Ios8 lack of sufficient space

Three out of four of my ios devices will not allow the ios8 update due to lack of sufficient space.  I am confused on how much space is required.  The update appears to require 957MB and I have 4.2 GB available.  Something doesn't make sense.  Then in pale grey it indicates the update takes 4.6 GB (thats a huge file on a 16gb phone).  What gives?  Any ideas?  I have removed some podcasts and other less interesting apps but still it will not install.
Heres some screen shots:

Connect the iPhone to a computer and use iTunes on that
computer to do the update - updating via iTunes requires
less free space on the iPhone.

I have plenty of space on my hard drive (500GB), but when I plug in my iPhone there is a window stating the pone cannot be backed up because of lack of disk space. The same occurs with attempting to import CD's into iTunes. The hard disk was replaced recently in order to gain extra memory. Is there some sort of limit set up from the original hard drive causing this problem?

Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
If Disk First aid is unable to complete the repair you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Query erroring out with lack of temp space?

I have 2 databases. One was cloned from the other on to another server.
On one server the query takes 5 seconds to run on the other server the query errors lack with lack of disk space.
The init files are the same. The Oracle memory is the same. The temp tablespace size is the same.
    I'm stuck!
What should I look for to find out what is causing the error?

On both databases the version is 9.2.0.6.
This is the view that worked in database1 and errored in database2...
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW SAP_STAGE.MTC_STG_MEASURE_POINT_V
    EQUIP_NO,
    MEASUR_PNTPOS,

    JOIN rec_prodstat_code_measur_pts rpmp ON 1 = 1
If I qualify all the tables with SAP_STAGE the query runs in 5 seconds in database2.
Why does the query run in database 1 without the schema names?

  • Does iTunes offer a restore from other than current data on my pc?  I've lost all my pictures because of lack of disk space on my pc.

Does iTunes offer a restore from other than current data on my pc?  I've lost all my pictures because of lack of disk space on my pc.

Are you talking about restore of the iPhone from its backup, or something else? The first time you sync an iOS device on each calendar day iTunes will update the backup set for the device. If you remove data from the device and backup, then the backup of that data has gone. For this reason it actually makes sense to restore an iOS device periodically as, once used for a restore, the backup set is archived and a new one created.
Ideally you would have backed up these pictures somewhere. If you enabled it, you may find pictures in your Photo Stream.
In general you need to keep a backup copy of all your important files. iTunes will let you download most past purchases from the store but backing up other content is down to you. The user  Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy suggests a way to do this for iTunes, but the same tool can be used to preserve other folders of data.

  • I can't backup my phone due to lack of free space

I can't backup my phone due to lack of free space on my computer.  How do I resolve?  I just purchased a MacBook Air and I didn't have this issue on my old MacBook.

If the free disk space on your Mac is too small to backup and your iPhone then it has too little free space to run properly.
You need to start doing some removal of data to free up space on the disk drive. The data can be either deleted or moved to another disk drive. what ever you do leave the system files alone and work with the files in your Home directory only.
The first thin you need to do is to make sure you have a backup of the Mac first.

  • Capture ended due to lack of disc space

I am currently trying to capture a large amount of footage into FCE from 6 separate mini DV tapes. I captured the footage from the first tape ok but half way through the second tape capture stopped and an error message occurred saying disk space full. I went into system settings and changed the scratch disc to my 750gb external hard drive. When I resumed capture now the next 9 mins, 25secs and 5 frames captured ok then it stopped again with the message saying "capture has been ended due to lack of disk space". However, my hard drive says there is 670.9 total free space. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? I am now capturing just 9 mins, 25secs and 5 frames at a time.
    Thanks

    That's your problem.
Your HD is formatted for Windows - many are when you get them.
You need to reformat it (which will wipe off anything already on it).
You use Disk Utility which is kept in the Utilities Folder in your Applications Folder.

  • Lack of disk space using "Capture Now"

aright here's the situaton.. evry time i capture footage using "Capture Now" it captures it for a while and then just stops and a window pops up saying: capturing ended due to lack of disk space.
    How can i fix this?

I'm thinking it might be closer to...
    1) Set a limit on Capture Now. Never have that box unchecked. Set it to 60 min if you want the whole tape.
    2) Do not under any circumstances run any anti-virus/filesaver software. Including Norton and Virex. Sure, Apple doles out Virex for free, but FCP doesn't cooperate with it very well.
If you absolutely feel you must keep Virex installed on your system then use Kevin's script to shut it off before you use FCP:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?[email protected]@.68a85d17
    3) Do not capture to your main system drive.
    4) Check the format of the drive you are capturing to. It should be Mas OS Extended, jornalling off. If it isn't, copy your files from it and re-initialize it. If it is any other format, you will encounter problems. If not at first, then eventually.
    Good luck,

  • Capture Ended Due to lack of disk space!?

It says that the capture ended due to lack of disk space, but the capture window says: 586.2GB Total Free Space and 2713.9 min Total free time??? (im using an external hard drive) It keeps telling me it ran out after 9:50mins of capture now?
I am trying to capture 40mins of film.

Back up everything presently on the drive, then use Disk Utility to reformat to Mac OS Extended. If the only things on the drive at present are your captured video clips, you're probably better off simply reformatting and then recapturing. Proper format will eliminate the 2GB/9min limit.
You haven't said how the drive is connected. It needs to be via firewire. Apple doesn't support use of USB drives with video applications, though some folks have used USB drives successfully.

  • CSCul50066 - Upgrade fails due to lack of disk space in the /common partition

I noticed this has only 1 and 2 star ratings after bumping into this issue myself, so I figured I would help out the original poster and others who are experiencing this issue.
Presumably, the original poster is intending to advise that we read the CUCM 10.0(1) Upgrade Guide, and view the Pre-Upgrade Tasks therein.  These (the bullet points below) seem to be the salient options contained in that section.  I used the "Free Common Space COP file" option to resolve my disk space issue and allow my upgrade.  I found the .cop file in the following download area on CCO:

  • How can I select the minimum size of Elements 10? It won't install due to lack of disk space on C:

I have just purchased and downloaded Elements 10. Can't install it due to insufficient disk space on my C drive. I have enough space on my D drive, but it will not install there, probably because my sustem files are on C drive. The Install wisard does not provide for a selection of the size of Elements 10. Is there a way to select the minimum size? If so, how can I do this?

There is not an option to customize the installation.  The system requirements for Photoshop Elements 10 request that you at least have 4 gigabytes free, plus more for installation, how much free space do you have on your C drive?

  • Installation error of BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0 due lack of disk space

    Hi,
I want to install BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0 on my pc with 6000 MB available.
On the Oracle site I read:
BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0 is installed using the Oracle Business Intelligence 11g Installer. All Business Intelligence components are installed. To configure only BI Publisher, select only Business Intelligence Publisher on the Configure Components screen of the Installation.
During the installation with Oracle Business Intelligence 11g Installer, I got an error message that I don't have enough space available on my pc. I have 6000 MB available and the installation requires 11264 MB.
I assume that the 11264 is required for a full installation of Oracle Business Intelligence 11g and not for the installation of only BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0.
Because of the error message I can however not go to the tab 'Çonfigure components' to define that only BI Publisher needs to be installed.
The Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.2 version required 1000 MB and I cannot imagine that BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0 requires 11 times the space of Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.2.
Does anyone know how I can install BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0 on my pc with 6000 MB available?

  • Ipod nano says cannot update playlists due to lack of available space

Recently after I left my ipod nano charging overnight mysteriously all the songs were removed from it (not on my computer - just the ipod unit). Whenever I try to "Update Administrator iPod" it comes up with the message that it doesn't have enough space. This is despite un-checking all playlists to absolute minimum. Now at the stage that even if no playlists are checked > 95% of disk-space is taken.
A message does pop up at the bottom RHS of my screen that a "file is corrupt and unreadable - iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB" and suggests I run CHKDSK Utility. I don't know much about chkdsk but did go to the "START" button on my computer and in the "RUN" section typed in "CHKDSK c: /f". It did go through a routine (after I did a computer reboot) - but problem is still there.
Have you any advice for me?

  • "Lack of free space message" on ipod

ipod shuffle still says "iPod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the selected items," and thats after deleting songs and folders. What can I do?

If your iPod shuffle is 3rd or 4th gen, are you syncing your entire iTunes music library to the iPod?  If so, the shuffle can no longer hold your complete iTunes music library; you'll need to set it to sync a portion of your library instead.
A convenient way to do this is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, with only the songs you want on the shuffle.  Or you can use existing playlists.  The total storage used by the songs on these playlists cannot exceed the capacity of the shuffle (2GB if your shuffle is 4th gen).
Select the shuffle in iTunes, so that you see its "management" screen.  If you use the new iTunes 12, in the sidebar (along left side of window), under Settings, click on Music.  If your iTunes is an earlier version, click on Music in the horizontal bar (toward the top of the window).  This shows the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs the shuffle.
The checkbox for Sync Music is probably already checked (if shuffle is currently set to sync your entire iTunes music library).  Keep it checked.  Below that, the option to sync Entire music library is probably selected now.  Change that to the other choice, to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, under Playlists, select (checkmark) those playlists with songs you want on the shuffle.  You can also select other items on those lists, as desired.  The "Capacity Bar" at the bottom of the screen shows you the amount of storage (on the shuffle) your current selections will be using.
Click Apply, and your selection syncs to the shuffle.  The current content of the shuffle is replaced (any songs on the shuffle that are not in your computer's iTunes library will be lost).  Going forward, to update songs on the shuffle, add songs to and/or remove songs from those playlists that sync to the shuffle, in your iTunes library.  The shuffle does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes syncs the same changes to the shuffle automatically.
If my assumptions about your situation are wrong, please reply back with more info...
