IPad 2 and USB

Am I correct that still no micro SD or USB slot on the new iPad2?
I recall there is an camera adapter for the iPad and that a SD card could be used. Is that still doable if no SD or USB slot on the Two?
Are there connectors for docking on the bottom and side - on the iPad 2?
If down the road (no pun intended) I would like to use my iPad2 with GPS- Do I still need the W-Fi plus 3G version? I gather the new geosphere (?) feature on the iPad2 does not mean its GPS capable.

Correct, there is no USB or SD slot on the iPad2. The camera connection kit can still be used with SD cards - I don't know whether the iOS 4.3 update will increase the power supplied to the CCK so as to allow more CF card readers to be used with it (4.2 reduced the power meaning that generally only powered CF readers could be connected to it). Dock connector is on the bottom. http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
If you want GPS then you'll need the 3G version; the wifi model only picks up location via the routers that it connects to, so will not be as accurate or as available

Since receiving a iOS software update (6.1.2) my iPad has frozen and only the iTunes icon and a usb cable show on screen. I am unable to access any App. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction. this was raised with Apple and ticket number advised on 3rd March but not a word from Apple since.
    Thank you

Try and turn off iPad/iPod and proceed to step 3 of Recovery Mode.
    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

You will not be able to see what version you are running until the iPad is activated. It will be in Settings>General>About >Version when you can get to the settings app.
The slider bar that you are describing sounds like the screen lock side switch and that has no bearing on setting up the iPad or connecting to WiFi.
Why don't you try rebooting your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again and see if the iPad will recognize and join the network.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.9.1)

Obviously, syncing an iOS device with iTunes over USB is still supported in Mavericks. Calendar and contact syncing with iTunes is no longer supported. That has nothing to do with your problem.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

Have you updated iTunes with the absolute latest software?  If you have not in a long time, your iPad won't be recognized.

  • 2 Problems with the Ipad Air...midi keyboard and usb microphone

    IN SHORT:
2 Problems with the Ipad Air...what midi keyboard will connect to the lightning camera connector and what microphone as well?  There seems to be issues with the ipad air not being able to power them.  Has anyone got any devices to work yet?
    IN DEPTH:
I have a yeti microphone that when I plug in it says its using too much power.  A little samsung go mic I have plugs in find and works but isnt quite what im looking for.  My midi keyboard is not reading...its probably 15yrs old (didnt expect it to work).  I have ordered a usb powered keyboard but im now nervous it may not work if it requires too much power.  Has anyone had any success with a particular model of keybaord?  I saw a youtube video of the CME Xkey in which it was plugged into an ipad that uses the lightning jack, but was unsure if it was the air or a different model.
Any help is appreciated on this...I love my ipad air and hoping to make it my fully functional music recording device.
By the way I mostly use garageband

    hey mate
Yes what I ended up doing is buying a powered usb hub.  They are about 10 dollars or so on amazon.com.   There are tons to choose from.  I use a yeti micrphone now with no issues and a midi keyboard.  You will need the lightning usb adapter too.  You plug the lightning adapter into the ipad and the hub into the adapter then plug all your accessories into the powered hub.  So it works well you just gotta buy an extra piece of equipment.

  • Ipad lacks camera and usb ports

hi i like the ipad but it lacks camera and usb ports. im hoping steve jobs will recognize this. im hoping to have my ipad in the future with built in camera and usb ports. Hope it will replace the laptops in the future. thanks. i love apple products.

    1) your wanting a USB port doesn't mean it needs one. I've had no trouble transferring documents, songs, pictures, or movies.
    2) a forward looking camera might be nice for video conferencing but at what cost? I'm sure we'll see it in the future when price for a high quality camera won't add a large amount to the price.
    3) the iPad isn't going to replace a computer anytime soon.
If you've been paying attention to Apple since Jobs returned (and if you are familiar with the first Mac) you'll realize that the iPad is the first step of a journey. Now that the basic idea has been developed we'll see stepwise refinement.

You know that you have to connect the iPad to your PC with the cable that came with it -  and then iTunes should start automatically and it will guide you through the set up process?
If you have already tried to connect the iPad - and you have launched iTunes - and you still have no luck - reboot your PC and then begin the process again.

  • Tried to sync ipad2 with itunes and got an error and now ipad frozen with usb cable/arrow/itunes logo.

I'm trying to sync music from my itunes library on my PC to my ipad2. During process got an error(don't remember #) and then it went to backing up. Now the ipad is frozen with a usb cable coming up to a white arrow and then the itunes logo. The ipad will turn on and off but nothing else. Any ideas?

You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Or you can follow these Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

The first thing that needs to be done with a new iPad is to activate it by connecting it to a computer that is running iTunes. Getting started guide : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4053
The iPad manual also has a chapter on getting started - it can be downloaded from here : http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad
