IP Scheme For Access Points

I have access points deployed across several buildings that each have a different IP scheme and their own T1 line. Is it possible to configure the 5508 controller to allow these access points to use the IP scheme assigned for that particular building or will dhcp always assign an IP address to the connecting client based on the IP scheme of the building that the controller resides in?

Yes, you can configure the AP to work in FlexConnect mode.

  • N86, PAYG - keeps asking for Access Point

Hi, I have a N86 with O2 on pay-as-you-go. For some reason, it's keeps asking me for a "Access point user name" and password. It asks this even when I not trying to use the phone.
The phone works for calls. and I can connect to the internet to browse the web. I can't connect to the internet to use data to use AGPS though.
Anyway, it sounds as if the phone is regularly trying to connect to an access point to obtain some data. Any ideas why would be appreciated...I really can't think that anything is set up that should cause this.

go to connectivity settings and set to automatic instead of always ask . Or as aspergerguy suggested turn geo tagging on and off as required , but if you check your settings in connectivity it should work without asking good luck

  • Searching for Access Point Report by SSID on the WCS

    Hello,
im searching for an option to make a Report on the WCS (Software Version 6.0.170.0 )  to see all SSIDs that are ratiated in detail by the Access Points.
I mean something like this: (example)
    AP 1   -  SSID 1 and SSID 2
    AP2   -   SSID 1
    AP3   -   SSID 3 and SSID2
Or is they any other alternativ to see that on the WCS or WLC?
    Thank You

    Hi,
The "AP SUMMARY" report will provide you the AP group to which the AP is mapped to.. here by we can come to know what all WLANs are getting broadcasted by the AP..

  • Syslog server for access points

    Hello,
On the controller, when you look at an access points config. There is the syslog server for the access point with the default ip address of 255.255.255.255. I was wondering if there was any way to disable the syslog server for the access points. The only thing I've found so far is that the ip address of the syslog server can be changed.
    Thanks,

i am not sure if "no" command works.

  • Mac-adress list of manufacturers only for access points

    hello,
i'm going to look for forbidden access points at the ports of huge network. is there any document that can show me whether a mac adress is an access point or not ?

If you want to do rogue access point detection then you have a few options:
    1. Scan suspected ranges for port 80 servers as almost every access point has web-based configuration.
    2. Cisco has provided a list of vendor mac address who make Access Points.
This list is found in their
"SAFE: Wireless LAN Security in Depth - version 2"
    whitepaper
    Check the link
    "http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_white_paper09186a008009c8b3.shtml"
The list is at the very bottom of the whitepaper
"Table C-7 MAC OUIs Used by Access Point Vendors"
"Table C-7 provides a partial list of MAC OUIs used by access point vendors. This table was obtained from the aptools site at aptools.sourceforge.net."

  • N8 camera keeps asking for access point setting

Most times when I start the camera I get the popup saying "Network connection required. Define access point to connect?". I realise that it'll need a connection because I've enabled geo tagging, but shouldn't I only have to set this once? I've looked in the menus & can't find anything in there to set it permanently. It;'s most annoying & I reckon I'll be missing photo opportunities because of it.

  • WLC: Configuring Global Credentials for Access Points

    Hi,
I have an WLC 4404 running Software Version 5.0.148.0 with 40 LWAPPs (1242AG, some 1231G). I want to configure global credentials for the LWAPPs. The configuration guide did not mention, if I have to reboot the LWAPPs after setting the credentials.
So, could I set this option during operation time? Thanks a lot for your help.
    Regards
    Simon

    Hi,
Configuring the "Override global credentials" option in the GUI does not reboot the AP. It can be done in a production environment, just did it on one of my 1252s to test.
    Hope it helps.

  • Mail for Exchange - Access Point question

    Hello,
When setting up Mail for Exchange, you need to input the Access Point.  I cannot find an option to select "Ask for Access Point" or something along that line.
I use wireless access points and when I go from one spot to another I have to change my settings just to sync.
Does anyone know of an option, if not how could I file for a feature request?

The specific problem can be resolved. How did you hard reset your phone? You should hard reset your phone (some key combination which I cannot remember, press four keys simultaneously). Then format mass memory. Reinstall the firmware. Otherwise let Nokia Care reflash your phone. I had issues with freezes when I hung up a call, but that was resolved when Nokia Care reflashed my phone.
My phone is currently broken, so I cannot help you further.

  • Nokia E6 - Where is the Access point setting for Y...

I have my Nokia E6 configured for my Corporate Email, MfE and it works fine.  In the settings for MfE, I see a setting for Access Point, where I choose Internet with Priority 1 as my Home WLAN and Priority 2 as my GPRS connection.
Then, I started to configure my private Yahoo mail, evertyhing is done, it works fine, but I do not see any settings for Access Point for the Yahoo mail..
Does this mean it picks up the settings from MfE???
Can any other NOkia E6 users or experts comment on this??

    Hi Stuart,
    To answer your question:
There is no shared secret for the ACS itself.
If the ACS is going to communicate with another device, you have to define a AAA client and define a shared secret.
ACS 4, used that shared secret to protect/secure the replication, in ACS 5, the replication secured with encryption and not shared secrets(hash).

  • Requirement for Native VLAN on Flexconnect Access Point

    Hi All,
Just looking at AP configuration using 5508 WLC.
We have APs deployed at all branch sites connected over a corporate L3 WAN to a Data Centre which houses the WLC(s)
When setting the AP for Flexconnect mode there is a requirement that one native VLAN must be configured for each FlexConnect AP. If the AP is attached to a L2 switch and I want to enable multiple VLAN Mappings then I would need to add these VLANs to the allowed VLAN list on a trunk link between the AP and the switch (802.1Q) on the branch site.
Normally if I configured a trunk link I would never add the Native VLAN to the trunk and never use it for any traffic. In this case it would appear that I MUST use the native VLAN (which seems to go against my better judgement). So my question (after all this) is: What must the AP use the Native VLAN?
    Thanks All.

This has always been a standard practice for access points that has to connect to a trunk port. This goes back to the autonomous access points and also with FlexConnect and Mesh if your setting up Ethernet bridging.  Wired side is different from the wireless side as you have noticed.

  • Access Point Switchport configuration for OOB NAC

    Hello.
Here we have to implement Out of Band with WLC and NAC, I have already checked this guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6128/products_configuration_example09186a0080a138cc.shtml
But I have a little doubt. On the document showed above does not specific which vlan should be configured on switch's access port facing access points. Should I configure this with trusted or untrusted VLAN? I know all traffic from wireless clients go to WLC through a CAPWAP tunnel, but I am not really sure on the Out of Band deployment which access vlan should be for access points.
    Greettings.

Just to add again to another one of Steve's post:)  You don't want to put the AP traffic through NAC, but only the traffic for the wireless clients which egress out of the WLC.  So if your wireless clients are being placed in VLAN30 (just an example), you can have an untrusted layer 2 vlan VLAN29 which hit the NAC untrusted and if remediation id good, then placed in VLAN30.  Makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • WLC upgrade license and access point

    Hi everyone,
I need suggestion regarding wlc 5508  upgrade license. Right now i have 150 license for access points. There will be upgrade around 300 access points. So we are planning to buy new license until the maximum capacity of 5508 (500 licenses).
Our management ip address is 192.168.50.x/24 . so all the access point are pointed to this management ip address (in the same subnet)
    First question,
Because there will be an upgrade to around 450 access point. The current management ip address will not be enough.
Please, give me the  best suggestion ?
Should i create another management ip address ? or I need to make a bigger subnet using the current management ip address ?
if i create a bigger ip address, the current access points must be set again yups ?
    Second question
There will be a new link connected to the wlc, and i want to create new user subnets.
what is the best practices for this matter ?
if there are better suggestion, please let me know, i am still learning about wireless
    I have attached the topology.
    Thank you
    Fanie

For an example, a 5508 can support up to 500 AP's, and the AP's can be in one large subnet or be in many different subnets and or even different locations. As long as the ap knows how to discover the WLC or the ap already had joined the WLC, then the AP's don't have to be on the same subnet as the WLC. The easiest way to have AP's join is to stage them on the same subnet as the WLC management and then move them to a different subnet. I would probably have no more than 100 AP's per subnet, but that's me. Stage some AP's on the management subnet that the WLC is on and then when the AP's join and complete downloading code, change the switch port Vlan and shut and no shut the port. The ap will come back up and join the WLC.

  • Access point are not coming up after upgrade image of WLC

    Hi,
I have AIR-WLC4402-50-K9 WLC i that current IOS is 7.0.98.218 and i upgraded with 7.0.116.0 IOS but after upgrading and reboot the WLC from 15 access point 3 access point are not coming up and 12 are coing up and working fine (4 1142 and 11 1131 series access point) 3 which are not coimg is 1131 series access point. when i login with console to 3 access point its rebooting 2 times and coming on ap: prompt.
In between that i reloaded the WLC one more time because from 15 acess point only 4 aceess point are came up and i also cleck the show boot on wlc its output is
    7.0.116.0 (default)
    7.0.98.218 (active)
so i reload  the wlc and checked out of 15 acess point now 12 acess point are up and still 3 are not. And i also checked the output of show boot command its
    7.0.116.0 (default)(active)
    7.0.98.218
So i things its because of when 2nd time i reload the wlc the remaining 3 access point are getting image from wlc but because of reload its connection should be loss and error loading flash error are coming on acess point.
After that i recover the IOS for access point and convert into autonomus and from autonomus convert into Leightweight Access point. I also attached the procedure for recover the ios of access poing
But my question is why this 3 access point are not coming up is this happen's after upgrading wlc can any one please send me Step by Step WLC S/W Upgrade' process and if this this happens some time please send me any doccument related to this.

    Sunil,
When you rebooted the controller did you do it from the Web GUI, the CLI, or did you physically reboot the controller? I believe and maybe incorrect but if your getting the ap:  < prompt > that means that there is no firmware on the unit. If you have restored these to functioning autonomous unit and then re-converted them to Lightweight and it's still happening then we need to look at a debug output of what is happening when those AP's attempt to join the controller.
The capture you attached shows that it appears to join the controller and get a config, but are you saying that when it reboots again it stops working?? the other thing I would reccomend is clear out the flash memory since your capture shows the possibility that there are several copies stored there.
    Hope this helps.

  • CISCO887V-SEC-K9 as Access Point

    Hi
I have cisco 887V (CISCO887V-SEC-K9) router. I am not sure it will work as Access Point or not. It does not have any external antennas installed.
I checked on website and found that all Cisco 887V routers have option of Access Point and also found that the software ap801-k9w7-tar.124-10b.JY.tar
can be used for access point.
If its is possible to install can any one help to install and configure this software on cisco 887V router

    Hi Mahmood,
    Sadly, you would need one of these models;
