Try doing a hard reboot

OK if I understand whats going on.
You have to restore your ipad.
If you backed it up prior to this problem you may not loose everything.
I can tell you how to restore it.
Hold the on/off button and the home button at the same time until the device turns off.
Once the device has turned off without letting go of the home button release the power button and keep holding until the connect to itunes logo appears.
It should be rather obvious now that you have to connect your iPad to the computer.
iTunes on your computer should open automatically if it doesn't open it.
on the side bar of iTunes your ipad should appear.
Click on it.
Then in the centre of the window there should be a restore and/or restore and update button.
Click restore.
the rest of the instructions should appear on the screen.
Assuming the restore was successful.
Leave the iPad plugged in and If you backed up the iPad before it stopped working then you should see a restore from back up there if not you may have to start from scratch.

My face time icon has disappeared from my iPad air

Hello all...
I don't know what I've done but the FaceTime icon has disappeared...haven't a clue why or how to get it back. I hadn't tried using FaceTime yet by the way, I am new to apple products (but learning fast) but I was looking forward to using it.
I have however used the iMessage function which leads me onto the second part of my question, which is, ........ Why can I only send messages to certain people in my contacts lists? ( I do realise they have to have apple products)
Any help... Especially for the face time query... Will be much appreciated.

The home button is the main button off the screen - where is the sleep button? When I hit home I only see the lock slider (its black) and a button that has a flower on it that pulls up photos we took that are on the ipad. Thanks for your help!

In addition to the previous answer, if Settings > General > Use Side Switch To is set to mute notifications, then rotation lock will be set via the taskbar (double-click the home button, slide the taskbar to the right, and it's the icon far left). Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If so, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. If you have the newer ipad just swipe up on the home screen and the shrotcuts will come up and there will be a symbol for screen rotation lock (make sure its off)

You have the lock icon towards the top right of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If you do then which iPad do you have ? If it's not the iPad Air 2 then you should have a Settings > General > Use Side Switch To option which controls what the switch on the side of the iPad, above the volume control does - if that is set to 'Lock Rotation' then you use that switch on the side to turn rotation on/off

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.

And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

Try closing all open applications in multitasking and power cycling the device. Once this is done test the results. If the issue persists, I have included a couple troubleshooting articles that I would recommend going through.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions
