Ios8 without iCloud Drive impacted iCloud syncing

I installed ios8 on an iPad Without iCloud Drive. It's now not fully syncing with my ios7 iPhone.
For troubleshooting I created test Note, Calendar, Contact and Reminder entries on my iPhone and only the Note entry synched from the iPhone to the iPad.
From my online research I didnt see any reference to where it would be an issue in synching between ios7 and ios8 if iCloud Drive hasnt been installed. I havent installed it but am having synch problems.
Any suggestions?
Much appreciated.
steve

It looks like my problem has been fixed and I've been able to synch bidirectionally between the ipad and the iphone for Notes, Reminders, Contacts and Calendar.
In ios7 and after the upgrade to ios8 but before doing the sign out I just did, when I went into Settings and looked at iCloud under the far left Settings column my Apple Id was displayed immed under Settings.
So I just signed out of the Settings>iCloud Apple Id. When I went to sign back in I 1st had to enter my iCloud Id. I went to iCloud.com Mail to figure out what that was, and signed in with it. There was also a field after that to enter my Apple Id but after it verified my iCloud ID it skipped that and I was done.
Now when I go into into Settings and look at iCloud under the far left Settings column my iCloud Id is displayed immed under Settings.
This set up changed from ios7 to ios8 - it's changed from the Apple Id to the iCloud id.
Thanks so much for your guidance; I couldn't have done this without your assistance.

  • ICloud Drive doesn't sync on my MacBook Pro.

    Hello there.
I've noticed many issues with iCloud Drive since they activated it on Yosemite. I only can manipulate it via Safari (add or delete my files, move it into folders etc), but it doesn't sync in Finder on Yosemite. When I've tried to refresh Drive in preferences or log out and re-login in on the entire iCloud, it didn't helped at all. I feel really sad when I cannot use something that would help me a lot. There are only a few files downloaded - Pages, Scanbot and Preview. There are many others still waiting for download - files, videos, zip files - any types of file. Is there any possibility to force the sync manually?
Thank you all for your help.

    sorry.
It's a WD harddrive. I used to you it for my mac desktop. I have then had a pc laptop for a couple of years. I have had to use macdrive to allow this to work. I thought that when I would plug it into my macbook it should work fine.
It's now showing it is an exfat format. I have read reviews that this should work well on mac and windows?
To find the external harddrive on the mac I need to go to disk utilities and I can see it. It does not allow me to access what is on it though.
i'm trying to think of what I can do so I can use it on the mac book. If I copy it onto a different hardrive, then reformat it. How would I then get it back onto my mac?
Sorry. Hope that helps a little more? Thanks for your time.

  • ICloud Drive Documents Not Syncing from Windows 7 Enterprise

I've installed iCloud for Windows 4.0 on my work computer that's running Windows 7 Enterprise. The iCloud Drive appears in Windows Explorer. Folders and documents I created and saved from home on my iMac and Macbook Pro sync to the iCloud Drive in Windows Explore; however, when I save documents to the iCloud Drive folder in Windows Explorer from work, the files save locally (I'm assuming on the hard drive), but they don't actually sync to iCloud. Am I doing something wrong? Could it be there are some enterprise security settings interfering with the syncing process? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well chalk it up to network latency or simply serendipity, but my documents seem to be syncing properly now. I never post on here and the one time I think I finally have a real issue, the AI on these machines intervenes and makes me look like a fool.

  • How can I migrate my photos from iCloud Drive into iCloud Photos?

So in the midst of a local backup issue I decided to take the plunge and purchase some 200GB of storage from our friends at Cupertino to store cherished family memories in the view that they would never be lost as I can trust Tim and Co. to look after them. (No issues in that dept by the way).
However, after taking said plunge and uploading my entire back catalogue of photos/videos into an iCloud Drive "Photos backup" (original name I know) folder - i realised that iCloud Photos was becoming available - but I saw no option at the time to import such a vast amount.
My question therefore... how can I now migrate these historic moments in time from my iCloud Drive into the iCloud Photos app?
It's still using the same storage plan... just a 'move folder'.. right? well unless I'm being stupid (and I'm not ruling this out) - I can't see a way to do this.
Has anyone else fallen into the same issue?
Help me Apple-Fans, you're my only hope

You access them with the App responsible for the type of file.

  • Installed iCloud Drive and now can't see files on iCloud. Should I fallback from iCloud Drive to iCloud, or upgrade all my devices to Yosemite & iCloud Drive?

After installing Yosemite & "iCloud Drive" on MacBook Air, I cannot see files previously stored on iCloud.
But I can get to files on iCloud using my Macs still with old operating system (OS X 10.8.5).
I copied all files from both iCloud and iCloud Drive to thumb drives until decide what to do.

You cannot revert back to iCloud after enabling iCloud Drive on your MacBook Air.  If you want to be able to access your documents on all your Macs you'll have to upgrade the others to Yosemite and enable iCloud Drive on them too.

  • How to start a sync in iCloud drive / view last sync in windows PC?

I use Foxit PDF to annotate notes and highlight text. I highlight the text in the file which is in drive, so that the file gets changed. In my Windows PC, how do I check the last sync time, or in other words how do I start a sync(in fact it would be automatic, but I want to start it manually?

With iTunes Match your music is simultaneously downloaded to your phone when you play it.  As soon as you play a song not on your playlist, it will be downloaded too.  There isn't a way at the present time to keep only certain songs on the phone, then only stream the rest.  Perhaps the ability to do this will be included in a future update.  If you would like to see this change you can let Apple know here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html.

  • Contacts and calendar syncing independent of iCloud Drive?

I assume contacts and calendar syncing is independent of the use of iCloud Drive?
In other words: on iOS7 and older, you cannot use iCloud Drive  but you can sync contacts and calender with iOS8 devices (and Yosemite). Correct?

    Hey lexvo;
That is correct. For more information on iCloud Drive and iCloud Contacts, check out the following resources:

  • Why have reminders stopped synching on ios8 when iCloud Drive is switched on

i have shared reminder lists on my iPhone that are failing to sync onto my iPad now that both devices have iOS 8 installed. If I disable iCloud Drive then the sync starts working again. Any ideas why?

That is a great comparison of the different views of app specific folders and settings in iCloud.
I agree, it is confusing. Some of the differences are easily explained, but the inconsistency is confusing and irritating.
One reason for differences is probably caused by the transit from the old application centric "iCloud: Documents & Data" to iCloud Drive. Not all applications have yet been updated to the new scheme, for example GarageBand. It still cannot access iCloud Drive, but uses the old "document&Data".  I hope, that will happen soon. But I doubt, that we ever will be able to open GarageBand for Mac projects with GarageBand iOS on mobile devices, at least if want the projects to sound the same on the mobile device. The mobile devices are still too limited to hold the full sound library and to bring the same processing power as the mac.

  • Can I prevent iCloud Drive uploading video. I only want to sync photos etc.

Okay, so I have iCloud Drive. I would like to use this feature for everything I do EXCEPT uploading and syncing videos. I do quite a bit of video stuff on my iPhone 6 Plus but as I always dump the content onto my Mac and it's not something I need to share between devices (I upload finished videos to Vimeo for that) is there away of selecting what iCloud Drive uploads and syncs. This is a very basic feature that I am pretty sure Apple wouldn't have overlooked, but I cant find out how to stop my video content from uploading.
    Cheers in advance.

Enabling iCloud drive does not affect syncing contacts, calendars, reminders, etc. It will affect data used by apps such as Pages, Numbers, 1Password, etc.

  • Will my IOS 7 devices be able to sync calendars and contacts if I move to icloud drive?

I have been reluctant to install the Windows update to iCloud or accept the iCloud Drive option on my iOS 8 devices, because it appears that if I do so my iOS 7 devices will no longer be able to sync contacts and calendars.  Did I understand this correctly?

    Hi Geekseeker,
iCloud Drive does not affect iCloud Calendars or Contacts and will not prevent iOS 7 devices from accessing them. See this article for information on what iCloud Drive does -

  • HT201104 iCloud Drive and Photo Library

If I upload my entire Photo Library to iCloud Drive, then delete photos from my Library (on my computer), can I still access those deleted photos on my iCloud Drive?
Basically, my Photo Library is taking up too much space on my computer so I'm trying to alleviate some of that space without buying an external hard drive immediately.

If I upload my entire Photo Library to iCloud Drive, then delete photos from my Library (on my computer), can I still access those deleted photos on my iCloud Drive?
An iPhoto library will not work properly on iCloud Drive. It will be corrupted by the syncing.  An iPhoto Library needs to be on a locally connected volume or on your system drive.  Move your iPhoto Library to a small portable drive as described here:  Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
A second problem is, that you cannot save space on your computer by uploading to iCloud Drive, because iCloud will keep local shadow copies of all items in your user library. Moving files to include Drive will not save any space at all.  (iCloud Drive FAQ)

  • Can't share iCloud drive with family?

What I saw as the most useful aspect of iCloud drive was to use it like dropbox as a network drive amongst all of our computers and devices. Otherwise, no matter how much syncing is going on, we're are always emailing files back and forth and finding a file is a nightmare. Is it on my laptop or my iMac? Her laptop or iMac?
Isn't that the primary feature of dropbox? Sharing files amongst many computers?
I am beta testing yosemite and tried it out and found there is no sharing, even though family sharing is on.
If you could use a separate account for iCloud drive from the one you use with photos, iTunes, keychain syncing etc, then it could work.
My question is, iCloud drive is REPLACING iCloud, right? So syncing requires our separate Apple IDs, and sharing would require the same ID, so this is an impossible task (to share iCloud drive and still sync our own stuff), right?
I'm thinking I will have to stick with dropbox unfortunately.
    Thoughts?

My thoughts are, that Yosemite hasn't been launched yet and that's why we should wait a little bit until iCloud Drive is officially available for both iOS + OS X. Until then, nothing detains us from using Dropbox parallel.

  • ICloud Drive Upload Error/Space Used?

I attempted to upload a 3 GB .zip file to my iCloud Drive through iCloud.com.  When it got to the end, it gave me an error saying that the upload failed.  Despite that, I've lost 3 GB of my storage space, even though I can't find the file anywhere.  I even deleted the folder that I was attempting to upload the file to, thinking it's some kind of temporary hidden file, but that didn't free up the space.  Is there a way to get Apple to delete the temporary file or whatever it is that is taking up the 3 GB?

An Aperture vault cannot be stored in iCloud drive. If you put it on a synced volume it will be corrupted by syncing.  Write your vault to a locally connected disk like described here for Aperture Libraries:
Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
A vault is essentially an Aperture library, so the same holds.   I tested putting Aperture libraries, vaults, and iPhoto Libraries onto iCloud Drive. After the first sync they needed repairing.
. When I set up a Vault using the iCloud drive it says I have insufficient space. Clearly I don't!
How much free space is on your Mac?  You can only write files to iCloud Drive that will fit on all devices that are connected to iCloud Drive. iCloud Drive is not like an external disk - it is a shared storage for syncing your Macs. Everything you are writing to iCloud Drive will be mirrored to your Macs. See:  iCloud Drive FAQ

  • ICloud Drive Future

As we all know iCloud Drive is not what we expected it to be something very similar to DropBox or OneDrive. I am not looking to debate the current features and functionality in this post. What I am looking for is any solid news, articles, etc.. that DETAIL what iCloud Drive features are going to be or what they plan on doing with it? I ask this because I was all set to replace the aforementioned services with iCloud Drive but it is nowhere near the other services functionality.
Is it going to be, what are the plans, are we getting an update soon?

iCloud Drive works by syncing its content with compatible devices...and it is stated to be for syncing documents.  Photos are still synced through PhotoStream.  Be careful about doing anything to activate Drive at this time...only devices with iOS 8 can access it right now.  A user was on here this morning after activating the Drive and now nothing is accessible to his Mac since Yosemite has not been released...which you will have to have to access iCloud Drive.

  • Can't see icloud drive folder in Windows 7

    Hi all,
    I'm running Windows 7 and icloud 4.0.
I'm familiar with apple products, and have followed all requirements to enable icloud drive on my ipad and iphone.
However I am unable to find the icloud drive icon/folder in Windows explorer on my PC.
When I select the checkbox to enable icloud drive within icloud on my PC then press 'apply', nothing happens. If I close icloud and then re-open it, the checkbox has returned to the unchecked state.
I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling icloud, no difference.
By the way, it all seems to run fine on my Windows 8 devices.
I can't find anyone else with a similar issue...any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Great you have figured it out finally. Just thought you should know that there is a bug in 11gR2 client and because of that Oracle driver version is shown as 11.1.0.7 instead of 11.2.0.2. This can be confusing 6 months or a year later down the road if you wanted to go back and upgrade your client to, let's say' 12g. To fix this, there is a patch available from Oracle metalink, patch id is p11731183 for 32bit and p11731184 for 64bit windows. This bug is mentioned in 1308617.1
