IP SLA Measurements

Hi Team,
My customer is looking to target12 kbps for an ICMP IP SLA probe. What would be the values required for the frequency, interval, # of frames and payload to achieve this.
Frequency (or period of measurement):
Interval between packets:
# of frames per period
Payload without header
Required BW
12 kbps
Thanks,
Ahmed

  • ALL IP SLAs to dmVPN spokes give invalid RTT=1 . Nodes use NTP. What can be the reason for this?

IP SLA Measurements are invalid. RTT should be 20 to 60ms, but IP SLAs deliver RTT=1ms. This applies for UDP Jitter and UDP echo IP SLAs.
    Nodes use NTP time.

you can use any router you want - I use a netgear others belkin - up to you.

Has anyone used IP SLA for internet type monitoring please let me know.
I have few sites i managed in the UK, US & Germany with different provides BGP Multihoming and wanted to use IP SLA to do some measurement related to availability, performance and health of  Internet services. At present if something change within the provider cloud upstream to us for example a device failure cauisng a re-route, latency, we have no way of finding out!!!  Has anyone deployed this type of setup?

  • IP SLA calculation understanding

I find some issues in IP SLA measurements.
I have configured IP SLA jitter porbes, and get inconsisten results.
    A debug on a probe provide :
    12w4d: IPSLA-OPER_TRACE:OPER:2 udp-jitter STS: 55003580, RTD: 55003054, STD: 55003591, RTS: 55002774

    12w4d: IPSLA-OPER_TRACE:OPER:2 udp-jitter seq=1, rtt=1
Could you tell me what STS, RTD, STD and RTS mean ?
    Many thanks

    Dear Varma,
I’m pretty sure the ICMP is handled by the line-card’s CPU so the performance is based on the type of the line-card.
You can as well use the “start-time random” so there’s no huge influx of SLA operations at once

  • Solution Manager 7.1 IT Service Management: IRT, MPT new status

    Hello everyone,
I am wondering, if  in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 IT Service Management I can customize new status into SLA measurement, for example 'Customer action' duration time at Web browser (similiar fuctionality as IRT(The initial response time) and MPT(maximum processing time)).[IRT & MPT|http://pokazywarka.pl/ysrkhe/]
Equally, new SLA status should be calculating duration for the other incident status for example "In process". If anyone has idea, please advice.

    Hi,
Under the System Prepration section I have 2 questions I need additional clarification:
    1. Under 6.2 Prepare Outside Discovery -> Establish trusted connection-> /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/host_profile of solution manager server:
    a. I added service/admin_users = daaadm. Am I suppose to include the password? what should the formate be?
What you have entered is fine. Would not need to provide the password as well. Check the External discovery troubleshooting guide sections.
    https://websmp207.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000486362011E
    2. Under 6.3 Connect Diagnostic Agent -> ran the following command on my ECC server:
    ./smdsetup.sh managingconf hostname:"solutionmanager.FQN" port:"50004" user:"ddaadm" pwd:"password1"
    a. Is the user/password referring to SolutionManager admin account?
    b. How do I check if it's running correctly?
    c. How to get my solution manager to see my Ecc server's diag agent?
The user password should be a Solution Manager Java user like SMD_ADMIN or J2EE_ADMIN
How to check for diagonstic agents, again check the trouble shooting guide referred above.
    I checked the following:
Start Visual Administrator and navigate to: Server node -> Services -> Security Provider. Please also make sure that the MBeanAdmin is mapped to the Administrators Security role on both: com.adobe/AdobeDocumentServicesADS-EJB and com.adobe/DocumentServicesLicenseManagerADS-License
I don't see the Adminstrator role to add to the above. Am I suppose to just enter "administrator"?
Yes, just add the role "Administrators"
    2. Solution Manager Internal Connection -> Setup DPC/DCC Web Service URL
    a. I'm supposed do the following: You have started the Agent Administration:
    b. How do I start the Agent Administration?
Make sure you have the role SAP_SMWORK_DIAG assigned to your user ID via SU01. Then call solution_manager tcode and goto the RCA tab. Agent Administration link should be available.

  • Why Packet loss increases

    Hi,
I implemented a QoS for VoIP purposes and I used ip sla measurements for jitter to observe the changes of jitter and packet loss.
From comparison I have that a jitter is decreased but the packet loss is increased getting worse the MOS and the ICPIF. Why?
I applied the CBWFQ & LLQ on output WAN subinterfaces (ATM).

    Hey heatherfoeh!
What a funny thing you ask because velocity has been on my mind recently. Just this past month, I wrote two blogs (here and here) on the topic of velocity and the last one I am going to write is about "How to measure it". So this question is perfect.
Here is how we do it at ReadyTalk.
    1. We first define all of our transitions within the technology. Meaning which field is being flipped to signify a transition has occurred We capture this on several different records as the lead works its way through the system.
On the lead record, we capture created date, first contact attempt, contact made, converted date. We do this by date stamping the relevant field each time the lead goes through a transition. Below you see our lead status. Each time this field is flipped, there is a corresponding hidden field that is stamped. The use of these fields allows us to then create reports in SFDC using a formula that calculates the number of days between two dates.
On the opp records we have the same process but this time we are tracking the velocity through the pipeline. So we go from SAL>SQO>CW or CL. Each time the opp stage is flipped a corresponding date stamp is made. And, like above, you run formulas on this field to calculate # of days between two dates.
Now in terms of adherence to an SLA, you obviously have dashboards that you roll this up to in the form of average time between stages. You can also segment on velocity be owner (to see which AEs are "johnny on the spot" with their leads) or you can do velocity by lead source. You can also create workflow that throws alerts when a lead/opp has sat at one stage for two long.

  • About ASR9K Ethernet SLA one-way measurement

    Hi all,
    I have a question for Y.1731 one-way delay, one-way-delay variance measurement in ASR9K.
From the configuration guide document, it says that in order to monitor the one-way metrics, there must be valid DTI input into RSP card on ASR9K router at both ends (details below). I am wondering if there is any other alternative like deriving time from PTPv2? It is less likely to have DTI connection for all the routers.
To configure one-way delay measurements, be sure that the following clocking prerequisites are met:
•Frequency synchronization is configured globally in its default line timing mode (The clock-interface timing mode command is not configured.)
•The clock interface (Sync 0 / Sync 1) on the RSP is configured as a DTI port using the port-parameters dti command.
•Valid DTI input signals are available for the RSP clock-interface ports.
•Both Local and remote routers are using DTI timing input signals.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/software/asr9k_r4.2/interfaces/configuration/guide/hc42eoam.html#wp1040522

Or is there option to support BITS or SyncE?

  • How to measure un-queued requests

    Hi.
We have a web logic application that has to serve a lot of throughput.
To prevent timeouts on the client side, I configured it so that the work manager that takes in the requests is limited to a certain amount. The max-threads is configured comparably to the DB pool capability, and the limit is set in such a way so that we prevent the server to queue requests. Queuing proves deadly for us, as by the time the request actually makes to the executor, the client is gone.
The problem I'm seeing now, is that there doesn't seem to be a way to actually measure how many requests have been turned away. The only suggestion I got so far was to look into access logs, but I actually had to turn them off, as they are a performance issue on themselves, with the volume of requests we are having.
Knowing how many requests are falling off is relatively important, so that we can understand when there is time to add more app nodes.
    Thanks!
    Pawel.

    Hi,
You may please check the configuration part of SLA. This might help you : http://www.renet-web.net/2009/07/21/slas-made-easy-in-sap-solution-manager/
The 'Date of first response' is the time when message is taken for processing  and the other one is the time when message truns to have the status 'Finished or Resolved'.
If you are intended to build a program to determine the time for the different status changes, you might be intersted in checking the Extras--Change Documents in your message.

  • How I have multiple KPIs for the same measure?

    Hi there,
I am finishing up a PowerPivot data model which gathers information from a service desk system, and different customers have different SLA targets.
I know I can specify a KPI for each measure that I create. However is there a way to specify multiple KPIs the same measure, or any other way/workaround that can meet the requirement outlined above?
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Regards,
    P.

    Hi pmdci,
According to your description, you want to specify different target for different customer when creating KPI based on same measure. Right?
In PowerPivot, when we create a KPI, we can only specify calculated field or absolute value as target. We can't put any expression or function to specify a dynamic value as target value. Based on my knowledge, this requirement can be achieved in Reporting
Services. We just  need to create a Variable and use Switch() function in expression to set specific values for different users. In this scenario, it seems can't be achieved in PowerPivot currently. I suggest you post this thread on PowerPivot forum:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/home?forum=sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel
You may get some more effective advice there.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • IP SLA packet length

Can anybody clarify for me the total size of an IP SLA packet? We are going to be using UDP Jitter probes, and the way I see it it should be like this -
    Setup -
52 byte control packet exchange to set up measurement phase, then
    Measurement-
    20 byte IP Header + 8 byte UDP Header + 12 byte RTP Header + 32 byte payload (default) = 78 bytes
Is there a teardown packet exchange as well?
    thanks,
    Alex

ok, the math is wrong (72 byte total), but the question is still the same.

  • IP SLA port

    Hi,
Just a quick clarification. We use IP SLA product with a router configured as the SA agent(with ip sla monitor responder enabled) and use our SNMP Management station (Concord) to measure/take the stats from the routers and display accordingly. However, all the SA Agents (Customer CPE) have now moved behind a 3rd party maintained firewall. I need to open up this firewall but am unsure of the direction of the traffic flow.
So, I think it uses UDP Port 1967 but can you tell me if the SNMP Concorde Station polls the SA Agents/Customer CPE with UDP port 167 as destination?
    dunshaughlin_PE14_dub>sh ip sockets

    17 10.196.126.39 162 10.80.103.84 50646 0 0 0 0

Back again, I've just been onto the Concorde support people.
They have come back to me confirming that there concorde server can communicate via Port 161 to both the SAA Source and SAA Destination. The SAA Destination where the Responder command is enabled(10.80.103.105) can ping the SAA Source(10.80.100.54). However, Concorde are insisting that I need to confirm that the SAA source and SAA Destionation SLA app are communicating with each other.
I can successfully ping between each other but the ACL 111 I have enabled on both ends is not picking anything up even though Concorde is setup to poll every 62 seconds? My access-list 111 which I am debugging is
    SAA_Responder_dub#sh access-list 111
    Extended IP access list 111

  • ME IP SLA on U-PE device?

    Hello,
A Service provider delivers EVCs with QoS and wants to monitoring the performance of their customers using IP SLA. We recommend using shadow routers on SP POPs and measure between these POPs, but they want to see the performance on every EVC on the network using IP SLA directly on the U-PE device.
I was reading that the ME3400 has some limitations regarding IP SLA:
The Cisco ME 3400 switch includes partial support for Cisco IOS IP Service Level Agreements (IP SLAs) to provide advanced network service monitoring information and collect data pertaining to SLAs verification. The switch can initiate and reply jitter probes. However, the traffic does not follow the queuing configuration that is applied to customer traffic. All locally originated traffic always goes to the same egress queue on the switch port, regardless of the ToS setting for the IP SLAs probe. We recommend the use of an external shadow router to measure latency and packet drop rate (PDR) across the switch.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6580/prod_release_note09186a00806700ee.html#wp833196
Is there any U-PE device that has full IP SLA support? Do you have any recommendation?
    Thanks!
    Alex

Cisco IP solution centre also supprots SLA.

We on daily basis share with them AWR report of time span 9:30AM to 10:30AM (peak trading hours). I have written a few blog posts about AWR analysis (http://savvinov.com/category/awr/) -- some of them may be useful to you. However, AWR reports are not so good for monitoring purposes. Monitoring is about trends -- AWR doesn't have that. Plus, application performance should be measured in its native metrics (KPIs or "key performance indicator"). For instance, for an online shop that would be the number of orders processed, average time it takes to process an order etc. Low level stats such as the number of table scans per unit time or IO stats doesn't really tell whether or not an application is performing satisfactorily.
From the database point of view, a simple overview of the OEM Performance Page should be enough to get a basic idea whether the database is ok.
can you suggest what all recommendadtions we can include in this AWR report or how we can study on daily basis this AWR report extracted to mention recommendation to customer.I've seen a lot of such recommendations -- 99% of them are garbage, and the customers treat it accordingly. Unless there are clear signs of a performance issue, recommendations are generally neither necessary, nor possible (without additional information about the application). Ain't broken -- don't fix it.
apart from this what other performance reports we can share with customer which will make cilent view their database stat in terms of performace tunning and all.
We can share daily database checks and all but I am trying to have some good performance end reports which can be extract to share with client??Ideally, you should have SLAs with your customers which should clearly define how much time a certain user action should take. Without an SLA and/or specific complaints from the user there is little you can do about database performance, except for when something obvious shows up on the report.

    Nikolay
