Ios8.1 loss of wifi connectivity 2.4ghz

When i upgraded my iPads (3 retina and mini retina) and iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1 I lost connectivity when using my 2.4ghz connection (dual band BT home hub). When I choose 5ghz everything works fine.
I did the usual reset network settings, hard reboot, forget network, disable Wifi Networking, reboot router but no change.
Can only assume an issue with 8.1.
Really tired of having to fix my devices every time Apple releases an 'upgrade'.

See if you can change the bandwidth from auto or 40 MHz to 20mhz on the router. It helped with my 5ghz router.

  • Loss of WiFi Connectivity

I have a relatively stable D-Link DIR655 802.11/n/g Router which started playing up this morning. My iPhone lost connectivity and could NOT detect the network. My router lives in a cabinet on a shelf in a compartment which can be enclose the compartment with a sliding glass door. The problem was that one of my family unbeknown to me closed the sliding glass door enclosing the router and because it was then encased in glass its range was affected as well as overheating. All was resolved when the cabinet door was slid open and the Router was no longer restricted and again had clear cool air which also allowed it to cool down. So I guess when you have WiFi connectivity issues the Routers Location Location Location did I mention Location and operating temperature is an issue to eliminate. And how did I determine what was my issue well I had to slide open the cabinet in order to reboot the router which I found was a tad hot. So much to learn so little time.....

  • Loss of wifi connect after 3.1.2 upgrade

I recently updated the software on my iphone, and now I am no longer able to connect to (or find) any wifi point.
I tried a restore of the iphone software, but I am still unable to connect via wifi at all. I am able to find the network on my mbp, and have even tried other reliable wifi locations, but not a single network shows up listed.
    help?

    Quick update:
after a few attempts to restore, erasing all data, and going through DFU mode, the wifi issue still was not fixed.
I did determine, however, that the problem did not occur until AFTER I downloaded the new AT&T carrier update--that took my wifi from 100% working to not being able to pick up my network.
I called tech support, and I have already sent the phone in for repair.
    Let's see what happens now.

  • Loss of WiFi connection

I recently updated OSX 10.6.6 and have been unable to connect to my wireless setup since. I took my laptop to my son's and it connected to his network without a problem. My router is working as my iPhone connects to it OK.
When I start up, I get a message that none of my preferred networks are available, although they are shown.
Can anyone give me a solution to the problem.
    Benwood

Have you tried deleting the network and re-adding it?
    Turn Airport off.
System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced
Click the offending network, and then the "-" sign under the selection box.
Turn Airport on, click the Airport icon in the menu bar, and select your network. Enter your password, and check the box to remember the network.

  • IPhone 5 2.4ghz/ weak wifi connectivity issues

Hello. So when I got my iPhone 5 I had a 2.4ghz linksys router and I thought the router was messing up dropping the connection a few times a day so I bought a Netgear dual band which in return worked pretty well.
Now for some circumstances I had to move for a while to an apartment and the router there is a netgear 2.4ghz and it worked fine since I was very close to the router but then I moved rooms and I would get 2 bars BUT the conection would be super slow, it barely loaded web pages. So I didn't notice this but whenever something heavy was to be loaded, it dropped the wifi connection and used the LTE data. Before you know it, after a day of watching netflix, I had used about 2gb of data. what the frick???
So I decided to test out my iPhone 5 vs my iPad 3 and the results were:
iPhone 5 and iPad 3 did well in 5ghz band, near and far, but iPhone 5 was significantly slower
iPhone 5 did well in 2.4ghz band, near, but still significantly slower than the iPad 3 near the router.
iPhone 5 was slow in 2 bars and dropped connection to LTE in 2.4ghz band, far from the router.
so my conclusion was that maybe my wifi chip is faulty which is why i'm getting very poor signal and connection.
the worst part is it drops my wifi connection and connects to LTE and eats up my data. Turning off cellular data seems to get rid of that issue, but nothing fixes the slow internet while having 2 bars on 2.4ghz.
will they replace my iPhone if I take it to an Apple Store?
would it help that the screen seems to be ungluing from the bottom? i press on it and it makes a clicking sound when before it didn't use to.

You might have to get an antenna for the netgear. My iphone5 was great with my old zytec router. It died and I just bought a netgear, and on the 5 band I still have to be close. I was reading on netgear forum, some of the routers have a weak signal. The iphone 5 has a weaker antenna than previous models.
I had to turn in my first two phone becue they would not even read the wifi on my any router.
A lot of people are having this issue witht he net gear. You can get an atenna, or get a signal enhancing case for the phone.

  • Why do I have Intermittent Wifi Connection Loss during music streaming ?

    Hello,
I have an ipad3 and an iPhone 4S and I am getting with both devices interruption of the sound when I send music to the Apple TV. It generally happens after a few minutes. The signal for the wifi is still good and I have still access to the Internet  I have tried all the recommendations of the article "iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections" but this did not help. I have used several applications for sending music to the Apple TV (music application from Apple and DSAudio from Synology) but I'm getting the same issue. I have also the same issue with the media center application from Bouygues Telecom connecting directly to my internet router. My router is a bbox sensation. I had also the same kind of issue with my old router when sensing photo albums to the internet: I had the error message "your system is running low on ressources". How can I solve these intermittent wifi connection losses ?

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Does the iPad connect to other networks?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including
    - previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    - recently used Bluetooth accessories

  • IPad 2 WiFi Connection Loss After Update To iOS 4.3.2

I've been watching with growing alarm the explosion of complaints of iPad 2 WiFi connectivity issues since the upgrade to iOS 4.3.2. My iPad is becoming almost unusable because of this issue, and this after flawless performance of the two iPad 2 32GB WiFi-only machines I bought 15 March 2011. All the suggested solutions I've read of do not solve the problem.
This is very disturbing, and I hope Apple addresses this soon.

I also left feed back.  I thought apple was also on this did not realize it was just user to user with change.  Thanks Carolyn!

  • Internet is not working on cellular data after updating 8.0.2 in iphone 5s , wifi connectivity is fine , but no internet connection error message is start blinking even after cellular data is on , please help .

I am using iPhone 5s , internet is not working on cellular data even after it is on , wifi is working properly . Please help apple team.

    Hello Mario:
I'm actually surprised that Apple continues to push out 8.02 without addressing these issues. The problem will only anger more users and certainly finger-poking at Airplane Mode isn't the answer. This is an iOS8 code problem and no amount of 'resetting' is providing a reliable fix/solution that sticks.
These issues with loss of cell connectivity, apps that have lost functionality, etc., which are all directly associated to the arrival of iOS8, are so widespread in the user community and pervasive within individual iPads that it's clear there are significant fundamental problems with this release. Given the problems are so blatant, it's fair to ask the question of how they got by the Apple validation team.
What is the status at Apple on rolling out a fully V&V'd version to resolve this?  Respectfully, when it comes to some of my more useful apps, my personal iPad has become a paperweight. The user forums are full of these iOS8 complaints for several weeks and there doesn't seem to be a competent answer from Apple.  Even a "We're aware and we're working on it" would be well received.
Any hope that you can provide will be appreciated. (I'll be monitoring the thread on my Dell laptop because, well, my iPad is i-Inop!).
    Thanks!

  • Wifi connection issues with Home Hub 5

Hi can any body help because I am starting to get very frustrated with the Home Hub 5 and it's wireless connection.
infinity 2 was installed at my house in the beginning of September, everything worked Ok for three weeks then for no apparent reason the hub kicked out all of my wireless devices (phones, kids iPods, tablets etc) at 6:45 one morning. When I got home from work I rang BT and was told to perform a Pin reset. This seemed to work but less tham 48 hours later at exactly the same time in the morning the hub kicked out all of my devices again, this time I just pressed the restart button on the top of the hub and everything reconnected but the Wifi range within my house had dropped. A few days later the hub kicked all my devices out again (each time it has done this the light on the hub has remained blue showing it is supposedly working OK)
One evening this week the hub of its own accord cycled through all the colours of lights indicating problems and that it was restarting. Today at 10:15 the hub kicked all my Wifi devices out again. I have contacted BT every time this has happened and told them about the poor range of the Wifi signal.
I do not want to be restarting/resetting my Hub every couple of weeks i need a permanent solution.
One of the reasons I switched from TalkTalk to BT when fibre became available was the fact that the Home Hub 5 was supposed to be the best provided router by any of the networks, being the only one that is an AC class router. The thing costs £130 if you want to by one. Quite frankly the £60 TP-Link dual band router I bought when I was with TalkTalk had a better range and was more stable. I would switch back to that if I knew BT's router settings (but they like to keep that a secret)
I really am beginning to regret switching from TalkTalk. Please someone restore my faith in BT.
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I hope you can understand why I've ranted for so long.
    Nick

    Hi imjolly
Sorry its taken a while to reply to your post.
I wanted to try BT's latest attempt at a solution before i tried your idea.
Since your reply the Home Hub 5 has dropped the Wifi connection to my devices another three times.
The second time less than 30hours after BT's so called fix, which was to make sure the 5Ghz channel was not syncing with the 2.4Ghz channel. Tonight it went again and BT's response was to take the router out of smart channel selection and manually select channel 9,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 36,40,44 or 48 on 5Ghz. Well I havent even bothered with that, if the prats at BT would look at their records they would see they have already suggested that.
This HH5 is the most unreliable piece of garbage i have ever had the misfortune to use. WHY OH WHY did I leave TalkTalk
I have tonight tried your solution. Fingers crossed that this works.
    Nick

  • I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi.  When I try to connect time capsule to the modem via an ethernet cable I am unable to and I also lose my wifi connection

I have a modem from my cable company that provides WiFi as well as ethernet ports for internet TV and Sonos.  But when I connect Time Capsule via an ethernet cable to the back of the modem I am unable to get it to work and I lose my wifi connection completely. I added Time Capsule to back up data and also to extend the reach of my wifi with an airport extreme hooked up by another computer.

Put the TC in bridge before you plug it in.. ie do the setup in isolation to the rest of the network..
I would also start a new wireless name on the TC so it is different to the cable router..
If you want to be exacting also set wireless channels so the cable router is set to say channel 1 and the TC set to 11 for 2.4ghz. Then plug it in.. you will have no trouble as the TC will get an ip address as part of the existing networking.. then extend the wireless using the extreme.

  • Why does my iPad often lose the Wifi connection?

    Hello all -
Often when I am using my iPad at home (which is where i use it 95% of time), the WiFi connection will simply disappear - sometimes every 2 minutes of so.  Sometimes, when I pull up the "Utility" screen from the bottom (sorry, don't know the correct name), and then unclick the WiFi connection, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on - the connection comes back.  But that probably only works 10-30% of the time.
The way I can always make it come back is to go to the Settings app, click on Wifi, where it shows no connection.  Then if I turn on WiFi, after a couple of seconds I see my network appear under the "Choose a Network..." section, and then a few seconds later, see it appear in the top section.
Does anybody know why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
