Ios6 photo sort order

Since upgrading to ios6, all my new photos/events are added to the BOTTOM of the list.  This is ridiculous- it takes ten minutes of scrolling to get to them.
I have the sort set up the way I want it in iphoto- but it does not carry over.
Am I missing something?
Is there any way to control in what order photos are displayed on my phone??

Yes it is frustrating me also that the photos on my iPhone 4S are no longer sorted in the same order as they are sorted in iPhoto, as used to be the case.  I sort by title in iPhoto yet the iPhone now displays the most recently modified last instead.

Not a problem when using iPhoto on a Mac, which the transfer of photos is primarily based on - not manually managing photo storage as seems to be common with Windoze.
The same should be available with a supported photo management app on a PC.

  • Photo Sort Order in iOS6

Is anyone seeing a change in sort order in Photos in iOS6?   Previously I had a manual sort in iPhoto with my most recent events at the top.   In iOS the most recent events would also be at the top of the Events list.
In iOS6, I'm seeing new events thrown to the bottom of the list.  With a long list this gets pretty frustrating.   I tried having iPhoto to a date-based sort but the new Events are still at the bottom.  I tried a new manual sort and still it keeps it with the most recent Events at the bottom of the list.

  • Default photo sort order on IPhone syncing with iPhoto

Is there any way to get the Photos app on my IPhone 4 with iOS 6 to stop displaying my photos and events with the OLDEŚT pics and events at the top - displayed first?.
This means I can only get to my most recent events after extensive screen scrolling through my library of 4700 photos.
I have iPhoto on my iMac successfully configured to show most recent events first (at the top) but when I perform an ITunes photo sync this sort order reverses !
Apple programmers, are you listening ?

    1. No Apple programmers. Or any other Apple people are not listening. This is, as explained in the TOU you agreed to, strictly a user to user support forum. No Apple involvement
2  you want answers about iPhoto for UOS but are posting in the iPhoto for Mac forum. Posting in the correct forum will greatly enhance your possibility of getting a correct answer
    3. I will request that you post be moved

  • ATV 4.4.2 photo sort order problem

I have just updated my Apple TV (I believe it is now 4.4.2)
When I view my photo albums, the sort order is not the same as that in my iPhoto.
    It was before the update.
I resorted the albums again in iPhoto, they look just right on my MBP.  They also look exactly the way I wanted it on my iPad2 and my iPod.  But on Apple TV, it's all wrong again.
I have invited friends over this weekend for a presentation that I want to show them slides on the Apple TV.  I am dead meat now.  Please advise.
    Thank you in advance.
    Eddie

I did some additional testing using my Apple TV (1st generation) and my Windows 7 computer, and this is what I found.
(This likely applies to iPad/iPod/iPhone too).
Apple TV displays photos in order of their "Date Created" file attribute.
If the "Date Created" file attribute of all photos in an album is identical, then Apple TV displays the photos in alphabetical order.
This I what I do to make sure that Apple TV displays photos in the order I want them to be in:
First, I arrange photos in the order I want them to be in. For this, I use Google Picasa, but one could also use FastStone Image Viewer, or any similar tool.
Then, I bulk rename all the photos, so that their file names are in alphabetical order. I do this from within Picasa, but there are many other freeware file rename tools one could use for this.
Next, I bulk change the "Date Created" file attribute of the photo files, so that they all have an identical one. For this, I use BatchTouch, freeware available for Windows and Mac.
Finally, I open iTunes, and sync the photos to my Apple TV.
Note: if they photos were already synced to your Apple TV before you perform the steps above, you may need to this beforehand:
Open iTunes on your PC, and make sure that the correct photo folder is selected for syncing to your device.
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to this folder.
Within it, locate a subfolder called “iPod Photo Cache” ("iPad Photo Cache for iPad syncing) and delete it.

  • Photo sort order is wrong on my ipad

The sort order is fine on my mac mini, but it's not on my ipad ipod touch or my iphone, the photos don't have the correct sequence, they're all messed up...

Sort order where? What verson of iPhoto are you running on your Mac?  I understand that the sort order on a phone or iPad is strictly date related and in iPhoto's albums they can be manually, by title, etc.

  • How to control photo sort order in flickr publish folder

Using LR 5.3 and trying to control the sort order of photos in a Publish folder (Flickr). When I drag-and-drop the photos, they never end up in the location indicated by  the dark black bar that appears under the mouse cursor. Usually appear within 5 or 6 places of the dropped location, but sometimes up to 20 places away from the dropped location. Futzing with the location sometimes gets them closer, but not always. It's very frustrating. I've seen comments about certain restrictions for manual sorting (e.g. not feasible in Smart Collections), but no specific reference to sorting in a Publish service. Is there a way to put the photos into the exact order that I want in a Flickr Publish folder? (Note: drag and drop does not work correctly... that's the problem).

Click the Action icon > show view options > Arrange by none > sort by name.

  • Photo sort order in the HP Touchpad

    Hi,
Is there anyway to sort the albums and pictures in the Photo App in the HP Touchpad? There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how the albums and pictures are displayed. If there is no way to sort, how are  the albums and pictures read in order to display? Maybe I can rename the data to get them in the right order, although this seems like a lot more work than it should be. Would there be an update to this app to make it better? Because there are no other apps available to actually view photos of the system
    Thanks!

Near as I can tell, it seems to sort based on file/folder creation/modification date, with the most recent date at the top.
I used a free bulk file and folder time/date stamp utility (BatchTouch) to organize the times on my folders, and so far, it seems to work.  The touchpad re-read my images and re-sorted the folders.  I ran the utility directly against the HP TouchPad folders when it was mounted as a USB drive.

  • IPad photo sort order issue is ridiculous. Why is this not fixed?

    Apple,
Sometimes you might want to come down from the mountain and just fix the most obvious and insanely frustrating issues with your software. The one that rises to the top at the moment is when images are imported to iPad from folders (not iPhoto) they are not sort by name. Whose universe are you in that thinks this is helpful to anyone not using iPhoto and why did the 4.2 update not fix this issue. The iPad is made to present photos in the most amazing way. One of the top three uses for the device. Third party apps for photo presentation/portfolio are a sorry lot of problems and forcing them to import one image at a time is brutal.
This may also be a good time to rant about changing the orientation switch on the side of the iPad. That was one thing that just worked now it doesn't. You now need to take 5 steps to stop the orientation from changing. Again in what universe is this a good idea?
Thanks for all the incredible things you make but please take a minute and fix the simple stuff.

Apple does not really read these forums. If you want to make a suggestion to Apple go here:

  • Ipad Photos sort order

I'm posting this entry to add my voice to the group of iPad users who have reported a defect in the order that the iPad displays photos, in the hope that Apple iOS and iTunes development will soon provide a fix for this defect.  The following is a description of my encounter with this defect, using a new iPad (3) with  iOS 6.0 and iTunes 10.7.0.21.
I have a set of 1000 photos on my Windows 7 64-bit PC.  I re-arranged the photos in an order different from the order that they were taken with the digital camera.  I did a mass rename of the photo files so that the first file in this re-arrangement is named P0001, the second file is named P0002, etc.  I used iTunes on the PC to import the phptos into the iPad.  I checked the order of these photos displayed on the iPad and it matched the order P0001, P0002, etc.  I disconnected the iPad and exited from iTunes.  Later I reconnected the iPad and started iTunes.  I checked the order of these photos displayed on the iPad and it DID NOT match the order P0001, P0002, etc.  I found that it matched the order in which the photos were taken.
I consider this a defect because the order of displaying the photos is not consistent from the first time to the second time.  I would like the iPad to always display photos in the order of the ascending sequence of the photo file names.

When you say that you've followed instructions in other posts, have you tried deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over in the correct order ? The location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Photo sorting order on ipad2

I am using Aperature on my MacBook and have the photos set to show in descending order but when I sync with my Ipad 2 the photos show in ascending order. I want them in decending order on the ipad. Any ideas?

I did a test case and it did.  Here is what the "king" wrote:
"Albums/events synced fron iPhoto via iTunes should copy over in the same order that they appear in iPhoto, and I'm not aware that that has changed in iOS 5. You could try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over in the correct order - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314 "
I followed the steps in the link for deleting my photo cache and it worked like a charm.  I tested by date order and title order and they sync just fine.  My photos were in an  ALBUM created in iPhoto.  Give it a try.

  • HT4221 I arranged my photos in order on my PC and when I synced them to my ipad they appeared in a completely different order. How can I get my folders to transfer exactly how they are on my PC?

I arranged my photos in order and in folders on my PC. When I synced them to my IPad they were in the correct folders but completely out of order. How can I get them to sync in the order they appear on my PC?.

On iOS 5 (if viewing individual photo albums on the iPad) the photo sorting order should be by filename, on iOS 4 it's date taken (from here) :
iOS 4 sorts photos by the Date Taken tag of the photos. Specifically, your device uses the pictures' EXIF tags to determine the Date Taken information. Your device will look for the following EXIF tags within your pictures:
    Capture Date
    Date Time Digitized
    Date Time Original
    Last Modified
So you will need to change their names or their dates

  • N9 Photo Gallery sort order - based on what?

    Hello,
I am thrilled with my N9, but have one problem: I want to use the phone to keep not only photos made with it. I therefore saved extra photos in the Pictures folder. They appear in the gallery, but in a weird order, not based on either the name, EXIF date, modification date or creation date. Is there a possibility to sort them on either of these? All I want is to control the sort order. After all, it is MY gallery...
On my previous phone (N8) sorting was based on the last modification date. Also not optimal (EXIF date would have been perfect) but still controllable.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, maybe those pictures were never edited outside the phone, I don't know.
Anyway, I believe I found the explanation: I exported the photos from Picasa, maxing them to a resolution of 1600xXXX. This way all files were created... today. Nevertheless the EXIF information is correctly saved by Picasa, so Date Image Taken was preserved. Although I modified in all files the creation date to be equal to EXIF Date Image Taken (ACDSee/batch/AdjustTimeStamp) , and then also renamed all pictures based on that, the "new" creation date still remains saved somewhere in the picture files and the Gallery sorts the pictures on it! The pictures were sorted in the reversed order I exported them from Picasa... Bad.
Anyway, since this is not a request forum, it would be futile to say (again) that Nokia should use the EXIF Date Picture Taken for picture sorting. So I don't say it (!).

  • Sort order in iCloud shared photo stream

I have an album of photos in iPhoto v9.5.1 which I want to share using the iCloud shared photo stream.  I've carefully sorted the photos in the album.  But when I create and send the invite for the shared photo stream, it automatically re-orders the photos by date and greys out in the menu all other sorting orders.  In other words it entirely ignores the work I put into creating the sort order.
    Is there a fix?

please apple tell me what I have to pay for that a better solution? I will do it!   Photostream makes sense only with possibilties to sort the photos inside a stream! and to sort the streams !! you did such a great job with icloud and photo stream - but it is not finished!!!!
    Thanks a lot in advance!
You are trying to use Shared Photo Streams as shared Photo albums or slideshows, but they are intended as communication channels, not as online albums.  If you treat them as streams, as they are intended to be used, it makes perfectly sense, that the images appear in the order they have been added.  Drop a photo into the stream, your friend will send a different photo back, etc. Any other sort order would make the streaming cumbersome, when the stream gets long. You will want to see the most recently added photo at the head of the stream, to see immediately what is new.  iPhoto on iOS device has web journals and slideshows to share online with friends, but in iPhoto on a Mac these are still missing.
I'd like to encourage you to send feedback about the usuability to the developers. After all, right now the iCloud drive and the new Photos.app for storing photos in the cloud is under developement. Since nothing at all has been announced yet how this feature will integrate with iPhoto and Aperture on a Mac, feedback will be very useful.

  • IPhone photo album file name sort order

I have a folder with photos in it on my Mac.  When I sync the folder to my iPhone and view the photos on the phone, the photos are not displaying in file name sort order.  The file names of the photos are numbers (001, 002, 003 etc.).  It seems the photos are being displayed in date created order and not in the file name order.  The album with photos on my Mac is arranged / sorted by the name when syncing.
Is there a way to have the photos in the iPhone album displayed in file name sort order?
    Thanks,
    David

Focus Point (not free, no ads) will allow you to rename the files, add descriptions, and sort in a variety of ways. But it won't let you do anything in the main screen except browse your photo albums or camera roll, select one, and then you can do a search within that album or camera roll--and then if and only if the photo has a filename or description can you search for it. Bottom line: be sure to give your photos a proper file name and add a description.
