IPad 2 - Broke a component what is it?
I dropped my iPad 2, it hit a metal chair leg right on the volume button area, dented the metal case so bad the volume buttons were stuck on, so I took it apart and managed to bend the bent case to free up the volume buttons.
Bad news for me, on opening the iPad I think I sliced through the copper track of a component, its is just to the side of the power connection circuitry, here is a close-up photograph.
Those 2 little screws at the bottom, and the larger one just to the left, they looked like they were holding down this component, and my opening tool ripped it off the screws.
Now the Home and top power botton are non functional. The iPad comes on, the camera works, but I cannot ever get out of an app.
Please can someone advise what this part is, and if this would be the cause of the dead Home and power buttons.
Many thanks, I wish I had bought a warranty I would not have needed to do this...
I don't know if there will be any iPad repair DIY gurus on this discussion site a but in case you get no other responses, you might be able to find some help here.

My ipad mini broke the screem, what should i do??
I have scream protection and today in morning my ipad fall down and broke all the scream, what should I do, should I go to apple??
Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. If you have AppleCare+ on the iPad, the cost will be relatively minimal; $49 in the US. Otherwise, see the Service Pricing section here:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair". You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform your own repair, you will get no further support from Apple.
Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question. -

I broke a component on my motherboard.
I was going to help a friend by replacing the broken power jack on his ZE5570US Pavilion Laptop. I accidently broke a component located right next to the power connector on the bottom of the motherboard. It was a tiny SMT component labelled PC1. There is an identical component right next to it labelled PC88. And a third component very near labelled PC89.
I can't figure out what they are supposed to be? Capacitors? MOVs?
If it's a noise-reduction cap then I'll continue the jack replacement and cross my fingers the board will still work.
Any insights would be appreciated.
-Mike TanisIf your iPhone will still sync to iTunes, you should be able to sync contacts from it. If iTunes can't connect to it, then unless you have the contacts backed up elsewhere, such as in iCloud, you won't be able to get the contacts off it unless you take the iPhone to a third-party repair shop and have them just replace the screen. Such repair will void any future support from Apple, just FYI.

I have an Ipad 2 and here is what I am trying to accomplish. On my laptop I connect to a remote desktop connection to access a shared program we use for reporting. How do I set up my Ipad to access this remote server? Thanks for the help.
Close ... before going for a specific Cisco app ... lets find out some details:
Host we need more details:
What is your server environment (Windows Server, or Mac OS X Server, or Linux)?
What security is implemented in your environment - as what is restricted (RDP for all or specifc credentials on all machines? Are you part of local admin group to the server you wish to connect)?
Does your environment Support CISCO IPSec connection? If so use Settings> VPN and IPSec tab to enter VPN details, if not then go with above suggestion. IF your restricted to RSA then either built in VPN settings or 3rd party app for RSA would suffice.
Finally, there are many RDP applications out there I use "Mocha RDP Light" (free minimal ads when launched not when connecting). -
After upgrading to IOS 5 on my iPad only some books in iBooks show content. They were fine before the upgrade. I made a new version of the book in Pages and reinstalled them on the iPad. Still nothing. What is the fix?
I just got the iBooks update and that fixed the problem, except the book covers look like they were done in a government printing office.

So I just updated to the newest update that was available for safari and iTunes but now it won't let me go on the Internet using safari and it also won't let me sync my songs ,,,,,(it takes forever to backup my iPad AND my iPod) so what can I do ?
If you're on windows try the following:
This worked for me an hour ago and has allowed me to sync ok. Still haven't tried downloading the new version 5 to the phone yet as I'm still backing up photos etc just in case.
1. Quit itunes
2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator)
3. Once in the command prompt type the following 3 words starting where your cursor is flashing: netsh winsock reset
4. press ENTER
5. Reboot your machine
6. Restart itunes & connect device to sync
7. Good luck -

You may have to do this several times.
Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
My ipad 4 is in recovery mode and says connect to itunes, but when i connect to itunes it says nothing. but in the device driver properties on my computer it says my ipad is in recovery mode. what should i do?
please help!See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 to restore the phone using Recovery Mode. You will lose all content on the phone. This is the only way to bypass the lock screen if you don't have the last computer the phone was synced to.
Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates? All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:
https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.
My ipad was stolen this morning; can Verizon track the location of the device an assist the police department in recovering the device? I am filing a police report does Verizon have the serial number of the device for me to include in the police report? I have Total Mobile Protection and need instructions for filing a claim. Is here any other steps I should take?
If the iPad was running iOS 7, the thief/finder will not ever be able to use it.
My iPad has a blue screen What's wrong with it
My iPad has a blues screen what's wrong ?
Hold the home and power button down until it restarts. If it continues, restore it. If it continues and only happens in one app, contact the developer or update the app if it has any updates. If it happens with not just one app, reserve an appointment at your local Apple Store and have it replaced. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
