IPad 1 : No SIM installed (after iOS5)

It's all in the title.
After I updated to iOS 5, my iPad 1st Gen started to loose the SIM after the code-lock had engaged, but a reboot fixed it.
Since a couple of days (and after an iPad restore, which is indicated in Apple Support as the fix for the most of the problems), it now simply says forever : no sim card installed.
My SIM is from Belgian operator BASE and worked flawlessly until iOS 5.
Of course I tried to clean it, to no avail.
I read in other threads that iPhones 3GS were prone to the same problem oin the same circumstances.
Has anyone the same problem on iPads, and a possible fix ?

Hi Nick,
Was your SIM a microSIM, or a cut-down normal SIM, like I had ?
I went back to the BASE shop, where they exchanged my cut-SIM for a microSIM and it works again.
I assume that iOS5 now reads more of the SIM than iOS 4 did ?
But that doesn't get rid of the message "unable to update the carrier" when checking for iOS updates through iTunes (although in that cas, simply switch cellular data off, and recheck - problem solved, even if not in a scientific way).
Try and get a micro-SIM from Orange, and see if that helps.

IPad2 3G does not recgonize SIM card after ios5 upgrade.

Recenlty upgraded to ios5 on my iPad2 Wifi + 3G. Was working perfectly until the ios5 upgrade. After the upgrade, it no longer recognizes the sim card.
Tried all the following things, but no success -
1. Rebooted the ipad2
2. Replaced with new SIM
3. Did a system restore of the iPad
Contine to get the following message on start up :
No SIM card installed!
Also, top left hand corner shows No SIM instead of 3G.
When I go to the Settings page, Cellular Data section is disabled.
By the way, tried the same SIM card on another iPad which had not upgraded to ios5 and the SIM card worked fine.
Pls help. Really frustrated right now with this ios5 upgrade.

Finally found the solution. New iPad!. The apple authorised service Center replaced my iPad with a new one. Not many questions asked! New one is preloaded with iOS5 and recognizes my SIM card.
Recommend people to do the same (i.e. get a replacement) if you have the same problem as mine. Do remember to backup your stuff before sending in your iPad to the service Center.

Printing from iphone/ipad does not work after ios5 upgrade

have a Brother HL-2140 that would print and show up as the "printer" when printing from an iPhone/iPad thru an Airport Extreme. Everything worked fine till upgrading to ios5 ... now the option for printing is replaced with an "no airprint printer found" ... meanwhile I can still print through the network wirelessly through multiple MacBook Pros and MacBooks around the house. I have re-installed the driver from the Bother website ... I have the Printer Sharing on ... the network allows wireless printing from laptops ... just NOT from iPhones and iPads.

Today's iOS 6.1 update fixed the printer problem.

Sync of iPad (1) to iTunes after iOS5 upgrade, getting "waiting for items to copy" message that hangs sync, lasts forever

I've seen this same problem in other posts, but the solutions seems suspect to me. People are seeing this on both Mac and Windows syncs. The "data" that is being sync'd seems to change for each person, and in fact is different each time I try. Sometimes it is "data" that is being sync'd, sometimes it is "Genius Data", sometimes something else. The common problem across platforms is that somewhere in the iPad sync process it gets "stuck" with the message "Waiting for items to copy". In my case, I ran this overnight -- for over 12 hours -- and the problem did not resolve.
Here is my situation: iPad1, just upgraded to iOS5. MacBook Pro just upgraded to 10.7.2. itunes 10.5. When I connect the iPad, iTunes does a synchronization automatically and seems to succeed up to the last step, in my case 8 of 8. Then, it "hangs" during synchronization. Sometimes it says it is Syncing Genius Data, sometimes it says something different. But, it always says "Waiting for items to copy" and then sits forever.
To terminate this I just eject the iPad and things seem to be working okay, but it is troublesome that the sync does not complete normally.

Help! I downloaded ios 5. Now during the install on my first gen ipad 3g64, it will not get past the updating firmware. Gives error. Have tried at least a dozen times.

Restore from iTune Backup
1. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

I have the same problem. Even worst, I use my iPod touch at the gym cause our bikes and threadmills have iPod connection (and screen of course) so I used watch TV shows from my iPad. Last week, thought the treadmill connector on the machine was broken... from what I see, it's the TV out on the iPad that is not working anymore.
Once home, I used my composite cable, well just like you got a message : "not supported" tried on iPad and Ipod Touch.

When I restart my iPad the connect to iTunes comes up and stays on until it shuts down again, I have read a report from Apple support suggesting I reinstall iTunes so I might try that again and also your suggestion which i shall also try, but thanks again - rg1547

IOS 8.02 update cause iPad Air to auto reboot while playing games and always 'No Sim installed' appears

I have updated my iPad 3 and iPad air to the latest update iOS 8.02 sinice a week ago. The iPad 3 is okay while the ipad air is having problems. Firstly it randomly auto reboots and apps auto shuts as well. Secondly the 'No Sim installed' always appears while using the iPad. Anyone having the same problem please advise how to solve these problems. Thanks.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight. Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger. Do NOT use a computer's USB port. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know. If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.

Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

You may encounter the following symptoms while updating or restoring your iPad:
iPad continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
An update or restore did not complete and the iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes.
iPad stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If this occurs, you can place iPad into recovery mode and attempt to restore again. If iTunes displayed an alert with an error code, see this article before attempting the steps outlined here.

Failed to install after down loading update to ipad 2

Took about 3 hours downloading OS6.1 to IPAD 2 started install then just stopped. Update was never installed. Had closed all PC security and hard wired laptop directly into router before starting update from ITUNES.. Any one having same trouble?

Unless you are using a dailup internet connection, 3 hours to download should be an alert that something is wrong and this may not come out well.
I suggest downloading the update directly from Apple and then after it is on your computer use itunes to update the iPad.
