How do I get cell connectivity back after upgrading to ios8 on my iphone 5S

tried the reset same situation - still no connectivity. I upgraded the os to 8.0 and the thing stopped working as a phone .....the apple site tells you to down load a file which is for an iphone 6 nothing about iphone 5...when i try to install ios8.0.1 as a fix it tells me that I can't it trys but comes up with a message Unable to Install Update An error occurred installing iOS8 8.0.1

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Offand, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"
If these do not solve the problem you can restore from a current iTunes or iCloud backup.

My friend's computer is too slow for him to update his iphone himself and asked me to do it. I did it and once ios5 downloaded it couldnt find his back up and he lost it all. I was hoping there is something i can do to help him. There has to be some way to get it back that i can understand without using back up.

This is a perfect example of why to only do updates on the computer that the device is synced with.
Plug the device into the computer it normally syncs with and restore it.
If you really wanted to help, you would have bought him a newer comptuer.

sounds like you are in full screen mode for that app. you will not see the red yellow grn.
exit full screen Upper right corner, click the double arrows

Everything should be on your computer.
You should be syncing contacts and calendars with your comptuer regularly.
You should be transferring all itunes purchases to your computer regularly.
You should be importing all pics taken with iphone to your computer regularly.
Most especially before any update.

if you installed the find my iphone app before it was lost
you can use icloud.com to track it
if not there is nothing you can do

Its a easy fix,it will take too much time to type out all of the steps,
Check your email account. see if they are their, You can then import them on your DAV card, The best thing to is add them to icoud then they will be safe.
Apple support can talk you through it.

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

You can't delete the settings icon form an iPhone. so it either ended up in a folder with another app, or in another screen.
You'll have to look for it.
You can use Spotlight by swiping down from the middle of the screen, to search for it. If its in a folder, it will tell you which one.

However I managed to figure out how to recover - it's just a matter of moving them back to the bottom row 'dock' ! So it's actually very easy. I was 'thrown' by this unexpected development - don't know how it happened - but it's a 'non-issue' now. Hopefully my next post or question - if I have one - will be more 'substantive'!
