IP Configuration Error - IP address in use by another device

My parents' have set up a wirless netwrok in their home but are experiencing a IP configuration error.
They have Cable Broadband going into a cable modem. The modem is connected to a DLINK router via ethernet. The router has an ethernet connection to one computer (PC running Windows 2000) and an ethernet connection to a NETGEAR Wall-Plugged Ethernet Bridge XE102 which provides a wireless connection for an iMac G5 in another room.
The PC and the iMac are able to connect to the Internet without any problems. However, my PowerBook can see the NETGEAR network but it can access the Internet through it. The following error message keeps popping up:
IP Configuration Error
192.168.0.100 in use by 00:13:46:6d:26:11, DHCP SErver 192.168.0.1.
I read some previous posts that indicated it may be a problem with an IP address being assigned to a printer (and they do have an HP PSC connected by USB to the PC).
I can't seem to figure out how to free up the IP address. I checked the router settings and it is configured to assign more than just two or three.
Any ideas? Thanks in advanced.

Have you tried resetting your router and reseting your cable modem this should Asign all new IP address to all of the Computers on the network.
To reset your modem unplug it and leave it out for about 3 min and then replug it and the router should either have a reset button on it or from your computer you should be able to reset it.
I think your going to need to change your IP address but try resetting everything first.

  • What exactly does "your IP address is being used by another device"

everything is in the question, I recently had to deal with hacking attempts by e-mail, that's why I pay attention
    thank you

Most likely, you're getting a network address from your router. The address assignment ("lease") expires, and has to be renewed, after a certain amount of time, which might be one hour or one day. The lease expired without being renewed because the device was offline at the time. Meanwhile, the address was leased to another device on the network. When the first device comes back online, it still has the address that's now also leased to the second device. Depending on what kind of router you have, the conflict may resolve itself automatically. If not, then from the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the TCP/IP tab. Now look at the menu labeled Configure IPv4. If the selection in that menu is Using DHCP, click the button labeled Renew DHCP Lease. Test.
Less likely, you have a network address that you assigned yourself, and another device is assigning itself the same address. In that case, the selection in the Configure IPv4 menu will be either Manually or Using DHCP with manual address. This kind of conflict won't be resolved automatically. You have the following options to resolve it:
Change the menu selection to Using DHCP.
Change the manually-assigned address to one that isn't being used by another device.
Change the address of the other device.
Which of these options you should choose depends on the details of why you're using a static IP address. Any change you make to the network settings must be applied before it takes effect. To do that, click OK and then Apply.

  • I'm unable to add the email address for iMessage, that I was using before iOS 7 to my iPhone, because it says that it is "in use by another device," but I have no other devices.  How do I resolve this so I can add this email address to my iPhone?

Sync your iPhone to iTunes, and see if that does the trick.  Also you could try a Soft Reset with no Risk to Data.  Holding down both the Sleep button and the Home button until the Apple logo appears and then waiting for the Reset to bring you iPhone back to the lock screen.    Are you trying to add the email at Settings>Messages>Send and Receive from (2 Addresses) your iPhone number and your email address?

  • Ip being used by another device? What does that mean?

An error message popped up saying another device has been using my ip address. What exactly does this mean, and how can I fix this? Please help.

Do you have another computer, iPhone/Pad/Pod? This is usually no problem.
Usually if you enable your router for Automatic (DHCP) IP address distribution, your device's IP address on your local area network will change without you knowing.

  • Your iCloud account is being used with another device (200+ iPads)

    Hello!
I work at a school and currently manage 200+ iPads, we use 1 iCloud account to keep a track of them, I have all backup services switched off and they purely use it for the 'find my iPad/phone' section on iCloud.
However, since iOS 8, a lot of these iPads display the message 'Your device is currently also being used on device studentiPad001' then when a student presses ok, it will pop up again with another iPad name it is being used on, it won't list all iPads that it is currently on but it will repeat this for at least 3-5 minutes.
I thought this would only happen the once after the update but it just picks random times to do it and random iPads, I will soon have to remove the iCloud account from the iPads as it is becoming a massive inconvenience.
Are there any other ways I can physically track the iPads or get rid of this notification?
    Thanks!

  • Emails won't load says account is being used on another device

when trying to access my emails it comes up with an error message saying account is being used on another device? Only started 24hrs ago?

If you believe that has happened, change your password. There's no way to verify that such has happened.

  • When I try to access one email acct.I get message that my  acct. Is in use on another device. Only other device is computer at home and no one is home or using it. What do I do?

When I try to access my email acct. Message says that it in use on another device, only other unit is computer at home and no one is home? What's up?

Thanks but that doesn't give me the information I need.  I am putting an email on my ipod for people to contact me for iMessage and FaceTime but when I put the email in, it gives me an error saying that the email cannot be veirified because it is already in use.  My Apple ID can be varified, just not the email that they will contact me with.

  • Cannot get mail. Account in use on another device

AAll at once I receive the error message " cannot get mail. Account in use on another device" do you know how this can be as I have turned off all other devices that could have the account open.

    Jack-
Just to be sure, change the password to your E-Mail account.  After a few days you can change it back if the problem doesn't go away.

  • HT1430 receiving message "cannot get mail. account ... is in use on another device"

Phone does not receive email. Instead I receive message "cannot get mail. Account ... is in use on another device." No problem receiving mail on all other devices.

It is not a problem that is solvable by anyone. It is the way POP works. Set the polling time on your computer to 10 minutes or more and it will happen much less frequently. But it will still happen. Any time your phone tries to retrieve mail while your computer is actively retrieving mail you will get that message.
If your ISP does not offer IMAP service there isn't much you can do. Most don't BTW. I run a mail server that supports IMAP, and so does Yahoo, Microsoft, Google and Apple. But a lot of ISPs don't because either they want you to use webmail so they can track your usage or they don't like the fact that IMAP keeps the master copy of all mail on the server, so you will use much more storage than with POP.
One option is to get a gmail account and set it to retrieve your ISP mail. The read your mail with gmail. Google even lets you reply using your ISP's email address as the return address.

  • Mail problem: "The account ___ is in use on another device."

Sometimes when I launch Mail it says "The account _ is in use on another device" with the blank being my email address. This is not consistent but it seems to happen (or I notice it more) when I have not launch the app in a little while. The only other "device" that could be putting my account "in use," I suppose, is my iMac when it fetches mail periodically but I can't believe that this is the cause because I never experienced this with my iPhone 3G (3.1.3). Any ideas what is causing this?

I have the exact same problem, only my iphone 3Gs did it prior to the upgrade also. the strange thing is that it does seem to still get messages so they appear, only more slowly than what they appear on the mac book.
if anyone has an answer would be great!!
    cheers

  • Email account is in use on another device

My iPad 2 frequently gives me a popup indicating that it cannot get mail because the account is in use on another device.  The email account is a pop account through yahoo/at&t.  The account is set up on multiple devices, but I am unable to determine why that matters or how to solve the problem.  I need the account to be set up on multiple devices, and this was never an issue until the latest iOS 4 version, which continues with iOS 5.

I've been having the same problem for quite some time, before updating to os5.  I have an iPhone and iPad2 but I only have an email account set up on my iPad2 and I still get that message. I have never set up email on my iPhone and have double checked to make sure I didnt and had possible forgotten.  If someone else were using my email I would have noticed because I check my email several times a day.
