  • MacBook wont join existing WiFi network??

My MacBook wont join an existing, working WiFi network - I keep getting "timeout" errors even though I am entering the correct WPA - can anybody please help me figure out why??
    thank you

First contact your ISP.  You need to confirm that the issue is not on their end.
Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.

    No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

  • N6300 Centrino Ultimate Wont join any wireless network

I just bought an Intel Centrino Ultimate N6300 wireless card and installed it on my W520 ThinkPad. Its working fine and I can discover all the wireless networks surrounding me that are 2.4 and 5 GHz. The only problem I faces is that it won’t join any wireless network at all. I have 2 wireless modems and I tried to create a hotspot using my iPhone and still no luck at all. Every time the computer will try to connect and will ask me for my Wi-Fi password and then will try to connect until it says can’t connect to network. I tried updating the driver but it was up to date, I also tried deleting the driver and install it all over again but still no luck. I'm currently running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit on my machine.
Can anyone please tell me if they know how to fix it?

Click on the START button, enter "network connections" (without quotes) in the "search programs and files" area. Press ENTER.  This will produce the "Network Connections" window, and your wireless network should show up there as an object.
Select that network object, right-click, select DISABLE.  Let it stabilize for 15 seconds or so.  You should see a red "X" over the wireless icon in the System Tray notification area.
After a bit, right-click again and this time select ENABLE.  Again, let it stabilize.  The red "X" should go away and the wireless icon should reappear, and you may once again be prompted to enter your password for the connection.
Does it get recognized successfully now?
You can also try right-clicking on that network object and select "diagnose".  See if Windows can figure out what's wrong and correct it.  You might be prompted to designate whether this network is home, work, or public, and presumably you'd select "home".
Also, another thing might be that you need to specify whether this new wireless network is home, work, or public.
Again, click on the START button, enter "network and sharing" in the "search programs and files" field.  Press ENTER.  This will produce the Network and Sharing Center window.
What is shown in the graphic?  Is your new wireless network presented??
You can try either "set up a new connection or network" or "connect to a network", and follow the dialog wizard.
Again, you eventually want to be presented with the window that asks you to pick home, work, or public network, and then you know you've finally got it working.

  • IPAD 2 WONT CONNECT TO KNOWN NETWORK

I input the wifi key for the known network but the ipad wont connect to the internet?

    Other things you can try:
    1. Have you tried rebooting router?
    2. Reset network settings
    3. Have you tried changing the security settings e.g. WEP, WPA, WPA2
    4. Have you tried changing channel; try channel 1, 6 or 11 (non-overlapping channels)?
    5. Reduce the number of walls between your iPad and the router.
    6. Have you tried changing wireless protocol e.g. a/b/g/n

  • HT5569 My iPad refuses to join my home network, after I had connected to a local bar's network. What's wrong?

My Mini iPad refuses to connect to my home network. I was at a local bar last night and connected to their network automatically. When I came home, it wouldn't connect to my network. I have the big iPad with retina display also. It was connected to the network until I disconnected a few minutes ago. Then it would not longer connect.
Both iPads are running ios 7.0,4    Any ideas about what's wrong?
    Many thanks for your help.
    Hazel

Try to power cycle your router. Meaning unplug it, count to 10, plug it back in. Let it reboot and see if that helps.
You can also reset your iPad. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
If that doesn't work, go into the settings and wifi. Tap on your home network name and tell your iPad to forget it. Then exit the settings and go back in. You should see your home network again and try to join again.

  • IPad unable to join wifi network

Tried everything. One of 4 iPads in the house. This is the only that is unable to join network. Did hard reset. Tried "forget network." Shut off router, etc. need suggestions before heading off to store...

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Ipad unable to join network

iPad mini, using my network just fine for several weeks now.  Was having a problem with online games loading, so went to wi-fi settings and clicked "Renew Lease".  Now I can no longer connect.  Keeps telling me "unable to join network".  Laptop connects fine.  Turned iPad off, forgot network, nothing works.

Usually it's because you are not connecting to the internet via wifi.

  • I have an iPad 2 v6.1.3 that has a problem with connecting to wi-fi.  My other I macs have no problem with connecting.  The pad keeps coming up with unable to join the network. Nothing has changed with passwords--it just refuses to join my secure network.

My other Imacs and my wife's Ipad 3 have no problem with conneccting.  My Ipad keeps coming up with unable to join the network.  Nothing has changed with passwords--it just refuses to join my secure network.  A couple minutes ago, it connected for 10 seconds, then dropped the connection.  Is there a way to reconfigure the Ipad to fix this major problem, as we dropped our carrier (saved a bunch of money) and just went wifi.
Thanks so much for any help with resolving my connection problem.

  • I'd like to debug and iPad problem joining a wireless network. Is there anyway to debug the network / system calls made while access an SSID?

We have multiple 802.1x networks, where iPads on occasion are unable to connect. There is no apparent contact by the 802.1x supplicant to join the network, and the usually the network settings both on the iPad and in the wireless systems works. So it doesn't appear to be configuration related. I'd like to debug the network protocol stack on the client, or look at iPad system logs to determine what is going on when an iPad refuses to join a network. Thanks

Yes they are centrally managed via cap/wap using PEAP/WPA1. The problem is that when this problem occurs none of that protocol is executed as far as I can tell. Hence digging into a debug log might provide a clue.

  • TS1398 Just got an ipad 4generation...I went to join my wifi network.  I tried a few times but the pass word I used didn't work.  I went to try another pass word and now I don't have the "join" option.  I've started over and still no "join" option.

Just got an ipad.  I went to join my wifi network at home.  I tried a few times with a password that I thought was correct but it didn't work.  When I went to try another password it would no longer give me the "join" option.  The "join" option will no longer illuminate.

Thanks!  Actually, by trying another wifi site we have here at home, I was able to give it another try.  For us though, it seems we have an internet problem unrelated to the ipad.  We'll have to figure that out.

  • My ipad 2 from verizon will not join my wifi network!

I just got a new iPad 2 and it won't connect to my home wifi network. My husband just got a iPhone and we got his connected with no trouble, but mine keeps saying unable to join network. I have a pc connected and have no problem.  My daughter was not able to get her Mac connected when she was here last either. Any ideas? I really don't want to pay for Internet at home through Verizon!

One other easy thing to try is to just restart your iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut down. Then hold the sleep button until the Apple log appears to power up. Then try again. And another obvious thing that you don't want to overlook is make sure you entered the correct password for your network.
Rather than just keep posting back and forth here are any number of things that you can try in these two support articles. Go through them and if you still can't connect then post back and maybe someone can offer help.

  • Unable to join home wireless network

One of my iPhones wont join my home wireless network.  Keeps saying password is incorrect.  Two other iPhones, 3 iPads, laptop all join no problem.  Tried resetting wireless settings, did not work.

I'm having the same problem, but I have an iPhone 4 and mine won't connect to any network. It always says "unable to connect to network". I looked through all of the support forums but all I can find are people saying that its the firmware and that Apple has to fix it in an update or have to switch it out, and my warranty has expired. All of those forums are also from 2009. I don't want to pay for unlimited Internet, so I new this to be fixed. Please help if you at all possibly can.
