IP5 WiFi grayed out after upate to iOS8

After the update to iOS 8 my Iphone 5's wifi button just grayed out. The wifi modem just stopped working.  I have tried reseting, deleting all network setting etc but it didn't worked for me. The sad thing is that happened in last days of my warranty. I could only deliver it to service today so some days after a problem occured. I really hope they will respect it. On the other hand that's sad that the official update caused of hardware malfunction.

The only way to fix greyed out wifi is to go in iFile and change the wifi property list file. Go to var_preferences_SystemConfiguration and find com.apple.wifi.plist. Open it up with the Property List Viewer and turn AllowEnable on. I hope I have saved you from a trip to the apple store.

  • Wifi grayed out after update. Restored phone as new. How do I get data from iCloud without wifi?

My wifi was grayed out and my battery drains drastically after updating to 6.1.3.
I have tried all possible solutions to get my wifi back. However, nothing seems to work. I am now trying to (at least) get my battery back to normal. I read in other posts that restoring the iPhone as a new phone > drain battery > full charge might help.
I did the restore as new phone and do not want to restore from back up. I just like to manually back up some (not all) data I've lost and keep my phone like this, like new. How do i back up my messages and photos from iCloud if my phone wont connect to wifi?
    Any ideas?
Is there another way to get my photos and messages back aside from doing an iCloud backup?

You can't view or extract backed up data at iCloud.com. AFAIK, without a WiFi connection, there is no way to retrieve your data. You'd need another iPhone to restore your iCloud backup to in order to retrieve it. Of couse this would require either doing an out of warranty replacement for your existing phone, ot borrowing a phone from someone, erasing it, then setting it up using your Apple ID.
You could make an appointment at an Apple store to see what the genius bar can offer you.

  • Am i the only one having a wifi gray out after updating to ios 8?

    Am i the only one???

I'm sure you are not. With half a billion iOS devices in use, no matter what issue you have there's sure to be someone else who has it. But how does knowing that help you?
See: iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim for help.

  • This is a different type of the "wifi grayed out."

This is a different type of the "wifi grayed out." My Iphone experiences the same problem that others have, the wifi becomes grayed out and I am unable to click it. However, after five or so days the wifi miraculously returns to full functionality, but then returns to grayed out again. I went to the Apple store, and they said I had water damage (i am skeptical) because my phone has been no where near water. I did the "freezer" trick that some mention, and that got it to work for a bit but not long. I am assuming that  it is a hardware problem and not software, since everything else works fine. I have a 4s on the latest ios. Can someone help me before the wifi turns gray again? I don't want to have to buy a new phone if needed.

You need to follow the steps below:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
If Apple have confirmed water damage then more than likely you will need to get a replacement.

  • Airport Time Capsule Caused iPhone Wifi Gray Out

My new Airport Time Capsule (2 TB) and my MacBook Pro connect via wifi, but my iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3 upgrade months ago - no problems) did not detect my TC.   The iPhone wifi icon disappeared while I was looking for my TC in the list of wifi signals and wifi is now grayed out in my iPhone Settings.  I tried the various remedies for wifi gray out many people apparently experienced upon iOS 6.1.3 upgrade, but none worked, not even delete/restore.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Has anyone heard of this happening during TC setup?  Thanks.

Apple claims the Airport Time Capsule had nothing to do with the iPhone gray out issue, which they say is an out of warranty iPhone hardware issue. The apparent solution is to purchase a new iPhone 4s for $199.
I had my iPhone a little over 500 days. Let's call it 500 even, which is 720,000 minutes or 43,200,00 seconds.
Qs: What is the probability that a wifi hardware flaw unrelated to my attempt to establish a wifi link to the TC would materialize in the very minute of a link attempt? What is the probability of witnessing the resulting the gray out the very second it occurred?
(I know some of you are thinking the probabilities are 100% for me. Very funny.)

    Hi lavalava,
I have looked over your VI and tried to run it and while I can run your VI and get the same error, when I try to recreate it in a new VI, I cannot recreate the issue.  The only difference between your test.vi and mine is that I am not calling the Xcontrol. I am calling the same set of 4 random number generators and putting them into a cluster, but I am not referencing the RNG cluster.  I think this is where the issue lies and it is possible that you Xcontrol is corrupt.  While I could find the Data 2 that shows up in the test.vi, I couldn't find the image.vi  Where are you calling the image.vi?
Also, have you tried developing your program on a different operating system?  LabVIEW is not supported on Windows XP 64 bit, and while it seems to operate fine in most cases, there are definitely a few instances that will have unexpected behavior in the XP 64 bit environment.  Thanks!
    Kim W.
Hi, Kim.  It sounds like you were never able to run the attachment to see the actual problem.  This is simply a drawing issue with Labview.  I have already tried this on XP x64, XP x32, Vista x86, Vista x64, and 7 x86.
The image.vi is inside "RNG" folder.  All the files you needed to run the simulation should be included in that attachment above.
    Thanks

  • My wi-fi slide is grayed out after IOS 7.1 update

I have the iphone 4s and my wi-fi slide is grayed out after my update of IOS 7.1. I tried network reset and factory reset and it still didn't work. Please help.

    There was no "force".
There is nothing about iOS7 that breaks Wi-Fi on the iPhone 4 or any other iPhone.  Don't believe me?  Lift your fingers and search these forums, you'll see issues going back to at least iOS5 with multiple versions of iPhones where after an iOS update the Wi-Fi is grayed out.  It is not a specific version of iOS or specific models of iPhone.
The issue is simply that on some iPhones, the Wi-Fi hardware is "on the fence" so to speak, and upgrading iOS (regardless of version) is extremely difficult on the hardware.  Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi has failed.
Nothing lasts forever.  Accept it and move on.

  • My iPhone 4's WiFi button is grayed out after update

Just spent the last 60 minutes on the phone with Apple support in regards to my iPhone 4's WiFi button being grayed out and unable to turn on. Went through all the steps and suggtions I found on the forums and support. Nothing worked.
Called Apple Support and was walked through a total factory reset of the phone...still doesn't work!
I was told that they can not help me because the phone is out of warranty...THIS HAPPENED AFTER UPDATING TO YOUR CRAPPY iOS 7 update! It's your glitch...using the wording from the nice Apple Support gal...she admitted it's their "occasional glitch" in the software. Now I have to get a new phone because of their software "glitch"?
