IOS8 Family Sharing

I am trying to setup Family Sharing on IOS8. When I get to the share purchases screen and hit continue I get a box that comes up that says "Invalid Account" "You cannot use this account to share purchases because its disabled"... Does this have to do with my apple ID being disabled because my apps ID seems to be working just fine.... or is this a feature that has to be used with ICloud Drive, and if I have this feature off it will not work? Help is very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello there, bbeam10.
It's possible that you have restrictions setup that prevent you from sharing. The following Knowledge Base article provides a good resource for more information on that:
Use restrictions to prevent purchasing on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Additionally, if you find the issue persists, this article offers another solution for when receiveing a disabled account message:
Apple ID: 'This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons' alert appears

  • IOS8 Family Sharing Limitations

I have a really interesting problem, and wonder if anyone might be able to help.
In short. We have 4 iOS devices (iPhone x2 for me and my wife, iPad x2 for home/kids - under 12 yrs).
All devices used to all use my iCloud/iTunes account. This gives us the same set of core data/information on each device. The same calendars (we have 8 - one each, a family one, etc), a completely shared set of contacts, music, photos (inc albums, etc) and apps. It works great - we can see each others stuff (which is how we like it) - plus we can all use find my phone to see all four devices.
We have four different AppleIDs; one for each family member - this gives us separate accounts for iMessage, FaceTime, Find my Friends, Game Center, etc.
Family sharing now breaks this as, as far as I can tell, you can only share a single calendar and you can’t share the same contacts…is this right? This is really limiting. I have updated all devices to iOS8, and they now effectively show up as mine. We can't do Find my Friends, and we have had other issues over mine vs my wife's iPhone.
    Any ideas/suggestions?

  • IOS8 Family Sharing is a FAIL

Well, so far, Family Sharing is a complete fail.  After adding my kids to the family, they are no longer able to update any apps.  They get an error about "Your family doesn't have a valid payment method".  What??  This after I had to switch our PayPal payment method which was good for years, but somehow isn't supported with Family Sharing, to my MasterCard.  So, clearly we DO have a valid payment method because you can't even setup Family Sharing unless you have a valid payment method.  And the MasterCard shows valid and I'm able to buy apps.
Also, no matter what I did to try to see the family purchases - restarted the device, downloaded a free app - purchases from other family members never showed up under Purchases in iTunes Store or App Store apps.
So much for Family Sharing.  Anyway, we solved the app update problem by kicking everyone out of the family and abandoning hope of easily sharing purchased music and apps.  It sounded good....evidently too good to be true.

if the MasterCard is a debit card, you cannot use that for children under 13. Not sure why we can't use Paypal either.

  • From Shared itunes account to ios 8 Family Sharing

In my family everyone has his/her own icloud account for sync and backup and we all use a common i tunes account so we can use one credit card and share bought apps music etc..
Now that ios8 will come, with family sharing, how will this work?
if i set the shared itunes account as the main account, i'll "loose" one of the family members (me) as i have a separate icloud account. i don't want that. is the solution to move my icloud account to the former shared itunes account?
also, will ios 7 users (i.e. with iphone 4) be able to be included in the new family sharing?

As far as I know this is the only info that Apple have so far released about Family Sharing : http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
It's not clear to me from that page how you will be set up e.g. whether in your case you could set up the shared iTunes account as the 'organiser' account and then use that to invite each of your own cloud accounts into it. It may be a case of waiting until further details are released later this year.
I'm assuming that a device will have to be on iOS 8 to benefit from it - the bottom of that page includes :
Some features require iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. Some features require a Wi‑Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.

  • How to set up family sharing for 8 people in my family

My wife and I are both remarried so between us we have 6 children ranging in age from 16 to 8.  We all have iphones/ipods or ipads.  I had set us up with the same itunes and icloud so we could share purchases and more importantly easily use Find My iPhone to locate devices and keep track of them.  Obviously there are some pitfalls with that approach so i recently set up one of them with family sharing with me so i could separate it, unfortunately it tells me i can only do this with a group of 6 people.  Is there a way to increase this limit or another option to maintain everyone on my Find My iPhone app without having them logged into my iCloud?  Thank you
    Jesse

  • How to setup Family Sharing iOS 8

Ok, here's a scenario that I'm sure many people will currently be in - a central Apple ID for purchasing App Store items that is shared between family members, and individual Apple ID's for each family member for email, calendar, contacts etc.
With ios8 family sharing how do you setup so that everyone can still access shared apps from the original "shared I'd" but also operate under family sharing with individual Apple id's?
Example, say we use the Apple id [email protected] as the current shared ID which has all books, music, apps purchased and has a current store credit balance.  This one is setup as the AppStore ID on each device.  Each family member then has setup as their icloud Apple id a personal Apple id such as [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] for email, contacts, iMessage etc.
I'm assuming the organiser becomes [email protected] but if that is on my device, can I still invite my own [email protected] on that same device to retain access to my emails, contacts, iMessage etc ?
Sounds as though Apple has done the right thing for new setups, but not necessarily covered existing users who followed their previous options - which came with its own shortcomings.
    Please help

    Hello,
It should be in Settings > iCloud and right underneath your iCloud account at the top, there should be an option to setup Family Sharing. Then it is following the steps outlined. Take a look at the page below for everything on setting up Family Sharing and also creating an account for child that is under 13. I have aslo provided an image of where it should be located under your iCloud account.

  • How to hide devices on Find My phone with Family Sharing?

So we have ios8 family sharing activated. My kids have their own Apple ID's so when they log in to icloud.com and go to Find My Iphone, all our devices show up there so any person in our family can see them and also Erase data from a device. I really did not want my kids to have the ability to log in and Erase/Wipe my device since they can see it. Is there some option so that parents of the Family Share can either hide devices from appearing on their kids Find My Iphone screen, OR turn off the ability for kids to Wipe device data from Find My Iphone?

I could be mistaken, but even though it shows up for them, they would still need your AppleID and password to erase the phone.

  • Family Sharing = User Profiles?

Does the new Family Sharing in iOS 8 imply individual user profiles for your iPad now???

Nothing in what Apple has said so far about Family Sharing
    http://www.apple.com/ios/ios8/family-sharing/
or any other new feature of iOS 8 implies individual user profiles on an iOS device. But as Philly_Phan said, ask again when Apple has released iOS 8, or at least is close to it being final and hence has discussed the full details.

  • IOS8 completely messes up old "family sharing" method of sharing an itunes account

Instead of my wife and I's five devices working very well together ...sharing a 200gb storage plan, sharing safari tabs through iCloud, ect.  Our devices have been completely hacked apart by this new family sharing setup. It's also going to cost us more money now as we have to increase iCloud storage for each user instead of having one large account to backup too. I can't even backup my devices right now until I increase my cloud storage on the extra accounts we are having to use.
Hoping i can can downgrade back to iOS7 and then I'll have to decide if I'm sticking with the Apple ecosystem. was looking forward to getting a new 6 too.

So can someone that hasn't switched to Family sharing and is using a shared account please verify whether or not you can still log in and out of Find My Friends separately?
This is the issue that P-T-M and I are concerned and having problems with.
So far my account is "stuck" in share mode. I am working with Apple to try and get that fixed.

  • Family sharing and photo sharing iOS8

We have four iPhones, two iPads, a mac that is our family backup, and an Apple TV.  These all used to be logged into my Apple ID in order to share media purchases and the photos we all took.  With iOS 8 and family sharing, we are each logged into our own account on our own devices now.  The apps are sharing fine. However, I want the photos to share as they once did - the computer (Yosemite) is logged into my Apple ID still, so my phone's photos are uploading.  But what about everyone else?  It seems I can only log into one iCloud account for iPhoto.  How can I make photo uploads automatic once more?  Am I missing something? I thought we could share photos with family, but all I see now is a shared photo stream that we must voluntarily upload things to.

I too have this question, and have received nothing helpful wherever I have asked since the initial iCloud Photo Library announcement both here at Apple's Support Communities and elsewhere.
My plan is to go back to using a single Apple ID for all my family's devices and use iCloud Photo Library, but we will lose the ability to use Find My Friends for my family members.
Apple don't seem to have considered families who have family photo libraries when it comes to the new iCloud Photo Library. Considering the move towards Family Sharing, this is odd.

  • Family sharing lost apps ios8

In order to make room on my sons ipad, I had to delete a few apps. MS word, excel, etc.
After we switched to ios 8, I turned on familty sharing.  Now I want to redownload those purchased apps, but they are no longer there.
    Thoughts?

    Hi jayfromsan anselmo ,
You should first make sure that you set up Family Sharing correctly. See this article -
Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing
If still having an issue, troubleshoot with the steps in this article -

  • Family Sharing on IOS8?

Just setup family sharing with my account as organizer, my wife as parent and my two sons as childs. So far so good.
When my wife now goes to I-Tunes she can see all my songs and download whatever she likes.
In the App-Store it does not show anything??? Checked for some apps to confirm that family sharing is shown as YES!
So how can my family now download my apps???
On my phone I see all the content (apps) available!

  • How To Use Family Sharing on one Apple ID ?

OK....I like the new family sharing but I got around this in past in creative way.
I have one AppleID that whole family uses.....no iCloud, only use ITunes to Sync, and on each iPhone or iPad for Text & Facetime I disable in settings all but that phone # and/or email for that user.  Obviously all the emails for the family are loaded/verified in my Apple ID.
For payment I had no Credit Card on account but bought the kids iTunes gift cards.
I'm trying to avoid having to setup a bunch of Apple ID accounts.
I'm hoping I can get best of both worlds........but have not upgraded any device to iOS8 yet so have not tried.
I'd like to keep the single AppleID, load in Credit Card info, go to Share and invite the other family members, set restrictions, etc.
However, my question is will/how does the "invite" work if all members are listed under same Apple ID ?
    Thx.

  • How does my family stream (not download) content using family sharing

    Hi,
Our family previously used Home Sharing with an iTunes account on an iMac. We could pick up our family iPad and stream a movie from the iTunes shared library. How do I now do this with Family Sharing in ios8? - I can still stream like before as my apple id previously purchased all content, but not my other family members now. I don't want my 7 year old to have to wait hours while the movie they wanted to watch on the iPad downloads on to the device - I just want it to start streaming like it used to .... any help appreciated!
    Thanks

As far as I know, family sharing should not affect home sharing and as long as Apple id is the same on ipad
in settings - videos (for movies) settings music( for music)
and on computer under home sharing - it should still work the same way.
Apologize in advance if I am wrong, I do not use family sharing and reason for that I feel it is a step back, not forward.

  • Family Sharing: Can it be used to back up multiple phones to the same iCloud account?

With the Family Sharing feature of iOS8 & Yosemite, is it possible to back up multiple iPhones automatically to one iCloud account?
My family needs a way to automatically back up their iPhones. It would get really costly and otherwise problematic to equip each of us with iCloud accounts just so we could back up our phones automatically. If Family Sharing enables us to do these automated backups to one iCloud account, then I'd go ahead and upgrade my iCloud account to the 200 GB iCloud storage allotment.
However, if I do this, does this give my 11-year-old access to my iCloud email account, contacts and other personal information? I imagine that the Family Sharing tool should be able to manage this, but I'd like to be sure.
    Thanks.

I do know that if you have separate iCloud accounts you can share with your children what you need to. I encouraged my daughter to do that for her 2 kids she bought iPads for Xmas. Instead of using her account like she had been doing with her old iPhones the kids used, she created new iCloud accounts to take advantage of the 5 gig for each account, otherwise just 2-3 devices ***** up that 5 gigs immediately.  She then set up what she wanted them to have access to, and it worked out perfectly!
I myself was thinking of doing the opposite of what you inquired about and doing what she did with her kids, but for myself. I am thinking about created a separate iCloud account then share with myself what I need to so I can gain 5 gig storage by using separate account on a couple devices.
