Ipad 1 - Not Charging

I have the original IPAD. It has barely been used since bought. Maybe charged 15 times. Battery life is still very good on it. But for some reason, I haven't been able to charge it. I can plug it in, and the Apple Symbol comes up, but then it only charges till 2-5% and then proceeds to say NOT CHARGING. I use an iPad charger and it still won't work. This has happened to me before, but if i plugged it into a regular iPhone charger, it would charge. This is not the case now, no matter what  i plug it into, it will not charge. Ipad/Iphone Chargers. Also tried my macbook but still not working. Has anyone had this problem? Is there anything i can do?
Hope to hear back, thanks!

First check if your charger is the problem.
Try charging your ipad on your computer or use a friends charger.
If you ipad charging then the problem is with your charger.
If not the problem is with your ipad and you should go to an  Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com

    No problems here.
    Edit...
My IOS-7 is on an iPod Touch.

  • "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" Maverick issue!

Ever since we updated to mavericks our deployment of 60 iPad's flashes "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" on the screen every time one is plugged in. It is a false alarm because the iPad does in fact trickle charge and it does update the device like it is supposed to. At this point it's more of an annoyance then an actual problem. However I would like it to stop popping up every time one is plugged in.
Does anybody have any ideas to stop it?

Your computer USB port typically provides only 2.5W of power. iPads require 10-12W of charging power. That's why you get the "Not Charging" message. However, the iPad is charging, but much slower. There's no way to stop it.

  • IPad not charging any more...?

The last two days i notices my iPad not charging any more. Eventhough when pluging it into the A/C outlet it would show on the small top right icon, that it's charging, but the battery status renmained at 10% or so... now the battery seems totally drained and i can even restart it.
I also tried using my iPhone A/C adaptor as well as directly charging it from my notebook USB... nothing...death...
Any one knows what to do?
    thx guyy.

Turn your iPad all the way off. Then plug it into the A/C outlet with the adaptor that came with your iPad. Since your battery level is so low, it may take a while for it to have enough juice to power on. Your notebook USB and iPhone charger probably don't have enough power to charge the iPad. Don't use them in the future for charging.

  • Has anyone ever experienced the situation where plugging in the USB connector to the charging source (high-power USB port or Apple charger) halfway, then pressing it in firmly, results in the iPad not charging?

It's highly likely that there is a poor connection in the phone - either a pin in the dock connector or internal wiring harness.  No software fixes or "tricks" would work, but I would recommend restoring in iTunes, first using a backup and if needed restore as a new phone.
Otherwise, opening and repairing the phone takes some tech knowledge that can't be relayed here.  Apple doesn't repair phones other than replacing batteries (not inconceivable that you have a bad battery), but offers "out-of-warranty" replacement (refurb) phones for $149 (US).  3rd party iPhone repair centers may be able to fix it for less.  Google to find them,
    Tried soft and hard resets
FYI, there's no such thing as "soft" or "hard" resets in iPhone terminology.  There is only one phone reset. You'll see those terms thrown around by technically ignorant posters, but they mean different things to different people and are actually archaic, 1980s PC terms that have nothing to do with iPhones.

  • HELP ipad not charging or connecting to pc

ipad 1 doesnt charge unless it is turned off fully it does not say anything on the batery sign i want to restore it but i can cause it doesnt show up on the pc or laptop

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPad Not Charging w/ 10 watt non-Apple USB charger

Yes, I've read that the iPad requires a 10 watt charger.  I have the original iPad 10W USB charger, and also a high quality 10W USB charger that came with my HP TouchPad. When using the TouchPad charger - which is rated for 5V @ 2A (10W) the iPad says "Not Charging."
Why is that?  The TouchPad charger works perfectly with every other USB-powered device I own: hard drives, cameras, phones, TouchPad, etc. The cable works fine with the Apple OEM iPad charger; but stops working when connected to the non-Apple-OEM 10 watt charger.  Does the OEM charger send a signal  that tells the iPad to charge?  Dell power adapters do this (annoyingly).  Does Apple do it too?  I haven't seen any disclosure of such signals from Apple.
Why does the iPad fail to charge when presented with the proper voltage and current specs?  Does the iPad require only Apple-branded chargers?

Bsanders, I've had the EXACT same experience you describe using as you note a very high quality HP Touchpad 10W, 5V USB charger, whether I use the Apple or a 3rd party cable.  Despite what Nathan says, I have also had the same experience ("Not Charging" message) using other 3rd party, same voltage if lower wattage, USB chargers that Nathan suggests should work.  Only my Apple charger will work and give a prompt charge and there is no specification reason the 10W HP USB charger shouldn't.  I am not cutting a cost corner here, rather, I prefer the HP charger design as superior (smaller, same power, smaller interchangeable/twist-on international supply prongs, packs better, black color).  I strongly suspect there IS some type of proprietary signal or cabling involved to push users to Apple chargers only.  I would ask Nathan to dig a bit deeper for an explanation or workaround.   Thanks

  • IPad not charging or displaying on iTunes

I have had my iPad aroun 5 months now & about 3 weeks ago I plugged it in to charge (plugged into the mains) & it said Not Charging, so it clearly recognises it's plugged in, & then today I updated iTunes & went 2 sync my iPad & iTunes or my PC won't display it. It still says not charging when plugged into the mains after I tried it with iTunes. Do I need to get a new charger or go to an Apple store. Before anyone says reboot it or reset it I have already tried that.                                                                        Thank you

So you are saying that you went weeks in between battery charges on your iPad? Maybe I am misreading your post but if I'm reading correctly, you may just have a really dead battery. The first thing I would suggest is to plug the device back into the mains and leave it plugged in for at least 30-45 minutes and then see if you still get the not charging message.
If you still get "not charging" maybe you could try a different cable with the power adapter or borrow another power adapter and/or cable to see if your power adapter and/or cable is causing the problem. If you do this and still have no success, I would contact Apple, go to an Apple Store or take it back to wherever you bought it and get a replacement.

  • IPad not charging nor syncing

My iPad stop charging today and I don't know why. It's not my plug or cord because it charges my iPad. I've even tried turning it off and resetting it but it still won't charge. What wrong with it? When I plug it to the computer it doesn't get detected for sync or anything. It doesn't charge plugged to the wall or computer. Whats wrong?

Try a different cord just to rule that out. Then I'd take it to an Apple store and have them look at it. I had the USB port on my iPad go bad on me, so it does happen.
Before you take it in make sure you e-mail off anything you can't stand ot lose.

  • HT4623 ipad not charging

I have bought a used ipad and it is saying not charging when plugged into computer

That's normal behavior. The iPad is really not meant to be charged from the USB port on your computer. In your case, the port does not supply enough power. Use the power adapter and plug it into a wall socket as it is really designed to charge.

  • Why are my iPads not charging?

Between my wife and myself we have 4 iPads (two are minis) and over the last few months they have all started displaying the "not charging" flag up by the battery icon.  They will charge fine when turned off (although I have no idea if the rate of charge is standard in that case).  I am using all 2.1A chargers so I assume that the potential is there (haven't really measured them), and have probabl changed out most of the cables to non-Apple cords (I can't tell them apart in most cases).  I am suspicious of two things: iOS updates that have had some charging effect, and the use of non-Apple cords.
I've tried the reset as described in other posts related to this condition, but without success.
Is there something that I should know?

Thanks for your attempted help guys, but it has not been fruitful.  I will take a couple of my chargers, cords and iPads to the local store and see if they can (1) tell me why the iPads aren't charging, (2) how to differentiate Apple chargers from non-Apple chargers and (3) help me replace whatever I need to replace.  What I know is that in the future, whenever I pull a charger out of an Apple box (purchased from Apple), I'm going to mark it with a big permanent "A" on the side, because all my chargers are identical, but I'm pretty sure that some were purchased off-market.
    I'll publish what I learn.

  • HT201210 Ipad not charging or updating

My ipad won't charge when plugged into the wall and is only on 1% battery. It says it is due for a software update but the battery dies even when plugged in when it is almost updated, any ideas how to get past this?

  • IPad not charging through USB

Just got an iPad. When using USB cord to connect to computer, iPad charging indicator says "not charging". iTunes synchs fine. When I use wall outlet to charge all OK. Any ideas why not charging through ANY USB port on my laptop? Thank you,
    Chris

Leave it plugged in after you complete the sync, let it go to sleep (lock) and the charging rate will increase and you'll get a charging indication.
The charger provided with your iPad can put out up to 2A of charging current. The best you're going to see from a USB port is somewhere around 500mA, that only from high-power ports and can be less depending on the computer. Seeing the "Not Charging" while syncing is perfectly normal.
