IPad 1 locked on apple logo screen

Hi can anyone help me.
I have an iPad first gen which has decided to lock up.
Came to switch it on and it went to the apple logo screen, as if doing a soft reset. It stays in that screen but does not progress. After about 30 seconds it switches off and restarts with the apple logo again. It continues doing this until it runs out of battery.
I can't switch it off.
Holding the sleep and home buttons does enable the iTunes restore screen
However Have tried a restore iPad from iTunes several times and keeps coming back with the error message can't find iPad. Have tried numerous cables and all the USB slots on my PC, but nothing has worked.
Is this terminal?

Hello fyldewood,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Since you need to restore the iPad to its factory settings using iTunes, but the iPad is not being recognized in iTunes, please follow the instructions in the article linked to below to get your iPad appearing in iTunes.

Try a Restore but force the iPad into Recovery Mode first.
Doing that involves restarting the iPad, holding the Home Button, and connecting it to iTunes.  Holding the Home Button is the trick.  Here's an article explaining how to do it.

If Force Restarting and Force Restoring doesn't work, it may be time to look up warranty information.

  • My ipad froze on the apple logo screen after installing ios8  what do i dd?

my ipad froze in the apple logo restart screen when I tried to install ios8.  it wont do anything.  please help!

Try a reset.  Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • My Ipad has locked with Itunes logo and cable displayed on a black screen.    Cant do anything

My Ipad has locked on a black screen with only the Itunes music logo together  with an arrow and a cable white photo display.    Turning it on and off achieves nothing, only the Itunes circle and cable appear each time.     What can I do to rectify?

I uploaded iOS 7 and the ipad came up with a black screen with pictures of iTunes logo and power cord.  It wouldn't turn off or respond to any actions.  A terrifying moment.  I followed some suggestions from these discussions, connected iPad to Macbook with iTunes open and prayed.  It took 3 separate times to completely reset the iPad, because of several "errors" that would occur throughout the lengthy process.  This necessity to completely reset my iPad (and it is very shakily alive now, I fear) was a direct result of uploading the new OS.  I am furious.  What is going on with Apple?  I see this has happened to people for quite a while now.  Good Lord.

  • Ipad mini cycles from apple logo to start screen and wont stop

Ipad mini cycles from apple logo to start screen and wont stop. Will not shutdown. Cycles every 5-8 seconds. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem.  Since it's the same problem, I thought I'd pigtail on this thread, rather than clutter up the forum with a duplicate.  I can start a new thread if this is not appropriate.
I have tried a reset, using the sleep/wake and home buttons, with no success.  I have also restored to factory settings, then restored to backup.  It's still rebooting itself.

This problem started today.  I updated to 7.1.1 soon after the update was released.

  • IPad won't get off of apple logo screen.

I replaced my iPad yesterday at the apple store and it worked fine. I used it when I got home but this morning when I woke up it crashed and reset out of the app I was using and now only shows the apple logo screen. It turns off after about 20 seconds, goes black and then turns back to the apple logo, over and over. I have reset it and the problem persists. I tried to restore it with my computer on iTunes but it said there was an error even after trying it twice and updating everything on the computer including iTunes.

After trying to resotre it the screen is now stuck in recovery mode.

    Hello samueljacob,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If your iPad isn't booting up completely and is stuck on the Apple logo, then I'd like you to please start with resetting the iPad.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If the issue persists, then please follow the steps outlined below.
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • Ipod 5 stuck on apple logo screen

last night(about 22 hours ago) i tried to update my ipod 5 to ios 8.2 I clicked the install button and then left my ipod on my desk charging. I came back about an hour later and it was stuck on the apple logo screen but with no progress bar. Every minute or so so about 10 minutes it started to glitch out and shut down right when the lock screen would show up. It has been on the apple logo screen since then and i just got back from school to find it stuck. Occasionally it will get a little dimmer, but about a minute later it will be bright again.

  • My Ipod is stuck on the Apple Logo Screen

For some reason, every time I update my Ipod touch it has restarting issues. I got it late December early January, so it's still new. The first time I updated it, it told me I needed to connect to Itunes and that it was in recovery mode and long story short I had to sync it from a computer that was not my own and it took two days for me to get it back up and running. This time, it's stuck on the apple logo screen. I tried turning it off by holding the lock and home button, but it just turned right back on. So then I was hoping that I could plug it into the computer and start it on recovery mode, but it doesn't even show up as being plugged into my computer. So now i'm lost at what to do.

  • My iPhone 4 is stuck on the apple logo screen, help!

I tryed deleting some of my most used apps, and as I was re-installing one it was taking forever so i decided to reset it by holding down the lock and home button at the same time. It's been sitting on the apple logo screen for almost an hour now and plugging it into itunes or plugging it into the charger hasn't done anything for me. I've also tryed restarting it again but it still hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Try restoring. I'm guessing you may have trouble doing this, so see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

    Always "Waiting for Ipad".
On my Ipad, only is there Apple logo.
    What do I do now?

How long has it been displaying the Apple logo? Does it have a progress bar underneath?
If you feel like it's been that way for too long, try putting the iPad in Recovery Mode:
Leave it plugged into the computer. Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the screen goes black and the Apple logo reappears. At that point, release the power button but continue holding the home button until iTunes on your computer says "iTunes has detected a device in Recovery Mode." Then click "Restore" in iTunes.
