IPad (1st generation) Not Syncing With iCloud

A friend of mine has a 1st generation iPad (64GB, Wi-Fi + Cellular) from May 2010. She has iOS 5.1.1 installed on it, which is as high as you can go on the 1st generation iPad.
She also her a MacBook and an iPhone, and she wants all three devices to sync (e.g. Notes and Calendar) via iCloud. The MacBook and the iPhone are syncing fine, but the iPad won't sync.
Is this simply a case of iOS 5.1.1 no longer being compatible with iCloud, or specifically, devices running iOS 7 (her iPhone) and OS X Mountain Lion (her MacBook Pro)? Any suggestions?

Hello Reuben,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue your friend is experiencing on her iPad.  I found some resources to help with this.
First, the following article provides a table of what version of iOS software you need for different iCloud features.  Several iCloud services are still available to use with iOS 5:

  • IPad 1st Generation not syncing!

I have an Ipad 1st generation. It is as upgraded as possible for it's generation. Whenever connected to my computer I am unable to update existing apps. I have also not been able to add new apps. It will allow me to remove whatever I want.

I think that what you are saying about the problem being with the computer's OS (which is 10.9.2/maverick) may be the problem. Maybe that in conjunction with the latest iTunes upgrades are a problem with my older iPad.
But I don't get any kind of error message when I am trying to either sync, or update apps. The only messages I have gotten were when I attempted to update the netflix app directly on my iPad using the app store. And then the message said that the update I was attempting to install was not compatible with my iPad's OS. It then went on to inform me that I could instead re-install an earlier version of the netflix app that would work on my iPad. I installed it, and it works perfectly.--But when I connect the computer directly to my iPad so I could update some of the apps is when all the problems began. There were 22 updates available. When I tried to sync/apply changes(which included updates to 22 apps)iTunes carried on as though the sync was being done with all the changes requested. At the end of sync there was no sound to announce that the sync was done. When I looked back at the list of apps, all those that had said "will update" before I clicked apply, then said "update". Itunes had bounced out  all changes I wanted, and was acting as if it had done all that I wanted. Nothing was done. Nothing at all. And during the sync process all messages indicated that the sync was going as it was supposed to.

  • Ipad and iphone not syncing with icloud

My ipad AND iphone 4S have stopped syncing with icloud - for calendar and reminders at least - suspect for all apps - any suggestions anyone? Have tried ensuring default calender is the same across all, but thus is also impacting other apps.. Help appreciated.

Do you mean per app? Have done for calendar on iphone, but reluctant to do so on ipad as that's the one that contains loads of updates (as it means deleting everything on the ipad?)... if I have to do this I will eventually, its just that as it's both my iphone and ipad involved, it seems like it might be more likely to be an icloud issue? She said hopefully...

  • Ipad Calendar does not sync with Icloud.

Followed Apple trouble shooting guide for this problem. Contacts sync to Cloud OK. Not Notes. Also, checked with my other Ipad's settings and they match. Only prob was Time Zone hangs -under Date/Time.

I had a relative with similar problems. That iPad is too old to stay in sync at this point in time. It kinda stinks, I know but older iPads just do that.
    No they don't.
My iPad 1 stays in sync just fine,

  • Ipad and mac not syncing with icloud

I am unable to sync my photos and contacts from my ipad with my Mac through icloud. The ipad and mac both have the latest update.

For icloud email on your device, you must have icloud turned on, but also have the Mail app set up to connect to icloud.  In Settings>Mail, Contacts,...  look in the Mail section under Accounts.  You must set up your icloud email account there in order to use the Mail app to read and send emails.

  • Why after IOS6 Ipad calendar not syncing with Icloud?

After I upgrade Iphone and Ipad to IOS6, my Ipad calendar doesn't sync with ICloud using exactly same Apple ID. Any sugestions?

    1. Fire up your Mac and connect the iPad.
    2. Open iTunes and confirm that you are NOT syncing via the cable. Change settings as appropriate. When finished, disconnect the iPad and power it down.
    3. Open iCal on the Mac and confirm that the events are correct. Add/delete events as appropriate. Quit from iCal.
    4. Open System Preferences > MobileMe > Sync
    5. Click on "Advanced" and then click on your Mac when it shows up.
    6. Click on "Reset Sync Data"
    7. At the top, Replace: Calendars
    8. Click the right-pointing arrow so that the complete text states: "Replace Calendars on MobileMe with sync info from this computer."
    9. Click "Replace"
    10. You've confirmed that your Mac and MobileMe are set up properly. Now the iPad. Fire up the iPad and go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    11. REMOVE Calendar syncing from the account that's identified by your email address.
    12. Follow the instructions below.

  • ICloud Calendar will not sync with iCloud

I am at a complete loss here.  I have my work MBA running Yosemite and connected to my iCloud account.  I also have a personal MBP, iPhone and iPad, all running the latest OS and Patch, all connected to my iCloud account.
For 98% of it, it works and syncs perfectly.  Except for the calendar on my MBA.  Calendar works and syncs perfectly everywhere else, MBA works perfectly with iMessage, FaceTime, Contacts, Keychain, etc, etc, etc.
    Basic troubleshooting I have performed:
    Rebooted MBA (obviously)
Attempted to remove calendars from syncing with my iCloud account (unsuccessful) - will not remove calendars.
Attempted to remove entire iCloud account from MBA (unsuccessful)
i have signed out everywhere on my MBA, when I go to System Preferences > iCloud and attempt to sign out, it fails.
When I go to Internet Accounts, iCloud keeps coming back as "INACTIVE" with nothing checked.
When I go through all the apps, Calendar is the only one that shows the iCloud data (iMessage shows me as signed out, same with App Store, iTunes, FaceTime, Contacts, etc)
Rebooted MBA multiple times throughout the process, to no avail or difference
Performed a repair install of Yosemite through the recovery console
After repair install, iCloud calendars still show up, even though my iCloud account under System Preferences shows me as signed out
After repair install, signed back into iCloud to see if I could re-sync calendarsiCloud shows me as signed in and Calendars as successfully setup
Upon launching Calendars, i get the spinning wheel in the top left of my calendar app and new calendar items created on the MBA do not sync with iCloud (website or other connected devices)
Created new calendar item on other devices as well as iCloud website, calendar item never shows up on MBA
So, aside from a complete format of the hard drive, can anyone think of any options I haven't tried?  Or some way to completely reset one app (such as Calendar)

Needed to add some clarification here:
iCloud shows me as signed in, but Calendars are NOT checked
Internet Accounts shows Calendars as syncing

  • Outlook not syncing with icloud on iphone

outlook not syncing with icloud on iphone?

Also make sure you are using the same iCloud account on your PC and your iPhone.  Go to Settings/iCloud on your iPhone and check the account email address.  Then check the iCloud account on your PC.  If you have a Windows PC, click on the iCloud icon in your system tray to see what icloud email account you are logged into.
I changed the email on my iPhone and. iPad, but forgot to change the email on my PC and my calendars wouldn't sync.  It finally dawned on me that I forgot to change the account on my PC.

  • Since Mavericks update my iPhone and iPad calendars are NOT syncing with the calendar on my MacBook Pro

Since Mavericks update my iPhone and iPad calendars
are NOT syncing with the calendar on my MacBook Pro.
I used to use iTunes but don't see the options now.
Does anyone know how to set up a sync.?

I have temporarily solved the sync problem by using an older MBAir running snow leopard, I exported
both calendar and contacts and imported them in the MBA and synced normally.
Since I'm not about to send my data on the cloud, or setup a server to just sync my iphone,
I think this is a good workaround ! BTW I stopped updating my contacts and calendar on the MB, I only
update the iphone until a permanent solution is found !
And they better come up with one soon, because I'll just switch to an Android phone and Ubuntu linux for my MBP, Apple should make our lives easier, not harder !
I'm sure Samsung is having a ball ever since the sync issue was made public !
Hopefully Apple is listening and will make things right again !

  • Calendar does not sync with iCloud

I have an iPhone 4S with the latest iOS. A month ago I started a brand new iCloud calendar (every other were deleted). It was working fine, when I launched the app, it synced in 2-3 seconds. But a few days ago it does not sync with iCloud, there is the running circle in the upper line and nothing happens. The interesting thing is when I try it with Wi-Fi, it works, albeit really slowly, under one minute. I did not change any setup. Has anybody an idea?

    Hi Firend,
In my Calendars app, I selected all calendars to be shown. In Settings, Calendars settings are set: New invitation is turned on, Sync is turn all events on, and Calendar Default is set Calendar From My PC.
It is working well for long time.
    Hope it will be helpful

  • Pages not syncing with iCloud

I am trying to figure out, why pages is not syncing with iCloud. I have Documents checked in the System Preferences of iCloud on my Mac Book Pro, I have Documents checked on my iPhone and I have the Pages app.
Can someone shine some light on this issue?

The desktop/Mac OS X versions of the iWork apps have not been updated to take advantage of iCloud yet. In the meantime you can go to iCloud.com, sign in & click the iWork icon where you can upload & download files. You could also try e-mail or Dropbox. Hopefully we will see those updates, maybe even a whole new version of iWork, soon.

  • My iphone is not syncing with iCloud

Hi, i have just noticed (it may have been going on for a few weeks) that my iPhone 4 (IOS6) will not sync with icloud.  This has not been a problem in the past.  If I put a new event on the phone, it is not shown on icloud and vice-versa.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Try Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > [scroll down to the Contacts area] > Default Account.
    Is this set to "iCloud"?
Do you have such a setting (Default Account)?  Frankly, I don't ... all my contacts have been in iCloud (only) for years.  But I'm thinking you do have this setting based on this article:
