Ipad 1 won't restore error (1)

I've tried at least 15 times.  I've unplugged all other USB cables, etc.  I've already been able to update 2 iphones with IOS 5 but now I'm stuck with the iPad on recovery.  I'm on an iMac and everything is updated.  Any ideas???

Magically, it worked after about the 30th try.  Didn't do anything different.  I guess just keep trying.

  • IPad won't restore, Errors 9, 21 and 1611

My iPad boots into recovery mode but won't restore. On my windows 7  PC i get errors 9 and 21, on my XP machine i get error 1611. I have tried DFU mode, uninstalling all apple software then re installling it, a diffrent USB cable and a diffrent usb port. but still no luck :/. When i attemt to restore, on the iPad screen the progress bar shows for about a second then the screen goes black like it just powered off, however, it shouldn't since the battery holds a good charge. please help, i've been trying to fix this for hours now. Thank you

#9 is loss of USB connectivity, the other two are security software errors. Sounds like you may have third party security software that is not allowing iTunes to connect.

  • My 1st generation iPad won't restore

My first gen ipad won't restore. It won't turn on, it won't turn off, it won't show the apple logo when I try to put it in DFU mode, and it won't show the 'connect to itunes' symbol. Basically it won't do anything that all the trouble shooting tips suggest!
When I plug it into the mains via it's charging dock, it flashes the apple logo every 10 or 15 seconds, but when I plug it into the mac it only manages to flash very weakly every 5 seconds or so.
After many attempts, I managed to get itunes to recognise that there was 'an ipad in recovery mode' but every time I tried to restore it, I got the message 'unknown error 1602' and when I looked this up, it basically said it was the same as about 10 other error codes and that all I needed to do was change the USB port and/or restart itunes and/or the mac and it would all be good.
I did all of these things several times and in various permutations but to no avail.
I'm not 100% sure of the operating system on the ipad (and of course I can't check at the minute,) but I'm sure it's iOS 5. something! (I did update regularly, or when prompted by the system, but haven't done it in a while because my wife uses it now.)
My itunes is up to date - Version 11.0.1
    I know it's a long-shot but can anyone help?
    Thanks

I have a similar problem. But my iPad shows the connect iTunes screen and gives error 2001 when I try to restore it.
My iPad's battery was fine but I didn't use it for like 2 weeks. It's battery would've discharged and it turned off. When I tried to charge through wall socket, it got into the restart loop where it would show apple logo and turn off. So I did the simultaneous holding of Home and Sleep buttons for 10 seconds or more. It started showing connect to iTunes.
When I try to restore, the iTunes does the usual "extracting file" or something and go upto preparing for restore. But the iPad screen turns off from "connect to iTunes" and iTunes gives the error 2001, and the screen is back to connect to iTunes.
Also, if I don't plug in, the iPad seems dead, doesn't wake up or anything.

  • Refurbished ipad won't restore

refurbished ipad won't restore or start up.  Only have had it for 2 weeks.

If the above fails you can download a free programme called Recboot. Follow the simple instructions and it will kick you ipad out of the recovery mode and bring it back to normal. I jave just used it myself as mine was stuck in recovery mode due to a corrupt back up file.

  • IPod Won't Restore Error 3194

The iPod won't restore an when i try to restore my iPod in comes up with the Error 3194, from what i can call the error apppears when it says verfiying with apple i have tried changing host, no luck.

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • HT201442 My iPad won't restore via iTunes, now it won't even turn on!!

I've followed their support but it's still not worked.
Since I bought the iPad I've never plugged it into my laptop (Windows 7), until this morning when I wanted to put some photos onto there.  So when I plugged it in it did a stupid set-up thing I couldn't "skip" because it thought it was a new iPad.  It needed an update so I clicked update - it wouldn't do it because there wasn't enough memory and now It's saying I need to restore it (recovery mode).
I click on the button to restore it and it comes up with, "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (3194).
I am REALLY ANNOYED as I can't use my iPad at the moment, and when I click on restore it says that all data on the iPad will be lost (so Im not happy about that at all!!!!)
How do I solve this, I've followed all their support steps, but it's still not working.  There is no local apple store by me either - I live in the middle of no where and study full-time and work part-time, so am unable to travel to the nearest store during their opening times as they clash with my hours!!!

  • Ipad won't restore due to passcode being on

My iPad will not start past the apple logo, but when I try to restore the iPad, iTunes cannot connect because it is locked with a passcode. How do I get the passcode turned off when My iPad won't start up?

    Hello there, KatieLE.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some great information for resolving your issue:
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
    Particularly:
If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer
If you see one of following alerts, you need to erase the device:
"iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
"You haven't chosen to have [device] trust this computer"
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

I have started the restore process several times and I continue to get stuck on "preparing ipad for restore" stage. I've left it for up to 24 hours and still nothing. If I disconnect it without quitting Itunes, it will say "waiting for Ipad" on the top bar....when I connect, I get an error 4014, which I've read up on. Itunes is up to date, as is my OS. When I hold the home and start keys, I get nothing on my screen...........boo.......is my Ipad hooped?!?! Anything I can do to recover at this point?

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
        1.    Install the latest version of iTunes.
