IPad 1 will not update past iOS 5.1.1, many apps require iOS 6.0 or later. also since updating to 5.1.1 safari frequently crashes.

My IPad 1 will not update past iOS 5.1.1, however many apps require iOS 6.0 or later what can I do?
Also, since updating to 5.1.1 Safari frequently crashes.  Help!!!!!!

5.1.1. is the end of the line for the original iPad. You can't go beyond that. As for the safari crashes, is it tied to specific websites? Have you tried clearing the cache and history?

  • My sons ipad is older and will not upgrade past ios 5.  can someone help me with this?

my sons ipad is older and will not upgrade past iOS 5, therefore he is unable to download certian games.  does anyone have any suggestions or help that they can provide to me regarding this software issue?

The original iPad cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1. It simply doesn't have the hardware. There are still lots of apps in the App Store that will run on iOS 5.1.1.
You can also try downloading the apps he's interested in to iTunes on your computer. Then, go back and try to download them on the iPad. If the developer makes an older version of the software available, you'll be given the option to download that. Note that not all developers continue to offer older versions.
    Best of luck.

my ipad 1 will not upgrade past ios4.2, what can I do?

What computer operating system are you using & what version of iTunes? You have to connect your iPad to your computer to update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next time you can uipdate via wifi.

  • My ipad 2 will not update.

My ipad 2 will not update in the app store.  I have to manually update each app.  It will also not sync to my computer for back up so I am afaid to restore it.  How can I fix this?

There are many posts about this same issue. Apparently there's a problem with the Apple app site. You'll just have to wait and try again later.

Quick update, the duplicate of the comic-con episode downloaded succesfully, and so has the first episode of Supernatural season 8. Blue dots appear to their left in the library.
All the Vampire Diaries episodes (except the bonus comic-con double) have vanished, but I paid for them !
They're not anywhere on my harddrive either.
Which is new by the way, this is a new MacbookPro, literally set it up today.
So it would seem this is a case of purchased and pseudo-downloaded episodes that ended up beinge gobbled up by some iTunes black hole, leaving me with no money, and no episodes.
    Need help, confirmed.

  • IPad 2 will not update from version 4.3.5 (8L1).

I got an iPad 2 from work and it will not update from version 4.3.5. There isn't even a software update option in settings. I have reset and erased it a few times, and still no update option. I have plugged it into my computer to try to update it that way and every time iTunes prompts me to download and update the latest version, it loads for a few seconds and then I get an iTunes message that says "The IPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your newtwork connection is active, or try again later." the network connection IS active, I can use safari, and I have "tried again later" and still no update. PLEASE HELP!

  • Apps on iPad Air will not update

Since about Oct 14, none of may apps will update, nor can any new apps be installed. Update is pressed and it just hangs there (zero progress). I suspect in a day or two all of my apps will need updating. Worst case, some apps will not run without the latest update.
I have tried restarting, reseting the device, and deleting the last app that was successfully updated.  None of these worked.
    Specs
iPad Air, 32 GB. OS 8.0.2.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I let it waste an hour or two of my time trying to figure it out, then backed up in iTunes and restored.  Had to update too, better not lose the ability to jailbreak when it comes out for the A5 chipset.
I'm not mad at Apple.  Problems like this rarely happen, though when they do options are pretty limited.  On Android it probably would have been much easier to clear caches or update the app or at least view the log and see whats happening and to fix the problem, but problems like this would be coming up a lot more frequently.  First problem I've had since buying an iPad in August.  I'll take it.

  • Apps on iPad 2 will not update?

I have several updates available on my iPad2 and I cannot get them to update.  It will say "Waiting" or will just be faded out with the loading bar below it, but they will not load.  I have tried the following:
-Signing out of my iPad and signing back in
-Signing out of my iPad, restarting it, and signing back in
-Connecting to iTunes and "check for downloads"
    -Updating it to 5.0.1
    -Syncing it
-Checking iCloud for the apps to re-download
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you.
