Ipad 1st generation no update

I am EXTREMELY frustrated and mad that Apple will no update the software for the 1st generation ipad! I was one of the first people to go out and buy their NEW product when it came out and because I did so I am unable to get the latest updates! RIDICULOUS!!

Hardware changes, software changes to take advantage of it,  and often the new changes can not be run on the older hardware.
are you still driving a 1973 Datsun? It can't play DVDs. Without a new device installed. Or run your maps, so get mad at Datsun.

Did you backup the iPad first? If you did - restore from the backup in order to restore the photos in the Saved Album on your iPad. If the photos were synced to the iPad, then sync them back again via iTunes.

If you did backup first, you will be restoring your most recent backup and you should be OK. But know that when you restore from a backup, you restore everything that is in that backup onto the iPad .... All documents, device settings, all data and so on. You cannot just select photos to restore to the iPad. It's all or nothing.

  • HT4972 Is there a way to update my iPad 1st generation to ios6?

Is there a way to update my iPad 1st generation to ios6? There are so many apps that I need and will not download without it.  My iPad works great so there's no reason to upgrade yet...

The iPad 1 can not be upgraded beyond 5.1.1.

  • HT4623 I have a ipad 1st generation can I update to iOS 7.0

    I have a ipad 1st generation can I update to iOS 7.0

    No.
5.1.1 is the highest iOS the first generation can go to.

  • Was iOS 5 meant for iPad 1st generation?  Ever since updating it is slower and slower.

Was iOS 5 meant for iPad 1st generation?  Ever since updating it is slower and slower.

When I first updated my original,iPad I had a number of issues with it, crashes, some sluggishness, and things like that. When the infest incremental update was released a little while later, it seemed to fix the issues on the iPad - or at least it made a very big difference.
I never updated it all the way to 5.1.1 - because I bought the new iPad so I have no first hand experience with 5.1.1 on the original iPad.
You can try some basic troubleshooting steps and see if they make a difference.
Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Sometimes this can help. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If you have issues with Safari - Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Candy crush update keeps crashing on my ipad 1st generation

candy crush update keeps crashing on my ipad 1st generation. it says loading, goes to play, very sluggish and then goes to home page. Storage is not the problem

I have a work around that will allow me to play Candy Crush (CC) on my 1st generation iPad.
My game would drop back to the main iPad icon screen when ever I loaded it and hit Play.  This was all caused by the lastest updates of CC.
Here is what works for my iPad crashes.
    1. Turn the WiFi networking option off and leave it off. (this is in "Settings")
    2. Turn the iPad off by doing a full power down. (Press and hold the power button)
    3. After the iPad has completed the power down, re-start the iPad normally (keeping the WiFi OFF)
Candy Crush should run normally now as it did in the past, but, with the possiblity of a few odd problems:
If CC game crashes after several rounds of play, repeat steps 2 and 3.
If CC balks, at any time, repeating steps 2 and 3 seems to reset the play operation
    Good Luck. . . .

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • IPad 1st Generation not syncing!

I have an Ipad 1st generation. It is as upgraded as possible for it's generation. Whenever connected to my computer I am unable to update existing apps. I have also not been able to add new apps. It will allow me to remove whatever I want.

I think that what you are saying about the problem being with the computer's OS (which is 10.9.2/maverick) may be the problem. Maybe that in conjunction with the latest iTunes upgrades are a problem with my older iPad.
But I don't get any kind of error message when I am trying to either sync, or update apps. The only messages I have gotten were when I attempted to update the netflix app directly on my iPad using the app store. And then the message said that the update I was attempting to install was not compatible with my iPad's OS. It then went on to inform me that I could instead re-install an earlier version of the netflix app that would work on my iPad. I installed it, and it works perfectly.--But when I connect the computer directly to my iPad so I could update some of the apps is when all the problems began. There were 22 updates available. When I tried to sync/apply changes(which included updates to 22 apps)iTunes carried on as though the sync was being done with all the changes requested. At the end of sync there was no sound to announce that the sync was done. When I looked back at the list of apps, all those that had said "will update" before I clicked apply, then said "update". Itunes had bounced out  all changes I wanted, and was acting as if it had done all that I wanted. Nothing was done. Nothing at all. And during the sync process all messages indicated that the sync was going as it was supposed to.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • IPad 1st generation keeps asking to be connected to iTunes every time

    Hi,
My 2nd iPad (1st generation) keeps asking to be connected every time it wakes up either from turn off or standby. I am really tired of restoring the same stuff again and again. If I am less lucky that day, Apple logo freezes forever until iPad gets so hot.
Are there any suggestions? I am using latest version of iTunes, tried connecting to Windows PC using different ports and 4 different cables, there are no security conflicts etc or TCP/IP issues.
Shall I return it to Apple? It is only 7 days that I had this delivered. I do not want to worship to this gadget - want to read my stuff, check my emails and all basic stuff. Tired of recovering 2-3 times a day. Waste of my time.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.
    Thanks,

Was searching and trying all kinds of solutions - Apple suggests some very complicated ones as well...
I was not able to connect to my itunes and/or sync because of it...  I found this in another thread and it solved my issues and everything is working for me now...
I found this, easy enough to follow solution that actually worked. in a single user's post in the forums here somewhere.  Can't find it again to say thanks to whoever it was, which prompted me to post it everywhere so everyone else can find it:
(Note: this is for Windows 8, but the solution for other versions is similar - you might need to try a few other folders, but are still looking for "Apple Device" under "Device Manager".)
Connect your iPad/iPhone/iPod to your PC
Go to: Control Panel > Device Manager
    Click on: Portable Devices
Right click on: Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod > Update Driver Software
Choose: Browse my computer for driver software.
    Go to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
Click okay and everything should suddenly work fine again.  (I can't remember if I had to choose "trust" again, but if I did, I only had to do it the once and everything was fixed after that).
    Hope it helps!
