IOS8 / iPhone 6 Landscape Text Problem

Anyone experience a problem texting in landscape mode?  Mine works fine but my wife's hangs on the first line of test.  It won't wrap.  Tried rebooting the phone, but problem persists.  On her's anyway.

To try to get rid of the many bugs that was supposed to be fixed with 8.0.2, but still very much remained on my phone, this is what I did.
I contacted apple support and was told to do a full update and recovery with iTunes, basically wiping the phone and installing 8.0.2 directly, without any upgrading from earlier versions, that may cause issues and leave trash code/bugs. I did see a couple odd things on my phone that may have been caused when updating from first iOS 8 release to current 8.0.2. One thing was two camera storage folders when looking at the device from my PC, in which were many shortcuts to some "Drive" or something. Could not be accessed, could not be deleted. No matter.
Anyhow, I'm now done restoring my backup and all music/apps, and it seems to have gotten rid of an issue where landscape viewing photos or photo folders froze the screen/touch. This was easiest to test since it appeared every time for me. It may have gotten rid of (some of or all) the other issues too. Non responsive keyboard when writing in landscape, screen flickering black when rotating, or my favorite; recording an audio message when rotating text screen... to mention some. I'm sure there are many more I hadn't seen.
To do this you need iTunes on a computer, and preferably a full updated backup of your phone. Backup passwords and secure stuff by encrypting the backup in iTunes (option on iPhone summary tab). Transfer purchases is a good idea to not have to re-download apps etc. Also manually or with other software sync or backup your photos/videos taken with your device (iTunes does not sync this). I do this by accessing the phone storage directly in Windows 7, it appears as a unit in My Computer. Similar ways in different OS:s. After backup is done do following (will wipe phone of all data, need to have SIM card PIN and everything afterwards):
EXTRA NOTE if you have SLOW-MO VIDEOS: you may need to save your pictures/videos to iCloud for the slow-mo vids to work in slow motion after all this. Just a heads up.
1. Completely shut down phone by holding sleep button until you get option to drag on screen to shut down. Wait 30 seconds just to make sure it's fully off.
2. Hold down home button on iPhone, while plugging the USB cable into your computer (may need to have iTunes running if it does not auto-start correctly). Do not release home button until you get an iTunes logo on the screen.
3. In iTunes you should now see a message about updating and recovering your phone. Follow the instructions. After it's fully complete (phone appears in iTunes again and no action is happening in activity window in top of iTunes) you can eject the phone and take the USB cable out.
4. Set up your phone again as if it was new, enter you SIM card PIN, WiFi-password if needed, iCloud etc. At one point it wants to either be set up as a new phone or restored from a backup. Either iCloud or iTunes. Select iTunes if you have followed this. Plug USB cable back in. Follow instructions in iTunes, select the backup you made earlier. Enter password if encrypted.
5. After restore is done it should sync with iTunes (manually select sync if it doesn't) to restore apps/music/books and everything else checked. Except camera photos, which works differently. This may take some time depending on how much data there is. Expect anything from 10 minutes to over an hour. Progress shows in iTunes at the top. Also, this is a good time to untick some apps in the app tab in iTunes under your phone, that you do not use any more. I'm guessing there may be some old ones. If you happen to want some of them again you can always sync it or re download it later again (and things you buy is linked to your account, you don't have to pay twice).
6. Not sure about the camera pics/vids. Seems the official way to do it is to always use iCloud for photo-storage. I don't do this, so this is what I did. To get the pictures/videos back on the phone make sure you have all the pictured/videos you want to sync back to the phone in one folder on your computer. Everything in this folder will get synced, so if you have other junk there, create a new folder first for the sync and move the photos/videos you want synced there. A parent folder to sync with sub-folders for different albums may work, but I haven't tried it. Then select that folder in iTunes, your phone and the Photos tab. I checked "Include videos" too. Apply at the bottom so it syncs. THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK FOR SLOW-MO VIDEOS however, as they get bumped back to regular speed when synced back. I'm sure they still are 120/240 FPS, only played back wrongly. I would call this a software issue from Apple that needs to be fixed. Maybe it can be fixed with a paid sync app or something, I'm not gonna bother with it now.
7. Hopefully enjoy iOS 8.0.2 without the MANY INCREDIBLY BAD BUGS that was in the initial release.

  • Upgraded to iOS8 (iphone 5s) problems ... trying to ring contacts shows engaged; texts come throught 2/3 hours after sending; coverage intermittent HELP

Since I downloaded the iOS8 I have had the problems as described above.  Also the battery life is no longer as good.  I would appreciate any help on this - in fact I would like to go back to iOS7 but I understand I cant do this.  Please keep it simple as I am  a bit of a novice when it comes to the technology.  Thank you.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.
The responses I received over at the Moto forums said the same thing about the battery saver mode. However, I have had the same issue with the radios shutting off during the day while it is in "Nighttime savings mode" so I'm just thinking it's an oddball glitch with the phone's power management settings and clock. I have recently changed the battery mode to "Performance Mode" from Nighttime Savings" as I have the phone plugged into the charger at night anyways. I'm hoping that will take care of both my radio and gtalk issues.
@Wildman: I have heard the same thing about the GB update from a Verizon rep very recently myself. I am still going to hope for an update sometime in the near future, but I do recall the first update for my Original Droid was months down the line from the release day.
@Droiddude: Are you just cycling the power? Or are you actually doing physical battery pulls? If cycling the power works for you it would lessen the burden of pulling that Incipio case (Verizon Double Cover) off my phone every time to do battery pulls. It's a great case but wow it's a tight/snug fit.
@vereyezuhn: I understand that there are possible dead areas in which my main issue may occur. I even have a prepaid phone for the times I am in a Verizon dead zone. However, when my issue occurs, I will be in the same spot for a while. I will receive all my calls, miss one in the manner I have spoken, then receive the following calls normally (SMS/MMS does not seem to be affected either as I seem to receive all of those). This is why I have this specific issue. I have recently cleared the phone's cache partition as well as update the PRL using *228 option 2. We will see over time if this eliminates the issue or at least makes it much more rare.

Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.
All of the apps I have found on the App store either do not have the text to speech capability or if they have it they will only read a page at a time or simply read the text you paste into their window. I really do not understand what is so difficult about having this feature as Kindle provides it--though Amazon does not make the feature available on its iPhone 4 app.
    Please help.

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.

  • Landscape mode problem persists still after 2.0.1 update

The update has not fixed the problem with landscape mode when looking at pictures or browsing the web on my iPhone 3G. The problem seems to come out of nowhere--can look at pictures and it works fine---later without doing anything it will not allow you to view the same pics in landscape mode. Same goes for web pages. Once it quits doing landscape mode the only way to "fix" it is to power the phone off and then turn it back on.

I have the similar problem. When waking up from lock mode, any app (ie iPod) that uses the accelerometer gets stuck in landscape mode. I don't have a cure other than turning the phone off and on. The strange thing is that this problem happens intermittently. Some days it happens; some days it does not. But it happens on most days. Very frustrating

For each mail account, along with designating a primary SMTP server, you should be able to just turn off any and all other SMTP servers you have listed.  In that case, if there is a problem with comcast, the message send should just fail.
Also make sure your comcast smtp settings are correct (port, likely 587 but might be something else for comcast, whether you should be suing SSL or not, do you need authentication or not).
You might find the comcast forums useful for getting the settings right - I found this:
    http://forums.comcast.com/t5/E-Mail-and-Xfinity-Connect-Help/iphone-email/m-p/66 1151?view=by_date_ascending#M131151
The second poster notes, SSL should be on, authentication should be "password" and you should be using port 995

  • My work blackberry can text my personal iphone 4s 16GB, but this iphone cannot then text reply back to my BB. Both devices are on Verizon network and have differnt phone

Hi my work Blackberry can text my personal iphone 4S, but this iphone cannot then text reply back to the BB (using SMS).
Both devices are on Verizon network and have independent phone #s.  Voice calls are no problem either way, but text msg from the iphone to BB is the problem.  This same iphone have no issues 2-way texting another iphone or a LG Cosmos 2 "flip phone" in the family.  I've tried a) turning off the iphone's wifi; b) toggle iMessage on or off; c) resetting the network; and d) turning the iphone on/off but so far no success.

This is a BlackBerry 9930 on 7.1.0.1066.  I've only recently tried texting between this BB and the iphone, so there were no prior  succcesses sending from iphone to the BB.

  • Can anyone get ios8/iphone 6+ to work w/Alpine x-305s car radio w/Pandora-iPod playlist cover art support

When I upgraded to the iphone 6 plus my Apple lightning adapter connected to the Alpine 30pin Apple adapter stopped working.  When I called Alpine technical customer support they informed me that I needed to purchase a 30 pin 5v to 12v adapter so I did.   Upon installing it that allowed my lighting adapter to resume "charging" capabilities for my iPhone 6plus but my Pandora and iPod integration capabilities still were not working, as they did with IOS7 and before.
I also recently purchased two different Bluetooth A2DP 30 pin adapters  (tune2air WMA1000 and MPOW Bluetooth Music Receiver) in the hopes that at the very least i could convert my legacy Alpine 30pin connector into a Bluetooth connection while preserving the iPhone/iPod integration capabilities but no luck.  Both of them show "USB error" on the Alpine x305s screen and do not launch pandora or ipod support either.
While I do have native Bluetooth Support on my Alpine via the KCE-400BT module it works so unreliably and inconsistently that for all intense purposes it's the same as not having it. ie. the screen almost always shows "no unit" in bluetooth mode.
I'm hoping that someone is able to keep making use of their Alpine x305s with their IOS8 / iphone 6/6plus and share tips on what they did to make it finally work.  Additional insight into whether Alpine / Apple will be improving some of the reverse compatibility of this radio hardware would be greatly appreciated too!
    Thanks,
    Humphrey

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • My iphone wont receive text messages

My iphone wont receive any text messages. I can send them but can't get any. i know i have friends so i know that just no one isnt texting me. i can do everything except get text messages. i called my carrier and they said everything running on my phone so now i dont know what i need to do someone help

My sone had same problem. This may or may not help but it solved it for me.
The problem was'nt with the phone or the carrier it was to do with the iphone sending the text to my sons phone.
So on the phone sending message make sure of the following:
    Settings
    Messages
Make sure imessage is checked so the menu changes so you can then see send as SMS
    Make sure that is checked
    also MMS
    Hope this helps

  • Iphone 4s will text lots of Uk numbers but one

I'm on Telstra in Australia and my iphone 4s will text all my family and most of my friends in the Uk but it won't let me text 1 certain number, checked the number several times and all the other usual stuff. We can ring each other but no texts. Any ideas guys???????????????

I was having a similar problem.  I could not get my Bluetooth to make a call from my contacts list (through Siri) even though I could make the call on my Bluetooth if I dialed the call from my contacts list directly.  I have a Verizon 4S phone.  I was told that the Verizon operating system does not add the "1" in front of the US phone numbers, but that Siri requires the "1" in order to make the call.  I had to manually add the "1" to all of the numbers that I use on a regular basis in order to use the handsfree option with the iPhone 4S.  Apparently this is the latest software bug in iOS 5. Net, you have to save the "1" in front of the contact phone number in order to have the iphone recognize the phone number in the hands free option.  It will, however, recognize the number without the"1" if it is a Verizon phone if you dial from the Contacts list directly.

  • Any solution to the iPhone to Android MMS problem?

My wife just bought a Samsung Galaxy S4.   Friends with iPhones have been texting pictures to her, but she can't see them if she's connected on Wi-Fi.  She gets a link the says "Download", which she clicks, and gets a progress bar.  The progress bar stops, and ... well that's it.   The picture does not appear, nor can we find it downloaded anywhere on her phone.
If she's on the LTE phone data network, she can see the photos just fine.
Is there a way to have the Samsung automatically switch to the data network?  She's usually got that "auto-detect-wifi" option selection selected.  The only way to get the MMSs that we've found is to turn off wi-fi.
Google revels that iPhone-to-Android MMS is trouble for a lot of people.   No good solutions.  Anyone know what the problem is, and how to fix it?

    Oh KarenC,
The world is full of mis-information on this topic, and nothing is believable.  I called Verizon Tech Support, and they told me that Apple uses a proprietary messaging system that is incompatible with Android devices,  and I should tell all my friends with iPhones to turn off iMessaging.  Seriously?  Tell each of my 20 or so friends with iPhones, one of THE most popular phones, that they have to turn off *The Most Used iPhone App* because of me?  I nearly fell off of my chair that such a suggestion could be made out loud.
As for MMS only working when WiFi is off, that also seems to be incorrect, or at least incomplete to the point of being not useful.
I was able to accidentally solve the problem by turing OFF "Auto Connect" in the Android's Connectivity menu.  Now when at home the phone uses WiFi almost all of the time, but when an MMS comes in, the 4G icon briefly lights, and the photo appears.   I don't know what "Auto Connect" is supposed to do, but evidently it does not manage connections automatically.
Now this solution may not work for all of the many people who have this problem (Google it).  But one thing is certain:  I've gotten wrong information from two different Verizon tech support people.
I hope this post helps someone else suffering from this condition.
