Ios7 iPad Mail App Using 2.3 GB???

My ios7 iPad mail app is using 2.3 GB despite deletion of all mail from all accounts. Why? How do I correct?
Many thanks,
Bill

Hi Rosesatt,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that situations like this can be very frustrating and you have already done a great job with troubleshooting already. One further step that I would recommend would be forcing the Mail application to close and then open it fresh. Please use the attached article as a guide.
Force an app to close in iOS
Have a great day,

  • On my iPad home screen, the mail app used to indicate the number of new emails I had with a number in a red circle.  This has vanished since I upgraded.  Does anyone know why, and how to restore this?

On my IPad 2 home screen, the mail app used to indicate the number of new messages with a number in a red circle, next to the app.  This has vanished, I think about the same time as when I upgraded to the new OS.  Does anyone know why and how to restore this feature?

Thanks.  While you were replying to my question, I went into notifications and figured
it out.  Appreciate the quick response!

  • Is there a way to set the iPad Mail app to only get email manually, not automatically when the app is opened?

I usually don't use my iPad Mail app to check my email, but sometimes I go into the Mail app just to send a test email or check an attachment in the Sent folder or some such, and every time I enter the app, Mail checks for new email. Which means it ends up downloading five hundred emails or so if I haven't been to the app in a while. Annoying! I haven't been able to find a setting that will stop Mail from checking for new Mail when I go into the app; is there such a setting?

You can turn mail off in the settings but then you can't use it for anything, including the "test" that you want to perform.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Account Name>Mail>Off. That totally turns off the mail account.
As long as mail is turned on and you launch the app, it will look for an download new mail.

  • Stop email checking when first entering iPad Mail app?

Whenever I enter the iPad Mail app, it automatically downloads my messages even though I have all my fetch settings set to "manual". Is there a way to disable this? I only want to fetch messages when I say so. For example, in Mac OS Mail, I check my email manually -- when I first launch the Mac OS Mail app, nothing happens until I click "Get Mail".
I'd like to have a little more control with iPad Mail. Any ideas?

even though I have all my fetch settings set to "manual"
There seems to be several places to set this ... did you set them all
    to manual.
I did, and yes, I still have the problem you mention, the iPad seems
to always keep open the connection which means that it shuts out
my other devices from connection to email because of server resource
    contention.
It is funny that the email should be designed this way. It ought to
be fully manual because of the nature of the use of the device, and
the nature of the intermittent wifi connections. There is no point to
keep it open if one is moving around and the network connection keeps
going in and out, or being lost.
I like the fully manual idea, I click the mailbox I want to look at. It
shows me the mail, highlights the new ones, and then I can view or
not, and when I am done it all shuts down, freeing resouces on the
server and being a good citizen, like all Apple devices ought to be.
This is behaving like Outlook Express or something!

  • I didn't set up my outlook on my ipad mail app; how did it know/input my e-mail account?

I didn't set up my outlook e-mail account on my ipad mail app; how did it know/input my e-mail account?
I went to my mail app today, with the intention of setting it up with my e-mail account for the first time.  All of the e-mail associated with my outlook account was already there.  There does not appear to be a sign in or out for the app and I never set it up.  No one that uses my Ipad set it up.  My Itunes account, etc. is associated with that e-mail, but how did the information get synced there?

Follow up:  Is it somehow associated with my wireless network at home?  Am I only able to access the e-mail account on my mail app while I am sharing the server that my outlook account is associated with?

  • Ipad mail app quits on launch. Help? Any solutions?

IPad mail app quits on launch. Help? Any solutions?

Try quitting the Mail app like I describe and then reset your iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. The reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • After password changed, Gmail is not working on iPad mail apps.

After Gmail password changed, iPad mail app's not working.
I changed  password on ipad setting too.
But its showed ' Theuser name or password for "Gmail" is incorrect. '
I can use Gmail from safari.
    Why?

Try this. Even if the outgoing primary server states that the username and password are optional, fill them in anyway.
Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails.

  • After ios7 update, mail app showing 1 unread msg but there are no unread msgs. Fix?

After updating to iOS7, the mail app icon shows I have 1 unread message, however, all emails have been read. I logged in on the PC to make sure all were read. This also happened with a previous Android phone I had and there was no fix :/ I have tried restarting the phone and app itself but this hasn't worked so far.

If you've updated to IOS 7(GRRRRR) on your ipod/ipad/iphone you may be seeing you have dozens of unread emails in your inbox, even though you know you haven't.
This is a famous Apple glitch that they so far refuse to cure.
All the forums stick to the same line ie "mark all read" only to find it works only for the next email to come in and it's back again. I had 10000 odd from years back.
    Here's a solution,it works with Hotmail/Live Mail/Gmail and all web based emails;
Log into your webmail on a computer via your browser, create a folder called,Archive or something like that, highlight all your emails and move them to that box, your inbox will now be empty but you've lost nothing,go to your Apple object and restart it,all your emails will move to that box and now not appear on your phone-unless your last 250 haven't been read by the Apple server, these you can just mark as read on your gadget and it's sorted.
It's taken me 10 days to find this. Thanks Apple I've got better things to do!

  • Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

  • My emails from my gmail account is taking forever to upload in my IPad mail app

My emails from my gmail account is not uploading in my IPad mail app. I can see I have new mail, but when I tap on it, it is not uploading at all.

    Hello there, Siew Hwee.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting the issue you're describing:
iOS: Gmail account will not connect to Gmail server
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3058
    Resolution
Check that your device is connected to the Internet by opening Safari and loading a webpage, such as google.com. If you cannot connect to the Internet, try the steps in this article.
If you have other email accounts on the device, check if those accounts can send and receive email.
If the issue is isolated only to the affected Gmail account, visit this website:https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha.
Complete the form to unlock the account.
If the issue persists, follow this Google support article.
Once the account has been unlocked, or the correct password entered, check that the issue is resolved. If not, remove the affected Gmail account from the device and add it to the device again: Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Add Account > Gmail.
    Additional Information
If the issue persists after following the above steps and your Gmail account is checked by more than one device or computer, get more information about this issue. If the issue persists, consult Gmail's support site. These articles may help:

  • IPad Mail app won't auto rotate

The iPad mail app does not auto rotate on my iPad.  All the other apps rotate fine.  The rotation isn't locked.  And yes, I am aware that if I reset or shut down the iPad, rotation will restore.  However, eventually, it always ends up locked.  This is a bug of some type in the operating system.  Does anyone know if Apple knows about this and intends to fix it? It is extremely annoying.

I have seen other users have the same issue, but not as a recurring problem. In light of that, I don't think that Apple would consider it a bug that needs to be fixed. Perhaps, restoring your iPad from a backup, resetting all settings, or restoring to factory settings and starting all over again would help.
But if you think that it is something that needs to be fixed.....

  • Ipad mail app not responding

ipad mail app is not responding. The twirling circle just keeps going and nothing happens with the app, doesn't download any mail. WiFii is connected and working. I can go through the browser to gmail on the ipad and see messages but the mail app isn't working. Would like to reinstall it but it's not possible to delete it because it comes pre-installed on the ipad.

    You can force quit it.
Double tap the home button. This will bring up a single row of app icons on the bottom of the screen. Find the mail one, hold down on it until it wiggles with a - sign in a red circle. Tap on that (doesn't delete, it quits it).
Click the home button again to exit that mode and then reopen your app. See if that clears it up.
What is your mail client? If it's yahoo, you may be experiencing one of their random outages.....they have been upgrading their service for months and when they're working on the part of the data base that holds your account it'll mess up until they stop messing with it.

Someone is probably sending spam with your address forged on the To: line.  Could be one of your old contacts with a Windows machine has a virus that's doing it.  It's also possible your e-mail account has been hacked, though I'd think such a hacker would be a bit more purposeful.

  • IPad mail app freezing, need help

I've experienced my Mail app freezing twice in last two weeks in the middle of writing a mesage. I can't save it as a draft nor can send it, can't move to another folder. But if I leave the Mail app and go to gmail app it works. Anyone knows what's happening?
Thank you in forward for your help!

Have you tried the simple basic things?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app and restart.Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button.Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
It is possible that you have an email in your inbox or trash folder that is causing the problem as well. Maybe an email with large attachment? If you have an email like that - try deleting it from the iPad. You may need to do that from the server in your webmail using a web browser if the mail app keeps frezzing on you.
