Ip phone bandwidth

hi
whats the acceptable bandwidth for an ip phone conversation ?

Hi Bill,
The bandwidth requirements vary depending on what Codec is being used. Here is some related info. The first doc has a good link to the TAC Voice Bandwidth Calculator which is very helpful;
Voice Over IP - Per Call Bandwidth Consumption
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk652/tk698/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094ae2.shtml
Q. What are the voice bandwidth requirements for different codecs?
A. Voice bandwidth requirements are:
G.711 - 106 Kbps (50 pps, 200 byte long packets)
G.729 - 44 Kbps (34 pps, 60 byte long packets) (default)
G.723 - 30 Kbps (34 pps, 64 byte long packets)

Hope this helps!

  • WRT300N Gaming Problem

    Hi, I just bought WRT300N (1.03.3) and WMP300N (4.100.15.5) yesterday and was satisfied with the speed of surfing and downloading online. But the speed of playing games online is what I concern the most which didn't come out what I expected. I'm playing Call of Duty 2 at the lowest spec. It was more lagging than my previous Linksys Wireless-B combos. I'm experiencing stop and go (suddenly stop a second then back to the game) all the time during game-play. Is it my computer's problem or others? I have recognized the Game and Application in the Web-based Utility. Should I change the port range? And I got disconnected for a minute when a phone call comes in. Can you guys help please?

    About the phone thing... hmmmm.. is your phone bandwidth 2.4 ghz? recommend to get a 5 ghz phone instead.. might fix that concern.. as for the bandwith... try setting your MTU to manual and value is at 1450.

  • IPod touch inner hardware revealed, not much fun iPod as apple claims

    As probably some of you know that apple ipod touch became available today on apple stores. I probably a lot of people are beginning to play with the new device that probably got delivered to your homes today on a fedex truck. As it is accustomed the people from ifixit take electronic devices apart and they revealed the insides of the hardware. Now this part which I'm about to say might come as a shocker to all, since I expected that apple from making the same improvements they did to the iPhone 4. I guess I was wrong, iFixit Teardown of iPod touch 4G has revealed that it only has 256MB of RAM like iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G, unlike the iPhone 4 which features 512MB of RAM. Teardown also reveals that the battery of the new iPod touch also pales in comparison to iPhone 4. iPod touch features 3.44 W/Hour battery while the iPhone 4 has 5.25 W/Hour. I don't why apple says battery improvement on their keynote while they put a lower w/hour battery, I guess Steve jobs is a liar.
    The iPod touch 4G is not worthy of an upgrade....the only thing is a shinier display and microphone are the only thing worthy of upgrading. Steve Jobs shame on you, what a disappointment of a product.

    I know Jobs said it's like the iphone but without the phone, but I couldn't really believe they would produce something that would compete that closely with their own product.
    No doubt it's an improvement in many ways over the 3g. Primarily with the ability to take HD and connect visually with friends and social networks such as facebook. I have heard that about half of smart phone bandwidth is used with social networking so I can see where that's a big deal for some.
    Thanks for the info.

  • Why when I watch videos with my ipad mini it is blur?

    Pls help, I did compare it with a another's ipad mini . I will give you points if u help me solve this   .

    if you both sharing the same iphone hotspot then I am 99.9% sure that your issue was bandwidth your friends one may have streamed  better cause he was probably taking up most of what bandwidth there was and also on mobile phone bandwidth is affected by signal, I know when streaming on my iphone5 (as a hotspot) if I have 4G LTE streaming is mucher smoother than if I have 1 bar of 3G.

  • Bandwidth required during registration of ip sip phone

    what is the bandwidth requirement of cisco 9971 model phone during registration?

    Thanks a lot Vivek... I went through it...but I think it talks about the bandwidth provisioning for voice traffic..for signalling and once the call is established....I neeed to know the bandwidth required just for registration ...i.e. in the following steps ( only registration without placing any call)
    1. The phone contacts the TFTP server and requests the Certificate Trust List file .
    2. The phone contacts the TFTP server and requests its SEP<mac-address>.cnf.xml configuration file.
    3. The Phone downloads the default configuration XMLDefault.cnf.xml file from the TFTP server.
    4. The SIP phone requests a firmware upgrade (Load ID file) and upgrades the firmware image automatically when required for a new version of CUCM.
    5. The phone downloads the SIP dial rules configured for that phone.
    6. The phone Establish connection with the primary CUCM and the TFTP server end to end.
    7. The phone Registers with the primary CUCM server listed in its configuration file.
    8. The phone downloads the appropriate localization files from TFTP.
    9. The phone downloads the softkey configurations from TFTP.
    10. The phone downloads custom ringtones (if any) from TFTP.
    Also, I need t o know if the bandwidth required for this process is same for all phone models or different? Specifically, I need  this data for Cisco 9971 model.Please help...Thanks..

  • "Video Bandwidth Unavailable" on 7960 phone with video

    We have severla sites using video on workstations and Cisco 7960 phoens.
    It is working.
    Recently one branch stopped working with "Videio Bandwifht Unavailable" on the phones when trying to connect.
    Qos settings have not changed since it was working and the traffic is getting marked oper the policy.
    This policy worked at one time and is the same for all branches.
    Audio is fine.
    Is there a setting in Call Manager I can check to make sure there is enough bandwidth allotted for video?

    Hi,
    In the CCMAdmin page, go to System > Locations. Make sure that the location between which you have video issue has sufficient video bandwidth.
    Thanks,

  • "Not enough bandwidth" message on IP Phones

    Hi All,
    We have a call manager 6.X cluster with remote sites. One of the remote locations is experiencing the low bandwidth error message. This message occurs sometimes throughout the peak times when no one is using the IP Phones. The WAN link is usually experiencing high latency of 300ms but the bandwidth is not being maxed out. The bandwidth is 10MB. The voice gateway is MGCP (2821) with T1 CAS PSTN.
    All calls are made internally within the remote site and externally over the PSTN. No calls are made to other remote sites.
    Remote site IP Phones
    DP_M01, which has a location with audio bandwidth of 2MB and region of calls to other regions to use G729 and same region to use G711.
    Remote site gateway
    Assigned to DP_DC1, has a location with unlimited bandwidth and a region similar to above.
    Can someone advise if there is any troubleshooting steps for this issue as I am out of options to try.

    the location in which the phones are in defines the bandwidth, that "not enough bandwidth" message is typically displayed when the location in which the phone is in, runs out.
    You can use RTMT to verify how much bandwidth a certain location has: Performance>Cisco Locations then check the location you are interested in.  monitor. have a phone in it make a call and see if it substracts. you should not make it more than 2Mbps is Qos is set up for that bandwidth otherwise you are oversubscribing.
    I believe 6.x still has the option to re-sync bandwidth, try that

  • Terrible bandwidth with phone connected to WiFi network.

    When I connect my Galaxy Note 4 to my wireless network, my WiFi bandwidth is terrible.  Prior to connecting the phone I am seeing 99ms pings and 10MB per second download speeds.  After connecting the phone, the ping goes up to 650ms or more and the bandwidth drops to 1 or 2 MB per second.  I have a DSL connection and I use Integra.net/Speedtest to test my bandwidth.  Any ideas?

    Most home services are much slower than cellular data.
    Many factors affect DSL or cable internet. Number of people using the service or the number of devices on in your home network.
    Just bad settings on the modem/router just like I said too many factors. Have your DSL provider send a tech to your home to get a signal reading.
    Go into a free WiFi place like Starbucks or McDonalds or a Quick Lube center and see if the connection is better.
    Good Luck

  • CAC Not limiting bandwidth or phone calls between locations.

    Hello, I'm running a test set up with a couple locations and attempting to make several calls between them to test the CAC bandwidth limits.
    The bandwidth limit between Location A and Location B is set to 50kbps.
    3 Phones 7940s are in Location A and 1 CIPC is in location B (When looking at Devices > Phones, it shows their respective Location A DP and Location B DP.  Regions are set up and G.729 is used between the locations.  I know regions are working, because when I look at call statistics, it shows the G.729 8kpbs used instead of the 711.
    I can place 4,5,6 or however many calls between the two locations and they all go through. I'm not sure why I'm not getting the "Bandwidth limit exceeded" and Location just isn't working. I've tried deleting and re-creating the locations.
    Any thoughts? Thank you very much for your consideration.

    Hello Harvey,
    First of all LCAC and E-LCAC require 24 kbps for a single G.729 call.
    Your are running CUCM 9.x which introduced Enhanced Location CAC.
    E-LCAC employs LBM service and uses Call Treatment When No LBM Available CUCM service parameter  to decide how to proceed if LBM is not available.
    For a fresh install LBM service is down and the latter param is set to Allow Calls.
    So please navigate to Serviceability and check if Cisco Location Bandwidth Manager service is activated and running.
    Once you confirm that:
    SSH to your server and issue file tail activelog cm/trace/lbm/sdl * recent to see requests for bandwidth deduction in real time,
    Make a test call and you should see something like:
    00117318.001 |20:12:09.240 |AppInfo  |LBMServer - Received from CallManager:
    msg = {
      messageId = (881)
      msgkey = ()
      nofwd = (0)
      choice = (reservationReq)
      reservationReq = (
        transId = (12071793471388647784)
        seqNum = (0)
        choice = (reserve)
        reserve = (
          sideA = (
            loc = (TEST1)
            fs_id = (StandAloneCluster:27335818)
            ext = ()
          sideB = (
            loc = (TEST2)
            fs_id = (StandAloneCluster:27335819)
            ext = ()
          <snip/>
          a_bw = (24)
    This is a request to deduct 24 kbps from the audio pool for a call between locations TEST1 and TEST2.
    Next it will show you the actual deduction (160 kbps audio pool has - 24 kbps for a G.729 accounts for 136 kbps left):
    00117323.010 |20:12:12.350 |AppInfo  |LBM: RES_REC add Edge TEST1->TEST2. Left=136, Calls=1
    00117323.011 |20:12:12.350 |AppInfo  |LBM: RES_REC add Edge TEST2->TEST1. Left=136, Calls=1
    Let me know if that helps.

  • Total Bandwidth req for IP Phone

    Hi,
    consider the scenario:
    I have centralized deployment.I have branch site which will make a call in ratio of 2:1 (if there is 2 phones one will be active ONcall).
    I want to know
    1.what will be the Bandwidth required for SCCP registration on CCM for single IP Phone
    2.What will the bandwidth requirement for Keepalive messages between branch and data centre for single IP Phone with MGCP as wellas H323
    3.Will there be any other thing utilizes the bandwidth if so what are they?
    Thanks,
    Hari

    the main thing u need to consider in voip bandwidth
    is the codec in use
    for example with g711 voice call consude about 64k while with g729 24 this is whiout over head
    one more idea
    if u are using CAC with CCM one call g711 needs 80k and g729 24k
    while with an IOS gatekeeper
    g711 needs 128k and g729 16k per call
    all above without L2 overhead
    good luck

  • Bandwidth problem with 7971 IP Phones

    Hello,
    We're using Cisco IP Phones 7971G-GE connected to a Cisco switch 3560G PoE-24 on a Cat6 network. The version of the Call Manager is 5.1.1. The switch, phones, servers and clients are setup to use a port configuration of 1000Full (we tried in auto neg also with the same result). The clients workstations are connected to the Pc port of the phone (also setup to 1000Full). When we try to upload a file to the server we have a normal bandwidth (around 30Mo/s) but when we try to download a file from the server (or from other clients) the bandwidth drop to 300ko/s... if we connect the client workstation directly to the network plug (bypassing the phone) we have a regular download (around 22Mo/s). So it seems that the phone for some reason degrade (damage) the incoming bandwidth... any idea?

    Yes, we already ruled out the duplex issues on both links (all the ports are setup to 1000Full).
    We will try to upgrade the firmware and I'll let you know. Just to check, I've seen there's a newer firmware for the 7971 (cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-3-3.zip) should I install this one or do you think the 8-2-2SR4 is better (cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-2-2SR4.zip)?
    Thanks for your help, i really appreciate. :)

  • CUCM 8.6.2 Phones not registering 7841 and 8831

    Hi all
    I am trying to register some new phones - 7841 and 8831.  We installed the COP and Device Pack and rebooted the cluster.  Firmware defaults in the server are sip78xx.10-1-1SR2-1 and sip8831.9-3-3-5.
    These are the first phones of these models that we are trying to use.  All other devices are up and working.  I added the phones manually, auto-reg is disabled.  These new phones are both displaying the same behavior - they booted, but neither device will register.  They are both running the the same firmware version configured as the default in the server.
    I have looked at some other discussions but haven't seen any solutions that match up with our issue.   Your input and ideas appreciated, thanks

    I'm having this same problem. Over the weekend, I installed the latest device packs and restarted both servers in the cluster. I'm running CUCM 8.6.2 and the phones are 8831.
    What's really strange is that the phone is getting incorrect info from the switch port. It's getting a DHCP address from the VLAN2 subnet, when it should be receiving an IP from the VLAN100 subnet.
    VLAN2 = Data
    VLAN100 = Voice
    The original port config:
    interface FastEthernet0/25
     description Workstations on VLAN2 - Phones on VLAN 100
     switchport access vlan 2
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport trunk native vlan 2
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 100
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0
     mls qos trust device cisco-phone
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip cisco-phone
     spanning-tree portfast
    end
    I even changed the switch port configuration to this:
    interface FastEthernet0/25
     description Workstations on VLAN2 - Phones on VLAN 100
     switchport access vlan 100
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport trunk native vlan 100
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 100
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0
     mls qos trust device cisco-phone
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip cisco-phone
     spanning-tree portfast
    end
    VLAN 2 isn't even in the configuration, but the phone (even after a RESET) is still getting an IP from the DHCP server on VLAN2.
    Very strange behavior.
    Additional info:
    The phone status menu is showing a continuous message of:
    TFTP Timeout : SEPXXXXXXXXXXXX.cnf.xm.
    No Trust List Installed.
    Any suggestions / ideas would be appreciated.

  • Phone line and infinity

    Hi all
    Please excuse this question as to some it may be glaringly obvious, but I have been interested about Infinity and VDSL on a phone line.
    Scenario: Customer lives 2km from the exchange. New FTTC cabinet is installed 100m from the customer.
    This means that the VDSL signal only has to travel the last 100m (or thereabouts) to the customer.
    It would not be good to "energise" the whole 2km of cable with the VDSL signal so is there some kind of filter to stop the VDSL signal going back up the 1900m "pair" to the exchange?
    Thanks
    ptan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The way I understand it, and the most efficient way too, is:
    From the exchange, an optical fibre bundle runs to the cabinet. This transports both broadband and voice service - it's got enough bandwidth for everything and then some.
    From the cabinet, copper twisted pair wires run to every house serve by that cabinet. There is a DSLAM in the cabinet which interfaces between the optical fiber to the exchange and the copper to the house, for the VDSL2 service.
    So the VDSL2 is from each house to the cabinet, and from the cabinet an optical fibre bundle runs to the exchange. Meaning there is no more a live copper wire connection from exchange to cabinet - this would be redundant.

  • What is the maximum bandwidth of a BT Home Hub 3.0...

    I've just had an interesting chat with a BT rep trying to sell me a new contract by promising a new YouView box.  (As if!)  During the conversation some interesting info came out.
    I have unlimited Infinity2 installed November 2011.  I was supplied with a BT Home Hub 3.0B at that time.  Despite the promises of Infinity2 of "up to", (yeah I know ), 76Mb I have never achieved over 38Mb.  Strange as BT themselves say my line should be capable 56Mb based on their own tests of my postcode.
    When I complained about this I was told that it was the Home Hub 3.0 which is the bottleneck as that has a maximum bandwidth of 40Mb.  Can any knowledgeable person confirm this?
    If that is the case how could I be sold a 76Mb package when a 38Mb one is available and supplied with only 40Mb hardware to run it.  If this is true, in my estimation it is another example of marketing sharp practice in spades.
    Any advice from the gurus?

    Can you get your IP Profile by running the BT Performance test at www.speedtest.btwholesale.com, please? When the first test has finished, press the Further Diagnostics button then after you enter your phone number, your IP Profile should be displayed.
    I'm interested to see what your Upstream profile is set to as it should be 20 if you're on Infinity2 but may be 10 if you're actually on Infinity1.
