Ios6 update server down?

I updated my iPad (3) to ios6 when it came out. Afterwards, I occasionally checked for any additional update and simply got the normal message that my OS was up-to-date.
Today, when I check for Softare Updates, I get the error, "Unable to Check for Update - an error occurred while checking for a software update."
Is this an Apple server issue?
I rebooted my iPad and still get the same error.
Last night it was working normally.

it is now working normally.
As I susected, it was a server or network issue, and very temporary.
I once again get the message that my softare is up-to-date.
Case Closed.....

  • Itune apps updating server down?

In my iPhone iTune and iTune apps dating is fine.
    I visit https://developer.apple.com/support/system-status/ .
I have got 5 apps need to updating. But iTune tried to connect to apps updates server.
Do you have iTune App Store announce?
    None on System Status website.

Yes it is down. This is a problem that many users are experiencing now. Apple is working on the fix for this.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this will work.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store. Apple needs to fix this, because you cant fix it. It is a workaround only.
if nothing else works, update the apps in iTunes on your computer and sync them to the iPad.

  • Iphone 4 error message while in wifi "safari can not open page because server stopped responding" after iOS6 update

I am currently using my Iphone 4 in wifi networks only after canceling my cell phone plan. Over the weekend I did the IOS6 update on the iphone as well as updated my macbooks itunes and OS X operating systems updates that were available.  Since that my iphone's safara app won't connect.  After it trys to connect for a minute or 2 I recieve the message: "safari can not open page because server stopped responding".  However ALL other apps that require the phone to be connected to wifi for use work properly, i.e app store, imessage, pinger, facebook, etc.  I have checked all network setting and they looked right to me.  Anything I'm missing, ideas to try, or am I sol (lol)?  Safari worked perfectly before the update so I thought I might have done something wrong or forgot to change some type of setting.
    Thank you!

If you can access Facebook while on Wifi at home, but you are unable to access it while away running on your carrier's 2G network, I could phone your carrier.  You have already completed the Cellular Data troubleshooting for the iPhone, so any limitations keeping your from connecting to Facebook over cellular will have to be answered by your carrier.

  • Present version 7.0.1, get update available for 8.0.1. Fire off the update which starts a down load and finishes. Then get "connect to update server" that never connects. This has happened over a 2 week period.

My 7.0.1 program tells me there is an update available, 8.0.1..
I fire off the update which downloads an installer.
When I restart firefox to get the update installed, it does the restart and fires off an new window stating it is contacting the update server. This will continue to contact for 30 minutes with no connection made.
So my browser stays at 7.0.1.
    Windows Vista Ultimate, sp2 64-bit.

OK. That worked. Any idea why the original update does not function? Is it pointing to a bad site name? Curious minds would like to know and I think the folks should clear up the issue.

  • Software Update Server not supplying updates

    Greetings All,
I started a SUS on a running server. After configuring it I left it to download all the updates. The updates appear in the list displaying that they are copied and enabled. When I then "pointed" one of the local clients towards it and ran Software Update on the client machine it returned the message that there were no new updates relevant to the machine to be found on the server. Then I tried entering the path to the index file into Safari and it came up making me believe that there were no issues with the connection between the two machines. Since the server must be the problem I then tried this command on the server:
    +grep swupd /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist > ~/Desktop/update.txt+
When inspecting the update.txt file I noticed that it was completely empty. After consulting the manual yet again I looked into the /usr/shar/swupd/ directory and found that there were a vast quantity of data in the /html/content/downloads/ directory. After reading a few posts I decided to delete all this data and allow the server to download them again. Now the directory contains 15GB but the issue remains. A grep of com.apple.server.swupdate.plist still comes up empty.
The only errors that I see in the log are these:
[Mon Sep 28 10:29:28 2009] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
[Mon Sep 28 10:29:34 2009] [notice] Apache/1.3.41 (Darwin) configured -- resuming normal operations
[Mon Sep 28 10:29:34 2009] [notice] Accept mutex: flock (Default: flock)
Any ideas? Have I missed something very obvious?
Thank you for your time and effort on this forum!

I have been running Software Update Server since a few days after the Mac Mini Server came out. It really helps the other macs in my household get their updates fast - when it works.
After "a while", the clients stop seeing updates - all at the same time. So, it's not a client problem. The thing that no one else has pointed out is that the "Your software is up to date." message on the client is abnormal.
In a normal up-to-date client, the "*Your software is up to date.*" modal dialog rolls down from an empty list of updates.
In this failure case, the modal dialog rolls down from the "*Software updates are available for your computer. Do you want to install them?*" window. This suggests (to me) that the Software Update client saw some indication that an update was available, but later decides not.
Since this is hard to describe, I've taken a few pictures:

The extra startup pages are temporary -- read them. The next time
Firefox comes up you should be back to starting with your normal home page.
Note: Firefox must be down once the install starts.
:Close Firefox with File>Exit. Then make sure Firefox is not running --

Ok so I reset my ipod touch 4th gen and it got stuck on the apple logo screen and holding down the buttons just made it turn off for a few seconds and go straight back onto the logo screen, nothing was happening with it connecting to itunes either. But I held the home and the power button down at the same time while connected to my laptop and then when the logo reappeard I released the power button and it came up with with the itunes logo and the usb logo. It then allowed me to select restore on itunes which I did but a box popped up saying "The ipod software update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." • ITunes cannot restore, software update server can't be contacted

    Hello,
I received a 2008 iPod Classic hand-me-down from a friend, and wanted to format it and start using it.  I formatted the drive in windows, and now when I start iTunes (using version 10.6.3.25), I get the following message "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted.  You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.  You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."  When I try to restore, it holds on "contacting the iPod software update server," and then tells me that the iPod software update server could not be contacted.
I have looked around for solutions, and tried quite a few of them.  I unchecked the boxes in internet options (automatically detect settings), deleted the itunespref xml file, used hostsxpert to reset the hosts file, and so on.  I still have the same problem.
So here I am, posting on the forum asking for someone's expert help.  Here is the little log that iTunes spits out for me:

Ok, I've got it all figured out, and wanted to leave a note here for posterity.  Here's what I did.
After reading all of planb77's excellent suggestions and going through the links he sent, I decided to look at other aspects of iTunes and see if the problem was not limited to restoring my iPod.  When I found that my iTunes store didn't work, I checked the forum for those issues, and found that AT&T Communication Manager was a common culprit in working with iTunes.
After 70 minutes on hold and a fruitless hour on the phone with AT&T trying to uninstall bytemobile optimization client, I left the AT&T guy insisting that it was not AT&T's problem, but rather Apple's.
I then looked further into bytemobile and iTunes, and found an elegantly simple solution, written in all caps: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3888541?start=0&tstart=0.  You'll see it there.  To spare you the link change, the advice was to uninstall iTunes 10 and everything else apple-related, download and install iTunes 9.2, find and delete the latest "itunes library.itl", and run your new iTunes.  It solved my problem of restoring my iPod, and, incidentally, allowed me to access iTunes store.  So there you have it.  Problem solved.
planb77, thanks again for your persistence.  While you didn't solve my problem, you eliminated many of the other possiblities, and led me to some other links.

Try rebooting your router and or cable modem. Unplug it/them for about 30 seconds and then plug back in. See if it works then. Reboot your iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
