IPad 2 16gig went over sized on screen froze then shut down now onlyI displays apple logo

iPad 2 went over sized on screen then froze then shut down now will only display apple logo

The image means that the iPad has gone into recovery mode - you will need to connect it to your computer's iTunes, that should recognise the iPad and allow you to reset it back to factory defaults, and you can then restore/resync your content to it. Whilst it's in recovery mode you might not be able to turn it off (I'm not sure whether it's possible or not)

  • HT3964 screen froze, then closed down. when setting up the grey screen remains on and you hear the laptop kicking over

screen froze, then closed down. when starting up again, screen remains grey and you can hear the laptop 'clicking' away?

A clicking sound can be a disk drive that's bit the dust or on it's way there.
Boot into Lion recovery mode (hold down command and r keys while booting), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Also repair permissions while you're there.  If the repair hard drive completes without error, then reboot normally.
If that doesn't do it, run the Apple hardware test. Choose the extended test when prompted.
Depending what the Apple hardware test tells you will determine your next step. Hopefully your hard drive is backed up.

  • Macbook  flickering screen & freeze, then won't boot pass the apple logo

    Hi Guys,
My macbook is driving me insane now. Just recently, my macbook has occasionally flickering screen and freezes after that. Yesterday, when I was watching youtube on fullscreen, it first has flickering screen, then freezes. So I hard booted it pressing the power button. Then, when I try to restart it, it won't boot pass the apple logo no matter what.
    Here's my macbook spec
    2007 Summer Macbook Pro 15"
    Snow Leopard 10.6 OS X
I cracked my screen once, and got a replacement, don't know if that matters.
    I've tried the following:
Safe mood reboot, the progress bar goes about half, then disappears and stalls again.
Booted in verbose mode but it gives a warning message:
'com.apple.driver. internalmodemsupport declares no kernel dependencies; using com.apple.kernal.6.0'.
Booted in Single user mood, and typed fsck for disk repair. After checking said the volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok. But still won't boot pass the apple logo after restart.
Boot with installation disk pressing C at startup. Success after a few try:
Opened Disk Utility and did disk repair (no problem found).
Reinstalled Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.
This time it booted with Finder and everything for a short while, then the screen flicker and freezes again (before I can backup anything!). Then, I can't reboot pass the apple logo again.
When I try to reinstall Leopard OS X 10.5 with installation disk, the macbook seems to try to read the disk, but won't boot. I've got a CD stuck in the optical drive now.
I've tried everything I can find online short of opening it up and send it into the oven for baking! I pray it's not a hardware problem, coz I'm no good at that. (QAQ~~~) Please help me!
Thank you very, very, very much!!!
ps. this is my first post. please let me know if I have missed anything.

Reboot the machine holding the trackpad or left wired mouse button down, that shoudl force eject the 10.5 disk.

Ok, so your attempting data recovery efforts.
First get the 10.5 disk out of the machine, like above.
You can also boot into Single User mode, (command s at reboot) and enter
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
    then type
    restart
Next hold c boot and use the 10.6 disk and create a data recovery drive here on a blank external drive, make sure you clean and polish the bottom of the 10.6 disk, if it's bad you will need to get a new one.
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
If your problems continue on this drive even with a clean or new 10.6 disk, it's likely a hardware issue with your Mac, not a issue with the drive.
I suspect a failing sector on your internal boot drive, you installed OS X right over the same spot perhaps, as you were obviously able to boot from the 10.6 disk to install it so it seems the hardware of the Mac appears to be working.
You might have other issues relateing to software perhaps, something your installing or running.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Once you have gotten your files off the internal drive, you may want to look into doing a Zero Erase with Disk Utility before resintalling 10.6 again fresh install method.

  • My iphone 4 froze then shut down and now will not turn on.

i was opening an app when my phone froze, i held the power button till it turned off. it then took over 2 mins to switch off, it will now not turn on or charge. my laptop does not reconise that it is connected to it. any ideas?

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger and Reset, hold both Home and Power Buttons until the iPhone begins to start. Can take around 20 seconds of holding both buttons.

  • Frozen boot screen (gears) then shuts down, XP boots fine.

    I have a 17" MBP 2.4GHz.
When I try to boot into OS X it just stays on the grey loading screen with the spinning gears for a while, then shuts itself off. XP however on bootcamp loads up just fine, and is where I am typing from now.
My Firsy 15" was plagued with problems, this 17" has had its logic board changed already, AND the screen came back with light patches on it from the repair. I am slowly losing confidence in Apple and its hardware.
    Any ideas?

My 15-inch Macbook Pro that I use for work was just sent in to Apple for the same problem. I'll let you know what, if anything, I find out.

  • IdeaPad U330 shows a blue screen and then shuts down while trying to Backup using onekey recovery

I have a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad U330 2267-58U preloaded with Windows XP Professional. After I installed some application software I tried to use the Onekey Recovery (from the Start menu) to create a backup of my system partition (C drive) for the first time. For backup mode I chose "Full backup" and for Compression Type I chose "Quick compression" (I tried the no compression option and it didn't work either). I then clicked the "Next" button and left everything unchanged as the default setting (backup location set to the D: drive). As soon as I clicked the "next" button, and then the "start" button, the screen turns blue and the system reboots. The system then reboots with the blue disck-checking screen.
Any fix to this problem??  I haven't been able to create any back up for my system or create a recovery disc so far.

Try rebooting it. Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. This will take 10-20 seconds of holding.

  • My mac froze and shut down. Is there a way to retrieve unsaved files?, My mac froze and shut down. Is there a way to retrieve unsaved files?

My mac froze then shut down. Is there a way to retrieve my unsaved files?

It depends what you are using, you haven't told us, and whether you ever saved in the first place which you also haven't told us.
In OSX Lion (OSX 10.7) Pages will have auto-saved after the initial save and reopening the file will take you back to the last save.
Prior to Lion you would only have the last saved version. Utilities like ForEverSave would have auto-saved for you or you would need to manually save with command s.
If your whole Mac froze and it wasn't a battery issue in a laptop, then I would try and determine the reason as this should not be happening.

  • My wifes ipad 1 went to a blue screen. I restored it and still nothing.  Is there any other fixes?

My wifes ipad 1 went to a blue screen. I restored it and still nothing.  Is there any other fixes?

My guess, based on your info and the fact that the shuffle is an older model, is that the shuffle's battery is worn out and not holding a charge.  When you plug it in, it functions because it is getting power from the USB connection and appears to charge.  When you disconnect it, it goes dead because battery does not hold the charge.
Since you have already tried doing a Restore, the problem is hardware and not software.  Unless you want to do the work yourself
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPod+Shuffle+2nd+Generation+Battery+Repla cement/3656/1
the cost for replacing the battery probably exceeds the $50 for a new 4th gen shuffle.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, restore your iPad using iTunes or iCloud >  iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

Macbook Pro (2011) froze while working, forced shut down, now won't turn on. Grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel for hours. Help?
Unfortunately do not know the operating system since I never updated anything and I can't get in to it.
    Thanks for your assistance.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
