IP address and android devices - blondie needing h...

Hi all, totally new to this and im not very technically minded woman
Basically my 2 sons got asus nexus 7 tablets end of march.set up and both worked fine until 5/6 weeks later when one lost connection for no reason to Internet. Could still obtain signal from out home hub 2 but would just scroll through saying "authenticating" "obtaining IP address" "saved, secured by WPA/WPA2". After about 3 days after trying to forget it, resetting hub etc it suddenly connected again and was fine. It happened again a few weeks later but re-connected after a few hours this time. By middle if June it had happened again so rang bt. They lead me through all the same things and then told me it was a faulty tablet but I knew it wasn't as we had already taken it to the shop and it connected to their Internet straight away. Anyway the apparently changed the wireless settings from their end and miraculously it started working after an hour and a half on the phone. 2 days later same problem again but the other tablet this time ! Then 2 hours later it re-connected again. The first tablet them lost signal about a months later in the middle of July and now a month later we have the same problem with the first tablet so this time I think it must be the table, spent 1 hour in phone to google in America and went through lots of things and ended up resetting it to factory setting again and still wouldln connect. They sent me to asus who went though the same and said as we have switched off the other 3 wi-if devices in the house at the time and it still wouldn't get an IP address then it might be faulty and they would look at it but it no fault found would cost £45. It was switched off for 5 days and then suddenly last night my samsung s4 phone started doing the same, not obtaining and IP address and this is the first time it has happened to a phone.rang bt and spoke to the Indian call centre who went through the standard procedures of forgetting the hub on the device etc but didn't seem to understand that's this fault with a phone is the same as the fault that has been happening with the tablet for the past few months and my phone must be faulty. Well I was not impressed, he said he had done his best for me and nothing more he could do. After complaining I was paying for something I was not getting and was not happy as could see when this tablet goes away for repair there probably isn't a fault and I will be charged. he said he would put me through to technical support. Spoke to a lovely Scottish lady who straight away told me that bt do not support android. She said that possibly the new home hub 4 would be better but we would have to buy it at £35 plus £6.95 postage.
So my questions really are, what does it mean if bt do not support android? And why the heck don't they when they are one of the biggest operating systems, apparently they only support windows and mac
Also will this new hub make a difference?
Sorry for the long post, just thought it made more since to set the whole story out that 1 tablet keeps getting this problem montly, the other tablet only did it once and the mobile phone has now started doing it because the tablet is switched off and weirdly we switch the "faulty" tablet on and as it started the mobile phone sudden'y connected but the tablet woudnt !!!!!
Thanks for any help for a blondie who really doesn't undertsnad technology that much and if you do reply please make it as basic as possible for me to understand

When the BT staff say they don't support Android what they mean is they have no knowledge of of it and don't know any way to make it work, not that it won't work on the BT Homehub. I have Android phone and tablet and they work perfectly on the homehub.
To start from a clean sheet you will need to carry out a factory reset of the home hub by pressing a pin into the reces button on the rear for about 20 seconds. The hub will then restart.
On your devices go into setting then select wifi and find the setting for your homehub. Select it then select forget. Restart the device and scan for wireless networks and select your homehub and log on using the wireless key found on the homehub. You should connect.
Once you have done that if you have a wireless device, such as a laptop download inSSider and check to see which is the best least congested wireless channel. Take note of the number.
Now go into the home hub setting and set the wireless channel on the homehub to that number.

  • MII GUI's on smartphone and Android devices

    Hi,
I would like to make MII GUI's capabale to run on smartphones and Android devices. Could you please help on this?
I am using MII 14.0 version.
Any help on this very much appreciated
    Thanks
    Shaji Chandran

    Hi Saji
Any HTML content will work on smartphones. If you mean Applets as MII GUI then you might have a tougher proposition. However as you are already on MII 14.0 why don't you try out the HTML5 based Grid and Charts. You would need SP04 for that. These charts and grids would work perfectly with smartphones.

  • If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?

I work for a organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad and want to continue this through 2015.
At the moment we can only create apps for the iPad platform.  If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We do not need multi-folio apps as we are not a publishing company.

    Thanks Neil
I sent an email yesterday and am awaiting a reply.  Here is my email for reference.

I work for a large organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad through Indesign and the App builder.  We now want to produce apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We are not a publishing company so we will produce a small number of the apps.  If you could get back to me with a solution and approx price that would be great.
    Thanks for your time

  • Transferring ebooks to smartphones and Android devices

Several people have posted to the Forum about their ability to get ebooks to smartphones and Android devices that aren't supported by Digital Editions.
SONY has at least part of an answer.  They just posted the following information:
"Reader Store now enables you to browse, purchase, and download eBooks from any browser and have them instantly delivered to your wireless Reader device, Android® tablet, Android phone, PC or Mac®."
That means that SONY Reader Store supports these devices (hint to Adobe!!!).
Of course you can sign up for SONY Reader Store, and get your ebooks from them directly.  Then, just follow their directions and you'll be able to transfer the ebooks to these devices, provided that their DRM settings will allow it.  This is just a parallel way of getting ebooks, and the steps are similar to those you use with ADE, just as you would do if you were getting ebooks for your Nook from Barnes and Noble.
If you want to continue to obtain ebooks from other sites, such as gutenberg.org, manybooks.net, etc., then you can sign up for SONY Reader Store, download their Reader library and software, but use ADE to do the transfer from the website where you get the ebooks.  Once the transfer is done, provided DRM will allow it, you can open Reader Store, import the ebook from the ADE library and use Reader Store to do the transfer to your smartphone or other device that they support.  I know it's a bit of work, but you may find it worthwhile - and less frustrating.
SONY Reader Store has HELP features that will help you to go through the steps to do the importing and the downloading.
CAVEAT: I would not try to do this with library ebooks.  The way they're handled in ADE may screw up any attempt you make to use Reader Store for the transfer.  Contact your local library and see if their software supports your smartphone or Android device.
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe Flash Player for mobile (iOS and Android) devices

I have both Apple iOS and Android devices, and can't install Adobe Flash Player on either.  It appears that Adobe no longer provides Flash Player for any mobile devices.  The company I work for uses a a company called Paychex for payroll and time & labor, and that program requires Adobe Flash Player to function.  I am sometimes in areas where I cannot use my computer and must rely on a mobile device to clock in and out, but I can't do that because you have stopped providing the program.  What do I do now?????

iOS has never been compatible with Flash, and per Apple, never will be. It's a lost cause hoping for an iPad Flash Player.
Additionally, Android dropped ALL support for Flash last year. Adobe stopped development of Flash for Android shortly afterward.
See: "Why can't I install Flash Player on my Tablet?" (Kindle or Samsung Galaxy)
The reason both Android and Apple gave for their Flash support decisions is that Flash content is very processor consumptive and it eats battery life in mobile devices.

  • Joikuspot (free) and Android Devices

    Hello,
I want to get a tablet.  Thinking of Android...but  I tried to use my N8 with Joikuspot free at an electronics store with a bunch of tablets. All worked except for Android devices, Ipads and some other no name brands with proprietary OS tablets found it and it worked.  All laptops also found it.  But no Android tablets or phones in the area detected it.
One Android device foun it (Jellybean) but would not connect.
I read that Android does not support Ad Hoc connections which Joikuspot provides.
I tried some Android forums, but they either had a Bluetooth solution (too slow) or they said try the Nokia forums.
Besides Joikuspot - any other Wifi hotspot apps?  Would Joiku Spot full work - anyone have it and try it with and Android device?
    Anyone have suggestions?
    Thanks,

It does seem to be possible to make android work with ad-hoc wifi. Search for "android ad-hoc wifi" - but it does seem to carry quite a highrisk of causing problems. I could try it out on my tablet, but it is unstable enough as it is so I don't want to risk making it even worse.
I wish it was possible to install Symbian onto my android tablet, but failing that I think I will soon be jumping ship to apple - influenced somewhat by the idea of a display that will do the 808 pictures justice.

  • Video format for viewing on both iphone and android devices?

    hi there,
what's the best format to export a video to so that it can be seen on both android and iphone devices? does adobe support this or is there another program that i'd have to buy? any help or insight would be appreciated.

H.264 works for both iOS devices and Android devices. Here's a page with a list of the formats and specs for Android:
    http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
If you choose H.264 as the format in Adobe Media Encoder, you can then choose from a bunch of encoding presets for specific devices, including various iOS devices.

  • HT4059 why can you browse, and buys books from itunes but not read them on my iMac?  Pretty lame I think. my kindle show up across all my computers, iPhones and Android devices no problem.

just wondering why you can browse, buy on itunes but not read on an imac. My kindle apps work on the imac, ipod, asus netbook, iphone and android devices.  Why not ibooks on imac?

"just wondering why you can browse, buy on itunes but not read on an imac. "
Because Apple does not make an ibook reader for computers.

  • Create Dynamic  PDF for iPad and Android Devices

    Hi ,
Is there any specific settings to be done to create PDF using Designer/Acrobat to work in iPad/iPhone and Android Devices. I googled a lot but not able to find anything specific.

Dynamic (XFA) forms are not supported on iOS at all.

  • I have both Apple and Android devices. My Android devices will not stay connected to wireless . I have the Airport Express. The Android devices are a Galaxy S4 and Tab 3. These both worked perfectly on my ancient Linksys WRT 120 N wireless router.

I have called Apple support twice and no one can confrm or deny as to whether Android devices can connect with the Airport Express. I have had the it configured 3 times so far and my Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 are useless with the Airport Express.

BTW what did you mean by using my old wireless router as a AP?
Every Wireless router ever made is actually made of two components..
A router and a wireless AP. (AP = Access Point).
To use any wireless router as a AP you simply bypass or turn off the router..
In an Apple router this is called Bridge mode..
In many routers it is known as AP or WAP mode.
But often they do not have the option..
Set it up manually.. we call this WAN bypass as it will bypass the router.
So what you do is open your wireless router setup page in your browser.. go to the LAN setup page.
You need to do two things.
    1. Turn off the dhcp server.
    2. Set the LAN IP to match the main router..
For instance if your plug it into your apple router and it is at the default IP.. 10.0.1.1 then set the Linksys to 10.0.1.254
The Linksys is then updated.. Plug the ethernet cable from LAN port apple router to LAN port WRT120 (not WAN)
Now with a computer plugged into the apple router or into the Linksys .. by ethernet.. open the IP address you just set.. go to the wireless tab in the setup and give the wireless SSID a suitable name for your other (non-apple) products.. voila.. you have now turned a wireless router into an AP.

  • Using HH2 as WAP with Infinity and Android devices

We have just had Infinity installed.
Before Infinity I had two HH2s set up as waireless access points using the guide prodiced by Keith of this neighbourhood.  They conected back to the HH3 via two TP-Link powerlink units.  It all worked well.  I never got round to resetting the SSID to the same on all 3 hubs which meant as you moved from one side of the house to the other you have to choose a different router.
BT set up Infinity today and it was working fine with my original setup however on the spur of the moment I decided I would change the SSID for all three hubs (two original HH2s and the new HH5).
I started with HH5 and it worked fine.  I then worked my way around the other two HH2s and it seemed to work for a while and then suddenly when I was in the same room as the HH5 my Android tablet could not get the internet.  Logging into the IP address for the HH5 it showed that it was connected.  The blue linelight was on.  The internet radio in the cooking room was connected and working, presumably connected to the nearest HH2.
I reset the wireless settings on the HH5 but still my tablet and my Android phone got the error page saying that there was no internet connection.  After diconnecting a couple of times I eventually got the Android tablet connecting to both the HH5 and to the common SSID now shared by the HH2s.  My phone wont connect at all.
As a test I then connected my work laptop via a cable connection to a TP-Link and it worked fine.  I then connected it via the commn SSID (HH2 only) and the HH3 SSID and agin it works fine.  This thread is created on WiFi to the common SSID.
    Sorry for the long description.
    Two questions:
    1.  When setting the common SSID I used the same passkey for all three routers, was this the best way to do it?
    2.  Why has my Android phone lost connectivity and how do I recover it?
PS 3rd question, why wont this forum accept the word "kit c hen"?
PPS I've just checked on the settings within HH5 and the phone is showing as connected but to the 2.4GHz signal.

There are a couple of different guides on my website, one of them is by Jarviser, so I don`t know which one you are using.
If you make all the SSIDs the same, then Android devices tend to get confused, as they see the same SSID, but with a different BSSID (Wireless MAC address).
This can cause them to fail to get a valid IP address, so you get no connectivity, this is a common issue with BT Wifi hotspots as well, when Android devices are used.
It would be better to use slightly different SSIDS, and then allow the devices to automatically select the one that is in range.
Make sure that the HH2s are on different channels, and make sure that smart wireless, and smart setup is disabled on the HH5.

  • Can't connect 3DS and android devices to HomeHub 3

Ok, devices that won't connect are:
    Nintendo 3DS
    Advent Vega Android Tablet
    Orange San Francisco Android Phone
My 3DS connected when I first bought it. but now I can't connect to the homehub at all, when I scan for wireless networks, where the Homehub should be, it just shows an empty router, doesn't show the SSID or security type.
With the two android devices, they show the SSID ok, but they don't recognise the security type, they show the network as open (when it actually has WPA2 encryption) - thus it doesn't give me anywhere to put in the passphrase
Anyone else had any trouble with these and know of any fixes?

sometimes interference from other wifi devices around your area can cause this...HH3 is normally on auto search for the best channel on wifi, and pressing the wifi button or reseting can resolve the problem, glad you have sorted it

  • Compressor H.264 and Android devices

I'm looking to make videos on our web site as mobile compatible as is practical and have run into a specific issue with compressor. When I tried to play one of our H.264 videos on an Android device I got the picture but no sound. I did some experimenting and found that any video made with the Format of Quicktime (regardless of codec) had the same problem. I have been able to make H.264 videos with other tools such as Handbrake and ffmpeg with similar settings as used in Compressor and those work fine on the Android. Anyone have an idea what my problem is and if there is a work-around? So far my only option seems to be using ffmpeg instead of compressor.

I've had luck with H.264/AAC from Quicktime Player 7 and Adobe Media Encoder. I've never been able to export to Android out of Compressor. The AAC flavours Compressor offers aren't to Android's taste.
Here's the spec sheet on what is/isn't accepted.
    http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
Also, for the record, Google supports and actively contributes to HTML5. The hang up is the video tag in HTML 5 does not specify a codec. Google is dropping support for H.264 video in Chrome when using the video tag because H.264 is proprietary, not open. This is the same reason H.264 video support has never been in Firefox. H.264 will be supported in Chrome through Flash, just as WebM will be supported almost everywhere else via Flash.

    Hi,
I'm happy to announce that there is now an additional solution for mobile printing using the HP NFC/Wireless 1200w Mobile Print Accessory (HP Part Number: E5K46A) that will work on a number of HP Printing devices, please see the link: http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx%2F4AA4-8235ENW.pdf
The only requirement is that you have the latest firmware revision installed on the device, this can also be powered directly from the devices USB port (in your case OfficeJet 150) via the USB cable.
