IOS7 'upgrade' deleted my internal contacts?

"Upgraded" to iOS7.1 and some of my internal contacts were deleted.
Bizarrely, the missing contacts seem to be some of the most frequently contacted.
It also caused iPhone to do some screwy things with e-mail threading.
Specifically, it merged threads with the same title ("Hi") from different contacts.
Maybe test updates a bit more before release?
Also, maybe test the OS updates on the previous gen hardware?
kthx.
P.S. This is really just a bug report about Apple's buggy iOS release.
It's easier to just re-enter the info than deal with de-bugging Apple's OS, so I don't need any long troubleshooting procedures to try as a "fix."

You were not "made" to do it at all.  As with ALL updates, it was completely optional.  It will ONLY update if you decide to update it.
Iphone is designed to be synced to your computer regularly.  Your contacts will be in whatever program that you selected to update.  If you have failed to sync your contacts, then they are gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message.

  • My android 2.3 upgrade deleted phone numbers and won't let me edit some of my contacts now.

My Android 2.3 upgrade deleted contacts, deleted some random phone numbers, gave me text and email options for people when it eliminated needed phone numbers. It now has contact from Facebook and yahoo... and I can't seem to edit these and add in the phone numbers it deleted. I need help!!! I am soo  frustrated with this new upgrade, I have barely used my phone for days now!! How do I fix this?

LadyLaRee, I can understand how losing contacts can be frustrating! First, which Android do you have? If you have numbers from Facebook, those cannot be edited because the information is coming from the user's Facebook profile. Also, your contacts from Yahoo may only have the email address which is why it is showing that way. They would need to update the number on their profile. The settings will vary by phone, but if you open your contacts, press the Menu button, you will normally have options for View or something similar. You can select which contact groups you want to show or not. Verify which options are checked. You can deselect Facebook or Yahoo if you choose. You will also have an option to only display contacts with phone numbers.

  • After Ios7 upgrade, my notes within each contact seems to be lost

After Ios7 upgrade, my notes within each contact seems to be lost. Any idea about how to get them back ?

    Hi Dave,
Have you tried "Update DHTML effects in topics"? That might solve some of your problems. Otherwise a simple script that opens every topic, adds a space in the head section and saves the file may help you out.

  • Why is my iPad so slow after ios7 upgrade?

why is my ipad running so slow after the ios7 upgrade?

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

  • I can't send iMessage to some people who I used to be able to, prior to iOS7 upgrade.

I can't send iMessage to some people who I used to be able to, prior to iOS7 upgrade. I'm sure these people are still using iPhones. Is there something to do with my settings? Or theirs?

I got my problem solved but I'm not sure what solved it. I DFU mode my iPhone and then restarted it, the other person only restarted it and now we can iMessage normally. Recently I had the same issue with a new contact but the next day got solved but I didn't do anything.
I hope this gives you some answers insetad of more questions =S...
    Regards.

  • I accidentally deleted all my contacts: please help?

Somehow I deleted all my contacts in my Adress Book while researching sending a mass email. It has been deleted in iCloud as well. I plugged in my external disc to open a previous back up of "Contacts" in my app folder but it cannot be opened because my last backup preceded my upgrade to Mavericks so the last backed up "Contacts" can not open in Mavericks. Are my contacts held anywhere on my backup other than "Contacts" where I could get access to them. Since I haven't synched my iPhone 4 since the accidental deleation many of my contacts remain on it. Strangely some of the numbers remain without their corresponding names though if that makes any sense.

    Tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Contacts off then back on.

  • HT204150 i downloaded icloud and it deleted all my contacts

how do i fix this? i tried turning off icloud contacts i even went online the only names it shows are the names of 5 people i added after it deleted all my contacts.. i want to get my contacts restored to how they where before i installed icloud.. please help!!!!

It looks like you didn't do a backup of of the device just before upgrading the iOS.  Have you ever make an icloud backup or one through iTunes?  If so, reset the device and restore from the backup.  If you currently have photos on the device, be sure to first sync them to a computer, otherwise a restore will very likely not return the photos, even though it should.

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep deleting my new contacts?

I just had my iPhone 4 restored yesterday in an Apple Store for a software problem, now my iPhone is deleting any new contacts I add into my contact list. How can I fix it?

Sounds like something got corrupted during your upgrade.
I would restore from a last known good backup if I were you.
If that doesn't work I would set the phone up as new and re-install all of your apps and re-sync your music again.

  • My iphone has just deleted all my contacts without any explanation. Any help?

    Hello,
My iphone 4 version 5.0.1 has just deleted all my contacts without any explanation. Suddently my girlfriend called and I could only see her number, not her name.
I went to contacts and there was nobody in there!!! Even more, there are also no contacts on my ipad mini!!!! That's weird. What's happening?
I have gone to www.icloud.com and although there are some contacts, contacts are not synced with the latest updates, I also don't know why.
The most important thing in a phone are its contacts! I thought that apple was providing a complete backup solution, but I am afraid it is not reliable.
What can I do? What can Apple offer to me?
Is there a way of restoring an icloud copy directly from the iphone? I have thought on restoring and updating to ios7 and ask for icloud to put my backup copy of today in the morning, but it is possible that icloud does another copy and rewrites the 7am working copy. I have disconnected wifi in order to avoid a copy on icloud without contacts.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Jordi

    Hi Jordi,
I have the exact same problem and judging by the other posts we are not alone. The one thing that seems to be lacking is any official word or support from Apple - a "bury the head in teh sand" strategy appears to be the chosen response from one of the worlds biggest brands.
I took it to my Apple store and they were about as much use as chocolate over gloves and told me "this can happen sometimes"???? Seriously, this from an Apple Genius!!??!?!?
I have not had any joy with iCloud back up so I'm afraid I cant offer any help.
I will be going to Twitter and Facebook to try to get some action from Apple so I suggest we all do the same and create a noise that Apple cannot ignore....

  • IPhone5S deletes the international prefix when I try to text another country and the message can't be sent.

When I try to text my mum who's in another country, my iPhone automatically deletes the international prefix I have added, as if it recognizes the number from when I lived in the same country and could text her without any problem. I have deleted all her information from contacts, messages, calls and icloud but I still can't text her. Phone calls works and she can text me... Would be very thankful for an answer on this one!

Does the other person have their imessage on?

  • Upgraded phone to 4s, contacts in icloud are husbands, my contacts gone

I upgraded from an Iphone 4 to a 4s. I gave my old phone to my husband. I also upgraded my icloud storage. When I synced my new phone and then his I made sure my contacts were on my phone and his were on his phone. I entered his manually from his old iphone 3gs. When I resynced the phones, all my contacts disappeared, and all his contacts are now on my phone and his phone. I went to icloud.com and only his contacts are in there. I tried to change his icloud account to his apple id but it won't let me, it only has mine on there and won't change. I just bought all this storage and it won't even store my contacts. When you look up my icloud account on the phone it shows both phones on there but it won't let me change or edit it. How can I fix this? Anyone. I already manually entered my contacts three times but everytime I go somewhere with wifi icloud syncs my phone and erases all my contacts and replaces them with his.Help.

He needs to delete your iCloud account from his phone and create a new one using a different Apple ID.  As long as you are both using the same iCloud account, as soon as you turn on Contact syncing it will replace your contacts with whatever contacts are on iCloud (which at this point are his).  Before doing this, as a precaution he should back up his contacts in case something goes wrong.  He can do this by using the free app My Contacts Backup, which will back up his contacts as an attachment to an email which he sends to himself.  If he needs to, he can later open this email on his phone and tap the attachement to re-import his contacts to his phone.
After he deleted his contacts from his phone, you can then go to iCloud.com, log in to your iCloud account, delete all his contacts and enter your own, and they should sync to your phone (assuming you have turned on contacts syncing in Settings>iCloud on your phone).

  • My iPhone deleted all my contacts, My iPhone deleted all my contacts

Today, when I connected my iphone I noticed he had deleted all my contacts, I tried turning it off and on again to see if returning to work again, but until now it did not work! yesterday I had noticed that the iphone turn off alone and some pictures were corrupted! help me!

It will COMPLETELY restore everything to how it was the instant you backed up. However, you can back up your current state on your iPhone, restore from the previous backup, get the contacts, sync with iCloud, then restore from the latest backup to have your contacts AND diary entries.
This post shows that you are using iOS 4.3.3. To use iCloud requires that you upgrade to iOS 5.0.
