Ios8 keyboard not appearing in imessage

Since updating to ios8, the keyboard sometimes refuses to appear in imessage, but audio messages can be left.  Rebooting seems to fix, and occasionally going to email, then back to message will fix.  Anyone know how to fix permanently?  I've installed Swype, Swiftkey and Emoji as third-party keyboards.

A restart should solve your problem temporarily, but there are several keyboard issues that I am having that seem to be very stubborn.
This problem happens with both third party keyboards and the iOS 8 standard English keyboard. I have Swype and SwiftKey installed, and I've tried different combinations of the built-in English keyboard, Swype, and Swiftkey: each keyboard by itself, and each keyboard as the primary, second, or third option, in the Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards panel. I even removed all third-party keyboards from my phone, and the keyboard still wouldn't show up. The only solution was to restart, but a few days later the problem reappears.
The other issue I'm having is that the text box seems to get deselected in between the time I tap on a text box to type in text, and when the keyboard actually shows up. So, I'll open the App Store, iMessage, etc. tap on the text box, the keyboard shows up, but when I type no text shows up in the text box. However, the keyboard will begin showing suggestions to me, so, to the keyboard, I am typing something, it's just not going to the text box I initially selected.
Hope I helped at least some.

  • Contacts not appearing in imessage banner

I just moved to Australia from the US and got an Australian sim card. When I text my friends in the US, their contact information shows up within the message portal but when they respond, the banner and notification in the lock screen display their phone number as if I did not have their number in my contacts. I have typed their number with +1 and then the nine digit number. When Australians text me, the contact information appears correctly in the banner. Restarting the phone did not help. I have an iPhone 4s and my software is up to date (7.1.2). How do I fix this?

Did you purposly add the +1? If you are using the dial assist, I don't think you need to do that. This could be why it is not identifying correctly as being part of your contacts. How they have their number identified on their device could be changing it. Try changing the contact to only show the area code and number and have someone text you. Tell them you want to test something on the phone and to text you back in a few minutes. Delete the conversation you had with them, and then change their contact information. See what happens then. You might have to do a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. This may be necessary after you change their contact info.

    Hello there, Brian.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps that help when an application isn't functioning as expected or quits unexpectedly.
With the "Restart" step, make sure you go through and close all applications that are running. If after performing the "Restart" step, you find the issue persists, try the reset portion of the instructions:
iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If the issue continues unresolved after performing all the recommended steps in that article, you may want to follow these instructions:
Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Images do not display in iMessage in iOS8

I have an iPhone 6 and iPad 2 running iOS8, and both have the same issue.
Image attachments do not display in iMessage, but just show a blank frame with the file name and "?"
Interestingly, it appears to have got worse since Friday.
On Friday, it was just images from someone I know with iOS6 that were not displaying. At that point it showed "downloading" on the icon. Tapping "details' showed the image.
Then others started to disappear from my iPhone, but iPad was fine.
This morning, images don't show on either device in iMessage, even if looking in the details tab.
Have tried logging out of iMessage, turning off iMessage - no joy.
Couldn't find any other threads on this, but can't believe I'm alone on this. Have put in the iPhone community as there doesn't appear to be a generic iOS8 thread.

    Hi there
Usually when you mix oil and water it doesn't go so well. (That was in reference to creating HTML from Word)
Word likes to create a sub-folder for its images when it creates HTML. Usually it's a variation of the Word document file name. So if it's MyDoc, you may see something like MyDoc_Files as a folder name.
Do you have such a folder in your project? If not, there's your answer. If so, you need to dig a bit deeper.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut (or custom) to close notifications that appear from iMessage, ical, etc. on a macbook pro?

Is there a keyboard shortcut (or a custom keyboard shortcut) to close notifications that appear from iMessage, ical, etc. on a macbook pro - the notifications that appear on the top right of the macbook. For example, I do not want to go to my trackpad and click "Close" on the notification. I simply want to trigger a hotkey or keyboard shortcut that will close the notification as I see it.
    Thanks so much!

No, but this might be better for you.

My iMessage does not appear to be working. Every time I go to reply to an existing message it just appears as normal text. I have tried to create a new message but it still just defaults to normal messages. I have checked my settings but it is all set up as it should be. Is there anything I've missed or could try? Thanks

    Try the following:
In Finder, select the problematic volume and then press command-I.
Expand the Sharing & permissions section if it's collapsed.
If the section is locked, then unlock it by pressing the padlock button and then authenticating as directed.
Tick/check Ignore ownership on this volume.

  • My celluar number is not appeared in " received At" in iMessage setting

My celluar number is not appeared in " received At" in iMessage setting although I correctly add this number in my App ID account.
I also try to switch off and on iMessage as the common recommendation but still didnt appeared , I switch off the whole device but still I can't.

You use your Apple ID email address for the "received at" (or another email address if you have another one) for messaging on the iPad. You do not use the phone number for the device.

If you want to edit a word document then you will need an app on your iPad that supports word so that you can copy them to it via 'open in' e.g. Apple's Pages app or a third-party app such as Documents To Go or QuickOffice HD

  • I have loaded new software and iMessages does not appear to be working.  All messages appear as in delivered but they will send to the same address on my iPhone.

I messages does not appear to be working on iPad every time I type a message it comes up as in delivered but I can type the same message on my iPhone and it works straight away

MMS is a carrier issue... contact Verizon and ensure your account is provisioned correctly.  I would think that someone would be intelligent enough to do that before buying a new device, but......
iMessage could be an activation issue or a network issue.
Have you tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
Does iMessage work consistently on Wi-Fi?

    Hi, tenangaku.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend closing all applications in multitasking and power cycling the device.
iOS: Force an app to close

  • Message keyboard does not appear

    Hi all,
The keyboard on my Message app does not appear. I've tried messaging different contacts, but there's nothing. Any suggestions?

Perform a reset: Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. Release both buttons and await restart.

  • My keyboard will not appear when i am using Notes App

My on screen keyboard does not appear when I use Notes app. The + sign (to add a new note) does not function to create a new note
    Does anyone have any answers
    Thanks

Try closing the Notes app completely and see if it works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Notes 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Notes app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I have iphone 4s 32GB ,the volume of the ringer and alerts can't be adjusted using the volume buttons and lock sounds and keyboard clicks available, but all not appear ??!!!!!!!

    Hi nitramred,
To start troubleshooting this issue where you are unable to adjust the volume after receiving a call, please go ahead and first force close all of the apps currently running on the device, and then reset it by following the steps in the articles below.
iOS: Force an app to close
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    Take care,
    Alex H.
