IPad 2 Bluetooth keyboard issues

G'day all,
I have recently purchased an iPad 2 Wifi 64gb 3g.
I just updated the software version on it to the latest off I tunes this morning.
I purchased a keyboard dock for it (genuine apple) and it works fine but it is a bit of a pain to use because I need to continually take the protective cover off the ipad to use it.
I decided to purchase a Bluetooth keyboard instead (once again genuine apple unit), it connects fine and it works, but some of the functions don’t, eg: volume play/pause FF/RW. Pretty much all the function keys on the top row do nothing except the one that you push to bring up the keyboard on the screen.
I know these function keys do work because when you push them and the screen is off it brings the ipad back to life and shows you the lock screen.
The keyboard dock works perfectly and all ipad specific keys work no problems (top row).
My question is-
Is this a problem with my keyboard or is it a software issue with the ipad 2 and not accepting the genuine apple Bluetooth keyboard. Has anyone else had this problem?
Many thanks,
Mal.

I keep having to restart my iPad 2 so my keyboard can connect to it (square button and sleep button simultaneously). It's getting annoying...

Is there a way to generate a "send" sequence (required in iMessage) from the Apple Bluetooth keyboard? Or is there a way to program tahe sequence on the keyboard? Hard to believe Apple missed this. HELP!!!

OK, I just went to get my keyboard.  yeah, big oversight.  Option-return (which clearly says "enter" on my keyboard) doesn't work.
So we need to submit feedback.  This is for sure a bug.

  • Sending an iMessage from my iPad using bluetooth keyboard?

I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard paired with my iPad Air.  I've been using it in iMessage lately and unlike iMessage on OSX Mavericks, pressing the "return/enter" key does not send the message.  Is there a setting that needs to be changed so that my "return/enter" key sends the message?  Or is there a keyboard shortcut that sends the message?  Thanks!

I highly doubt if there will be a solution for this request under Apple iOS roadmap.  I've asked the same request as you are.  No solution up to this point.

  • IPad and Bluetooth Keyboard

My iPad no longer responds generally to the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard. I have changed the batteries, disconnected and reconnected via Bluetooth, restarted the iPad, and even tested the Keyboard on the MacBook Pro, with which it works fine. However, on the iPad I am only able to type the connection code for Bluetooth, and use the 'Brightness' and Volume buttons. Nothing else works. I cannot type after it has been connected. Any suggestions?

    1. Does anyone know if the keyboard dock comes apart so that you can use the dock stand alone?
It doesn't look like it in the pictures.
    2. If the answer to question #1 is NO, does anyone know if you can use the non-keyboard dock without it being hooked to AC power?
You should be able to but we'll know for sure in March. You could also just buy a case that doubles as a stand.

  • Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard Issue

    Hello all,
I have a late 2006 intel iMac with 1 gig ram, 250 gig HDD with a core 2 duo.
I recently purchased a rocketfish bluetooth mouse and keyboard. They are both working fine except for 1 issue.
Every time I power on my imac, the mouse works, but, the keyboard doesent. then, MAC OS takes me to the bluetooth setup assistant and I have to pair the keyboard with the imac. I then have to type the 9 digit key and after that, the keyboard works fine.
What i find odd, is, I need to do this EVERY SINGLE TIME I power on my imac. is there a setting I am overlooking to make the iMac remember this keyboard?
I suppose it's really not that big of an issue, but, it can become quite frustrating to go through that every time I power up.

*"Once connected and paired, everything works fine"*
Check the batteries to make sure they are charged just in case.
If the batteries are ok... open System Preferences/Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list on the left side. Make sure the Discoverable button is selected. Restart your Mac and try pairing the keyboard again.
    It's being stubborn!
Are you running Windows on your iMac by chance?
    Try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Ipad mini onboard keyboard issue

I have just updated my ipad mini with the new ios software and it has caused may ipads onboard keyboard to run very slowly does anyone no how to fix this issue

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

I have been using my keyboard with my mac for a while, but today I reopened the laptop and the keboard, had to pair the keyboard again because I started the computer before the device, the computer showed that the keyboard is connected and paired, but when I try to push the buttons(typing) nothing happens. • Bluetooth keyboard mapping issues with iPad (3rd gen) after iOS 6.1.2 upgrade

Others may have figured this out more readily than I did, but since I did not find a post on this topic, I decided I would provide this information.
After upgrading my iPad "3" to iOS 6.1.2, my bluetooth keyboard mapping was a bit off.  Hitting most keys provided the desired result but not all.
Typing \ would result in ] for example.  Typing shift + 2 would result in " rather than the expected (and marked) @.
To fix this I tried turning Bluetooth off and on, etc.  No joy.
FinaIly, I went into "Settings," selected "Bluetooth," selected "Apple Wireless Keyboard," clicked on "Forget this Device."
I then powered off the iPad and the bluetooth keyboard.  Next, I powered on the iPad and keyboard and went back into "Settings" where I paired the keyboard with the iPad again.  Everything then worked as desired.
It's possible, that you may not need to go to the trouble of powering off and on the iPad and the keyboard.  Simply "forgetting" the device and then pairing the keyboard with the iPad again may suffice.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • Bluetooth wireless keyboard issues after iOS 4.3 upgrade

I use the Kensington iPad case with wireless bluetooth keyboard, model K39294. Since the upgrade to iOS 4.3, the keyboard shows it is paired, but won't connect and the bluetooth icon on the iPad stays greyed out. To get them to connect and work I have to forget the device in the iPad settings/general/bluetooth menu and then re-pair them. The keyboard will work for a day, but then stops working again. The connect button on the keyboard doesn't resolve the issue either.
Any one else experiencing this issue and have a fix?

I am having this same problem... Only with iPad 3 and update to iOS 7
    It worked perfectly before. :(

  • Occasional duplicate characters on iPad from Apple bluetooth keyboard

I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard on an iPad mini retina on iOS 7.0.4. Occasionally, but not always, when typing a new line (I think it might be after the keyboard has rested a certain period of time, but certainly not very long), I'll get a double character.
    llike this
    oor this
iit;s always the first character of a sentence,
Iit may be like this as well
Wwhere the first letter is capitalized as it should be, and the second is not.
Any ideas on what would cause this or how to fix it?
    Thanks
    -Joseph

Just to say that I use a Ipad Air 2, iOS 8.1, and a bluetooth keyboard recently purchased from apple and i experience the exact same issues.
And if it looks like something insignificant, a duplicate character here and then, i assure you that is a bit annoying.
I guess there is a sort of trust in keyboard input developed over time by ppl who use it a lot, that one does not expecto to be broken
Cheers, hope there is a fix for it.

  • I have an ipad and a bluetooth keyboard which was initially set up with a family member's account. Their account has been erased I am now using the ipad but cannot get the bluetooth keyboard to connect. no device is recognized. any suggestions????

I have an Apple iPad Mini With Wi-Fi 16GB and a Rock Bluetooth keyboard that was previously used by my daughter. Her information was erased from the ipad and I have set it up as a new user under my account. All went well until I tried to set up the keyboard. When I go to Settings and turn on Bluetooth the ipad does not detect any device. I know they were paired and working when she was using them. Could it be because the ipad/keyboard were operating with her account and know won't connect to mine? We do not live in the same city so how would I clear the keyboard so that I could connect it to a 'new' ipad?

    Hi sugaliko,
You may need to set up your BlueTooth connection to the keyboard again. Use the steps in this article for guidance -
