed with verizon rather than go to a local carrier so that mistakes like this would not happen, but I am continuing to get the run around and being passed from one phone number to another.  Does anyone know who I can contact at verizon to make the message correct as requested when we moved?  The 877, 800 service, repair and customer service verizon numbers all seem to generate the same confusion and continual passing from one phone number to the next.

    Dear DonRI,
I am sorry about the inconvenience and confusion.  Please tell me exactly what you need.  Is your phone being ported?  Do you have Fios service?  Did you move from one location to another?  When you say "move on my old phone number message" what do you mean?
