IPad 1: No sync, then ok, now not...

Like many a past query, I've iPad sync problems which are driving me insane,
Have acquired a 16gb iPad WiFi on Friday and first attempt at a sync failes. iPad 'not charging' via USB or seen in iTunes.
Downloaded newer version and voila....happily connected ans sync'd friday night.
Yesterday however, back to square 1 – no sync.
System profiler sees the iPad as a USB device, so know its not any cable or port issues, so its a software hitch.
Reinstalled iTunes from the diskimage i still had - no joy. Updated to OS 10.6.7, with no joy eiher. Repaired permissions several times before and during software updates - no joy.
Whats left to try??

Amswered by a unusual file called com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig, which is discussed in another tech article, removed, restarted, voila!
OMG! Success
Anyone care to tell me what this file actually 'does'?

If you're running Windows, close iTunes, right-click on the iTunes icon and choose Run as Administrator, then try syncing again.

If you haven't changed your sync preferences, meaning that you are not trying to add more content from the last time that you synced with iTunes, try quitting iTunes, restart your computer and then try again.
If you are trying to add more content to the iPad than what you had before, you can only use so much of the available storage capacity that is left on the device. You probably need to leave about 10% of the space free so if you have a 16GB iPad, you might not have enough space left to sync that content that you are trying to sync.

  • The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 2.53 GB required).

I purchased some children's books from iTunes on my Mac computer and then tried to sync to my iPad and received the note that " The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 2.53 GB required)."
I do not know what steps to take to be able to free up space so I can sync these e-books to my iPad.  I do not know how to find the iTunes library on the iPad to identify what I would need to delete.
    Thanks for your guidance.

How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes librar

    Hi,
I know similar cases were posted here but I did not find something that matched my case:
Here is the message I got:
The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (1 MB required, 4.29 GB available).
Obviously I have 1M space if I have 4.29GB of space.
I do not have any music or photos
I just updated the current apps I have and did an synced several new apps with a total of about 500M (which is far less then the free ~4GB I have)
Any ideas how to solve this?
    Thank you

You have seem similar instances of this, but have you tried anything suggested in those discussions?  I would quit ITunes, reboot your computer, reset the iPad and then try again. I would also close all apps on the iPad before resetting the device. When you try the sync again, use a different USB port on your computer.
I Know this seems to be an no brainer, but make sure that you didn't accidentally select more content to sync than the iPad can hold
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
In order to reset your iPad, hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen after which time you can release the buttons and let the iPad start up.

  • How to sync apps to iPad which is synced by another computer( not mine) without losing the last apps on the iPad

How to sync apps to iPad which is synced by another computer( not mine) without losing the last apps on the iPad

When you plug in the iPad iTunes will want to restore it/wipe it, so if you do not have the apps in your iTunes then you can copy the apps from the iPad to iTunes when plugged in by right clicking the iPad and selecting "transfer purchased..." which copies the purchases into iTunes.
However as iTunes will only sync to 1 iTunes, it will then want to wipe your iPad, so you need to make sure you have everything in your iTunes that you want back on your iPad.
This is to stop people taking their iOS device to a friends and then taking their paid songs/video/apps.
If you still do not have all of the apps in iTunes, you can either download the Apps via the iTunes store or try and find an application that lets you sync from the computer to the iPad and via versa in place of iTunes.

  • Advice on how to access photos on an iPad that were synced from a now failed laptop? The question stems from a need to return my current iPad having just taken delivery of a new unit. Thanks

I am after some advice on how to access photos on an iPad that were synced from a now failed laptop? The question stems from a need to return my current iPad having just taken delivery of a new unit. Thanks

If you have a dropbox account, there's a free app (probably more) that syncs photos to your dropbox account - picbox.
There's also PhotoSync that syncs photos to/from a number of different services and devices.

  • Pocketmac worked, tried media sync then uninstalled, now pocketmac does not work

hi, i cannot get pocketmac to locate the storm. it worked fine before trying media sync (cal, tasks, mp3, pics, etc. all worked). so i'm back to square one.
i uninstalled media sync and have now reinstalled pocketmac along with the update. i was hesitant to download media sync, but wanted to give it a try to see what it will look like later...of course, i don't know what i was thinking. i must have been lucky to have a bberry sync'd mac.
    any advice?
    thanks.
    - sal

Installed media sync and saw that it doesnt work with pocket mac or any other syncing. Uninstalled it. Uninstalled pocket mac (how to is below). I cant believe how much that download screwed my BB Bold up. Not reading media card now either!!! HELP!!!!It worked fine before that!
To completely uninstall PocketMac for BlackBerry smartphones, complete the following steps:
       1. Log in to the Apple Macintosh computer with an account that has administrator-level permissions.
       2. Open the hard drive icon on the computer.
       3. From the left menu bar, select Applications, and then open PocketMac Sync Manager.
       4. Click Uninstall PocketMac.
       5. When prompted to continue uninstalling PocketMac, click Yes.
       6. When the uninstall process is complete, click Quit.
       7. Open the hard drive icon on the computer.
       8. Select the Users folder. The current user is indicated by the Home icon.
       9. Click the Home icon to continue.
      10. Open the Library folder, and then open the Preferences folder.
      11. Delete the PocketMacBlackberry.plist file.
      12. Delete the PocketMacAdvancedPreferenceData.plist file.
      13. Delete the PocketMacSyncManager.plist file.
      14. Open the Library folder, and then open the Application Support folder.
      15. Delete the PocketMac and PocketMacSyncManager folders.
      16. Empty the Trash from the Dock by right-clicking and selecting Empty Trash.
      17. Restart the Apple Macintosh computer.
However, there is one step missing from this list, and do this before connecting your Curve to your Mac: (this step is necessary)
go to : Macintosh HD/system/library/extensions and delete the 2 Blackberry files with the .kext extension, empty your "Trash" folder and do one more restart.
Now you get to have the fun of re-installing the software again. And just to hit the extreme basics (sorry if  is offended):
    1) Disconnect your Curve
    2) Install Desktop Software, restart
    3) Install Driver Update, restart
    4) With phone still disconnected, start software and set up your configurations, iCal, Contacts and so on
    5) Connect phone and sync.

I need some help syncing my iPad.  I get a message about not having enough privileges for this operation.  Any help would be appreciated.

It means you are using windows and the user agent stuff is messed up.
Try looking at permissions on the drive iTunes library is on.

  • Having problem with iPad sync getting pop up message as below. The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough space to hold all of the items in the iTues library (additional 10.03 GB required).  There is enogh space be it in PC or on iPad.

Having problem with i Pad sync getting pop up message as below. The i Pad cannot be synced because there is not enough space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 10.03 GB required).  There is enough space be it in PC or on i Pad. Why and What can be done to resolve, please advice appreciate. Thanks

It generally means - just using random numbers for examples - the iTunes on your computer holds 45 gig of content, you have a 16 gig iPad which has 13 gig of free space and the content just won't fit.
Easy solutions. go into iTunes and 'manually manage' your content. I believe this is in the main summary tab for your device (connect your device, click on the icon in iTunes to access controls for your iPad
You may also need to choose to manually control content in both the music and movie tabs.
    Apple - Support - Manuals
the manual will have more specific info for syncing and controlling content
