IPad (1st gen.) no longer syncs/charges after 11.2.1 (31) 64-bit update. Any ideas?

Hi,
My iPad no longer charges/syncs to iMac after iTunes upgrade. [11.2.1 (31) 64-bit]
Any ideas?
Thanks,
MrsAva

Sometimes OS updates just finally catch up with old application code, and what worked before no longer works.
Glad the update was able to fix your problem. When only a single application is malfunctioning, it's almost always the best use of time and energy to check with the app's developer to see if an update is available, particularly when you're running the initial release of the app.
Regards.

  • My iPad 1st gen has a large grey stripe in the middle of the screen. Any help would be appreciated

It was not dropped and has no other damage and works fine EXCEPT i cannot view the middle part of the screen.
From other posts and searching the web this seems to be a "KNOWN" 1st Gen issue and I am ot the only one.
Anyone had any luck with getting this solved ??
My solution was I just bought a new iPad 4th Gen because I did not want to be without my favorite device but am discouraged by the fact Apple is NOT commenting on this issue or offering a fix
I am hoping that this 4th Gen did not come with a 2 year expiration date - for almost $800 bucks it should last until I decide - not until it is completely disabled by a manufacturer defect as in what happened with my 1st Gen
I still expect my 1st Gen to work and need any suggestions in dealing with the issue as (OF COURSE) the device is no longer under warranty

    $100 you can buy a replacement screen => http://www.ifixit.com/iPad-Parts/iPad-Wi-Fi-Front-Panel-Assembly/IF180-000?utm_s ource=ifixit_guide&utm_medium=guide_intro&utm_content=required_items&utm_term=ip ad_wi-fi
Then use the guide to swap out the screen => http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPad+Wi-Fi+Front+Panel+Assembly/4174/1
I had a similar issue last year when I bought my new Samsung HDTV. There was a strip of discoloration going down the middle of the screen about 3 inches wide. Samsung replaced the screen as there was nothing that could be done to fix it.
I imagine this means the crystals in the screen are somehow damaged. It may not be your fault, they could have just gone bad from bad manufacturing or whatever. There is software for desktop computers that runs through series of tests for attempting to correct issues with an LCD screen, but it would be difficult to run this software on an iPad screen. I doubt there is an app that does anything similar, but you can check the app store or the Cydia market if jailbroken.
    Good luck

  • IPad 1st gen no longer being recognized by iTunes on my mac, neither being charged, help please i need to sync it

My iPad is being used by a younger sibling, who usually plugs in and out the charger, the iPad is chargable, but it wont connect to my mac, not charge either.

I'm thinking the cable has been damaged. Get a new one. They're not expensive. Many stores, like WalMart, have them.
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • My iPad (1st gen) loses Wi-Fi connection after sleep.

If my iPad is allowed to go into "sleep" mode on its own, the connection to my Wi-Fi network is lost.  Going into the iPad settings and toggling Wi-Fi off and back o n will restore the connection.  I don't have to re-enter the password for the connection to be restored.  This doesn't happen with any other devices on my wireless network.  Any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

I was having the same problem and could only get it back either by restarting iPad, clearing the network or restarting the Router. I eventually found this useful post on the Princeton Universty website:
    http://www.net.princeton.edu/apple-ios/ipad-iphoneos32-dhcp-workaround.html
It appears the problem is caused if you have any applications which uses Push notifications such as Mail, Contacts, Games Centre etc. Apparently in IOS 4.3, when the iPad goes into sleep mode it should drop the wifi connection to clear the DHCP cache. If you have notifications on, it doesn't drop the connection on sleep so when it wakes up again, either the DHCP cache entry is out of date or something else is out of step with the router.
This only happened after an abortive attempt to upgrade to IOS 5.0.1 (see https://discussions.apple.com/message/16778153#16778153)  and a downgrade to IOS 4.3 which I think is where Apple introduced the Games Centre with notifications turned on by default.

  • IPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes.  Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store.  Nothing works.  This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.

Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out

  • Photos not syncing to stream from 4s to iPad 1st gen

    Hi
I have an iPhone 4s 16gb and an iPad 1st gen 64gb. I'm currently travelling (so no access to my laptop) and trying to sync all photos from my phone to my iPad so I don't lose them when I get a new phone. Most have synced successfully but some older photos don't appear on my iPad at all? I don't want to lose these photos and can't think of a way to get them from my phone to my iPad!
Also, any suggestions how to store the videos from my iPhone as I read somewhere that iPad 1st gen isn't compatible with videos from a 4s?
Lots of travelling memories I don't want to lose!
    Thanks in advance!
    Beth x

  • Crash after restoring iPad 1st GEN

    Hello all,
Okay, I have an iPad 1st gen and until today it had never been synced with a computer.
So I installed iTunes my entered apple id and password then began downloading the iOS update. (so far so good)
I synced and made a backup restore of ipad and began installing iOS update
upon completion of the installation which took like an hour or more, i was greeted with an error that  said it had failed to update and recommended restoring
it. So I obliged and started the restore process now the ipad wants me too set it up, thats fine with me.
Well partway through the setup it asks me for a sim and PUK number which I do not have because this iPad has never had a sim in it ever?
I run internet off of it using a Verizon MIFI box and now I cant finish the installation without a sim? it has never had one so what do I do?
The installation wont complete  without a sim so what do I do?

i think restoring your ipad should solve your problem! even i have an ipad 1! and it works absolutely fine ! the only app i have seen crashing is infinity blade( that to works in 2-3 times)!
also u can try hard rebooting your ipad!
and ur worry aboout apps being for ipad 2 and new! there are separate apps for them which you will be told while downloading that are incompatible with your ipad!
so i think restoring shoudl do the trick! first try hard reboot! i.e ipad power off!

  • I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there

I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there for older iPads with the 30pin charger but I can't find one for the lighning 8pin charger.

I don't know what you mean by "poor battery life". If your iPad is working properly you should get 9-10 hours of life.

  • Ipad 1st gen: Pinterest no longer working in Safari

I have an Ipad 1st Gen.  I have been using Pinterest in Safari with no problems...until now.  When I try to go to the website in Safari, it automatically redirects me to download the app.  Is there a way to fix this?
I cannot download the app because my IOS is updated as far as it can go, and the Pinterest app requires an IOS higher than what I have.

Ii's not just 1st gen iPads. I have the same issue with my iPad 3. Whether I clickEd my bookmark or manually typed the Pinterest URL, I was immediate redirected to the app. I don't like the Pinterest app, so I deleted it. Now when I try to go to the website, I am redirected to the App Store. So frustrating!
ive complained to Pinterest via Twitter and left a one-star review in the App Store, but have not received a reply, nor have I been able to find a workaround. For now, I'm using Pinterest only on my desktop computer, but I really miss browsing Pinterest on my iPad.
if anyone figures out a workaround, please post!

  • IPhone 4s iOS 6.0.1 and iPad 1st gen. iOS 5.0. What do I need to do?

Wifi connection problem between iPhone 4s iOS 6.0.1 and iPad 1st gen. iOS 5.0. What do I need to do? I've reset the network on each and nothing. Please help.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Video Thumbnail images gone - iPad 1st gen, iOS5

After updgrading my iPad 1st gen to iOS5, all of my video thumbnail images are gone.
The iPad just displays a white box with a gray flat screen TV icon for every video file listed under Movies or TV Shows
This is most troublesome when I touch the TV Shows button and I get a page full of those white boxes with the TV icon - and, as has always been the case, there is no name for the TV show. So I'm lost in the white boxes trying to find LOST the TV show.
Any thoughts on how I get my thumbnails back?

If they are in your iTunes library on your computer why don't you try syncing again. Make sure that all of the shows are selected to sync along with the sync Movies heading and then sync again.
If they are only on the iPad it might be a good idea to transfer the purchases into the iTunes library. Connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes and right click on the device name and select Transfer Purchases.
If you have tried syncing, try restarting, resetting and quitting the videos app.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
To quit the videos app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • How to get photos off iPad 1st gen

Anyone know a way I can get photos off an iPad 1st Gen? It is not recognized by iPhoto 9 that is currently running on Mavericks.
This should have been synced a long time ago but my wife never did and now has photos on it that she wants.... I know, I know....
    Tried:
    - Using Image Capture - does not see it
    - When I launch iPhoto, it says "Loading" and never does anything.
    - iTunes does see it but that doesn't help to get photos off of it.
    - Saw a program that let's you transfer files off but it cost $30 and thought there might be a way to do ift for free.
    Thanks, Jeff

The iOS version has nothing to do with importing photos.
Where are the photos located? iPhoto will only get photos that were saved to the iPad like saved from an email attachment. Those are in the Saved photos album
If the photos are in another album they were synced to the iPad. To get those you need a third-party program like PhoneView or TouchCopy
    Also see:
