IPad 1 wifi unable to join networ

My original iPad (iOS 5.0.1) sees the network at work, but gives "unable able to join network" message when I try to connect.  The network is the type that redirects to a page and asks for username and password.
The frustrating piece is that my iPhone running the same iOS connects without a problem as does my MacBook.  When I call AppleCare the tech couldnt find an answer for me.  (a first in my 5 years of using AppleCare)
Unfortunately the network administrator is unwilling to help.
Can anyone help me?

You can reset ipad network.settings ,general, reset, reset network settings

    9. it cant connect to any wifi router however it can only be conected to internet via bluetooth tethering from my phone .
please guide me with your professional opinion . is this some sort of software glitch or hardware problem ? thanks

I don't know if this will work for you but I bought a new iPad Mini 3 this past week and I have Verizon Mifi. My new iPad mini3 would try to connect but couldn't. I went back to Verizon and the tech selected the option "Forget this network." When she did that, my Mifi came up again by itself. My iPad was searching for a connection and my Mifi showed up. After the connection showed up on it's own again, the tech was able to select the network and then selected the option to put in the password and that fixed the problem. I would have never thought selecting "Forget this network" would have worked but it did. I don't know if that will work for you.

iphone 5 wifi unable to join network issue
I am an engineer and I have tried every tweek to my airport router and unles you are standing 10ft from the ruter you get the  unable to join network messsage.
naturally it work fine at the Apple Store who preformed a full reset on the phone. Other people are having this issue same a me and apple chooses not to acknowledge it, Maybe they will when I contact the consumer journalists at CNN ABC CBS & NBC news they love to here about Apple problems remember the Iphone 4 antenna issues!
    APPLE ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION!!!
AT LEAST ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND SAY YOU ARE WORKING ON IT.
    THINKOF IT THIS WAY
PEOPLE ARE GETTING PHONES EXCHANGED OUT AT APPLE STORES AND THE CARRIERS ONLY TO FIND THAT CHANGING THE PHONE DOES NOTHING REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS COSTING YOU MONEY AND WASTING YOUR STORE PERSONNELS TIME TROUBLESHOOTING A PROBLEM THAT ONLY THE HOME OFFICE CAN FIX!

Dear Engineer...Apple does not read these posts.  We are end users just like you

  • Question: New IPad error message "unable to join network" on my home wifi.

Hi. Bought New IPad and used it on commercial wifi spots like Starbucks, no problem. At home my Linksys sees my wifi network but when I enter password I get "unable to join network" error message. My IPad 2 connects as usual. Same password. No problem.
I rebooted router and then turned on New IPad. Same result. I re-set network settings to factory. Still get "unable to join network". Tried entering Security Key instead of password. No go.
    Please help. Thanks.

found answer. Choose "other" network. Put Security Key in box asking for Password.
For me, entered WPA and Name of exisitng network.

  • IPad 2 can't connect to WiFi/unable to join network

The iPad 2 (WiFi only) initially had no problems whatsoever in the first several months after I bought it. Then I didn't use Internet on the iPad for 2-3 months, as there was no WiFi for that time. Now when I try to connect it to my WiFi, it either temporarily connects with a slow, patchy connection (spinning processing symbol on the top left corner) or the "Unable to join network" message pops up. All my other iDevices connect perfectly at a high speed. I have tried the following to no avail:
    Reset network settings
    Reset all settings
    Turned router off/on
    Same room as router
    Forget network
    Turned WiFi settings off/on
    Restored to factory settings 3X
    Changed WiFi password
    Changed WiFi security
    Changed WiFi name

Can't turn off router at the hotel, it hasn't worked at any wifi hotspot. I just never really monkey with it.

  • IOS6 - Wi-Fi on iPad gives error "Unable to join network"

IMPORTANT: This discussion question relates to a specific error affecting iPad users. Please make certain that your comment refers to the same error.
    Problem
Attempting to connect to a home, Wi-Fi network on iPad3 running iOS 6 (64G, Wi-Fi) always returns the error "Unable to join the network "NetworkName" ".
    Background
    - Router is a Netgear WGT624v3, running the latest firmware, with no bells and whistles enabled. Bog-standard wireless. No extended range, no high-speed mode--nothing.
    - Network mode is WPA2-PSK [AES].
    - Prior to the iOS 6 update, my iPad3 connected to my network without any problems.
    - I have reset the router and tried other authentication protocols.
    - I have reset the iPad3. I have restored the iPad. I have reset the iPad's network settings.
    - I have emptied the Safari data, turned off Siri, and disabled location information.
    - I have enabled Auto proxy, used Airplane mode, and disabled 'Ask to join networks'.
    - If it has been suggested on these forums, I have tried it.
    - Nothing so far has fixed this problem. I cannot login to my WiFi at all, not even for a moment.
    - In other words: this is different than the issue some people were having where they could log in, but were kicked off and redirected to an apple login page. I have never been able to login at home. My login is rejected.
    Notes
Using the computer at my university, where we have a Wi-Fi connexion with login page, worked. I typed my password, and Wi-Fi logged on as normal, after which the university login page appeared. It worked fine all afternoon. When I came home, it still did not work with my home network.
    Presumed Cause
The only thing that has changed since the iPad was working is the installation of iOS 6. Therefore, this appears to be an issue with iOS 6.

    Da Brotha,
Your solution does not solve this issue, unfortunately. This is probably because our issue is particular to Netgear routers, and you do not have a Netgear router. Therefore, the problem you were experiencing seems to have been a different issue (though it may have seemed initially similar).
    Capt. Kanuck,
I think you are misunderstanding this issue. This is not an issue of being able to login for a bit, and then not being able to do so later. People affected by this problem cannot login to Wi-Fi at all, ever (not even for a moment), regardless of rebooting the router. It affects several models of Netgear routers.
I've posted over on this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4313126?tstart=0 about this issue in more detail. Apple is now aware of the issue and their engineers are working on it, and I will be updating the thread there as I receive information from their senior technical advisors. I have been promised timely updates on the progress of this issue, including a timeframe if necessary.
Bottom line, though: don't expect it to be fixed tomorrow. Stay tuned, I guess (or, alternately, plump for a new router). Hardly the best possible news, I know.

  • Ipad 2 is unable to join network while other media can

My ipad2 and Apple TV detected the WiFi but are unable to join the network. While my laptop and nokia handphone can connect well. I have done so many things, resetting it number of times, change its name but still not working.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPhone iOS 5 Wifi Unable to Join

Since I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, I have to continually reset my network settings because it will not connect to my wifi anymore. After I reset, it works for about a day and then if I leave and come back, it is no longer able to join the network. Is there any fix to this?

Have you restarted your wifi router, that's usually the problem over here?
When I've had that problem with past iOS's I would enter the Network Wifi settings into Static instead of letting it find the nework with DHCP each time. I haven't had that problem since about iOS 4 though.

  • Can there be a hardware issue on the iPad that causes you to unable to join wifi networks or only if you are within 5 feet of routers?

I used to be able to connect my iPad to my house wifi network walking all over my house then one day it stopped.  When i tried to connect to my network I would get an message saying "Unable to Join network".  I found that if i was within 5 feet of my router it would connect and work just fine.  At the same time I tried it at multiple other networks that I have before (girlfriends and other friends houses) and could not connect with same issue.  Only place I can connect is my work wifi.
Can connect to wifi with my iPhone with no issues
