Ipad 1 to Ipad 3. Best way to restore. the facts

Fastest way to restore from #ipad backup is still desktop as long as nothing else is running. Make sure as much cpu time is as free as can
Best way to ensure cpu time free for back restore #ipad is to make sure close as many browser tabs as possible. If not keep browser closed.
iCloud Restore mythology
Myth: iCloud restore more reliable than itunes restore. This is is simply wrong. States most reliable way to backup & restore an #ipad is via the cloud. More later. http://techglobex.blogspot.com/2012/04/transfer-and-exchange-old-ipad-data.html …
Myth; Pressing apps restarts icloud download. Not exactly. Pressing on apps during icloud restore only speeds up those apps being downloaded ahead of everything else per apple. #ipad #icloud
Myth:My ipad icloud restore is very slow, something is wrong,  and Apple doesnt know. Wrong Apple knows "1-4 gigs/hr"
The proof of the slow restores https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3811611?start=0&tstart=0 … in other words #icloud #ipad doing exactly what expected.             If you read between the lines any #icloud restore of #ipad with 10-40 gigs is going to take days. Guess what. that's what's been reported.
"... even with  fast ... connection, often take around 1-4 hours per gigabyte to complete a ...restore" http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036 . #icloud #ipad
The purpose of the restore is one the road to get a as much of settings running as possible and allowing you to select what comes first. its not  for rapid total restore of lots of gigs.

  • IPad as "best way to browse the web"? Come on, Apple...

We're loyal buyers, so at least be honest with us. You can't seriously make the claim that the iPad will be the "best way to browse the web" and keep a straight face. Yes, here it is again: the "no Flash" complaint. Flash is not a luxury trimming on a few specialized sites, it is INTEGRAL to the web. For you to deny it to your users is atrocious.
Not only do we have to pay another data fee to AT&T for the 3G version, but for this expense we get NO flash features. That's crap, I have to say it.
And on problems like lack of USB...if you want to claim that the iPad will be the "best way to manage photos," then you need to explain how one gets the photos from our digital camera to the iPad in the first place. We ALL know the answer: we'll need another computer as an intermediary. So much for the logic of a compact, self-contained pad system! You just rendered vacationing with the iPad and a camera null.
I'm really upset you would produce such a crippled product and tell us how "cool" it is.

I'm really upset you would produce such a crippled product and tell us how "cool" it is.
I don't understand what all of the complaining is about, quite frankly. It will have the same utility value as an iPhone/iTouch (without the phone part) except that it will have a significantly larger screen and newer hardware. If you already use an iPhone or iTouch you already know how to survive without Flash.
Flash is not the be all, end all or do all of the iPad. Quite frankly, I have no sympathy for a company that has outsourced its entire operation to India and whose end-user support is the worst I've ever experienced. I'm talking about you, Adobe.
No Flash. No big deal. Get on with your lives.

  • What is the best way to restore the entire contents of Mac HD?

After installing Snow Leopard my iMovie 6 project went haywire. As I found that others had the same problem, I backed up Mac HD with TM, and then re-installed Leopard using the erase procedure. After that I couldn't access my TM backups via TM, so I copied it to the Mac HD folder. This didn't work out too well, as I had to manually restore various applications and libraries. I then found out you can access the backups via TM by pressing Control, click. So I deleted almost all the files I copied and I'm ready to re-install the entire folder Mac HD via TM. Now it asks me for a folder's name or to create a new folder. I can restore it to the existing Mac HD folder, as a separate folder within it, but then it will be like the previous attempt I made to copy it. What is the best way to do it? Should I create a new Mac HD folder and try to delete the one that came with Leopard? Can it be done like that? Any help will be appreciated.

I posted my question prematurely. I should have read the manual first. I did contact Apple Support, and they walked me through the restore process - it's so simple if you know what you are doing that it is embarrassing. I just didn't know where the Utilities section was - it was right there in the top bar. So now I have my computer the way I like it. I guess Snow Leopard is not for me until they fix iMovie 6.

  • Best way to restore machine?

I had an iMac drive become un-repairable. I was able to mount it and make a bootable copy with super duper. My question is which is the best way to restore the iMac drive. Should I just have super duper make a bootable copy back on the iMac drive or should I do a clean install of 10.5 then use the migration assistant to restore applications and documents.... any information would be great, first time I have ever had to do this to any of my machines.
    Bob

I assume that you have tested the clone & it has inherited no problems from the un-repairable iMac drive. If this is not true, first boot from your Installer DVD & run its copy of Disk Utility (found under the Utilities menu). Select the clone drive (not the partition indented under it) in the list at the left of Disk Utility's First Aid tab & click "Repair disk." If that shows no problems, or is able to fix any it finds, then re-cloning the clone back to your iMac's drive should be fine; otherwise do a fresh install of the OS onto the iMac drive.
I am assuming here that you have only one visible partition currently on the iMac drive, that being the HFS+ volume containing the Leopard installation that you normally boot from. (IOW, you don't have a Boot Camp partition or other volumes on the drive used for data storage.) If this is not true, please say so because the following will render any data currently on any partition of the iMac drive unrecoverable by normal means!
Prior to restoring the clone to the iMac drive, it is a good idea to reformat it. This is because the drive may have problems in the partition scheme information that defines volumes & other partitions on it. Just erasing or overwriting a volume does not touch this information. Formatting the drive rewrites this information as well as erasing & recreating the directory structures that define each volume. (A normal erase of a volume just replaces its directory structures with new, empty ones. It does not actually erase the files listed in the old directory. In general, it is not necessary to do a secure erase of a volume, which does overwrite the files, unless you are selling the iMac.)
To reformat the drive, boot from another source, such as the working & tested clone or your installer DVD, & run Disk Utility. Select the iMac drive from the list (again being careful not to select a partition indented under it) & click the "Partition" tab. Select the number of partitions you want from the popup (most people need only one), then click the "Options..." button & make sure the partition scheme is GUID Partition Table (assuming your iMac is an Intel-based one) or the Apple Partition Map (if you have a PPC iMac). For an internal drive the correct scheme should already be selected -- this is just a check to make sure it is.
Once everything is set as you want, click the "Apply" button & confirm this in the 'Are you sure?' dialog. Formatting is quick, typically taking much less than a minute, & assures that the partition scheme, volume info, & file system(s) are fresh & free of any prior corruption.

  • Is there a way to restore the All Contacts app on my iPad 1.  it seems  the data and cannot turn a page or add more contacts

Is there a way to restore the All Contacts app on my gen 1 ipad?  I seem to have lost the data and can't turn a page or add new contacts.  I did try to reload the contacts (and I guess everything else) from my itunes computer backup but nothing happens to the All Contacts app. everything else seems to work fine on the ipad so I'm not sure what happened to the data or why.  not sure i want to try and reset the whole ipad just for this one little app or feature...thanks in advance to any replies.

Sorry, had to sep out.  I see the contacts "page" but I can't use the letters on the left margin or a finger touch to change location.  Nor does anything happen when I touch the plus sign to allow me to add a new contact.  So maybe he actual old contact data is still there I just can't get to it.  Rick

  • Best way to restore to factory settings?

    Hello.
I want to restore my iPad to as though I'd never used it before. Which is the best way to do it? Erase content and reset settings through the iPad itself, or do a restore through iTunes?
Also, the iOS restore file (from a previous restore) is already stored on my computer. It was downloaded whilst I was still on Lion. I recently performed the upgrade to Mountain Lion, so I'm wondering if that restore file is still safe to use to restore my iPad, considering it's been on my computer while a new OS has been installed over it? It wouldn't be damaged or corrupted, would it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Gareth,
I personally think the best way is via the iPad itself. It's exactly the same result.
With regards to the second point, do you want to restore some of your content or leave it as a fresh install? You can transfer the photos and apps to your computer prior to the erase and simply sync the ones you need back over.
As for the corrupted restore, there is nothing to suggest this would change following an upgrade, although I may be wrong.
    Hope that helps.

  • I lost my MacBook calendar when I performed the action required by 5 May although I have all information on my iPhone and iPad. How do I restore the data on my iCal calendar?

I have performed all the relevant actions required before 5 May to conform with Apple instructions. I have lost my calendar on my MacBook although all is still OK on my iPhone and iPad. I have tried various ways to restore the data including going to MobileMe but I have been unsuccessful. I have tried to merge the information from my iPhone but this did not work either. My Contacts and mail are all OK. Coincidentally I am also unable to access my external hard drive which is working in itself (it is warm and whirrs when activated) but my back ups are failing. Any ideas out there?

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

  • What is the best way to mimic the data from production to other server?

    Hi,
here we user streams and advanced replication to send the data for 90% of tables from production to another production database server. if one goes down can use another one. is there any other best option rather using the streams and replication? we are having lot of problems with streams these days they keep break and get calls.
I heard about data guard but dont know what is use of it? please advice the best way to replicate the data.
    Thanks a lot.....

RAC, Data Guard. The first one is active-active, that is, you have two or more nodes accessing the same database on shared storage and you get both HA and load balancing. The second is active-passive (unless you're on 11.2 with Active Standby or Snapshot Standby), that is one database is primary and the other is standby, which you normally cannot query or modify, but to which you can quickly switch in case primary fails. There's also Logical Standby - it's based on Streams and generally looks like what you seem to be using now (sort of.) But it definitely has issues. You can also take a look at GoldenGate or SharePlex.

  • Best Way to port the data from one DB to another DB using Biztalk

    Hi,
please suggest best way to move the data from one db to another DB using biztalk.
Currently I am doing like that, for each transaction(getting from different source tables) through receive port, and do some mapping (some custom logic for data mapping), then insert to target normalized tables(multiple tables) and back to update the status
of transaction in source table in sourceDB. It is processing one by one.
How/best we we can do it using  bulk transfer and update the status. Since it has more than 10000 transaction per call.
    Thanks,
    Vinoth

    Hi Vinoth,
For SQL Bulk inserts you can always use SQL Bulk Load
    adapter.
    http://www.biztalkgurus.com/biztalk_server/biztalk_blogs/b/biztalksyn/archive/2005/10/23/processing-a-large-flat-file-message-with-biztalk-and-the-sqlbulkinsert-adapter.aspx
However, even though a SQL Bulk Load adapter can efficiently insert a large amount of data into SQL you are still stuck with the issues of transmitting the
MessageBox database and the memory issues of dealing with really large messages.
I would personally suggest you to use SSIS, as you have mentioned that records have to be processed in specific time of day as opposed to when the
    records are available.
Please refer to this link to get more information about SSIS: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141026.aspx
If you have any more questions related to SSIS, please ask it in
    SSIS
forum and you will get specific support.

I have a iMac Desktop and MacBook Pro laptop. I generate my work related files on both of these machines. After a few days or weeks, I have new files on some folders on either of the machines that is not on the other machine. What is the best way to keep the files in these machines synchronized?

How did you transfer the files to the iMac.  If you exported the files out of the MB library using Kind = Current you should get the edited version.  Any other  option may not.
If you want to keep the two libraries "synced"  any photos you want to move to the iMac should be added to an album, connect the two Mac with a LAN, Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire, with WiFi. and use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy that album from the MB library to iMac library.  It will also copy the original and edited versions, keywords, titles, etc.
