IPad 1: Failed sync then it turned itself off/can't switch back on

I tried to sync my iPad 1 in iTunes but got a message saying it wasn't possible (I've synced on this computer many times before and my iPad was working fine before). Then my iPad turned itself off.  I've tried charging etc but can't turn it back on.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Brand new 5s turned itself off, now wont switch back on?

Using my phone was at about 20% battery, put it in my pocket and went to use 5 mins later and screen is black and wont switch back on. Has been sitting on charge for about 25 minutes and still nothing even when pressing or holding the home button or top switch. It was fresh out the box yesterday so less than 24hrs old! Any ideas?

Keep in mind, the iPhone is really a mini-computer, & like all computers, sometimes(although rare with an iPhone) needs to be re-booted.
For all pratical purposes, that's what a reset is.

  • Equium beeps 5-6 sec and then it turns itself off

    Hi,
I've had my laptop for about a year and it has started to mess up.
When i turn it on all i get it a continous beep sound for about 5-6 seconds and then it turns itself off.
Does anyone know what is wrong with it and how i can fix it?
    Thanks

Hehe.. I would be a clairvoyant if I would know whats wrong with the notebook without checking it firstly ;)
I think nobody would be able to say whats wrong exactly but most of us can provide some suggestions and could suppose whats wrong
For me it sounds a little bit like a RAM issue.
I think you should firstly check the RAM modules use only one Ram or if possible try to boot up the notebook with new RAMs which are working for sure
    Good luck

  • Since updating to Ios7 I can't download films on my iPad mini, also iCloud seems to turn itself off. My other iPads are fine, as the mini was under warranty, they have given me a new one. However the problem is still there.

Since updating to IOS 7 I can't download purchased movies, I think the problem is iCloud, as that also keeps turning itself off.
I've been given a new iPad by my local apple store as it was under warranty, but I'm still having exactly the same, so it's not the pad, also my other pads are ok

If you are completely confident that you didn't hide it, then you purchased those with different apple id. If you completely confident that you purchases with same apple id then you have hidden it. One of the other or you are speaking about a miracle. While miracles are possible they are not very likely. • HT1689 My iPad turns itself off.  It comes back on but it is irritating when reading

My iPad turns itself off -- at odd times.  Sometimes it goes hours and then it will turn off three or four times in a row.  It is not full of files -  of 28g it still has 8 g available.    What am I doing wrong?

    Try the basic:
    (A) Restart iPad
    1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn off iPad.
    3. Turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.
    (C) Reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
    (D) Restore iPad
    1. Connect your device to your iTune (computer).
    2. Select your iPad when it appears in iTunes.
    3. Select the Summary tab.
    4. Click the Restore button.
    Note: Data will be lost

  • My iphone4 switches itself off and wont switch back on until its plugged into the mains

Hi there, can someone help me please!?
My iphone4 white had updated ios 4.3.3 and it randomly switches itself off, has anyone else had the same problem?
It just goes to black screen and I cant manually switch it back on, only when I connect it to the mains does it come back on.
What's also really strange is that once its reset from the mains it resets the date to 01/01/1970 and the time to 01:05?
Hopefully someone out there can help!? Mark

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

  • My iPhone (3GS) decided to turn itself off and never came back on!!!

I still didn't do the last update on it yet. I can't remember the last one.
Anyway, I used a few of my apps this morning, was using the dictionary with my son ...
I downloaded an app for cursive handwriting. We turned it on and checked it out.
I guess I set my phone down on the table, continued with our lesson, and next thing I know ...
Picked up my phone and it was off. Try to turn it on on the button, nothing. Connected to my PC, didn't even acknowledged that there was a "new hardware" connected. Plugged it in the wall charger ... nothing!
Oh, it has been charging all night, just like every night.
Any ideas on what this could possibly be?
    Thanks,
    Ana.

I have been reading further into this wonderful forum and found a few helpful hints.
Thank you so much for you guys who post these great answers.
Held the Sleep/Wake and the Home buttons for a few seconds and it finally came back to life!!!
    Whew!!!
    That was scary!

  • Anyone have any idea why there is an "error" when trying to activate iMessage? It randomly turned itself off and wont go back on.

    This just happened yesterday

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • 6300 Keeps turning itself off

I'm living in Phuket in Thailand and I have recently purchased a brand new 6300. I had it for a week and it kept going to sleep and then just turning itself off in the middle of a text or phone call. I have since turned off all sleep functions and battery savers and i still get the same problem.
The shop took it back for repair and I picked it up 4 weeks later. After 3 days I had the same problem. The shop tells me i can't get a refund and that I have to keep sending it to get repaired everytime it's faulty until the year warranty runs out and then I stuffed. I'm not aware of the statutory rights in Thailand as when I ask for a refund they laugh at me and say its not possible. They offered to buy the phone back off me for a 3rd less than I bought it for but I don't think this is right. I believe its the shops responsibility to seek compensation from Nokia.
Are there any downloads that rectify this problem?
    Many thanks

I'm not sure. The phone is at the shop right now. Is there any way of finding out from the box? Pardon my ignorance.

I dont think you can find the version from the box. But when you get the phone back just press ( *#0000# ) on the main screen.

  • My iPad mini keeps turning itself off and then the apple logo keeps flashing constantly, i have charged it fully and restored it many times. what can i do?

My iPad mini keeps turning itself off and then the apple logo keeps flashing constantly, i have charged it fully and restored it many times. what can i do?

If you have restored to factory settings and started as new, there is nothing more that you can do on your own. Make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask them for help. You might have a hardware problem and the Apple Store techs will be able to determine that.

  • When I turn my ipod on why does the screen stay blank and then turn itself off?

When I turn my ipod on the normal start up screen appears with the apple logo in the middle, but then after a few seconds the screen goes blank and it turns itself off. It was working fine the other day. I even charged it overnight to make sure that it wasnt because it was out of battery. I dont know what to do, it has over 600 songs on it and around 300 photos, I know that the memory isnt full because I checked the other day and it said I had around 1GB left. I cant do anything on at all because the screen just goes blank and then turns itself off. Please help, thank you

Well, I strongly suspect that a gig isn't quite enough "extra" storage to allow operation.
However, first, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • My iPhone 4S keeps turning itself off when I still have battery life and then it doesn't charge?

It's only just started doing this and it's really annoying me now!! Ha
I'll charge my phone up overnight then a couple of hours into the next day the battery wil be down to about 20% then it will say I only have 10% left even though I will have 20% if you see what I mean? And then to top it off it turns itself off and won't let me recharge!!
It did happen to my iPad the other week but that seems to be fine now.
I've tried changing and checking chargers etc but they seem to work it other people's and my iPad seems fine now

    Hi there glee154!
I have an article here that can help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPhone. The article is about troubleshooting a multitude of iPhone hardware issues, and can be found right here:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
The specific section you will want to reference can be found here:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

ys can you help me, i have problem regarding on syncing of my apps in my ipad it usually stops on step 4 saying determining apps to sync then its stop... can anyone have an idea..i already reset the setting of my ipad

    Hello Violet03,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I would recommend a few things here. If you havent already restart both your computer, and the iPad.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesnt work then close all the apps that are running on the iPad with this process:
From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.
Tap and hold on the app.
When it starts to jiggle, tap the to close it.
Double-click the Home button and try opening the app again.
From: iOS: Force an app to close
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
And if the issue persists it might be a good idea to backup and restore your iPad in iTunes with this article.
