Ip address problems at work

I have an iPad which was provided my employer. I am a PE teacher and use it primarily to access our web-based registration system in a sports centre.
If i use it at home, it connects straight to the wifi and i can access everything i want to, but at work, its a different story.
Despite keeping the software up to date, there are constant issues when attempting to access the internet. I get a prompt to enter a username and password constantly, and even when i bother to enter it, it rejects it and prompts again.
I am fairly certain that this is to do with the ip address. I have tried using it in DCHP and static mode but i'm not really sure which settings are best.
As we generally run windows based products at work, the network manager is feeling a little stumped as well. It also steadfastly refuses to connect to itunes or the app store as well.
If anyone has any suggestions i would be really grateful - its suppposed to save me time but at the moment its just wasting it and frustrating me as i know its an ideal product when it works.

One thing you can try is to reset the iPad's network. Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings. You will need to reconnect the iPad to WiFi.
To get around the username prompt, see if your network manager will allow your iPad's MAC (Media Access Control) address to be able to connect without entering the data. For your iPad's WiFi MAC address, see Settings-General-About-WiFi Address.

First, when sending your message, the filename should be a simple
filename, not containing any directory names.
It sounds like your mail server might be doing some special
processing of attachments, perhaps to prevent viruses.

IP Address Problem

I have a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver 2002 running OSX 10.3.9, with Verizon DSL service. I suddenly have a very strange problem with my IP Address and some erratic behavior. When the internet connection works, my network settings are:
Location: Verizon DSL
Show: Built-in Ethernet
for TCP/IP
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
IP Address: 71.xxx.xxx.xx (a series of automatically assigned numbers)
Subnet: 255.xxx.xxx.x (a series of automatically assigned numbers)
Router: 71.xxx.xxx.x (a series of automatically assigned numbers)
Recently, without changing any of the settings, I get an IP Address something like 169.xxx.xxx.xx. This IP Address does not work. The tech people at Verizon Online said that the line from my DSL modem to their server was fine, but that the automatically assigned IP Address should be the 71.xxx.xxx.xx number.
There is no pattern to this error. Originally the connection would work in the morning and begin the error IP Address about 4:00 pm. Today when I booted, the connection was out and the 169.xxx showed in the network window. I used the internal Apple modem and a secondary dial-up account and could connect to the internet. After I disconnected the dial-up, the Ethernet connection worked, showing the correct IP Address of the 71.xxx numbers.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here. Thanks.

I seem to have this (or a very similar) problem repeatedly after updates. I use a wireless connection to the internet when at work, which mostly is trouble free. However following the last two itunes/quicktime updates and now also following the latest security update (Security Update 2006-005 (10.3.9)) which deals with the airport protocol, I have had this problem.
Where the airport managed to connect and obtain a valid IP address before, with exactly the same settings the computer uses a 'self-assigned' IP address following the update. As you observe the self assigned IP address does not enable you to connect.
However following the itunes/quicktime updates the problem resolved itself after a few days ( a few hours the second time) and did not reoccur. I have only just encountered the problem following the security update and hope it also resolves itself soon.
Any advice on how to avoid this altogether would be appreciated.

Nexus 1000V. problem when working with the console VMWare

I have a problem when working with the console VMWare.
Sometimes it is impossible to connect any of the hypervisor to the guest OS managed by them.
I get the message: "Unable connect to the MKS: Host address lookup for server <name of the hypervisor> failed: No such host is known."
This message always appears in conjunction with the reconfiguration of virtual switch: "Reconfigure vNetwork Distributed Switch .... Initiated by Cisco_Nexus_1000V_ ....."
Upon completion of the reconfiguration, Communication console, with guest OS is restored, or on its own or after a reboot srv-vc.
In this time, I do not see any message in Nexus 1000v log.
What is this?

Smells of a DNS issue. Are you sure your ESX hosts are reachable from your client via DNS hostname? Try pinging them from a command prompt/terminal. You may have DNS server issues.
As a temp fix, edit your [windowspath]/system32/etc/drivers/hosts file and manually add the ESX host name and IP, then re-test.

Address Book stopped working? PLEASE HELP!

i'm on a mac pro, quad core with leopard 10.5.2.
my address book was working perfectly then... yesterday i opened it up and it stopped working?
since then it has been frustrating that i have not been able to get it working?

I had a similar issue with AB and iCal after a an upgrade and a restore from the backup. Somehow my app from a previous version got restored and looked dodgy.
Had to reinstall the OS and restore the databases only.
I think it is possible to pick the apps only from your OS install DVD.
Apart from that I've seen similar "crazy" things which were related to Java. Try to d'load and install Java...

It doesn't sound like you "changed" your Apple ID, sounds like you created a new one. Bad idea. All content bought with an Apple ID is forever tied to that ID. The ID that bought the content is the only ID that can update the content. Apple does not merge IDs not does Apple transfer content from one ID to another.

I have tried deleting the account and it deletes all my contacts. I have verizon and even using back up assistant, it says the contacts are there but they aren't. The only way i can find a contact is if I start to type a name in and new text but once i sent the new text, the name disappears and it just shows the number. Siri nor the address book don't recognize any contacts at all.

I cant find any reciept in my email or in my husbands email. I am going to attempt to call and speak to someone who can help me because this was not my fault except trying to be normal and update my phone!

I have been to the local Genius bar and through trial and error we have determined that Mail is working ok but somehow the account is causing the problem. I have used this account for years. Any ideas what is causing this?

No idea why, but one thing you may try if you have the time, is create a new user, and set up the problem mail account in the new user space. See if it causes your MBP to hang as well. That will tell you if it is something wrong with your main User, or something wrong with MBP.
Assuming this works, I'd nuke the problem account in your main user space, re-start, and reinititate the account and see if that helps.
Depening on how many email accounts you have setup, it may be necessary to nuke the whole Mail folder in your User/Library.... Hard way to get it to work, but just my idea.

Problem in working with Japanese data

We have an application, which should work for both English and Japanese languages. Our application is working fine for English data but in case of Japanese, we are facing problems. In the application, there is a language setting, where the user can select either English or Japanese. This changes the language of the labels to English or Japanese. We are handling this thru' ResourceBundles. But the data that is entered can be independent of this. In English setting also, the data entered or diplayed could be Japanese. Now we are facing problems at vaious places -
1. When we enter Japanese data and save it, it gets copied into the bean and if there is any error in the saving, the same data from bean comes back on the screen. This data doesn't appear properly in Japanese.
2. When we try to retrieve the already saved data from database, it doesn't show poperly in Japanese.
We are using our own 'toUnicode' function, which converts the data to Unicode before saving the data to database. Similarly, we have tried different encodings like SJIS / Shift_JIS / ISO-2022-JP at various places i.e. in 'Page' directive or in HTML Meta tag or various combinations of these two. Nothing is working reliably. Sometimes for some combination, data retained in the first case is correct but it can't be saved. Sometimes it works with Unicode, sometimes without Unicode. Some combination affects the Japanese labels as well. Otherwise the labels at least are displayed properly.
The same code with just Shift_JIS setting in 'page' directive, worked well in IIS Server for both English and Japanese.
What could be the problem in WebLogic? Does it matter if WL is installed on English or Japanese machine?
Kindly answer ASAP, since the project is getting delayed.

When I import as video :
it creates as many layers as there are frames in the video

Video is like Image formats, but on steroids. Also, many formats, such as AVI can have 100's of different CODEC's inside them. It is almost like having a JPEG, that contains a TGA, or a TIFF, or a PCX, or any number of what we see as other formats. It can be daunting, but let's start at the beginning.

As you see from that first link, the format is just a "wrapper," and can contain all sorts of "stuff." That FAQ Entry will tell you how to "peek inside" the wrapper. That is what we need, as Mylenium asks. If you can let us know all about the faulting files, maybe someone can help you.
Also, PS has somewhat limited Video support, both on Decode and Encode, so, and depending on what you have, you might have to convert that/those file(s).

Custom email address doesn't work in Maverick

Configured Apple Mail on a new iMac running Maverick 10.9.1 but my email is custom for business purposes rather than gmail, yahoo, etc. I'm not able to send or receive on this custom address though others work fine. Get an error that it can't connect to the internet despite identical settings to my MacBook Pro which works. Nothing turned up on the web domain side. Help!

Indeed, the email account tends to become active on the day the BB starts to work. However it may not be until late in the day. If the email address can't be accessed on the go live day, check the day after - and if it still fails, you can contact a moderator who should be able to unlock the email account.
You don't have to use the email account, but it may get sent service emails from BT.

I got 3 .java files from one Java tutorial as follow:

Utilities.java (in package mygame.shared)
Client.java (in package mygame.client)
All the above files are placed in "E:\Java Programmes\source"

Problem to work on ThinkPad T430 with Autodesk Revit 2013 models on external monitor

Did anybody from the community experience problem to work with Revit 2013 on external monitor, which hooked up to Lenovo T430 laptop with hybrid (Intel/Nvidia) video card? When I double click on any a model element on external screen this element jumps to unpredictable direction and I am getting an error message “can't keep elements joined”. It happened only on external monitor, when I am using the laptop screen nothing happened.
Is there any way to fix this issue? Thanks

have you spoke to Autodesk about this issue?
Try to update the Nvidia video driver to the latest version, and see whether that helps.
