No it wasn't that. It was the lack of a camera. No devices without camera were allowed by Apple to update to ios 6. This included the ipad 1st gen and the ipod touch 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen. In case some of you wondered, that's why the iphone 3GS still got the ios 6 update despite having an older processor than the ipad 1 and the same 256 MB in RAM as the ipad 1: the 3GS had a back camera.
As for ios 7, the RAM and processor were indeed a requirement. No devices with less than 512 MB RAM were allowed to get ios 7. This included all iphones up to the 3GS, all ipod touch generations except the latest, and the ipad 1st gen.

I'm asking why the iPad is so cool??
1.BATTERY.
2.3G always with you.
3.Mobility.
4.Loud spiker.
Sow I recently updated and it looks like the battery lasts only 4 hours.
Apple need to update the battery time of 10 h to 4!!
3G right? 7.2 MB/sec?? I tested my network speed on 3G 5 bars with "speed test" app for iphone, it resoult that the downloading speed is only 1MB/sec.
Faster is the public network of my city that I thinked that is very slow!
No battery no mobility!
On the old spiker I could listen the music in my room and in the entaery room the sound was loud! Now with 4.2 the spiker of my iPhone is louder then my ipad!!
I spend 700€ for what?
I want downgrade! Ok, the multitasking is great but for me the most important "why buy an iPad" is the battery!
Whay is it doing that with the internet speed??
Why my battery lasts 60% less??
Why my spiker is 50% lower sound??
Apple need to do new update to fix that, if this is the price to have multitasking, I want downgrade!

-to solve tge battery draining problem make sure you have no running apps in multitasking bar, when clicking home button twice you will see apps you have opened down there , keep your finger pressed on any of them for 3 seconds you'll see them "dancing" with a small minus code up in the left, just click the minus to exit the apps, plus switch off wifi/bluetooth/3G when you're not using the ipad to save battery from draining, that should fix the thing, i suppose.
Another thing, iOs 4.2 came with a badly slow internet and contains several bugs that making some app crashing and damaging colors of some of the apps, for example "run fast" app colors are horribly damaged.
4.2 has nothing special for me except multitasking, which is i dont call it a real multitasking, and whats making thinga worse Apple doesnt provide any official steps to downgrade their obvious "terrible" 4.2 ios, which is totally annoying.

If you have an iPad 1, the highest you can go is 5.1.1.

When you reset to factory settings, did you restore as new or did you restore from a backup? If you restored from a backup, you could try restoring as new and don't use the backup. If you do that, you will lose all of your data, but you can download or sync all of your content back to the iPad.
You could also try resetting all settings before your restore as new. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. You will have to re enter all device settings again.
And of course the possibility does exist that the iPad has developed a hardware problem that is causing the rotation issue and only a visit to an Apple Store could determine that for sure.

The choices were either yes or cancel. I touched yes. Whenever I try to download an ibook, I get a message that it requires ios 5 to download book. And, my former downloaded ibooks are gone.

Plug your pad 1 into your computer running the current version of I tunes, then select software upgrade. It will move your pad to its 5.1.
Make sure you transfer purchases, upload photos and make a copy of any important documents and spreadsheets in case something goes wonky.

The original iPad cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1. It simply doesn't have the hardware. There are still lots of apps in the App Store that will run on iOS 5.1.1.
You can also try downloading the apps he's interested in to iTunes on your computer. Then, go back and try to download them on the iPad. If the developer makes an older version of the software available, you'll be given the option to download that. Note that not all developers continue to offer older versions.

Wifi problems on iPad 2 after upgrading to iOS 5.1.1

I upgraded my iPad to iOS 5.1.1 last night. Ever since then, it keeps losing the wifi connection. My laptop, ipod and iphone are not losing any connectivity with the wifi, nor has this been a problem with the iPad prior to upgrading the iOS.
Has anyone else had this problem

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Not upgrading to IOS.5?

I use my iPad 2 only for some apps and searching the web. Is there a lot I would be missing from not upgrading to IOS.5? I didn't know if a lot of new apps that come out may not be compatible twith IOS 4.3.

The versions of Apple's Pages, Keynote, and Numbers apps that are in the store have already been updated to need iOS 5, as have some other apps (e.g. so that they can use iCloud). Over time more apps will also get updated and will probably need iOS 5. But you don't have to upgrade either now or later, the choice is yours.
The features that are in iOS 5 are listed on this page and the links from it : http://www.apple.com/ios/ - have a look through them and see if there is anything on there that you'd like.

I can not upgrade the iOS on my phone, nor sync the phone because the process starts with backing up the phone which always hangs up at the backing up stage and then will not allow further progress.

And for this I guess that it is the backing up of my Podcasts - which are free downloads that causes the hang up. These are items that I have played and synced before without issues. I am thinking this way because these are Podcasts that I used to play but sundenly would not play on my iPhone. Each time I try to play anyone of them it generates the message - this movie could not be played.
I am scared of atempting a system restore because I guess I may lose my SMS for the past two months. Please approach the solution from this point of view.

When I now try to update the software via my phone it is saying I need 2.5GB of storage to download software but the additional storage is showing on iCloud.
To download the software on your iPhone, which is not related to your iCloud storage capacity. This has to do with the amount of free storage space on your iPhone.
You need to free up some storage space on your iPhone. If you have any movies or TV shows avaialble on your iPhone, the fastest way to free up some storage space is by deleting a movie or two and the same for TV shows, and/or remove some music, and/or some apps that you rarely if every use. After iOS 6 is installed, you can re-transfer the movies or TV shows, or music and apps.
