IP ingest?

Are they any supported card for FMLE which support the ingest
of MPEG2/H.264 over MPEG2-TS over IP as ingest to FMLE?

Currently FMLE supports cards that gives video in RAW format.

  • FCP 5.0.1 ingest of 24f footage from Canon Xh-A1

Hi: I am working with a Power Mac G5 running FCP 5.0.1 and Tiger 10.4.1
I have been given a mini dv tape by a client and they don't know any of the specifications about how the footage was shot. All they know is that is was shot using a Canon Xh-A1 in HDV. I am trying to import this footage into FCP 5.0.1 using my Sony Z1 and I'm having some problems.
    1. Will the Sony Z1 play back a tape that was shot with this canon camera? When I try to play back the tape using my Z1 I get no image, and the client swears the tape is not blank because he has seen it. I am thinking the shooter was shooting in 24f mode and my Z1 will not play that.
    2. Is there any way I can even edit 24f footage in FCP 5.0.1? And if so, what should the preset be?
    3. For the ingest of the footage I guess I could rent a Xh-A1, but was wondering if a HV20 could do the job?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nope...If it was shot 24f then only a Canon camera with that option will play it back. It is a format SPECIFIC to Canon. Sony won't play it back. Sony will play back Canon tapes, if you shoot 1080i60...that format they share. But their 24f/24p formats...non-interchangable. You'll have to borrow the clients camera to capture.

  • Moved my library to an external hard drive. Now I get this message when trying to import video: Cannot start ingest because there is no storage location set. Please set one under Storage in Preferences and try again.

I recently moved my iMovie Library and all of its contents to an external hard drive.  I then erased the library and all of its contents from my iMac HD and created a new library.  Now when I try to import video from my DV camera I get this message: Cannot start ingest because there is no storage location set. Please set one under Storage in Preferences and try again.  There is no way to set a storage location in Preferences.  I have chosen an Event in the middle drop down box.  But it still will not import.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My iTunes library is set up the way I said in the top post and works totally fine.
Yes, and that is the default structure to which I was referring.  iTunes will organize it that way automatically unless people do start changing settings (in which case they should know what they are doing and how iTunes works with library files and media structure.)
Both ways work, the advantages of mine would be that should iTunes try looking fo a library, it will always be in the default location.
It makes people think they have to change media location in preferences.  They do not unless they want to relocate media only and leave other things on their internal drive (in which case there is no point in copying library files to the external, and you certainly wouldn't want to then delete them from your internal).
Downside is that then should someone move their iTunes library to anther computer they need to remember to get those library files on the external hard drive.
Just copy the whole iTunes folder and it will get the library files to the other drive in one step, along with all the other files.
Your post has good stuff but it makes a move appear intimidating and look like people have to do a lot of organizing to move the collection.  It also throws in  extra steps (namely altering preference settings) that could cause confusion or even make a mess of things.  If people leave iTunes to default preference settings (which most people do) the move summarizes into a short line:  Copy a folder and hold an extra button the next time you start iTunes.
Note that the instructions in the link I provided earlier do also include many steps, but those are to ensure that everybody does have it all organized correctly before simply copying the iTunes folder.  In the end it is just a simple action.

  • Parameters for Ingesting wide fixed-length files?

I created an SSIS process to ingest fixed-length text files into this table.
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Temp_Source_Fixed](
     [Column 0] [text] NULL,
     [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
     CONSTRAINT [Temp_Source_Fixed_ID] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
     [ID] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX  = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE  = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS  = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS  = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
    ) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]
It works fine with most of the files, but one file has almost 26000 characters per row and the process halts with a truncation error.
I suspect that if I change a parameter on the connection manager it will work, since I can manually use
the SSMS wizard to import manually if I specify Text Stream (DT_Text) for the data type of Column 0 versus String (DT_STR).
For the connection manager I have
In the connection string I have Provider=SQLNCLI10.1 and Auto Translate=False.
        In Misc parameters, DelayValidation=False.
For the Data Flow Task I have
     DefaultBufferSize is 10485760
Any ideas on what I need to change?
    Thanks,
    Jnana
    Jnana Sivananda

You need the column in question defined in SSIS as DT_Text.
You need to either drop the flat file connector and re-do it with this datatype, or access the Advanced Editor input and output column and alter its datatype there

  • How do I ingest files from an external drive?

New to Prelude- I'm not able to locate, within the ingest dialog, the USB3 drive on which the files are located. I copied them from the DSLR (D600, mov wrapper.) I see my HD, just not the external. Am I missing something really obvious? Thanks.
    MBP 10.9.2

    Hi -
We haven't similiar extertal device in hand currently. So we tried to reproduce the issue with an external device ORICO 8628SUSC-PRO dual bay hard drive dock. It has eSATA (3GB/s) and USB (2.0) Ports. And connected it to a Mac Tower with 10.9.2 OS.
After tried several times with different capacity 500GB, 2.0TB, 4.0TB, etc, the hard drives could all be recognized by Prelude CC without any issue through eSATA and USB connection.
We also tried to connect a Synology 4 bay disk station, but failed. Because it only could be attached with kinds of external hard disks.
How did you connect your OWC device, by eSATA cable or USB? I noticed that your HDD has much higher interface than ours (your device interface: eSATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0; our device interface: eSATA 3GB/s and USB 2.0). I’m not sure whether the issue is caused by this. We are still working on this issue. Will keep you update.

  • Prelude 2.2.0 crashes on Ingest, OSX 10.9.1

I just updated my 2008 15" Macbook Pro (5,1) to Mavericks (10.9.1) and updated all my CC apps to the latest versions. I tried using Prelude CC 2.2 tonight and it crashed every time I tried to Ingest media, either double-clicking in the window or clicking the 'Ingest' button produced a crash. The program launches but I cannot Ingest.

    Hi -
Are you having the same issue with the topic http://forums.adobe.com/message/5983607#5983607 ?
If so, can you try the workaround and let us know if it can work for you?
    Thanks,

  • HVX200 Ingest workflow?

Anyone have a good workflow with ingesting hvx200 footage? Once I import all my media from a certain card or drive I then wrap them all then delete them from the final cut bins. I then find them via "bridge" from adobe's cs2 and rename all my clips from there. From there I import them back into final cut and save. Wondering if I can stay inside FCP for all of this.
I do all these steps because when you import or "wrap" your p2 clips they all come into the bin with weird generic file names and there are no options I am aware of to change it. Any help would be cool. Thanks!

Uh...if you don't like the file names, after you import them you can then delete the CLIPS (this will not delete the media...unless you select MAKE OFFLINE) from the FCP browser. Then you can go to your Capture scratch folder for that project and rename them...opening them in quicktime to view them.
BUT...this is dangerous and I highly recommend that you avoid renaming the clips. Why? Well, what if you lose them? What if the drive they are stored on dies? (This has been known to happen). When you go to re-import the clips from the .MXF files in the CONTENTS folder (which you should keep...this is for all practical purposes your source tape) then you will be stuck because the re-imports will have those numbers again, and won't match up with the clips you re-named.
No. Just add a description to the file name in the Browser. So 0004T6 becomes 0005T6 - Man walks across street. And so on. Or you can just add your notes to the DESCRIPTION section of the browser and sorth your clips by that name.
Why did you need to use CS2 to rename the clips?

  • Why does Prelude keep pausing during playback on ingest from a P2 Card?

When I am trying to mark my ins and outs on ingest.  The video will not continue playing.  It pauses a second or two after playing.  How can this be fixed?

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

  • Having trouble ingesting media- Prelude gives error message

In Adobe Prelude, everytime I click on "Ingest Media" or go to File---Ingest Media, I get an error message that says that Adobe Prelude has encountered a serious error and needs to shut down.

The trouble I am having is when I am on the computer, logged in to MyVerizon.  I use my hotspot to connect to the internet via my computer.  My phone is an LG Enact.  I have had other problems with the cloud.  it is extremely frustrating, as my business depends on these photos.  I must be able to download them onto my computer.

  • Batch Capture - Ingesting Footage of a Public Hearing

I have a unique video verité project and I'm trying a unique approach to the Log and Capture process for it, and I'm asking for a little advice...
On Thursday, I was recruited to record a nearly-five-hours-long public meeting at which over 150 people spoke. (1,200 in attendance) Fortunately, the meeting had a pro-grade P.A. system, and the hosts offered a box to plug in for audio pick ups on the P.A., so I used my wireless mic system to feed the speakers' voices directly into my new Canon Vixia HV 40 camcorder; I recorded the whole thing in HDV onto 5 tapes. The audio was clear as a bell. This project has a vaguely C-SPAN feel to it.
Now comes the challenge. This was a non-stop, live-on-tape meeting. The only time I stopped was the switch to newer cassettes. The organization I am helping asked me to find a way to ingest this footage as quickly as possible, figure out how to get it onto regular DVD media, and ship it out to a couple of volunteer organizations so that people can digest the proceedings and get organized for future plans. There is no time for frills or FX or anything but a plain brown wrapper on these DVDs.
I switched my HV 40 over to output down-converted DV streams. I started up Final Cut Pro 7 (I previously used FCP 4.5 on other projects) and got the log-and-capture process going. One thing I noticed during the Log and Capture process on the first tape:
I decided to Log the video using the Batch Capture process. All five 60 minute tapes have been thoroughly logged now. I wanted to use Batch Capture so that it would be easier to isolate individual speakers by clip if necessary; I logged consecutive back-to-back clips of four speakers apiece on each of the tapes, each tape is logged to a different logging bin for better organization. (The logged clips are each typically 8 minutes duration.) I intend to make sequences in Final Cut, each sequence will be a different DVD disc (Disc 1 of 3, for example) and I will insert the clips consecutively into the Timeline to form a complete show.
During the Logging process, I noticed something odd: doing everything on the fly, one clip will end on a specific frame and the next logged clip will begin on the very same frame as the previous clip ended. Shouldn't consecutively logged-on-the-fly clips with an end point followed by the beginning of the next clip on the next frame afterwards? Should I adjust the clip frame-times in the Browser by offsetting them by one frame to make them flow properly?
    Thanks in advance,
    --WA
[NOTE: 5 tapes used, 5 logging bins logged, meeting was just over 4.5 hours in length.]

Since saving time is essential in this case, I would have logged each tape as one clip, captured that tape and move on to the next. Drop two full clips in one Sequence for DVD 1, play out the Timeline to a stand-alone DVD recorder in real time, and move on to the next one.
Once they had their 'no frills' DVDs, you could then go back and make subclips of each speaker if needed.

  • Source file- ok to move clips in finder before ingested?

I haven't installed the new final cut Pro X yet -- however, I'm shooting and wondered if I can downloads clips for different projects, inadvertently shot on the same SD card,   to my computer ( ie. like a virgin  backup), and, from there, move some clips around finder to a different folders (i.e. different project folders -- assuming nothing is as yet "ingested" or imported as an "event"). Larry Jordan, Apple's guru, warns of importing partial cards -- but I think this means when you are actually ingesting directly into final cut's  Events folders. This would simply be a "virgin" backup onto disk.
Beyond that, I wonder what happens if you decide to link-- and not copy files-- to the Final Cut X event folders. I'm guessing you have to be careful not to move anything around in the finder -- and how do you know what you ingested and what you didn't. But that's for a later date...!!
    Thanks, Mary Love

Depends on the camera. If it records AVCHD, then you have to copy the AVCHD folder in toto to a drive, or FCPX won't see the clips.
If the camera records files in some other flavor of H.264 (like some Canon DSLR .mov files for instance) you can probably move and store the files themselves anywhere you want.

  • I can't believe prelude doesn't have "organize by date" in the Ingest window.

I mean, like what, 99.9% of all apps, even cheap 'unprofessional' ones, have this. It's just standard coding procedure; and why?? ..because it SAVES TIME when you have many files to wade through!  At v3.2 this common and 'foundational' feature should have been in like alpha v001 for cryin out loud. Rant over.....for now.

    Hi,
Luckily enough Prelude's Ingest Dialog has such a feature.
    1. In the Ingest Dialog Switch to List View
    2. Click on the fly out menu on the top right of the screen to bring up the "Edit Columns" dialog
    3. Choose which "date" field type you'd like to display as a column in the list view. There are several to choose from.
    4. Click OK to dismiss the Edit Columns dialog
    5. Back in List View simply click on the date column to sort.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Log and Transfer. Red Exclamation Mark part way through ingesting

Hello. I have tried to search through the various previous issues raised re the red exclamation marks but couldn't find a solution to my exact scenario.
All seems to be fine ie connect camera (Panasonic SDT750 - recording at HG level, not 1080/50p option) and L&T sees the clips and I can start ingesting. But after a while it stops and I get the dreaded red mark. Could it be to do with the size of the clip, which is around 1hr 30mins? I say that as I tried adding in and out points to just capture a 30 second portion and it all worked fine ie got the half blue disc show up. On System Settings I have this pointed to an external drive with 1.4TB of space, and I have about 45GB free on my Mac Hard Drive.
I need the space on the SD card today for something so have deleted it, first copying all the contents over onto a folder on the Ex Drive and deleted the card, so hopefully can revisit later.
Am I missing something really obvious here, or do I need to think about only ingesting, say, half hour periods at a time? Many thanks.

Thank you everyone for your comments/suggestions. I have been looking into each and experimenting before posting back. Re each in turn:
Tom - CMD-I info says the format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Al - Limit capture boxes are not ticked. I trashed com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist, repaired permissions and re-booted.
skalicki - I had seen that post and thought that had cracked it as I had previously only been able to ingest a couple of minutes of footage, but on changing to plain stereo it seemed to be going ok, but then stopped after about 15 minutes instead. I did have about 45GB free on my hard drive, but I have now done some housekeeping and have about 96GB.
Randy - resetting the in point seemed to have some effect bizarrely, whether it was just this or in combination with trashing prefs i'm not sure, but now I am able to ingest about 30 minutes of footage (I tried an hour but this failed).
So currently I am proceeding with the project by ingesting footage in 30 minute portions at a time, which is working for now. But this doesn't seem right as a solution. What about:
Is there maybe somewhere else there could be a setting limiting capture.
Might using a card reader instead of the camera possibly help.
The disk to which Easy Setup is being told to save the footage is also used for Time Machine. Should I maybe turn Time Machine off in case it is trying to do 2 things at the same time and doesn't like it?
    Thanks again...

  • Ingested videos not playing in stereo with Quicktime or after exporting with compressor

Why does it seem like every time I try to do something just mildly complex I'm stymied by some bug or problem with the software?
    Here's the deal:
    0) I have footage was shot with a stereo camcorder, a JVC GR-DV3000 (circa 2003), with built-in stereo mics.
    1) I ingest the footage from the Mini DV tape and save it to a camera archive using Final Cut Pro X (latest version).
    2) I use Final Cut Pro to pull the events out of archive.
    3) When the events are played from within Final Cut Pro X, I hear strereo and audio meters indicate the audio is in stereo (left and right channels have different volume levels).
    4) When the events are played with the open source software, VLC, I hear stereo, too.
    5) When I export the files for playing on an Apple device using Final Cut Pro, the audio is in stereo as you would expect.
    BUT:
    5) When I play the event clips with QuickTime from my hard drive after step 2 above, I get no audio from the right channel. Weird, right?
    But most annoying of all:
    6) When I use Compressor 4 (instead of Final Cut) to output the event clips to "SD for Apple Devices" using the default audio settings, I get no audio from the right channel, either.
    7) I've got hundreds, if not thousands, of clips. I'm not about to save each clip manually with FCPX. I need to batch convert these files with Compressor.
    8) I've tried various combinations of the audio import settings ("Analyze and fix audio problems," "Separate mono and group stereo audio," and "Remove silent channels." These options have not solved the issue for me. The clips still play in mono in QuickTime.
When I look at the properties of the file in QuickTime, here's what it shows:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Left
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Why it's telling me the other 3 channels are unused, I have no idea. As I mentioned, the footage was shot in stereo and even Final Cut plays it in stereo.
Here's what VLC says about the very same file:
    Stream 0:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: Mono
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bits per sample: 16
    Stream 1:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: 1
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bitrate: 512 kb/s
    Stream 2:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: 1
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bitrate: 512 kb/s
    Stream 3:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: 1
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bitrate: 512 kb/s
    Stream 4:
    Type: Video
    Codec: (DV Video (dvc)
    Resolution: 720 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.970030
    Decoded Format: Planar 4:1:1 YUV
If anyone can point in the right direction, I'd much appreciate it.

I ended up just using iMovie to capture video from the camera. The clips now play in stereo in QuickTime perfectly.
It's interesting to note that iMovie saves the clips as .dv file types, not .mov file types like FCPX does.
And it turns out the iMovie capture is *much* smoother. It actually "just works." Ingesting tapes with FCPX, I had to cross my fingers, spin on my head and pray three times to a statue of Steve Jobs before it would work (and even then it would do weird stuff).
The only downside of using iMovie is that it doesn't have the camera archive feature.
I really don't understand why, with $120 billion in the bank, Apple seems to be churning out software as an afterthought. No, software is not where they make their money, but they are ruining their reputation. Ah, well, first world problems.

  • Cannot Ingest RED Footage in Prelude

I'm trying to ingest RED Epic footage in a variety of formats, but Prelude is unable to pull any of it in. The error message reported in the Events panel is "Import task - import file: "{path\filename}.R3D" failed. Reason: Import XMP failed!"
    I'm running Win7 x64. Prelude is version CS6 1.0.1
The updated ImporterRED.prm is located in D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Prelude CS6\Plug-ins\Common\
The updated ImporterREDServer.exe is located in D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Prelude CS6\
I can pull the footage into Premiere Pro with no issue. Does anyone have a fix?
    Thanks,

it says in the manual that prelude cannot import red without transcoding...
since it cannot write to reds metadata it is a waste of time anyways

  • Ingested footage from p2 and cannon DSLRs not previewing in Lion

    Hi folks,
I just recently made the upgrade to OSX 10.7.2 so far FC Studio has been handling it just fine.  I have however noticed one thing and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
While I obviously do most of my work and sorting through footage within FCP, I have enjoyed the ability to preview clips from my finder window in Leopard and Snow Leopard... I use it most often when I need to scan through raw footage to find a specific take that I want to reference in conversation with an editing partner, or when I'm double checking that I've got the correct raw footage for the correct project in the correct Capture Scratch folder.
It would seem that since I installed Lion footage that was ingested from a p2 card, or from a Cannon DSLR will no longer play from the finder window.  I can open that same clip in Quicktime Player and there's no problem, or I can of course veiwe it in FCP... but if I want to take a quick look in the finder there's no dice.
Other video files that have gone through a pass in Compressor, or even the raw, non-ingested footage from those same sources will preview from teh finder just fine.
Has anyone else noticed this?  And if so, is there a fix for it?
    Thanks so much,
    avi
    (FYI, I'm on a 27 inch iMac 2.8 i7, 4 gigs ram, running FCP 7.0.3)

You can drag a file or folder into to Finder's tool bar for quick access -for instance, something that is located several layers deep in the file system but often used. It works in the same way as an Alias.
    Here's one I just made:
If you delete the original, the ? appears because the link to it is broken:
You can drag the ? out by holding the command key.
The Dock will behave in the same way if you choose the "Keep in Dock" option, then delete the original.
To your QuickLook issue, I'm officially baffled. It might be a good idea to post on the OS X specific discussions forums here with a link to this thread. Reinstalling is something that really should be the very last resort.
ETA; I just posted for more assistance in the special Lounge area of the forums.
